Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

In the series finale, the White Sox took down the Red Sox 7-3 to split the 4 game series. Eduardo Rodriguez threw 5.2 innings, allowing 6 runs but only 3 being earned. It was far from his best outing of the year but he pitched well enough to keep us around, unfortunately the defense allowed the 3 unearned to score.

Bats were relatively quiet, except for Travis Shaw, who had 2 2Bs and his 19th HR of the year, a solo shot.

The Red Sox head to Texas for a weekend series against the struggling Rangers. The first matchup features Rick Porcello vs Yu Darvish.

    ------------------------------------------

In the first game of the series the Sox bats came ready to play, plating 8 runs en route to an 8-3 victory. No home runs were hit, but we did record 5 doubles in the game. Rusney Castillo had his best game of the year, going 3-5 with 2 2Bs and 3 RBIs.

Rick Porcello threw 6.2 innings, allowing the 3 runs on 8 hits while striking out 6 for his 7th win of the year. Carson Smith and Junichi Tazawa combined to finish the game and hold off a potential comeback.

Game 2 gives way to Joe Kelly and Cole Hamels.

I just don't care for the contract portion of the mode.

I do it for complete flexibility of roster control + drafting for the CPU if I need/want to. Plus FA contract offers and re-signing their players. I don't want them to lose some really good high POT draft picks or players.

I see people on here scoop those guys up and to me that's just not fair. It's like the Red Sox just dropping Rafael Devers and somebody scooping him up. Ain't gonna happen.

Yea I don't like the contract part I plan to carry over this save for a while. I think I will roll with 30 team control just to fix stupid things. Thanks

The GM contract thing is stupid. Especially when it get enabled regardless of previous setting. Why can't it just match the existing setting or default to Off?

As far as roster control - eh...I don't get worked up over it. Plus, eventually I'm going to be so far into the future that things like dropping irl current high prospects becomes a non-factor.

I mean, in eight seasons, guys like Devers might not even be anything, or they'll have changed teams anyway after their 6 years of team control are over. Or they'll have drafted a stud and Devers takes second fiddle. Or like how in my carryover, Joc Pederson became Trout after Trout suffered injuries and slid back and I believe Buxton became Babe Ruth, or at least close to Willie Mays (by ratings...I need to check if he's still up there).

That's one reason I like single-team (the other is I don't have time to run 30 teams), everything that does happen is organic. It might not be "realistic", but it happened on its own with no interference from me. That's what I want in sports game, pure organic play. No interference from me or from the engine (AI teams get advantages in signings, etc).

            2018 Open Day Roster

            GM J.K. Stewart Report
I think we've taken a step in the right direction with our drafting and free agency moves. We're hoping that Drew Pomeranz can bounce back after a tough '17 campaign. Danny Duffy has a good pedigree and plugging him in at #4 improves our rotation. We made a run at free agent Mike Moustakas from KC but he opted to sign with the Dodgers. Our backup plan was veteran Eduardo Escobar from Minnesota. He's a utility guy switch hitter who is just a solid all around player. Manny Margot finally gets the chance to shine in CF. The position is his to lose.

The farm system is really looking primed for future growth. We've acquired some very talented offensive guys in the draft and we have several power hitters in the ranks. I don't see many .300 hitters but I see a handful of 25+ HR guys. We see our pitching prospects as quality guys who could be mid-back end starters. We don't have any blue chip type ace prospects. Pitching is a spot we'll probably focus on in our 2018 MLB Draft.

Got your starting RF, LF, C, at least 3/5 of a rotation, 2B, SS, a couple relief arms, possible closer (maybe just C but depends on his ratings).

You're going to be deadly in a couple seasons!

If our bats start coming around and we hit for a better average we're going to be a team worth watching. The Dodgers/Giants are the clear 1-2 teams in the division but we're focusing on general improvement. For the Giants to race out to a 8.5 game lead in one month is ridiculous. It's great to see Margot off to such a great start, now need the rest of our outfield to pick it up.

                  That Erlin, though.

Sell high on him while he looks awesome and maybe grab a 1B/3B prospect?

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

The Marlins have a commanding lead in the NL East, but with June having arrived, that won't stop talk of trades revolving around some of the Marlins players.

Consensus Miami media picks for most likely to be traded Marlins:

                    1. 3B Stan Brito - No player incites heated debates than Stan Brito, perhaps the most physically strong player in the game at 6'5", 235 lbs, and a vicious swing. Some love him and think the Marlins need to stick it out. Some say let some other team be hypnotized by the promise of 50 HR power and great defense. It doesn't help that the hot start Brito had has completely evaporated. He's back into the .220 range with a .270 OBP...aided by IBBs as pitchers fear his raw power.

                    2. 1B Chet Doyle - Doyle is the poster child for a "blocked" minor leaguer. 25 and should be starting and could be starting, but stuck between the ageless Chris Davis and fellow 25-year-old Russell Parrott. Doyle is probably better than Parrott, but the latter has the favor of management it seems.

                    3. OF Josh Hart - Hart is loved by management for his work ethic. He rose from a slow start in order to become a useful player that's seen big league time. Problem is, how do you crack an OF that's manned by Yelich/Winter/Harper? Probably could put Hart on that same poster with Doyle. Doesn't help that Arturo Gonzalez is vying for the same 4th OF spot (and currently holds for the time being).

                    4. OF Arturo Gonzalez - He has the advantage of being on the roster, but Hart threatens him just like he threatens Hart's chances...and neither will start, barring injury.

                    5. SP Clay Huff - Miami media thinks he should be traded, but it won't happen. Mattingly loves his finesse style and the front office seems to be cultivating more pitchers like this in the system. Boeve might be the last bastion of old school power pitching. Fortunately, he's godlike and won't be going anywhere.

                    6. SP Tyler Kolek - Speaking of old school power pitching, the big Texan has been a slooooooooow developer. The bloom is off his rose, but the Marlins hang on to him. Some think they are grooming him to be their next closer. If so, he'd probably only be dealt for a closer, either present or future.

                    7. SP Will Bullock - Ironically, this is probably the most realistic player to move on this list. Folks can't stand Bullock and the team might not be high on him after two 5.00 ERA attempts at the major league roster. There's rumors he'd be dealt for even an if-and-maybe prospect at catcher.

                    8. RF Bryce Harper - Harper is currently batting .370/.411/.654. On one hand, it seems stupid to trade that on a 29-year-old star in his prime. On the other hand, he won't keep that up. That's over even his head. Still, this production 2 months in might be showing a career year and in a league starved for offense, Harper's value increases. The contract could be an issue for finding a trading partner, though.

                    9. SP Damian Boeve - Apparently, some folks were either trolling or stupid. Dealing Boeve would alienate that 500 regular fans that the team has left. Not to mention 4 consecutive years with a sub-2.00 ERA. Yeah, no.

                    10. C Tommy Cruz - The case for dealing Cruz? Catcher talent is at an absolute premium in the league. The case against dealing Cruz? Catcher talent is at an absolute premium. While Cruz's great contact bat and strong arm would be very valuable in trade, the team has no one even close to him to replace him. They also likely think they are very lucky to have Cruz, so they'd likely consider him untouchable.

                        <table><td bgcolor=#004684>End of Regular Season - 2019</td></table>

We finish the 2019 season with the best record at 102-60 after going 21-13 over the last 6 weeks. Ended up beating out the Twins by 7 games for the division. We had a 10 game lead going into the last week of the season so we were able to get a lot of rest for our starters. We did end up losing 5 of our last 6 games. so not exactly hot going into the post season.

The big story is the AL West and 2nd AL Wild Card. Try and keep up here. At the break the Mariners lead the West by 3 games over the A's. Astros were 4 games back and the Angels were in last 8.5 games back. Going into September the Angles had moved up to 2nd. 3 games behind the Mariners and the Astros were 4.5 games back. With 1 week left the Mariners held a 1 games lead over the Angles and 1.5 game lead over the Astros. With 3 games left all 3 were tied at 80-79. The Rays were in the 2nd WC at 83-76. Indians were 82-77. The Mariners lost 2 of 3 to finish at 81-81. Angles and Astros both swept their last series to finish at 83-79. The Rays got swept by Boston to finish at 83-79 and the Indians lost 2 of 3 to the Tigers to finish at 83-79.

The Angles and Astros will play a game 163 to decide the AL West champion. The loser goes on to play their 164th game against the Indians. The winner of that will go on to play Tampa Bay to decide who plays Minnesota in the WC game. So Tampa will play 163 games. Indians will play at least 163 possibly 164. And the Astros or Angels will play at least 164 games possibly 165.

                        Standings
                        Spoiler

The offense finished the season with 771 runs scored. The most the team has scored since 2006. And the 8th most in franchise history. A big part of that was thanks to our new manager. Ned Yost always focused more on small ball and we wanted to change that up. Danny Montag did just that. We hit 200 HR. Most in franchise history. 6 different players hit 20+. Lorenzo Cain, Jackson Yates, Salvador Perez, and Alex Gordon all set career highs. And we tied the 1977 team for most win in franchise history. We were 1st in AVG at .271, 4th in OBP at .341 and 2nd in SLG at .440.

Alex Gordon was our player of the year after the best season of his career. He hit .314/.393/.558 with 33 HR and 96 RBI (all career highs). He also set a career high in WAR at 7.16 (2nd in AL, 5th in MLB). He won his 6th Gold Glove and 1st Silver Slugger. He now has the 2nd best WAR in Royals history at 47.81. No chance he reaches George at 88. He will be a free agent after the season. Looking at another 3 year deal for 10+ million. Cain bounced back after pretty bad August. He finishes the year at .271/.335/.452 with 20 HR, 73 RBI and 31 SB. Salvador Perez also had the best year of his career. He hit .283/.344/.485 with 32 HR and 95 RBI. His OBP and SLG were both career highs. And he won his 2nd straight Silver Slugger. Kendrys Morales may have finished his career with one of his best seasons ever. .305/.383/.482 with 25 HR and 91 RBI. He will be a free agent after the season and could end up retiring. Despite missing some time in July Jackson Yates improved on his 2018 numbers. He hit .301/.367/.903 with 27 HR and 97 RBI. He very well could be an MVP candidate next season. Moose had his ups and downs this year. Finishes at .252/.320/.423 with 24 HR and 82 RBI. After hitting 31 HR last year and then everyone hitting HR this year would have expected him to lead the way there. Raul Mondesi had the best season of his young career. Only played in 100 games thanks to injury buthit .262/.315/.409 with 7 HR and 51 RBI. And had just 3 errors in 857 innings between SS and 2B.

                        Stats

With how good the offense was this year the pitching would have had to be terrible to screw things up. We were 9th in ERA at 3.74 (4th in AL). Mike Minor was our best starter this year and won his first Cy Young (should have been David Price). He went 21-7 with a 2.76 ERA in 228.1 IP. And threw a no hitter back in June against the Yankees. He has a player option and could be a free agent after the season. Aside from him it wasnt all that good. Kris Medlen was good before getting hurt. But struggled when he came back. He finishes 6-4 with a 3.73 ERA in 103.2 IP. Danny Duffy was probably the 2nd best starter. 12-10 with a 3.75 ERA in 184.2 IP. Yordano Ventura had his worst season ever. 13-9 with a 4.23 ERA in 191.2 IP. He probably wont be in the rotation during the playoffs. And Jordan Lyles went 15-10 with a 4.16 ERA in 194.2 IP.

Bullpen finished the season on a strong note. Wade Davis lead the way with a 2.54 ERA and had 47 saves. Kelvin Herrera had an ERA of 3.01. and Luke Hochevar was at 3.09. Both will be free agents. Soria had a 3.12 ERA and struck out 81 batters. The most of his career. JP Howell was at 3.88 with a 1.36 WHIP. Dillon Gee was the worst with a 4.24 ERA and 1.44 WHIP. His last 4 years have been Good followed by bad. So he should have an ERA in the low 3's next season and be one of our best starters.

We went with a 6 man rotation over the last few weeks getting some young guys starts. Nolan Watson went 6 innings and gave up 4 runs in his start. Ashe Russell threw a CG with 1 ER and 8 K's. Kyle Zimmer went 8.1 IP with no runs and struck out 9. Christian Binford went 6 innings with 3 runs allowed and Miguel Almonte Went 4 innings with 5 runs allowed.

Just a brief update, the CPU seems to struggle to attack pitches at times but as of late theyve seen their average for the month of July increase as well as their BABIP. My record is a little disgusting but I have a lot of guys with solid contact ratings and a few with exceptional power ratings so I suppose offensively its not that far fetched. The real strong part of my team, other then Kershaw, the entire bullpen seems to be lights out more often then not as they all have a sub 2 ERA and once I get to the 7th its almost a guaranteed win with Baez, Garcia and Jansen to close it out.

I finally got Carl Crawford back off the DL last game only to then see Puig go on it for 1-2 months, I cant seem to maintain a healthy lineup to save my life. Justin Turner is out a couple months, Puig now as well and Alex Wood of course for the season. I did pull off a trade recently and sent a prospect over to SD for Derrek Norris and James Loney, Norris so I can have a catcher that can hit LHP and give Grandal those days off for good, not to mention dump AJ Ellis in AAA to rot. I grabbed Loney just so he could retire as a Dodger and give a solid backup against RHP when I need to give A-Gone a day off. Ive completely run away with the division as of now, 18.0 game lead, but I suppose anything can happen.

Bluejays take game one of the ALDS.

Bucholz pitched a hell of a game. Going 7 strong, allowing 0 runs to the powerhouse Jays. I decided to bring in Tommy Layne and left him in one batter too long and lost 1-0.

Stroman for the Bluejays was so dominant. He was hitting the black all night and getting the calls, so I had to start swinging at pitches I did not want to.

Cannot wait until game 3 and 4 to head to Boston, with the end of my pitching staff being mediocre, my bats gotta get hot or it's going to be a short series.

Good to see another Ranger Fan out there. I am in my third year playing on MOM and it has been a bit of a frustration so far. In year 1 I finished strong yet was 3 games out of the Wild Card. Last year I was kicking some serious ### that is until September. I had a 4 1/2 game lead in the division and proceeded to go on a 7 games losing streak and thus lost out in the wild card to Houston by 1 game. Adrian Beltre retired at the end of the season after reaching the 3000 hit club and unfortunetly Yu left for the Yankees.

The Dodgers won both World Series Titles beating the Royals in year 1 and the Angels in Year 2. I signed Carlos Gonzalez in year 3 to play Left Field and in year 3 I am struggling to get any hitting as I sit 26-30 6 games out of first.

                                The team looks like this

C- Carlos Santana (signed as FA in Year 2)
1b- Adam Lind ( Unbelievable Year Last year hitting 290 with 28 HR) signed as FA in year 2
2b- Delino Deshields- Let Odor Walk as he hit only 230 in year 2
                                SS- Old Reliable Andrus
3b- Mr dissapointment Gallo (Jesus what a disaster under 200 with 3 HRs in 56 games. Strikes out like every other time)
LF- Cargo (Hurt in week 2 out for 2 Months, hopefully comes back and earns his 100 mil dollar 5 year Contract)
CF- Cameron Maybin- Under 200 hitter FA signed year 2
                                RF- Choo

                                SP 1. Cole
                                2. Perez
                                3. Tepesch ( Yess that one the same one who sucked for the real rangers)
                                4. A second year rookie who is awesome ( Leads team in wins and era)
                                5. Some guy named Felipe Paulino

Pen is ok anchored by Wade Davis and Kela. Just hoping to start hitting the ball
