Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread

As always I'll be doing a Cubs franchise and this year I'll be recreating the Schwarber injury in the third game of the season. If all goes well and I'm in contention as the trade deadline approaches I'll be looking to add a pitcher and possibly replace Schwarber's bat. Here's the players I'd like to acquire. Give me some insight as to what it would take to get them (not looking for all three).

      1. Sonny Gray from Oakland
      2. Jay Bruce from Cincinnati
      3. Chris Archer from Tampa Bay

Players and/or prospects I'd be willing to part ways with:

      1. Gleyber Torres (Cubs #1 prospect, shortstop)
      2. Billy McKinney (center fielder that was acquired with Russell in the Samardzija trade)
      3. Jeimer Candelario (third base prospect that could see MLB time this year).
      4. Pierce Johnson (pitching prospect)
      5. Dan Vogelbach (big time hitting prospect that is destined to be a DH).

No chance the Cubs trade Russell. None. Unless some team made a completely ridiculous offer that they couldn't refuse of course.

Yeah but depending on the team the cubs don't have a while lot to give up for an sce besides a Schwarber, Russell, etc. Baez or Soler could lead a package but they could both end up in thst package tok depending how their making contact

What would it take to get Matt Harvey to the Red Sox? In July right now with the Mets almost 10 games back and a bit under .500. Moncada and Espinoza are the only untouchables for me. Need a starter with Kelly and Buchholtz out for 2 months each

Gray and Archer are going to be expensive, Gleyber would have to be in deals for both. If you were willing to part with Baez or Soler that would probably go a long way to getting a deal done.

Bruce was apparently almost gone in a 3-team in spring training where the Jays got Bruce, Angels got Saunders and the Reds got prospects I believe? So a decent replacement or major league ready OF prospect should be able to do the trick for him.

              Alot.

Devers + Kopech/Brian Johnson + in my opinion. Harvey still has control for the Mets so you're going to have to open the farm. Luckily the Sox are deep so you can probably manage a deal without Moncada or Espinoza but it's going to sting a lot.

I suggest going after Strasburg, Harvey will cost one of Moncada or Espinoza in the package. Mets are weird since they don't need pitching, and we have tons. Devers + Jackie Bradley + Chavis? + Yoan/Esp is probably something the Mets would want. Would say Swihart for Chavis, but they don't truly need a catcher.

So even though I haven't started my Red Sox franchise yet, I'm looking ahead to potential moves I'll have to make, and an obviously one is for the rotation. I've scouted a few pitchers I think could potentially be available depending on their teams standing when it comes time, so what do you think it would take to get them? All are free agents after 2016.

                  John Danks (CWS)
                  Jered Weaver (LAA)
                  Stephen Strasburg (WAS)
                  Jorge de la Rosa (COL)
                  Andrew Cashner (SD)

Obviously these guys would have to be doing well enough for me to want them, so some of them may be out of contention for me when it comes time.

Other than most of the major league roster, the only untouchables for me are Yoan Moncada, Anderson Espinoza, Andrew Benintendi.

Baez or Soler would have to be in any package for Gray or Archer. Bruce wouldn't require either and shouldn't cost much. IIRC they were trying to pay Tornoto to take him until a prospect's physical was bad or something along those lines.

We've had the Archer to CHC discussion before, just use the search function. Gray for Baez/Soler + Torres + Vogelbach? Idk, someone who doesn't overvalue Cubs players can objectively help you lol.

It would take Moncada, and I don't think the Mets take any deal without him. Devers + Benintendi + Kopech + idk, it would take more.. Even if the Mets were way back in the standings, they still wouldn't trade Harvey. Very unrealistic, and even more so w/o Moncada and Espinoza.

Like Bard said, target Strasburg. If you want control, target Sonny Gray.

In terms of decreasing value it's probably something like this:
                    Strasburg
                    Cashner
                    De La Rosa
                    Danks
                    Weaver

and the last three wouldn't cost much at all..

I would suggest trading your prospects not named Espinosa, Devers, Moncada - Benitendi, Kopech, Sam Travis, etc. and packaging them 2 for 1 for BIG TIME prospects, or good MLB players (you might have to throw in a MLBer) and then going after Harvey/Strasburg with those guys. I ended up getting Chris Archer, but I had to upgrade Benitendi and Kopech for Steven Matz and then using him to get Archer. Look at what each team needs and then go after the starter you want.

I don't really see a team wanting two shortstop prospects (Baez's natural position). I'm sure Beane wants some kind of retribution for the way that Epstein pulled one over on him after the Samardzija and Russell trade. Remember the Cubs traded Samardzija and Hammel for Russell and McKinney. Now the Cubs have Hammel back and a gold-glove caliber 22-year old shortstop in Russell. It's safe to say the Cubs got the better end of that deal already.

With that in mind I would imagine the A's would want some pitching prospects thrown in for Gray. I doubt they would want Torres AND Baez, especially since the A's are in a partial, if not full-blown rebuild.

I think Gleyber Torres, centerfielder Albert Almora (Cubs 1st overall pick a few years back), and a pair of pitching prospects (any two besides Dwayne Underwood) would likely do the trick.

Baez can play all over the field, and Torres is so far off that it's a non-factor. He's like 19. They would happily take Baez + Torres. Theo did the exact same thing, stockpile SS, they're versatile.

Baez is young enough to be a part of a "full blown rebuild" so there's not really a conversation there. Like I said in my last post.. Baez or Soler would be included in any deal for Gray, period. There's ways to get around that, but it's not realistic imo.

If you want something to compare to, I gave up Schwarber, Tseng, and a B POT OF prospect for Gray in my franchise. This was in 2017, so it's a little different, but that might give you a little idea. Schwarber had lost some value in mine after struggling through his first season.
