Re: MLB The Show 18 GameStop Monday - RTTS
There is complaining every year. It is hard for me to say one year is better or worse than any another. This year certainly has a number of contentious issues, from Micro transactions to the removal of Online Franchise to skill caps on RTTS and DD created players.
This game is many things to many people and the devs have created a game that many people enjoy in a myriad of different ways, even within the same game mode.
The reason there is always so much contention around this time of the year is that we all love the game. We would not be so passionate if we did not love the game.
So while the mood can get testy at times, the devs should realize that it is a good thing. Nobody argues over the details of a game that they are apathetic about.

Constructive criticism is fine, and always has been. It goes WAY beyond that here. To the point that we've lost the level of dev interaction that we used to have here (across several sports games). And that's incredibly sad.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 18 GameStop Monday - RTTS
I don't think at this point believing there aren't any major changes to franchise is a conspiracy theory. I think there will be some little things like they've did for years now. I would much rather take this reasonable approach with my expectations than think "oh man there's gonna be so much to talk about they can't even fit it all into a Gamestop video, woooooo, stream gonna be hectic and blow my mind son." It's people that believe that that are probably gonna come back here and be really upset on Thursday.
I'd be happy if they fixed AI bullpen management, tuned trade and roster management logic to be more efficient, and updated the progression system some. To your average fan, these changes wouldn't be very sexy or worthy of a video, but I'd be super excited, way more than I would be if they totally reinvented franchise and started from scratch. I don't see how that's being negative or whatever, I would be happy with tuning and bug fixes and the same content we had last year. Just saying, there's probably not gonna be huge reveals about franchise forthcoming because that's not what history tells us is gonna happen.

The devs should realize that being personally attacked, having their work ethic/priorities questioned and being accused of underhanded tactics is a good thing? And you should get carte blanche to say all of the above because "it shows you care"?

As for priorities being questioned, well those are always going to be questioned in business, internally/externally, you name it. It's not just a customer thing, any company should constantly be reevaluating their focus and their agenda to ensure they're on the right course. Maybe customer feedback helps with that, and maybe it doesn't, but regardless in no way should receiving that feedback be seen as a negative thing by any business, it's free data, period. That's more free stuff than the customer gets from them. They can run their focus groups or crunch their numbers, but there's never such thing as too much information when it comes to improving the direction of your product. And if a developer isn't going to take on that feedback, then I don't see how them being here would be constructive anyways.
As for "underhanded tactics" every company on Earth is guilty to some extent of something someone somewhere can construe as "underhanded". That's a really subjective term, people have varying degrees of expectations when it comes to "ethics". You get called out for hitting an opposite field home run half the time on this game playing online as if you did something innately sinful, sports gaming fans in general are the last people I would listen to or take seriously when it comes to objective morality tbh lmao.
And while it's too bad that developers of various games don't hang out here much anymore, I'd be interested to hear if them being here actually made much of a difference to begin with. I mean EA had a pretty big presence here and the Madden franchise (IMO) is absolute garbage and clearly has taken the focus off of doing anything with franchise mode for years, since like last gen. Personally, I don't see the point in communicating with them at all, so I gave up on that release entirely. Them showing up and making posts is nice, but I doubt it really changes anything long term, in practice it sure doesn't seem like it. And The Show franchise mode has basically been the same since last gen as well, there's been a few minor changes, but nothing for the so called sim community to really salivate over.
I mean, OS guys are what, like longer term unpaid glorified beta testers for them right? We report bugs, we do research for them, we fill the forums up here with information year round for them to look at, so because it's not all peaches and rainbows as far as what people say then the bad apples can potentially spoil that resource? I don't agree with that, not in the slightest bit. Developers benefit from the tenacity and passion of the hardcore fans, in every genre, because we know so much about the practical application of using their product. That's not something to be taken lightly or scoffed at. I think that may be what the previous poster was saying.Comment

Criticism over a game does not equate to a personal attack. As much as some would like to believe it, less-than-100%-positive comments are not really indicative of a cesspool, or conspiracy theories, or an entitlement mentality, or something something about participation trophies. The posts in here that have come the closest to personal attacks are authored by the folks responding to the criticisms being made, not by the folks making the actual criticisms in the first place.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: MLB The Show 18 GameStop Monday - RTTS
If they'd give us this and something else like the ability to send cash in trades, that would largely shut most of us up. The problem is there are these relatively important things we want, and have wanted for years, that they maintain are so difficult to program in. Certain things might be very difficult to program, but the fact we can't play a realistic yearly schedule in 2018 on the PS4 is a pretty tough pill for many of us to swallow. If they have added rotating yearly schedules and we just need to wait until later this week to find out, then ok, criticism redacted.
I'd challenge you to find a single post in this thread that can reasonably be interpreted as a personal attack on a developer. I'm hard-pressed to see anything WAY beyond anything in here, or even anything almost over the line. It's been quite tame. Even when the one guy addressed the developer directly, that seemed pretty unremarkable and fine.

Dolenz didn't specify this thread when talking about people getting "testy" and neither did I.
Dipping from this thread before I get banned (yes, seriously), because I am flat out disgusted right now.Last edited by bcruise; 03-13-2018, 12:25 AM.Comment

That is not at all what I meant and I think most people realize it.
They should be happy that people are so passionate about the game that it creates these type of disagreements and strong opinions among it's fans. I never condone personal attacks, not to devs and not to other forum members.
If I was a developer I would prefer people be passionate about my game, even if it meant taking criticism about my decisions. The alternative is fan apathy towards the game and I would hope that no dev would ever want the people who play their game to be apathetic about it.Last edited by Dolenz; 03-13-2018, 09:20 AM.Comment

Don't forget. Last year's launch was pretty rough. People waited for patches to fix critical server issues. And, I saw a bunch of veteran users of this forum and people who love MLBTS shelf MLB 17 and play MLB 16 instead.
That's probably why people have that certain outlook you mention about MLB 18.
This game was the reason I bought a PS4 after being a dedicated fan on PS2 and PS3. Franchise mode has become entirely too stale for me, and that's my big selling point with every sports game.
Gameplay is still top of the class, despite all the issues last year that were eventually fixed. I will not be purchasing 18 unless I see some significant improvements to franchise mode.Comment

For what it's worth SDS just keep doing what you guys do. I'm still having a ball with 17, and can't wait for 18 to drop. Things will never be perfect, but personally I appreciate the effort, and support you guys give this title very much.Comment
