Also, should I try and deal Ryu and Wood or keep them in my rotation. I can get Greg Bird and Gary Sanchez from NYY if i trade both Ryu and Wood.
    1) That's not fair value for Hosmer
    2) He's a lefty he can't play 2nd or 3rd
    3) Wood and Ryu can't get you Bird and Sanchez

      What about
      SP Vince Valasquez 23 83 B
      2B Scott Kingery 22 65 B
      C Jorge Alfaro 22 66 A

or are u simply telling me that they wouldn't do the deal and would probably just attempt to resign him in free agency?

I don't see why a team would trade prospects for Giolito here or why the Nats would realistically deal Giolito for prospects.

In terms of rentals as another poster said you should set your sights at pretty much anyone who is nearing the end of team control and is really good. McCutchen+, for example, or Hosmer+, might be candidates for this approach as they are reaching the end of their contracts or years of team control.

That said, I personally wouldn't necessarily give up Giolito for those specific players unless I really thought they would put me over the top. His long term surplus value is huge.

You could look around who is nearing the end of team controlled years and see whether anything looks plausible.

I plan on keeping him now I will start playing his minor league starts to get a better feel for him I will need him next year as I plan on letting GIO go to get me a young big bat in free agency

Im saying he's under team control through the 2019 season and that they won't trade him leading to the 2017 season. He is supremely underpaid.

They would ask for JP Crawford as a start and ask for more on top of that. They also wouldn't ask for players they just traded the Phillies

You can't move Werth or Zim because of their contracts. If you want to sell, look at trading players like Voth or Lopez. Robles potentially as well. Espinosa won't have tons of value---Rendon might (I wouldn't trade him as a Nats fan) have some value if you were RP shopping.

Since I first post we closed the gap tied for first place won 5 of the last 7 I'm trying be realistic so I'm keeping Barrett on DL till he comes back in real life I might try to move Espinosa and Voth to get some relief help till Barrett comes back or just stay put but I have a month before I do anything and Stephen Drew has been lights out hitting.330 off the bench

Realistically, Drew won't be worth much. He's raking IRL and is not going to be part of any trades for a decent player--I wouldn't think.

You were also looking for a backup C--I think you are undervaluing Lobaton from a defensive perspective.

I like Lobaton but Ramos contract is coming up and Lobaton is what he is a back up I wanted to get a catcher that could start next year Bryce contract is coming up and I gotta cut money somewhere so GIO and Wilson might be the two places I look

I hear you. I think you said Ramos wasn't performing well so maybe he doesn't command the contract he's going to get IRL.

I think that if Revere plays to last year's numbers (he isn't this year, I know) and Zim picks it up a little, and Werth matches this year's numbers......that's a lot of IFs....you won't need a huge bat at C.

In season one of my tigers franchise. I am doing well right now and should win the division this year. I've decided that no matter how the season plays out, I would like to trade some of my older contracts in the offseason. Now, I understand that trading players like Verlander will be impossible so I plan on keeping him. I'm wondering what value each of the following players would have this offseason:

                        -Victor Martinez (2016 all star)
                        -Ian Kinsler (2016 all star)
                        -Justin Upton(solid 2016, ~30 HRs, .290 AVG)
                        -Anibal Sanchez (~3.60 ERA)
-Francisco Rodriguez (top 8 closer numbers in 2016)

By what value they have, I mean what kind of prospects am I looking at getting for each of them.

Given their ages and salaries they are not worth huge surplus value. That said it's plausible to get quality prospects back, just not likely to be your counter parties top prospects.

Of the above I would think Upton would be worth the most and maybe could net a top prospect plus a couple of nice B / C guys.

                          Just my two cents

                            Latest trade thought:

Padres are actually 3 GB back in the West, and Brett Wallace is playing really well at 1B, with Wil Myers hurt (shocker I know). Myers is out for 1-2 months, and it's July. They need CP and CF help (Jon Jay is doing nothing).

                            Padres Get:
Ender Inciarte (.276 BA, 1.2 WAR, I forget his OBP)
                            Ian Krol, RP (2.35 ERA)
Andrew Thurman (C Propect, 62 rating, 24 years old)

                            Braves Get:
Wil Myers (.256 BA, 10 HR's, recently hurt as stated above)

Ender has one more year of team control then Wil does.

                            Thoughts?

Why would Atlanta trade him when they just got him in the offseason? Trade doesn't make sense for Atlanta, plus why would they want damaged goods.

San Diego would only give up Wil Myers if they were sellers. Even if he was hurt. They can still play him in left or move Wallace to third when he returns.

Also I don't think any team would want Wil Myers if the Padres were trying to get rid of him while they were competing for a playoff spot. That kinda makes it seem like he's worthless
