Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
Eventually decided to bite the bullet and just start a Mets franchise, as if I'm playing every game it might as well be with my team. I traded far too much with the Rays and ended up with far too good a team, so I've learnt from my mistake and I'm keeping trades to a minimum, trying to keep as similar a team as the real life Mets.
So far the only trades I've made have been to offload players the Mets signed during the season to cover injuries that I don't have, so are a waste of space and getting rid of De Aza in favour of a an outfielder who can come in against LHP due to Conforto and Granderson's inability to hit them. Same goes for Loney, who was redundant with Duda already being a 1B who can only hit righties. So I signed Reed Johnson on a free and traded for Byung-ho Park to platoon with Duda. Neither seemed unreasonable signings. I think I had to give up one of our many, many mid 70's relievers to get Park, but not a huge loss for us or the Twins.
So far I'm enjoying it much more than my previous franchises, but I'm going to have to adjust my sliders as I'm hitting far too well so far, not sure why as my team is no better than my previous franchises which seemed about right with these sliders. Curtis Granderson had a 3 home run game, so clearly something's not right! David Wright is seriously struggling (under .200), but other than that we're all hitting a bit too well for my liking.
The rotation is ridiculous, the first three games of any series is almost a gimme with Harvey and DeGrom both having ERA's under 1 from their first 4 games and Thor under 3. Matz is not having the same joy, getting smashed by everyone to the tune of an ERA over 8, even after playing the Braves and their incredibly RHP only hitting lineup (still hit him for 6 runs in 4 innings). Bartolo is hanging in there, just trying to get through 6 innings a game for under 4 runs.
Overall though, about a month in and really enjoying it, just need to find the right balance for my sliders. My team has some real holes in it, but if anything that seems to make it more enjoyableComment

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
It's the All-Star Break and our hot streak continues! The Houston Astros sit at 60-29 and have a commanding 11.5 game advantage on the Texas Rangers who are 49-41. I will just be going over the All-Star game results, Award Voting, League Leaders etc here.
All-Star Game Starters:
SP - Dallas Keuchel / Madison Bumgarner
C- Stephen Vogt / Jonathan Lucroy
1B - Edwin Encarnacion / Paul Goldschmidt
2B - Jose Altuve / Matt Carpenter
3B - Manny Machado / Nolan Arenado
SS - Carlos Correa / Corey Seager
LF - Michael Brantley / Charlie Blackmon
CF - Mike Trout / Andrew McCutchen
RF - George Springer / Stephen Piscotty
DH - Mookie Betts / Yoenis Cespedes (I think)
The Astros also had Ken Giles in the All-Star game.
The AL Won the game 4-0, Dallas Keuchel was named game MVP though he only threw 11 pitches. If I had to pick the MVP I would say George Springer. He went 1-2 with a homerun and 2 RBI's and was hit by a pitch.
Award Leaders:
MVP - Carlos Correa / Paul Goldschmidt
Cy Young - Danny Duffy / Clayton Kershaw
Batting Title - Jose Altuve / Stephen Piscotty
Reliever of the Year - Francisco Rodriguez / Santiago Casilla
Rookie of the Year - Tyler Naquin / Trevor Story
Hank Aaron Award - Jose Altuve / Matt Carpenter
League Leaders:
Batting WAR - Jose Altuve (7.65) / Andrew McCutchen (5.32)
Pitching WAR - Chris Sale (3.71) / Clayton Kershaw (5.89)
Batting Avg - Jose Altuve (.374) / Stephen Piscotty (.331)
Home Runs - David Ortiz (24) / Jay Bruce (25)
RBI's - Carlos Correa (74) / Paul Goldschmidt (73)
Stolen Bases - Craig Gentry (28) / Charlie Blackmon (29)
Slugging - Jose Altuve (.634) / Matt Carpenter (.616)
ERA - Jose Quintana (2.13) / Clayton Kershaw (1.74)
Saves - Cody Allen (30) / Santiago Casilla (28)
Standings
NL East - Nationals (1.0)
NL Central - Cubs (6.5)
NL West - Giants (3.5)
NL Wild Card - Dodgers (4.0) / Mets (2.0)
AL East - Blue Jays (4.5)
AL Central - Indians (5.0)
AL West - Astros (11.5)
AL Wild Card - Rangers (2.5) / Orioles (1.5)"Don't ever underestimate the heart of a champion!"

Ranger Update (Season 3)
Well finally late in my third season after falling 3 games short in season 1 and 1 game short in season 2 I am 2 games up in the Wild Card with 6 to play. Is this the season the Rangers finally make the playoffs? CarlosGonzalz has been an absolute beast. He missed 2 and a half months of the season with a torn finger ligament yet has 28 hr's and is hitting 320. He is a 100 miliion dollar investment well spent in the offseason. Deshields continues to amaze as he is hitting 290 and setting the table for Cargo and Prince. Pitching wise Wade Davis now has 44 saves and an ERA just above 1 while Rookie pitching sensation Ethan Karros continues to suprise the league at 21 years of age. Unless there is a melt down in the next 6 games I envision playing the Red Sox in the Wild Card Game.Comment

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
The Blue Jays were rolling into July and hit a bump in the road. They were up 5 games of the Yankees for first in the division, but after the last 10, are now tied. This sprung on a load of trades a week prior to the deadline.
Toronto is 1-9 in the last 10. After winning game 1 to Cleveland they lost the last 3. Next, swept by KC and Detroit. Finally they have righted the ship against Oakland winning the series 2-1.
The deadline trades:
- Recreated the Liriano, Upton, Feldman, Benoit and Bolsinger trades that were done by the real Jays as the teams involved were in similar spots to real life. Liriano will join the rotation, Feldman the bullpen, Upton to provide OF depth and Bolsinger to AAA.
- Toronto trades 1B Chris Colabello to Colorado for LF/2B Ryan Rayburn and SP Tyler Chatwood. The Rockies were needing 1B bad and they actually offered this deal to me. It so happens that Travis went down with a season ending injury so I needed the 2B depth. Rayburn provides similar stats vs lefties but can play 2B vs 1B which each team needed. Colabello has better stats on the year and is cheaper for Colorado. He wasn't needed with Smoak and EE playing 1B and the trade for Upton. Both expect to be starting for their new teams going forward. Chatwood has been terrible in the Majors with a 7.89 ERA in 8 starts. He was demoted and seems to be out of the plans. He will provide Toronto with starting depth.
- Toronto trades RF Darrel Ceciliani to KC for 3B/OF Hunter Dozier. Kansas has given up on the once highly touted prospect after going .189/.263/.419 in over 200 at bats in AAA. Ceciliani was batting .339 with 12 homers in AAA but was designated for assignment to clear room on the 40 man for new players acquired. He was destroying AAA but is blocked at the majors thus far. Kansas has a glaring hole in RF with Gordon done for the year and Dyson/Orlando are struggling real bad. The Jays get a prospect to watch and try to steer in the right direction.
- Toronto trades DJ Davis and Josh Thole for Kurt Suzuki from Minnesota. This trade gives Toronto a rental backup C. The twins are 10 games back and are mainly starting JRM at C. Suzuki gives the team an upgrade at the revolving door that has been backup C this year and adds veteran leadership to the club. Davis adds to the prospect pool, while Thole can provide catching depth.
After all of the trades and getting Tulo back the lineup looks features Bautista, Donaldson, EE, Tulo, Saunders, Smoak, Martin, Rayburn, Pillar. Upton, Suzuki, Goins and Barney will occupy the bench for now.
The rotation will consist of Sanchez, Estrada, Happ, Liriano and Dickey. Stroman is back next week which could mean changes are coming. Could the Jays release dickey? Time well tell. The bullpen consist of Osuna, Benoit, Cecil, Frieri, Grilli, Floyd and Feldman.
It should be an interesting finish to the season!

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
Well....our season has come to an end at the hands of the Dodgers in the NLCS. After beating the Mets 3-2 in the NLDS, we were swept by the Dodgers in the NLCS. We just played poorly for 4 games and it showed.
The Dodgers went on to defeat the Rays in the World Series in 5 games.
Next up is time to make the necessary changes and roster moves to get to where the Dodgers were this year. Sucks that the season is over. You grind for 162 games, not including Spring Training games, to get to the playoffs only to have your hopes of a World Series Title dashed away.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Looking back now, I'm second guessing myself.
Oh...patch some holes in the offseason and get after it in spring ball again.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
Yeah...I didn't make a move at the trade deadline because we were playing so well and there weren't any holes that I felt needed to be filled and didn't want to give up prospects with an aging ball club.
Looking back now, I'm second guessing myself.

Its a tough choice. I decided to ride with what was working and it fell apart in the 2nd half of the season/playoffs.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
Agree with most of what Bard said but I will offer my own input as well.
Cespedes -- Stays in New York as a Met
Encarnacion -- Blue Jays will let Bautista walk, so will definitely keep Edwin.
Gomez -- Nationals, would be a massive upgrade on the failed Revere experiment, Taylor hasn't taken the job either.
Gonzalez -- If the Rockies are decent in your world, he should stay, if not, traded to a contender that needs him.
Puig -- I don't think the Dodgers will trade him with his value so low, if he plays well to where his value goes up, I'd see them bringing him back to their own team rather than trading.
Longoria -- Team Legend, poor contract, play out career in St. Petersburg.
Archer -- If Rays aren't in contention in July, traded for 3 prospects to a contender that has an Ace injured.Comment

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
Well the Trade Deadline has officially passed in my Yankees franchise. At August 1st now. Did all trades for all teams that happened in real life that made sense in my franchise. I'll just list the ones involving us though:
Yankees acquired RP Drew Hayes from the Reds for CF Jacoby Ellsbury, 1B Mike Ford, SP Ian Clarkin. The Reds are very much in the wildcard hunt in my franchise and would actually be very in the hunt for winning the division in most divisions. They just get the luck of being one of those teams stuck in the NL Central with the dominant Cubs this year. Ellsbury helps them a lot and Clarkin adds extra upside to the deal prospect wise and Ford is sorta a throw in type of guy. Obviously not a real life trade.
Yankees acquired SS Gleyber Torres, RF Billy McKinney, and RP Adam Warren from the Cubs for CP Aroldis Chapman. Also swapped Hayes for RF Shawon Dunston Jr. Dunston is meant to be another player in the Chapman deal but you can only get/give 3 players in one trade in the Show.
Yankees acquired CF Clint Frazier, SP Justus Sheffield, and RP Ben Heller from the Indians for CP Andrew Miller.
Yankees acquired RP Tyler Clippard from the Diamondbacks for SP Vincente Campos.
Yankees acquired SP Kyle Crick and RP Matt Gage for RF Carlos Beltran. The real life Beltran trade made no sense for Texas so I made my own with San Fran. Pagan is having a very poor year so Beltran upgrades them their. They are also missing Buster Posey for the rest of the season so Beltran helps cover for the loss of Posey's offensive impact. The Giants are in 1st in the NL West. Dodgers are in second and only 4 games back. Kyle Crick is a nice SP prospect to add to our system but Gage isn't really anything special.
And that's it for our deadline moves. Clippard and Warren will take Miller and Chapmans roster spots and be Setup men while Betances shifts to the closer role. Called up LF Ben Gamel to take Beltrans roster spot. Raburn takes Beltrans everyday spot in the lineup with Gamel being a backup for now.
We are in 3rd place right now behind Toronto and Boston. We are 2.5GB's of the Jays and 1.5 behind the Red Sox. The Orioles are 11.5GB of first and the Rays are 21.0 games out of first and are also the worst team in the league. Our record is currently 58-45 and we have a wild card spot right now. I made those trades because I feel like we can still contend for a wild card spot this year. It does weaken us this year but I felt like we could quickly rebound and be just as good as were before those trades this year next year at the least while also getting all that young talent. In other news Judge and Gary Sanchez are hitting well at AAA so I may recall one of them in the near future.
The first 2 weeks of August we have series against the Mets, Indians, Red Sox, and Rays.Comment
