Any realistic package that could be built around Matt wieters for Alex Bergman?

Castro is not hitting very well for Houston and Wieters is having a pretty decent year. Would it be possible to include a young SP of OF from Houston as well?

I can't see any reason the Astros would give up Bregman (or Bregman +) for Wieters who is only signed through the end of the year.

Yea that's what I was thinking would be the main issue. But I'm sure there's usually some overpays each year for players on expirings. Last year Zobrist got back Manea, Cueto got Finnegan+. Cespedes and Kazmir got decent returns too. Is Bergman too good? Is Daz Cameron+ more realistic?

I haven't started my official Oriole franchise yet as I am waiting for OSFM to come out but I am toying around with the idea of trading Zach Britton to add depth to the farm system or get a young major league ready starter or outfielder back if things go south in 2016. He has two years including 2016 of team control left and is making only 7 million this year which isn't too bad for a top 5 closer in the game. I know the Dodgers are one team I can look at after they failed to land Chapman. Any other teams I can look at for potential trade partners.

I agree there are overpays every deadline but none of those guys are quite on Bregman's level imo. On top of that, none of those guys were coming off of being the #2 draft pick.

From the other side of that, Wieters (unless he's playing absolutely out of his mind and healthy) isn't on Cueto's level.

Cameron is a much better starting point.

The absolute most I can see Astros doing is Derek Fisher or Colin Moran. More like Feliz, maybe Musgrove.

I mean I'm not going to call you crazy. But pitchers value higher than other positions. We're talking about a Top 3 pitcher in the MLB. Some would consider him the best. That requires a lot of value.

I would disagree with this because once again they play every 5 days. I don't care how godly you are when you pitch you cannot match the impact an elite two way short stop can make playing every day. And I would call it a stretch to call sale top 3 or laughably say he's the best. Dudes a strikeout machine but there's quite a few pictures ahead of him.

I just think pitching is invaluable. The same thing you talk about in regards to injury risk is just as prevalent and important in regards to position players. A torn meniscus and a guy never runs quite as fast. A dislocated shoulder and a guy never swings as hard as he did before. Injury is injury. Is their risk? Yes. But Sale is a Top 5 (at the least) pitcher right now. You're not getting him for cheap. That said, I did clear up my post because my eyes must have been glazing over when I was reading through the conversation earlier. Correa, Springer+ is too much. Correa+ or Springer+ however is what it would take in my opinion.

Okay to clarify Sale is not a top 5 pitcher in baseball. Not over Kershaw, Grienke, Mad Bum, arrieta, Keuche, Fernandez, Felix, price. Sale is a tier below guys like this imo. And the injury risk with a pitcher is so much more significant then with a position player I can't believe you don't believe that. A pitchers got one arm and if tahts starts to go he loses his craft a position player can recover from injuries way easier. I find it funny how you say pitching is invaluable but there are many aces around, how many short stops have the upside of cornea on both sides of the ball? Seager and Lindor, who I think most would agree are still below Correa.guys like Sale are way easier to find then a ss like Correa.guys it's not even close

Wow just landed Thor and Matz for KEUCHEL , Rodrigues and Fiers. Thor went from 89 in the mets to 92 in Houseton

Could take back Colby Lewis? I dunno. DeShields really isn't very good. Neither is Rua.

DeShields posted a 344 obp as a 22 year old rook and swiped 25 bases. Hit 260 which could increase. He seems to have reasonable upside as an outfielder and I find it puzzling why the rangers would give that up + more for a season of mediocre dickey who's largely on the decline. Seems extremely puzzling to me especially as a Jay's fan

A .260/.34t0/.370 line in Texas is pretty bad. Especially on a semi-inflated BABIP. I don't think he's necessarily as good as a guy like Inciarte or Pillar.

I suppose that's why so many teams are looking for rental pitchers at the trade deadline each year, because they're so easy to come by. Guys like Sale aren't a dime a dozen. Prior to last year, I think most here would consider him Top 10. No doubt the fact that he plays on the White Sox hurts his reputation.

I think you misinterpreted what I was stating in regards to injuries. I'm simply stating that decimating injuries can happen to positional players, just like they can to pitchers. Correa could, god forbid, break his leg and never quite have the same step again. You can't base your entire decision on the probability of an injury. That was my point.

He was simply stating that the AI Trade Logic is still somewhat loony. He was claiming he shouldn't have been able to make that trade in the first place.

A .340 OBP in Texas isn't incredible. They have the 2nd highest park factor in the league. I wouldn't expect it to get better considering his BABIP is at the very best reasonable and I wouldn't bet on a skill change. The walks are good. He's an okay player. Just not supremely valuable.
