Re: MLB The Show 18 Video - Bat Flips

After seeing this video on facebook/twitter, I knew this debate was coming. And you all did not disappoint!

At first I thought these bat flips were ridiculous and an absolute joke and could never see myself using these so why would they implement them into this game.

Then I figured these flips are not applied to real MLB players even the generic ones and it’s something less hardcore gamers will enjoy and have fun with so what the hell.

    Carry on guys

But they really don’t care about Franchise .. It’s DD all day everyday and your right were lucky they add anything ..

I get that these aren't really meant for the type of audience that is in the majority of gamers at sites such as this one, but I still think that if we dislike the feature we should certainly speak up. The worst thing that could happen is that we keep sitting here and just accept things that move this game towards an arcade style of baseball, and then justify it that because we aren't the target audience for things that we shouldn't have a say.

Before you know it you will look back and wonder where you lost the series at and why you are playing MLB the Bigs or some EA product that doesn't resemble the sport in the title at all.

All of that being said... we can't cry like babies about it or irrationally blast off over these things. Just come in and say something like "hey, this is not for me and I won't use it at all" or "I wish these types of features weren't prominent aspects of a simulations style game that I wish to have made". The devs are more likely to read those comments and retain that input than irrational comparisons or chicken little statements.

Just my 2 cents on the matter.

It's actually laughable that anyone actually thinks these took away from any other part of the game, when in reality they most likely mo-capped these in probably an hour or so, and also done by people that don't work on other parts of the game. Not in the way people seem to think anyways.

Also, for the people who thought this small thing would take away from expansion/create-a-stadium

Honestly, I personally like these, just for the fact of making a random player with high potential and make them rather crazy looking and give them these kinds of show off type things. They're pretty entertaining honestly.

I mean, sure, in real life this would get people plunked but some seem to forget this is a VIDEO GAME.

If they'd just add the ability to use player lock but with any camera I wouldn't care if they added a Macarena dance to celebrations..

                As for these bat flips..
I'm glad it's not part of the randomizer and happy for anyone who wants these.
Some of these I wouldn't even begin to use but there's a whole lot more people than me that play so it's all good.

                  Ok

But just because you don’t like them and won’t use them (neither will I since they are tied to CAP and RTTS) doesn’t mean that someone else that is a fan of the game/series won’t.

And there is a far greater audience beyond that of YouTube, OS, and social media that plays this game.

Over a million units of ‘17 sold last year. I don’t think you’re going to see the opinion of all million players be shared on OS, YouTube or social media when trailers/videos such as these are released.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Video - Bat Flips

The sense of entitlement in this forum by grown adults each year is just fascinating. Considering we know that the bat flips are tied to CAP and RTTS and are OPTIONAL, what does it matter? If you are strictly a Franchise player then you won't ever see them anyway. You are not being forced to use them. This "I want what I want and I want it now!" attitude is so tired.

If SDS did ever add Create-a-Stadium to the game, everyone complaining about it not being in the game now would damn sure find something to complain about it if it was added. I guarantee it.

In no way do I feel like the addition of these bat flip animations took time away from something else. I don't mind them at all because I know they are optional. In fact, I will probably add one to my current RTTS first baseman I started in MLB 16. RTTS should be played however you want it to be. One of the funnest modes in the game. Franchise I take a bit more seriously so don't feel they would be needed there, but the fact they are in the game is no reason to get all up in arms.

People spend so much time complaining that this isn't in or that isn't in that they forget how to have fun.

I don't buy into the "rob Peter to pay Paul" theory.

I don't think that "bat flips" being in cost us something else.

It is what it is. We can turn it off. If you don't like it, don't use it. It's a great feature for people who like it, for those of us who don't, it's getting turned off and it'll be like it's not even there.

                        Really not a big deal.

Don't know how long it took or what else they might have done with that time, but like Arcade Mode last year and various other decisions, it's more just indicative to the direction the game (and sports games in general) seem to be heading.

Maybe they'll surprise me and actually have done something significant to Franchise, but it seems like they at far more interested in the casuals. I guess it's just a business decision and it makes more sense to spend your time making features that try and get new casual players than actually improve the game for the hardcore players who will almost certainly buy the game anyway.

It's sad but "improved AI in franchise mode" probably doesn't sell many copies.

It probably took more effort to produce this video than it did to MoCap the bat flips. And technically, there are already some over-the-top CAP/mode specific animations in The Show 17 - I say that because these will be just as (non)visible in the game.

Also, I thought this was an interesting post on MLB.com today...

Haha this thread cracks me up.

We should all realize that DD including all those micro transactions just might be the thing that keeps this awesome baseball development team/studio alive. Heck it probably helped them to aquire the rights to all these legends we have in the game now. Maybe they could even hire some extra employees to work on uniforms, gameplay, stadium and what not that improve the game overall.

Eitherway I think we all win in the end...well probably not everyone here [emoji1]
