Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
Maybe play all of one guy's starts? That's close to your approach, but you can follow a guy - maybe take a young pitcher or a vet and try to have a good season with him?
Or perhaps player lock with an exciting hitter? Sure you'll "play" them all but it will be like RTTS and the games would fly by. Just hit and no fielding/baserunning chances. Game could be over in 5 minutes.
Another idea might be to play every 2nd Sunday or something like that. You'd really fly through a season. Just keep on top of your scouting and training, and make moves if you want to see a prospect at the majors or such.
That's another idea - play one your minor league affliates if there is a hot prospect or such, or if they are having a good season. Handle off the field stuff (scouting/training) for the big club but put your attention on the farm team."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
The Cardinals return to their winning ways with a 3-2 victory over the Diamondbacks. Adam Wainwright looked like his old self again as he pitched 8 innings, giving up 1 run in the process with 0 walks and 5 strikeouts. Wainwright started the 9th but gave up back to back hits before being pulled for Rosenthal. Rosenthal wasn't his typical self as he allowed of one to score that was credited to Wainwright and allowed one of his one. Before settling down and getting the final out of the game.
Jedd Gyorko had a day at the plate going 3 for 4 with 2 doubles. Holliday hit a 2 run homer in the 3rd and Grichuk launched his second homerun in as many days in the 6th to give the Cardinals their 3 runs.
Next up is the series finally that will pit Michael Wacha vs Robbie Ray.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
I'll quickly share how I play and intro my Franchise a little bit because I would like to join this conversation.
I will play a series (Always the opening series) and look at the schedule. I will find series I like, and usually play 2 or 3 series a month, so anywhere in the ballpark of 6-10 games a month.
So this year I'm the Angels, and I really like the team. Although I prefer Bryce Harper, I love Mike Trout as a ballplayer. Giavotella is one of my preferred players to hit with, and I just in general like the way the team is built. However, I need to revamp the pitching system and there aren't really any great prospects in the farm system, so I need to fix that too. Fortunately there are some tradeable players on the roster (Calhon, Skaggs, Simmons).
Will update progress in a later post.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
Cardinals extend winning streak to two as they beat the Diamondbacks.
Wacha pitched 6 2/3 shut out baseball as the Cardinals win their 2nd in a row beating the Diamondbacks 3-0 in Arizona. Siegrist pitched to PH David Peralta in the bottom of the 7th with 1 on and 2 out and struck him out. Walden worked a perfect 8th and Rosenthal worked a perfect 9th to record his league leading 10th save of the season.
Matt Holliday did damage again going 2-3 at the plate and hit his second homerun in as many days. Fryer and Piscotty each added an RBI as the Cardinals are starting to find production for other outlets.
The Cardinals will head home for a 3 game series with the Nationals for the weekend.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
While I wait for OSFM V2, I've had second thoughts about using my Yankees in franchise. I figure I see them every day so no point in doing the same in Franchise.
I'm considering the Cubs so I can be Kris Bryant all the time and probably have an easy division win. Or maybe a team like the D-Backs who just got Greinke and have a decent team. I don't know!

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
Marlins and Red Sox start a battle between two top-level records in all of baseball. This series could be a potential World Series preview.
If so, it seems like it might be an exciting World Series if game 1 of the series is any indication.
The Marlins found themselves up against Shelby Miller, a pitcher that rivals their own Damian Boeve.
Perhaps that's what helped the Marlins deal with him (kind of). Miller couldn't rack up any strikeouts and the Marlins gradually picked up a 3-1 lead. Bartlett, the knuckleballer for the Marlins, was looking good early.
However, his knuckler started ending up in bad places in the 6th and the Red Sox were able to jump on him for 4 runs to take a 5-3 lead.
The Marlins closed to 5-4 on a RBI by Harper, but the Red Sox got a bomb from Colby Rasmus to make it 6-4.
BoSox bring in their closer, Stilson. He didn't have it though. Marlins worked a walk and a single. Russell Parrot, who does most of his damage against lefties, was up. He's playing only because it's at Boston so Davis is DH'ing.
Well that turned to a blessing as Parrott jacked a flat change-up to straight away center field for a 3-run HR to gave the Marlins a 7-6 lead. Leone held the Sox in check, perhaps still stunned as twice they were caught looking, for his 27th save.
The Marlins stretched their lead back to 6 1/2 games with the win as the Mets have cooled down a bit."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

First two losses of the year
Started 5-0, lost 8-3 against the Jays with David Price getting lit up and then 7-1 in our home opener against the O's. The Jays one just was a loss, the O's was a heartbreak. Porcello had it...but lost it.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
Game 2 against the Red Sox
Boeve took the hill against Renaudo, who became nearly an ace-level pitcher himself.
Once again, the Marlins opened out to a big lead. This time, though, Boeve put the clamps on the Boston offense. He gave a run in the 2nd inning and then a Pesky's Pole home run in the 6th. That was it through 8 innings of work.
Both pitchers were working over 100 MPH on their fastballs.
Marlins won 6-2 and will look to complete the sweep."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
Ok so I'll give you guys my progress so far.
The LA Angels started the year with a really tough home game against the former Cy Young winner Jake Arrieta. To say it was tough to hit was an understatement. The Angels couldn't get a hit until the 3rd inning when Giavotella reached on an infield single to Addison Russell. However, Jake was giving up a lot of walks, 6 in 7 innings to be exact.
The Angels fell behind early after a Dexter Fowler double in the third followed by a Kris Bryant single. Mike Trout managed to throw Bryant out at the plate tagging later in the inning after a Miguel Montero fly out, then throw out Anthony Rizzo a couple innings later on a Jorge Soler single to prevent any more runs from scoring, until the 6th.
Top 6th, Fowler leads off with a single, Bryant doubles to put them on second and third, and Rizzo walks. Miguel Montero hits a Sac Fly to deep right to make it 2-0 Cubs. Then Soler walks to load them up again for Schwarber, who walk on a 9 pitch AB to make it 3-0 Cubs. An Addison Russell double play would end the inning.
Bottom 6th, Trout walked to lead off the inning, then stole second after a Pujols K. With two outs, Andrelton Simmons ripped an opposite field double down the line to make it 3-1.
Bottom 9th, Carlos Perez leads off the inning with a Homer to left, but Simmons and Giavotella both ground out and Escobar flies out to move the Angels to 0-1.
Game 2:
John Lester spent 3.2 inning on the mound as the Angels hung on late en route to an easy 8-6 victory. Giavotella and Escobar hit back to back bombs to left to put the first 2 runs on the board, and the hit parade continued as Lester was tagged with 6 earned runs in the fourth before being taken out. Shoemaker was ok, giving up 5 over 7 innings pitched, but striking out 7 was a key factor in his performance.
Going to simulate nearly the entire month and play the final series of the month, against the Rangers. However, I plan to play 3 or 4 series in the month of May, so it should balance out.

Detroit Tigers
Started: 0-7
Since: 5-3
Current: 5-10
Just managed to salvage a 10-6 win @KC to wrap up a 3-game set, a series that featured two straight shoutout losses (have been shutout 4 times already this season). Was really nice to bust off a 10-spot like that coming off 18 straight innings without a run.
Now it's back to Detroit as the 13-2(!) Cleveland Indians come to town.Comment

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
The Cardinals take two of three from the Nationals in epic fashion. Cardinals win game 2 on a walkoff homerun from Kolten Wong in the 11th and follow it up with a walkoff homerun from Tommy Pham in the 11th in game 3. What a series!I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
No sweep for the Marlins as they played a terrible game from start to finish.
In the first inning, the Marlins had the chance to jump on starter Jon Gray with a bases loaded and no outs situation. The result? Pop up, Shallow Fly, Strikeout.
From there, the bats pretty much died. Bo Winter was the only thing that prevented a shutout as he hit a 2-run HR to right field.
The defense was bad as well as the Marlins made three errors in the game. This helped contribute to a 5-run 3rd inning that ruined Tillman's night.
After the dust settled, the Marlins lost 8-2. They will return home to find the 72-39 Giants waiting to play four games."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
Well the start to this game was odd.
The Marlins picked up 6 runs in the 2nd inning...on two hits. Not sure what the issue was with Giants starter Chris Reed, but I don't think I've seen this squad have an inning like that...
Things reverted to normal after that with the Marlins scoring just once on 5 hits.
But they didn't need anything else as Huff was masterful, going the distance with a shutout on 6 hits allowed. He struck out just 2 batters and used only 96 pitches."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment
