Gray was worth .7 WAR last year. Using the formula AC gave we should expect Gray to be worth about 1.8 WAR going forward. The most recent year is worth 60% of the projection and Gray was pretty bad last year. Schwarber is projected to accumulate 2.6 WAR this season according to STEAMER. So there along he's worth more this year and he has more team control. Then we get to the second half you mentioned. Happ is a really good prospect. Chalmers doesn't really have any fanfare in scouting communities. He didn't make it in the Top-10 of the A's list on Baseball America.

So Both Schwarber and Happ are markedly better than the piece coming from the A's side of the suggested deal.
You're right on his knee injury, I was talking in abstract and I shouldn't have. Thought at 6ft and 230+lbs, he's got a lot to prove which going to back to my original response, I really don't feel good talking about trading him this year. I think we should be discounting Schwarber's WAR as well as he is coming off that type of surgery and using the only comparison I can think of (Chipper Jones, though he was in his late 30's), was never quite the same player. Also, that Steamer projection is based on less that 120 games. While impressive, it's still only 75% of the year.

So to come full circle, for the sake of 'realism', does any deal for Schwarber make sense? Can we come up with a consensus for the poster to get Schwarber to an AL team he listed, or any AL for that matter? You and I are usually pretty close and we've got some other really good baseball people chiming in today...I'm curious just for curiosity sake.

After writing what I did about the knee I realized it made me sound like a bit of a "d-bag". So my bad there. There's got to be a matchup that can work in the AL.

CWS for Quintana. Maybe even just straight up.
TB for Archer. Probably need to add another prospect to him but I think there's a deal there.
TOR for either Stroman or Sanchez
      CLE for Carrasco
      SEA for Paxton
OAK for Gray plus or Cotton plus

Now there would be more to this deal, but I figured these headliners may work. The Cubs are pretty stacked with position players so it would have to be for a young starter and these seem to work. No sure what else would be added but any team would love to add a bat like Schwarber has to their lineup

My thick skin and gray hair tells me you're gonna have to come much stronger than that for me to think you are anything close to a "d-bag" my friend! Q and Archer are 4+ pieces from a strong farm (P. Gammons had Martes/Tucker +++ offered for Archer and I trust the Godfather). I like CLE plus a projectable arm and I like SEA a lot with the same plus a smaller piece.

Coming back to OAK, we don't know what S. Gray is going to be until he comes off the DL so we might want to hold back in general until he gets some innings under his belt.

Again, I'm trying real hard not to sell low on Schwarber as that will bring the Cubbies out in force so if either (thought I think the poster said he was doing a trade during ST) has an appropriate record to sell, we should be getting close.

Fellas I appreciate the feedback. I'm going to go with Oakland.

I know you said Gray plus or Cotton plus but I will send both Gray and Cotton for Schwarber.

In my humble opinion, good overpay for a player you want to play with. I also prefer to tax myself for players I want. Others may disagree but...good trade.

Frankly, one of the better trade debates we've had in the couple weeks I've been shaking off the rust, thanks for bringing it up.

Glad I could bring positivity to the thread lol. I've been lurking since page one but haven't really needed a trade with my Cubs franchise. Although that will change when I enter year three. That year I'll have decisions to make with my young position players.

It stays fairly positive as long as the vets chime in but yeah, I love positive/info based debates.

If you have the same farm as this year you're going to have more trade capital than you know what to do with. IRL, I still see the Cubs as players for one of the young studs that will be available at the deadline this year (Archer, Q, etc...well, maybe not so much with the etc.) as with practically everybody you have coming up is blocked.

Whats the more realistic deal here?

                  Sox get:
                  Tyler Glasnow
                  Austin Meadows

                  Pirates get:
                  Jose Quintana

                  OR

                  Sox get:
                  Eloy Jimenez
                  Ian Happ
                  Jeimer Candelario

                  Cubs get:
                  Jose Quintana

No numbers yet. Just getting an idea for when i get to trade deadline. Either wait til deadline for Pirates trade or off-season for cubs trade

the second one because the pirates will never trade meadows, and they most likely won't trade Glasnow

I also think Jimenez and Happ is too rich. Jimenez will likely be top 10 if he isn't already by the time Quintana is traded. If the Cubs did that offer they'd be able to get Archer instead

Yeah I went and looked at the valuing top prospects article on Fangraphs and the Pirates package is $92 million in prospects and the Cubs package listed is $118 in prospects

Hey guys, I'm a long time lurker and a new poster to this thread. I've just started an Athletics franchise with the OSFM V1.5 rosters. I was just wondering how much it would cost me (if even possible) for expensive MLB ready players like Jackie Bradley Jr, Gary Sanchez, Jose Quintana and Yasiel Puig, equally expensive prospects like Aaron Judge, Greg Bird, and Yoan Moncada, and utility players like Brock Holt and Shohei Otani. Sorry for the long list and thanks for the help!

So I'm looking to bolster my Angels bullpen. I don't like how the middle relievers are looking (especially Blake Parker and Jose Alvarez). What trades do you guys suggest to get some better bullpen arms?

Puig would be the easiest to justify for the sake of realism. I don't know the A's roster very well this year, but if you have a solid reliever and a Mid B Prospect I think that would be fair.

JBJ would probably command an 80+ and a Mid B prospect... one of them being an outfielder.

Sanchez, Judge, Moncada and Bird are probably all off limits if you ask me. Not that they wouldn't consider a Trade, but they are all young, cheap and A potential. Don't know who the A's could begin to offer to pull that off.
