Good luck Armor! Keep the momentum going!

Fantasy draft has been huge for me as well. I'm really enjoying it, now it's time I put my effort into one team enough to get through the whole season haha.

The Sox are playing like total **** right now.

Those were the sentiments put forward by manager John Farrell after a horrible six-game home stand that saw the Sox win just one game.

Their lead in the division shrunk to as low as 1 1/2 games before that final win against the Rays to end the short home stand.

It has certainly been one of "those" periods where the bats have nothing on them. That's been the big let down. Even Joey Gallo has gone flat and everyone else around him is following suit, except for Jorge Mateo.

Perhaps Mateo's energy will liven up the team again. But it won't be enough alone.

Also not helping is that the bullpen before Chapman is questionable and after Chapman is decent-but-not-great.

In the middle of that, Chapman has lowered his ERA to 0.45.

The rotation is trying to hold its own, but Maeda's absence is just proving how valuable he is. He was arguably the most important pick up last season and his injury is showing why. Sale and Walker are usually solid but no one else is close to consistent except maybe Weaver. Fortunately, Maeda will be back soon.

Ozzie Rodriguez arrives in how long? His Nomo-esque delivery can't get here soon enough.

The Sox are 5-10 entering the second half of August, the record down to 64-56. Something will need to break positive and in a hurry.

Met's Rally Behind Homer Bailey/Mike Trout Even NLCS 1-1 with a 5-3 Win At St Louis

The NY Met's used a 2R HR from Mike Trout and 7.1 strong innings from starter Homer Bailey to even their NLCS vs Matheny's Red Birds 1-1. Starter Yordano Ventura was cruising for 5 innings until he yielded 5 runs in the 6th inning. He never recorded an out and left pitching just 5 innings. Mike Trout had an exclamation point hitting a 2R HR after three runs had already came in. Bryce Harper (solo shot on a 3-0 pitch) and Greg Bird (2R HR) provided the offense for the Cardinals. Francisco Lindor stayed red hot at the dish as well collecting 2 hits. The Cards now head to Citi Field with Kenta Madea on the bump and look to take back home field advantage this evening.

            August Report
Sox Begin September in Second Place

            Standings

The Sox have completely wasted the lead they began August with and now sit 1/2 game behind the Rays for the division.

August was a nightmare of a month on all fronts. The team posted a paltry 10-17 record in the month and have gone from control of their down destiny to fighting to stay over .500, let alone for first place in the division.

The team's 69-64 mark has them sitting at .519, and of even greater concern, the team is playing poorly against the division...which is all that awaits the Sox in September - another trip through the division.

            Player Performances

On the plus side of this dark scenario is that Joey Gallo is back on track. He's close to matching his HR total and has improved his walk rate to 10%, giving him more walks already than he had last season.

Also encouraging is that Stephen Piscotty continues to be worth it. However, what's mystifying is that he's been barking...and loudly...about being unhappy with his performance. What has he done? How about a .900 OPS and a 4.8 WAR?

In fact, it seems the clubhouse has come apart. Losing can do that, but some of the guys are agitated for some seemingly random reasons, like Piscotty above or Schwarber just now realizing that Boston is in Massachusetts, which is not close to Ohio.

Random anger aside - Chapman is still kicking butt though August was so bad, even his ERA went up...to 1.07. Kelvin Herrera has turned into Familia (not a good thing) and his ERA skyrocketed to nearly 5.00. And Taijuan Walker might win 20 games. He has 16 wins and four in a month is not out of the question...and it doesn't look like Boston will have the luxury to resting folks...

            Player Development/Prospect News

Ken Kojima will be having elbow surgery. Fortunately, it won't be Tommy John surgery, but still scary nonetheless. Some speculate he was pitching with the injury for a while and that might be what was behind his AAA implosion.

Kodi Medeiros is starting to see some of those positive results scouts thought would come. He's got his ERA down to just over 4.00 and everything else, aside from his record, is looking fine. Scouts remain positive on his progress.

Carson Fulmer is having an excellent season for Pawtucket. He has 200 Ks in 186 innings and an 2.95 ERA. He should be rewarded with some playing time once the AAA season ends, but it might be limited given that every single game is crucial for the parent club right now.

Mallex Smith is determined to get his roster spot back and he hopes to do it with ridiculous defense. Scouts keep noticing his routes getting better. "Just when you think, okay, he's about as good as he'll get, another game will go by and more 'how did he get that' moments play out, " one scout spoke. Offensively, he's still on track to be a decent contact hitter and of course the speed.

Of the team's teenage infielders, Hitoki Nomura is doing the best. He's outclassing Lou Urbina and Lucius Fox. The saving grace on Urbina's and Fox's side is that Nomura has been moved officially to the right side of the infield. That will remove Nomura from direct competition for ABs at Portland. If Nomura can get the arm going even a little more, he might be put on the fast track to the majors next season.

            Rumor Mill

Some think Kyle Schwarber is talking his way out the door. His personality change with this losing streak is part understandable (no one enjoys losing), but also troubling considering he's one that's counted on to pull the team out of the muck.

Miguel Sano is another one, but for a different reason. What's the story surrounding his name? Being replaced by Gallo.

"Gallo to LF, trade Sano for a strong pitcher and bring in a 3B, either with the trade or from somewhere else, " one sports radio host commented.

It's unlikely that Sano will be traded, especially to move Gallo. Trading for a pitcher might make sense, but the team has Ozzie Rodriguez coming, not to mention Urias has found his footing in the majors, Maeda has proven to be for real, and Walker is growing by the day, closing in on "mini-ace" status.

Of course, if a big time pitcher was available, perhaps the Sox would pull the trigger, but, if anything, the team would go pure defense in the outfield. Smith/DeShields/Buxton - and wouldn't matter who went where.

More likely would be Schwarber's departure. He's not made the same jump up as Gallo has and continues to be very streaky, though generally effective.

The PawSox will be playing in the AAA playoffs as a Wild Card club. That's at least encouraging to see one level of the organization playing well.

Portland can be forgiven since a lot of raw talents are down there right now. Plus some promoted to AAA.

Meanwhile, fans might start watching the PawSox because the Red Sox have started 0-4 in September and are now 2 1/2 games back. If the season ended today, the defending champions would be watching the 2017 playoffs.

                  ROUGH MONTH

The Tribe limped into the month of May losing 3 out of the previous 5 games. The theme with this team seems to be a substantial lack of pitching. The 6th & 7th innings have proven to be fatal for the Tribe so far this season. The Indians are 5-4 at home, and 6-8 away from The Jake. Here's a look at the end of month statistics for the Indians:

                  Rumors
Sources close to the league office have confirmed chatter that the Indians and the Marlins are working on a possible trade. The Indians are said to be offering Jake Marisnick, Jose De Leon & Phil Gosselin in return for Josh Harrison & Coco Crisp. That same package is being offered to the Athletics in return for the young right hander Carlos Martinez.

The Indians are also in discussion with the Mets about Left-Hander C.C. Sabathia. The Tribe is said to be offering SP David Huff & 2B Prospect Matt Reynolds in return for Sabathia. This deal would surely be contingent on a deal being struck for Josh Harrison.

                  Next Up
David Huff faces off against Jhoulys Chacin in the rubber match against the Phillies. A day off will follow before playing 6 out of nine games at home against Detroit (10-14) & Kansas City (13-10). The tribe will than face off against Houston (13-11) before a day off and a 5 game home stand.

                    It gets worse

The pitching imploded again resulting in a 9-5 loss. That wasn't even the worst news. In the third inning Brett Wallace was pulled from the game, gripping his chest after swinging and missing at a low curve. The medical staff believes Wallace will miss 3-4 weeks with a strained pectoral. Kelly Johnson filled in for Wallace & after going 3-3 / raising his avg to .462 will continue to play first for the time being.

                      TRANSACTION ALERT

The tribe swung a deal with the mets for SP C.C. Sabathia. The tribe sent SP David Huff & 2B prospect Matt Reynolds to the mets

The hope is that Sabathia and his 3.00 era will help stabilize the rotation.

In corresponding moves, the Indiands signed two veterans from free agency.
RP Jason Grilli was signed to a 1 year 2.8 mil deal - and will report to AAA Columbus to get some work in and provide insurance if the major league pen continues to falter.
RF Marlon Byrd was signed to a 1 year 4 mil deal. Byrd will report directly to Cleveland to fill the vacancy left by Brett Wallace injury. Byrd will look to get some time in against lefties at 1st base & hopes to push the issue with Jake Marisnicks roster space.

(Can't recall which league tulo resides in) poor Dansby Swanson is gonna have a heck of a time gaining any sort of positional awards / all star births!

Wow. Poor Swanson indeed. He better put the big boy pants on and start doing it all or he's going to look like a scrub by comparison!

Either that or "arrange" for some knees to start blowing out.

Idk what it is about Swanson but I love playing with him. He's won 5 games for me already this year (on either walk offs or go aheads). Him and Frazier really seem to be working out well. I've been binge playing all day today!

Hovering 1 game over .500 almost two weeks into may. Luckily that included a series victory against the division leading royals. Sabathia has given up 4 runs over 15 innings with a win and a nd. He and Fulmer are the only starters with sub 4 eras. Porcello is pitching awful (but due to his contract length and $$$) will not be removed from the rotation

The Sox might have woken up.

They've won 5 of their last 7, including 2 of 3 against the Rays, and find themselves in a deadlocked tie with the Rays with 19 games to play.

The biggest outburst in a while came against the Rockies as it was a slugfest. Taijuan Walker couldn't contain the Rockies bats, who were acting like they brought Denver's air with them. Rockies were up 4-0, then 5-4, and then 6-5 before Buehrle came in and restored order.

With that lull from the Rockies, the Sox offense took command of the game. Mark Trumbo was a star with 4 RBI and nearly hit for the cycle. He had a chance in his 5th time up to get it done and hit a grounder up the middle, but it wasn't to be. He ended up a single short. Yes, slow Trumbo got the triple and missed the single!

Sox still have work to do and there's plenty of time for things to go flat again, but at least there's some positive signs at last.

The Birdman Takes Flight (3-4 HR, RBI) Powers Cards To A 2-1 Series Lead as Red Birds Pitching Staff Combine For A 3-0 Shutout!

October 17th 2016 - The Cardinals came into Citi-Field looking to get back home field advantage. Mission accomplished. Kenta Madea the NL Rookie Of The Year bounced back from his 1/3 of an inning outing in the NLDS (left in the 1st after surrendering 4 runs on 4 hits with a strained forearm) to pitch 5 shutout innings. Before surrendering a lead off single in the bottom of the 6th he had retired 10 straight Mets. The Cardinals bullpen was lights out as they combined to preserve the shutout and give the Red Birds a solid 3-0 win. Medina, Smoker, J.T Chargois and Betances were excellent. Charges was able to work out of a bases loaded jam and has really become the main right handed set-up man over the last 2 months. His post season has been stellar as well as Betances as both pitchers have yet to surrender a run and have combined for 15 K's in 6 innings of work. Simply dominant. Francisco Lindor continues to hit the ball as he had an RBI double. Salvador Perez had a sac fly rbi as well.

The Red Birds will look to seize control of the series as Carlos Rodon takes the hill in game 4.

Re: Official MLB The Show 16 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

Injuries are picking a terrible time to strike...and two of them will have an effect on any postseason play the Red Sox see.

The first one was an injury to Piscotty. This one happened earlier in the month and he will be back before the season ends - perhaps any day now. That will be good because...

...Emilio Bonifacio will be out for the playoffs. He fractured his forearm diving for a ground ball. He was giving Russell a day off. This is a serious blow to the depth of the bench, where Bonifacio was providing valuable support around the diamond.

But that's not all. Delino DeShields, Jr. suffered another serious injury. He broke his foot running from first to third. Perhaps it happened while rounding second or coming off the bag at second, or perhaps it landed funny on his slide into third. Either way, he's out for 4-8 weeks.

Both of these injuries occurred in the same game, a 3-2 loss to the Rockies following the slugfest 13-6 win.

Since the Red Sox have no other bench players that can fill Bonifacio's role, they will have to shift Kike Hernandez's playing role. That acquisition wasn't loved by the media in Boston, but now it really looks key. When a right-handed starter is on the mound, Hernandez will fill Bonifacio's role. Against a southpaw, the team will try to make do as Kike's bat is too good against lefties to relegate to the bench.

Called up is Mallex Smith to take over CF. Buxton will slide over to RF. The offense will probably drop some, but the defense will be strong, perhaps a notch or two stronger in RF.

Also getting the call is Avery Romero. He can play 2B and 3B so that will help the infield depth a bit as well. The AAA playoffs are still going on, so when they are through, the bench will expand just from that at least.
