Re: MLB The Show 18 Video - Bat Flips
I don't understand why it's a 50 cent argument.
Is this touted as a simulation? Yes.
Does the game use real ball physics? No.
Do we still have an issue with lazy throws to first? Yes.
Are there still a PLETHORA of issues with the gameplay that need to be addressed? Yes.
I will try to keep an open mind after reading many of the responses and say, yes, I understand that we at OS are not the majority of people buying this game and many people may want those bat flips and card collecting so you must cater to all audiences. With that said, I guess it's just frustration coming out in my posts. I'd be totally okay with not touching franchise (many others wouldn't) and adding unrealistic bat flips if they fix the legacy gameplay issues that have affected this game for years.
It is not worth it (to me) tackling 'all or nothing' approaches/criticisms. They are unrealistic and come from a place of emotion more often than not.
But I will make a remark that is just, well, tired of seeing such one side or the other discourse.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

It was the extremism of a binary argument that leaves out all the nuance that happens in any form of entertainment.

These bat flips and the custom stances will be great for fictional rosters."Cornbread makes my toenails hurt" or something like that.OSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23

Very briefly and with no detail, because this is not really the place for this discussion. Also in no particular order:
Trade Logic
Bull pen logic
AI roster management
Smoothing player animations
Fielders jogging instead of running after the ball (supposedly fixed this year)
All Star fielding abilities even average fielders
Passed balls/wild pitches ( supposedly tuned this year)
Bland/stale with no real depth beyond player management
Each year it seems some things on this list get tuned or touched on and usually I am happy with that. Even a little progress is still progress. In Loving memory of my "Cricket" 1/2/96 - 11/19/2012

Of course about half of those complaints are not limited to just Franchise.Comment

Saved them just for you.
"It is not a sim, I don't get beer spilled on me in Yankee Stadium!"... is honestly how some of the extreme criticisms sound.
I love constructive criticism, it literally drives the 'wishlist' threads, but man, it just seems some people lack nuance when they frame their arguments.
You still have to have balance in a game to maintain 'fun'. Not everything would translate well in a video game world, without tweaks to the how it is fed to the end user.
Just like the simple comment you made. "Does not have real ball physics." Well, it is not a real ball, it is a virtual world, and unless Brian Ma (dunno if he is still there) and company are coding in the next seat over from God; with the keys on how physics were conceived (all in 9 months dev time), then I do not see how it will have ever have 'real physics' or to that expectation. They will get it as 'realistic' as they can in a virtual environment, and it can/will be constantly tweaked, but some of the expectations on a 'needs to have this to call itself a sim' checklist seem to be disingenuous without taking all the nuance into account.
But what do I know.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

If so, we will have to wait and see the results, but so far, it does sound promising on that end if so.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

I thought the devs have repeatedly iterated and said it does?

Re: MLB The Show 18 Video - Bat Flips
The thread here concerns bat flips...so let's not digress into other topics.
Most are concerned that resources should be allocated elsewhere, with the underlying thought this takes considerable time to develop, code and implement. I think this would be fairly minimal...there is no coding with multiple variables such as where other players are (collusion), where the ball is and where it should end up, branching multiple animations, etc...I would think this would be fairly minimal in terms of implementation, like retro mode.
I would love to see more animations for IFs, OFs, etc...but I'm ok with this. We're older baseball fans and baseball needs younger viewers so this is just another carrot, some flare to attract the younger generation. Lets be real...my 10-year old self would love this. It's not realistic, the devs acknowledge that...it's purely for fun.

Man, I hope some kid who plays this game and sees a bat flip that he/she loves. Meets a MLB player and, their wish is one of these bat flips. Talk about melt down.Comment
