Casuals don't understand we are in for the long haul, the slow burn. The group of us that plays every pitch of every inning, thru spring training etc, one little improvement to us can make all of the difference in the world.

Every and I mean every version of The Show has had issues. '15 you could not pitch over at all without throwing the ball in the stands. which basically killed and entire aspect of the game. Last year I struggled between '16 and '17 and barely finished a season in each one onced '17 dropped. People I know play the same way I do and some went back to '16, but they still purchased '17. I ended up back in '17 knowing that this is just the next step and that beyond any doubt I WOULD be buying '18.

So yeah, in my opinion '18 will be the best selling game to date. Between the casuals that must have the newest and brightest of everything. To the dedicated franchise player, this game will be purchased by one and all. The only way "our" group of players will stop buying is if Franchise mode was stripped out or down completely.
As a fairly casual fan of the franchise, I'm kind of unaware of the common complaints of franchise mode. what are the main concerns/problems people have with franchise mode as is?

Is this touted as a simulation? Yes.
Does the game use real ball physics? No.
Do we still have an issue with lazy throws to first? Yes.
Are there still a PLETHORA of issues with the gameplay that need to be addressed? Yes.

I will try to keep an open mind after reading many of the responses and say, yes, I understand that we at OS are not the majority of people buying this game and many people may want those bat flips and card collecting so you must cater to all audiences. With that said, I guess it's just frustration coming out in my posts. I'd be totally okay with not touching franchise (many others wouldn't) and adding unrealistic bat flips if they fix the legacy gameplay issues that have affected this game for years.
It was the extremism of a binary argument that leaves out all the nuance that happens in any form of entertainment.

It is not worth it (to me) tackling 'all or nothing' approaches/criticisms. They are unrealistic and come from a place of emotion more often than not.

But I will make a remark that is just, well, tired of seeing such one side or the other discourse.

These bat flips and the custom stances will be great for fictional rosters.

Very briefly and with no detail, because this is not really the place for this discussion. Also in no particular order:

            Trade Logic
            Bull pen logic
            AI roster management
            Smoothing player animations
Fielders jogging instead of running after the ball (supposedly fixed this year)
All Star fielding abilities even average fielders
Passed balls/wild pitches ( supposedly tuned this year)
Bland/stale with no real depth beyond player management

Each year it seems some things on this list get tuned or touched on and usually I am happy with that. Even a little progress is still progress.

Of course about half of those complaints are not limited to just Franchise.

                Saved them just for you.

"It is not a sim, I don't get beer spilled on me in Yankee Stadium!"... is honestly how some of the extreme criticisms sound.

I love constructive criticism, it literally drives the 'wishlist' threads, but man, it just seems some people lack nuance when they frame their arguments.

You still have to have balance in a game to maintain 'fun'. Not everything would translate well in a video game world, without tweaks to the how it is fed to the end user.

Just like the simple comment you made. "Does not have real ball physics." Well, it is not a real ball, it is a virtual world, and unless Brian Ma (dunno if he is still there) and company are coding in the next seat over from God; with the keys on how physics were conceived (all in 9 months dev time), then I do not see how it will have ever have 'real physics' or to that expectation. They will get it as 'realistic' as they can in a virtual environment, and it can/will be constantly tweaked, but some of the expectations on a 'needs to have this to call itself a sim' checklist seem to be disingenuous without taking all the nuance into account.

                But what do I know.

Understood. However, I do feel that while "real ball physics" isn't necessarily a realistic or even possible expectation, the physics in the 2017 iteration left MUCH to be desired.

And that is fair feedback. They did mention they reworked it for this year, correct? Honestly asking because I could have sworn I seen it mentioned in a stream a couple of weeks back.

If so, we will have to wait and see the results, but so far, it does sound promising on that end if so.

I think what affects their sales the most year to year is server issues. I wonder how many people buy The Show to only play online modes..

The thread here concerns bat flips...so let's not digress into other topics.

Most are concerned that resources should be allocated elsewhere, with the underlying thought this takes considerable time to develop, code and implement. I think this would be fairly minimal...there is no coding with multiple variables such as where other players are (collusion), where the ball is and where it should end up, branching multiple animations, etc...I would think this would be fairly minimal in terms of implementation, like retro mode.

I would love to see more animations for IFs, OFs, etc...but I'm ok with this. We're older baseball fans and baseball needs younger viewers so this is just another carrot, some flare to attract the younger generation. Lets be real...my 10-year old self would love this. It's not realistic, the devs acknowledge that...it's purely for fun.
