Game 14 - Pittsburgh Pirates (5-8) at San Diego Padres (9-4)

San Diego gets behind early as Bartolo Colon is roughed up for 3-runs in the first inning highlighted by a Chris Coghlan 2-run HR to left to give the Pirates the early 3-0 lead. The home squad would tie things up in the 6th inning off of a 2-run homer of their own off the bat of Freddie Freeman to tie the game at 3-3 after 6 innings of play.

Trouble arrives again for San Diego in the top of the 7th as the Pirates manage to load the bases on a walk and two singles. But with the base-loaded an no-out. The Padres dance out of trouble with Chasen Bradford getting a strikeout and then replaced by Phil Coke who strikes out Coglan and then gets Nick Hundley to lazily fly out to Ichiro in right field to dance out of the inning not allowing any runs.

"The adrenaline was pumping for sure. That is as fired up as I have been this season." -- Phil Coke, SD Padres.

The rest of the San Diego bullpen pitched masterfully with Jason Grilli going two scoreless innings followed by a 1-2-3 top of the 10th inning by Fernando Rodney. In the home half of the 10th Carlos Correa stepped up to the plate with 1-out and smashes a 2-0 slider just over the wall in right center for the walkoff 4-3 win.

"Once the count went 2-0, I was looking for a fastball away. I got a slider up and put a good swing on it." -- Carlos Correa, San Diego Padres.

Game 2 is set for Wednesday night with the Padres Daniel Norris (1-1, 2.25) taking on the Pirates Kyle Lohse (0-1, 2.77). The Padres now site tied for 1st in the NL West with the Colorado Rockies. Both teams have a 3 game lead over the LA Dodgers.

Game 15 - Pittsburgh Pirates (5-9) at San Diego Padres (10-4)

The Pirates grabbed an early lead in the first inning off a mammoth first pitch fastball HR to left off the bat of Paul Goldschmidt. Then after a Daniel Norris error on a nubber to 3rd base, Khris Davis smashed a 3-run HR into the 2nd deck of the Metal Supply Company building to give the Pirates a commanding 5-0 lead after 5 full innings of play.

"I was looking for something offspeed on the 3-2 pitch. He hung one, and I crushed it." -- Khris Davis, Pittsburgh Pirates.

Kyle Lohse proceeded to keep the Padres off the scoreboard through 8 innings but could not close the deal in the 9th inning. After getting the first out. Matt Wieters lined a single up the middle and the next batter, Ryan Flaherty hit a 2-2 slider over the wall in left center for a 2-run shot, ending the night for Lohse. Jake McGee records the final 2 outs of the game for the 6-2 Pittsburgh win.

"I have to credit our defense as much as the offense. Two double plays and two guys thrown out at the plate. A great team effort tonight" -- Kyle Lohse, Pittsburgh Pirates.

Game 3 is set for Thursday afternoon with the Padres sending Adam Wainwright (2-1, 1.96) to the mound in the rubber match to take on the Pirates undefeated ace lefthander Cole Hamels (2-0, 1.04).

Re: Official MLB The Show 16 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

Thought it may be time to check in since I reached the end of April in my Angels MoM Fantasy Franchise. IIRC, I had an early 20's pick in the 1st round and my first section was Anthony Rizzo followed by Corey Kluber and Andrew McCutchen.

After managing all 30 Spring Training Games, Mike Fiers squeaked out the 5th spot in the rotation beating out Marco Estrada, James Paxton, and Steven Wright and Jeff Bianchi solidified his spot as a utility player to fill in around the infield. In fact, this was our Opening Day 25-Man Roster.

We got off to a hot start to the year by winning 8 of the first 9 games of the year before we cooled off considerably (7-8 since that point, but still leading the division by 1.5 games). In the fourth game of the year, Brad Miller went down with a broken ankle diving for a ball in the hole and still has another 3-4 weeks of recovering at the end of April. In his place, we called up the 27-year old Bronx Native T.J. Miller to try to plug a hole at SS with the journeyman veteran Jeff Bianchi. Miller hasn't played SS in two years or so, but he and Bianchi are doing fine enough covering the position. It still is a spot that we want to see some improvement from in the next month, but our minors has also been hit hard with injuries (9 players on the DL) so we're struggling a bit with depth.

Regarding the rest of the lineup, we are definitely a team that is struggling to actually have any punch except for Andrew McCutchen (who's second in the MLB with 11 HRs). David Ortiz has been noticeably cold all month and only has 3 HRs in 82 ABs and hitting a paltry .172 against LHP. He's definitely someone to monitor in the next month or two to see if he can recover in his final year. Stephen Piscotty has also been disappointing this year and has really struggled to solidify his spot in the lineup. I drafted Piscotty, who is a natural RF, to play LF since I had already drafted Kole Calhoun and he just hasn't looked comfortable. With Austin Jackson hitting well (albeit in limited playing time) and the young guns in the minors creeping up, he may lose some playing time. On the bright side, Derek Norris has done a great job with the bat, but a terrible job behind the plate. I have been literally getting notices that Norris does not have a great rapport with the pitching staff, but it's hard to bench a .294 hitting catcher.

Our pitching has been hit or miss throughout the first month. Surprisingly, it's been Rick Porcello who has been leading the charge in the rotation 4 of his 5 starts in the month of April were quality starts including his last start which he ended up a hard luck loser while throwing a complete game on the road. Sonny Gray has also been good and Mike Fiers has done a decent job in the number 5 spot. Corey Kluber has struggled, but I'm not worried about him. The pitcher I'm worried the most may have the most prestigious pedigree however. Justin Verlander has struggled mightily with his control as well as giving up the gopher ball. I haven't been impressed at all with him which is worrying when he is signed for another 4 years through his age 36 season.

In the pen, the trio of Arodys Vizcaino, Kelvim Herrera, and Tyler Clippard have been outstanding while the rest of the bullpen could use improvement.

If you guys want to know anything else about the league, feel free to ask. I'll leave you with our April Team Stats and I'll post another update after I finish up the month of May.

Game 16 - Pittsburgh Pirates (6-9) at San Diego Padres (10-5)

The Padres lose their 2nd straight home series this season as the Pittsburgh Pirates sneak out the series rubber match win a 2-1 win. Chris Coghlan smack a 2-run HR to right in the 4th inning and that would be all the offence needed. Cole Hamels has a strong night going 6.2 IP with 5 H 1 R 1 ER 2 BB 2 K's tom improve his record to 3-0 on the season.

Sand Diego manage a lead off runner in the 9th on a Jorge Soler single. He is sacrifices to 2nd base but that's as far as he would get. Arodys Vizcaino gets a ground out followed by a pop-out to 2B to grab his 3rd save of the season.

"A great win for us today. Hopefully we can ride this into our next series." -- Chris Coghlan, Pittsburgh Pirates.

The St. Louis Cardinals are in town for the final 3 games of the 9 game home stand. The Cards will have Lance McCullers (1-1, 5.00) take on the Padres young phenom Aaron Sanchez (2-0, 1.99).

Game 17 - St. Louis Cardinals (6-9) at San Diego Padres (10-6)

San Diego drops their 3rd straight game at home against a strong pitching performance from Lance McCullers of the Cardinals. The St. Louis right hander gives up 2-runs in the bottom of the first but settled down to absolutely shutdown the Padres. His final line 8.0 IP 5 H 2 R 2 ER 2 BB 6 K's to improve his record to 2-1. San Diego's bats remained rather silent managing only 6 hits with only 1 extra base hit (Jorge Soler double).

"I kept guys off balance all game. I felt like I could locate all of my pitches today. Smitty (Kevan Smith) called a hell of a game" -- Lance McCullers, St. Louis Cardinals.

Game 2 of the series goes Saturday afternoon with Padres Brandon Finnegan (1-0, 2.12) taking on undefeated Alex Wood (2-0, 4.79). The Padres current 3 game losing streak is the longest of the season so far.

Game 17 - St. Louis Cardinals (7-9) at San Diego Padres (10-7)

The Padres young lefty Brandon Finnegan puts an end to the 3-game losing streak by throwing an absolute gem of a game. The lefthander records the first complete game shutout of his career holding the Cards to just 5 hits. A logn with his great night on the mound, his final line being 9.0 IP 5 H 0 R 0 ER 1 BB 8 K's, he also managed a double and walked twice and scoring once on the night.

Finnegan's battery mate Matt Wieters had a great day at the plate finishing the game 3 for 4 with a HR and 2 RBI's on the day. Freddie Freeman knocked in the other two runs on the day, both on hard singles.

"It was the best game I have pitched in the majors so far in my career, my sinker was heavy tonight and kept me out of any trouble." -- Brandon Finnegan, San Diego Padres.

Game 3 of the series goes Sunday goes Sunday afternoon with Padres sending Bartolo Colon (1-1, 2.57) to the mound in the rubber match to face the Cardinals Francisco Liriano (0-2, 3.60).

Game 18 - St. Louis Cardinals (7-10) at San Diego Padres (11-7)

San Diego loses a third straight series at home as the Cardinals double up on the Padres 4-2. Francisco Liriano grabs his first win of the year going 6.1 IP allowing 5 hits but only giving up 2 earned runs despite issuing 3 walks while striking out 5. Bartolo Colon drops to 1-2 on the year and is roughed up for 3 runs on 9 hits in 7 innings of play.

Hunter Pence got the key hit in the 7th with a triple to right center that scores 2 runs and gave the Cards a 3-0 lead that they would not relinquish. Pence finished the day 3 for 5 with a triple, 2 RBI's and a stolen base.

"The beard game was strong today. I carried that into the game. Results speak for themselves." -- Hunter Pence, St. Louis Cardinals.

The Padres finished the home stand 3-6 and has lost 4 of their last 5 games. Jorge Soler was a late scratch and is listed at day to day with tricep soreness. San Diego starts off a short 6-game road trip through California, first heading to San Francisco for 3 games with the Giants followed by 3 games in Los Angeles against the Dodgers. Game 1 has the Giants Carlos Carrasco (1-2, 3.90) taking on the Padres Daniel Norris (1-2, 2.57).

Game 19 - San Diego Padres (11-8) at San Francisco Giants (8-12)

Trouble continues for the Padres in the first game of a 3 game series in San Francisco. After jumping to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning an 2-run Freddie Freeman HR it look like things were going to turn around for the Padres. However, everything derails in the 4th inning where the home Giants grab a walk, 3 singles and a sacrifice fly to round up a 4-run inning and solidify a 5-1 lead.

The Padres would chip away all night cutting the lead to 5-4 going into the 9th inning. But closer Javy Guerra shuts the door despite allowing Jarrod Dyson to reach first on a nubber infield single and the steals 2nd with one out. But he manages to get Ichiro and Howie Kendrick to flyout to record his 6th save of the season.

"We are in a funk right now. But tomorrow is another game. It just takes one to start a winning streak " -- Andy Greene, San Diego Padres - Manager.

Game 2 of the 3 game series goes tomorrow night and has San Diego's ace Adam Wainwright (2-2, 2.10) taking on the Giants Kenta Maeda (1-3, 3.29).

Game 21 - San Diego Padres (11-9) at San Francisco Giants (9-12)

The San Diego Padres bats explode for 5 runs on 12 hits in an easy 5-0 road win over the Giants. The Padres struck early in this one scoring 1 run in the first and 2 runs in the 2nd, and added 2 more runs in the 4th to round out the scoring. Giants starter Kenta Maeda was chased from the game after 3.1 IP allowing 5 runs on 9 hits while walking 2 and only recording 3 strikeouts.

Adam Wainwright was outstanding in the win keeping the San Francisco batters at bay all night long. His high strikeout count of 8 causes him to have a high pitch count and he is taken out of the game in the 8th inning with 5-0 lead. Wainwright improves his record to 3-2 on the year and lowers his ERA to 1.69.

"Glad to see the boys bats came alive tonight. It made me pitch free and easy and the results obviously were in turn...good" -- Adam Wainwright, San Diego Padres

Game 3 of the 3 game series goes Wednesday afternoon with San Diego's young phenom Aaron Sanchez (2-1, 2.51) taking on the Giants Kyle Gibson (2-1, 3.41).

                          Opening Day

I picked the Phillies due to their high draft pick....I set out and accomplished the task of drafting no players over 75 overall, and very little "high end'' prospects. Here is a look at the 25 man roster, as well as my top prospects heading into opening day.

*I spent many of my first 25 picks on SP & RP that were rated 75-70, so at the very least, I can sustain the awfulness*

As you can see, there are some possible stars in the minors, in Groome, Shipley & Rogers. After that, there aren't too many sure bets. Cowart will more than likely become the starting 3rd baseman before the AS Break. Wiith Brown & Mancini both intriguing prospects, but far from sure things, the hope is that Matt Adams & Tyler Flowers can produce in the time being.

                          This should be interesting...

                            Opening Day Preview

The Phillies travel to Ohio to take on the Cincinnati Reds on Opening Day. Bud Norris has the unenviable task of facing off against Max Scherzer.

The Reds pitching is a force to be reckoned with. Scherzer, Gray & Matz lead the rotation, with Carson Smith, Trevor Gott, Jumbo Diaz and Joaquin Benoit bridging the gap to closer David Robertson.

Offesnviley, the Reds are lead by corner infielders Todd Frazier & Kendry Morales, and their 3 stalwart outfielders, Puig, Eaton, & Alex Gordon.

Game 22 - San Diego Padres (12-9) at San Francisco Giants (9-13)

The Giants are victimized by the long ball in this one as the visiting San Diego Padres strike in the 4th inning with a splashdown solo HR from Joc Pederson, then two outs and a walk later a 2-run HR of the bat of Ryan Flaherty to center, which is immediately followed by a back to back solo shot HR to deep center from Matt Wieters to make it a 4-0 game after 4 innings of play.

Aaron Sanchez would grab his 3rd win of the season on a solid outing. His line 7.0 IP 7 H 2 R 1 ER 0 BB 5 K's. After the Giants cut the lead to 4-2 through 7 complete innings Joc Pederson hits an absolute bullet line drive homer to the opposite field for his 2nd HR of the day, giving the Padres a 3-run lead after 8 innings. Roberto Osuna grabs his 5th save in the 5-2 final.

"This is a big confidence boost for me. Hitting one into the cove tends to do that." -- Joc Pederson, San Diego Padres

The Padres enjoy an off day before ending the month of April with a 3 game series against the NL West leading LA Dodgers. Game 1 of the 3 game series has the Padres sending Brandon Finnegan (2-0, 1.38) to the mound to face the Dodgers Matt Moore (2-1, 3.48).

Re: Official MLB The Show 16 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

Ok I give up. I have been playing The Show since there has been a Show to play. It is the only sports game I regularly play.

So this thread caught my eye and I was like that could be a lot of fun. Its what I do in OOTP why not try it with this game.

I have drafted 4 teams over the last day or so and for the life of me I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong or if the game is just that broken as far as drafting a fantasy draft. My team is fine and but every other team has like 15 pitchers with 1 or 2 guys on the bench, how is the possible and is there a work around that does not involve drafting for every team manually?

Last question. Is there an opportunity to set your roster before spring training that I am missing. It only allows me to have my 25 man roster in spring training unless I manually call up the rest. Which I guess is fine and more realistic to use the options right off the bat. But it is kind of annoying that your full 40 man is not called up in to spring trainging. Or that you cant decide who is on your 40 man before the season starts.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
