Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

133 games into my season having played every single inning to date. The offense is hitting a slump and pitching has been erratic as Ive gone 4-5 over my last 9 games but thanks to the huge lead in the division it doesnt matter much at this point. Hopefully the bats come alive by the time the playoffs roll around though. Scott Van Slyke was lost for 1-2 months while throwing the ball back to the infield on a single but Puig is due back any day. It seems like when someone is set to return or has just returned I immediately lose a player right after that to injury, drives me nuts as I havent had a healthy lineup in months now unfortunately.

Here's a little update on my franchise (5/18/16)

Despite getting off to a horrid start (1-7), my bullpen has really been carrying the load. Now that I'm starting to get healthy, things are looking up. I'm currently on a 8 game win streak and in the month of May, I'm 11-5. Down on the farm, Joey Gallo is hitting .240 with 9 HRs in 32 games.

Would any of you be interested in me providing some write-ups about my Washington Nationals franchise? I try to play as close to real-life as possible.

The Phillies keep on rolling! 11 straight wins! One night after Jimmy Paredes hit a walk-off home run to come from behind and sweep the Royals, the Phillies walk-off once again on a base hit by Andres Blanco in the 9th to take the first game of the series with the Braves 7-6 after being down 6-4. This season has been so much fun!

            Ranger Update (Season 3)

Well the optimism has led to disbelief as what I didn't think would happen did. With 6 games to play I lost 3 of 4 and now sit in a tie with Detroit for the final Wild Card. With 2 games to play its Dillon Tate on the mound tonight against Seattle. Good news is Seattle is 28 games under 500, however the bad news is King Felix pitches. Here is to hoping Tate can pull it off

Some big time signings in my franchise

Aroldis Chapman signed with the Blue Jays

Stephen Strasburg signed with the Rangers

And just like that, not even 3 days into the free agency period, the two biggest names on the board are gone. I went hard after Chapman, even offered him more money than the Jays, but I didn't offer him the same number of years, I was significantly less.

Oh well...back to building my team.

                Chicago Cubs Franchise

                July Update

The Cubs went 13-12 in the month of July. There were certainly some high points, like touching up the Mets to the tune of 12 runs against Jacob deGrom and company. However, there were some low points, including a 4 game losing streak which included games against the Brewers and White Sox, both teams with losing records. Kyle Hendricks struggled mightily, his ERA skyrocketing from the low 4's to above 4.7. Thus, the Cubs welcomed the return of John Lackey and Jason Hammel to the rotation, both missing starts due to injury which sent them to the DL. Lackey missed two starts after the All Star Break while Hammel's missed start was pre All Star Break. Dallas Beeler started August 18th against the Mets, going 6 shutout innings in a very solid spot start. On August 24th, Brian Matusz got the start, also pitching well. Matusz went 6 innings, giving up 2 runs and striking out 6.

Ben Zobrist had his bat heat up in July, raising his average up to .250 once the month ended. The big blow for him was a 3 run walk off home run against the Rangers after the Cubs were down 6 to 4 in the 9th inning.

On July 24th, the Cubs acquired Aroldis Chapman from the Yankees for Gleyber Torres, Billy McKinney, and Adam Warren. Warren was a big arm in the bullpen while in a Cubs uniform. As you'll see in the stats below, much of Aroldis's stats were with the Yankees and he struggled a bit. With him entering Chicago in the closer's role, we'll have to see if those struggles continue. Hector Rondon will be moving into the setup role to accommodate for Chapman's arrival. Also, on trade deadline day, the Cubs acquired right handed reliever Joe Smith. This has created a bit of a logjam in the bullpen, but ultimately, it will be C.J. Edwards going back to AAA to continue development.

In injury news, the Cubs have lost Willson Contreras to a fractured wrist. He is scheduled out 1-2 months, so possibly back in time for the playoffs as a key bat if the Cubs should choose to go that route.

At the end of July, the Cubs hold a 2.5 game lead over the Pittsburgh Pirates and are 4 games up on St Louis. With multiple long home stands in August, this month will be important in the division race and it will be important for the Cubs to take advantage of all of the home games.

It's a kick in the gut, isn't it?

I hate when I have to beat teams back with a chair and a whip off a guy I want, think I'm fine...but he's "thinking about it" for like a week, then some other team from nowhere just swoops in and takes him.

Doing a 30 team control and my main team is the Dodgers and Mets. I decided to pick up the A's at the deadline cause I just fire saled everyone there and it's fun to start with a bunch of young guys. Mark Canha who was hitting .295, 19 HR, 72 RBIs in AAA gets called up and goes 4-4 with 1 HR, 2 2B, 1B and 4 RBIs. I love it when a plan comes together and hope he keeps it up

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

After adjusting my hitting sliders my Mets team have hit into a well overdue wall offensively and are now playing like the real life Mets. Home run or nothing. With both Jose Reyes and Juan Lagares on the 15 day DL, Cespedes is now the quickest member of the squad, so it's safe to say the running game has disappeared and sinker ball pitchers are murdering us. (William Perez of the Braves has thrown 16 shutout innings in the two games he's faced us)

After an incredibly grueling series with the Giants, with two blown saves for losses in low scoring games, followed by a frankly mental "pitchers duel" between Bumgarner and DeGrom that somehow ended 13-10, we managed to get back to winning ways by taking the next series against the Braves two games to one. This despite only scoring 4 runs in the 3 games combined, with two nail biting 1-0 victories behind Thor and Harvey and a 4-2 loss again for the seriously toiling Steven Matz, who moves to 0-4 with an ERA in the mid 7's.

The front three in the rotation continue to carry the team, with Matz and the bullpen looking increasingly like liabilities. With three of our 7 relievers with ERA's over 8, the emphasis has been on our starters to go deep and luckily they've been fantastic, but there is a real concern that they can't continue in this manner and we will need the bullpen to step up, especially Familia who frankly embarrassed himself in the San Fransisco series. With Greg Holland on the free agent market and in his final year before arbitration, Jeurys better shape up soon or find himself another ball club.

Hey guys i am in a dilemma and was looking for some feedback. I see that some of you have finished your first year in your franchises as i have. I came on here before and asked if i should sim the rest or play it out and the suggestion was to play it out. I admit i wanted to bit simmed august and sep being out 25 games, figured i would go through free agency and ramp up for 17. Basically would you start over with the new rosters that are out or keep playing in the current franchise. I know guys this sounds crazy after playing out most of the season. I made great moves including trading prospects for jose fernandez and others like a solid bullpen. What would you do? Sorry for the novel. Thanks!! Mpm

Well the aim of the game is to enjoy your franchise and have the most fun you can. If you would have more fun starting over then go for it. If not stick with what you are doing. I tend to lose interest when I start over though for a heads up.

Just a small update but Carlos Estevez the reliever I traded for tore something in his shoulder and will miss 2-3 months. So that is kind of a bummer lol. He spent a few weeks in AAA and had a sub 1 ERA I called him up and in his first three outings he was unstoppable. Going to definitely miss him as it opens a hole at reliever.

In other news considering trading for Yordana Ventura at the deadline. Should have the July update out in the next 2 days.

Scott, looks like I am getting off to a rough start like you did. I was looking at your player stats and noticed Darvish only had one start, I am guessing that is due to injury? I lost Darvish 1 1/3 innings into opening day for 2-3 months with a shoulder separation. I was wondering what injury he had with you?

Yep, I started with accurate injuries. So I've only gotten a couple starts out of him.
