    Re: Too many HR's?

I moved my hitting difficulty up to legend while keeping pitching at Hall Of Fame (default sliders and zone hitting) Yankees against the Royals and I was almost no hit. I just managed to get 1 hit off of Duffy in the 7th and that was about it. No hrs in the game on either side. Im going to roll with this set up for a while to see how my numbers look.

The addition of "Retro Mode" as well as the rise in offense speaks to where SDS wanted to go with this year's game:

They want more of the "casual players."

        Re: Too many HR's?

In the small sample size of games I have played, I haven't seen anything out of the ordinary. I have hit some homers, and I have given up some homers. Only one homerun was over 420 feet. Another homerun was a slicer down the right field line that seemed to not come down. I have been playing on All star difficulty.

With that said, this is why sliders exist. Are the people who are having problems not messing around with them to find the right balance?

          Too many HR's?

I've played 8 games in spring training. I've hit 6 hr and have given up 9.

            So, here's a question.

If SDS puts out a patch that drastically lowers home run frequency and distance, the guys saying "it shouldn't take sliders, the the game is broken right now" will be happy.

The people like me who don't have an issue with HR frequency or distance will be unhappy. When we speak up, won't your answer be "well just use sliders?" Shouldn't this work both ways?

I'm not saying there isn't an issue. I'm not saying it doesn't need a fix, but every sports game I have played for years required sliders for me to get a sim experience. You can't just ignore why they are included with the game. Unless SDS patches something, the sliders ARE the fix.

I think the more likely scenario is the new physics system is a big overhaul and they might just be in the process of making some fine tuned adjustments under the hood in relation to hr frequency and distance

                  Re: Too many HR's?

I'm not going to read 22 pages worth of discussion on this. But based on last year, didn't the MLB see a huge rise in the amount of HRs hit? That with the addition of a new physics engine could be leading to a perceived increase in HR frequency. Without someone actually keeping some semi-detailed stats or SDS actually reporting the numbers it's hard to take people's word for it. Confirmation bias is a real thing.

I stopped playing with 13 and came back for 16-17. (My interest in sports in general dropped off the planet but, when your team wins for the first time in over 100 years things seem to change lol) And I don't remember the community being so... full of entitled spoiled little brats. I've seen nothing but "the game doesn't work the way I want it to and it needs to change" and "this very small detail is going to keep me from enjoying this game" ever since I started to use this board and reddit again. It's frustrating.

As far as the topic at hand, I've not experienced this. If anything I've been hitting less home runs. I know the sliders point has been beaten into the ground so far, but as a reply to the person who said that default sliders should not "break" a game that's trying to be sim... 1) The word "broken" does not mean what you think it means and 2) I've never played a non-racing-simulation game that didn't require slider adjustments to properly enjoy. NFL 2k5 needed sliders to be a pure sim. The NBA 2k games yearly need sliders to be a pure sim. MLB The Show always needs sliders, especially for things like home runs and pitcher stamina. A sports game is never going to come out of the box and just "do the simulation thing." The developers give us the option to adjust sliders and difficulty for this very reason.

This seems the most likely scenario.

                          Re: Too many HR's?

                          Finally started my franchise.

First spring training game. Playing on All Star pitching and hitting (as I usually do every year). FIVE home runs in three full innings. Two by the CPU and 3 by me. (I use directional hitting/swing only).

I know three innings isn't a sample, but whoa! I guess I'll have to move up a level, and/or play with the sliders.

It's understandable that you're not a fan. And I wasn't really slamming this thread. I love what this thread is for because, while it's not a problem for me personally I too love solutions and for the most part it's what people are looking for. I hope you can see that part and other parts of that post was me venting some frustrations about a select number of posts I saw in this thread and in my general experience browsing the boards lately.

The game is fantastic. I've loved a majority of the seconds that I've spend playing it. It's stolen all of my free time since it came out. lol

I'm gonna work on ignoring things, promise. lol

Quoting myself here, but at the end of the game, spring training, 11-10 score with EIGHT home runs. Four by the CPU and 4 by me. I'm pretty good at this game and am not one to gripe about it (especially the dumb comeback code chatter), and it IS only after one game....but geez. I hit some moon shots.

Now if it just means I have to start searching around for a comfort zone (after playing predominantly on AS/default sliders for several years), then so be it (as the game is really gorgeous and feels new).

That said, there IS something going on here. Or I was just lucky/and unlucky pitching and need a bigger sample, but don't know.
