Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread

The position change prob had nothing to do with the trade . ive simmed dozens of rtts saves and mostly find that i am traded more times then not if im drafted by a contender . its usually me and someone else for an established mlb guy.

On the flip side im almost never traded by a non contender although one or two teams didnt offer me arb after my simmed player had a good season

Last night I went to go play this All Star game that my AAA pitcher was supposedly invited to. I guess he rode the bench all game, because nothing happened. I just simmed over the calendar date. Then before I could do anything I was called into the AAA manager's office where he informed me I was going to the Show. After this I am in Clint Hurdle's office, manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates where he once again asked me to swap to being a late game reliever. I of course rejected it, and the next thing you know I was being traded to the Padres. The Padres are a last place team, but at least with them, they were willing to let me be one of their starters. So there you have it, I saved the file and I am now in the Show. Oh and this character a 72 OVR was developed in MLB 17 with carefully targeted training points. He only ever played one game in MLB 18. I am tempted to go back to MLB 17 and see if he gets promoted and traded there as well.

Also, I went back to replay the meeting with Clint Hurdle, but this time I accepted the position swap. However it did not matter. They still traded me to the Padres and I ended up deleting that file. I see no point in being a starter and a reliever for the Padres with two different RTTS save files.

So where does this leave me with my other AA characters? Well I highly suspect they too will be traded down the road and any idea I had of doing a Shohei Ohtani RTTS thing likely won't happen beyond AA as I can't see the 2B and pitcher getting traded to the same teams. I will continue to slog away with both of them in AA doing full games. For them it's always been about the journey not the destination. But I also suspect at some point I may be abandoning the AA pitcher. But you never know. Perhaps in time I will abandon the Padres pitcher instead if I like how this AA pitcher develops over time better.
Huh, interesting. I never got asked to move again after the initial trial and move back from SP-closer-back to SP. They kept me a SP moved me up to AAA at around the all-star break and then during spring training and the next season I was labeled a SP but did long relief for the Mets(because most of their SP's are rated in the 80s or increased to the 80s over the 2 years. Now I'm finally a starter)

Was your player started in MLB 17 or 18? Mine was started in MLB 17 and it was only a few days ago that I decided to bring this player into MLB 18 and it was then when the game began asking me to swap positions again for the 2nd time. Also, at some point soon I'll revisit MLB 17 to see if the position swap request, the promotion and/or a trade happens after the MLB 17 All Star break. My MLB 17 save file is only a week away from the break as I only played the one AAA game in MLB 18 with this pitcher.

Did I cheat with this guy? Sort of I guess. I used MLB 17s training points to give him specific pitching skills that would adhere to the "Control Freak" archetype and I also quick sold a bunch of DD player cards in MLB 17 (I am not a DD player so I really only had Silvers and a handful of Golds to sell which helped but wasn't that much) and used the stubs from the DD quick sells to give him a 5th pitch type, ensure all his hitting skills were at the 35 max CAPs of the "Control Freak" archetype and used what was left of the stubs to improve his fielding skills. Other than that all his pitching skills (minus the 5th pitch type) were developed from MLB 17s training points.

With all that said though, I plan on using him in MLB 18 at the HoF pitching level and I'll start hitting at the All Star level and adjust if need be. He will have to earn his stay in the majors. I am not the type of gamer who takes joy in dominating and winning every game. I definitely look forward to being challenged and at least for the short term future I am not expecting to get a lot of run support from my last place Padres teammates. But Petco Park is a cool park and I welcome the opportunity to be a Padres starter. That's all I really wanted, to be a starter on an NL team so that I can pitch and hit. Of course if he gets traded to an AL team I will be hosed. LOL

Edited to add: oh and my accelerated AA player is back playing SS, however I am not sure how this happened outside of myself not playing attention to the save file, but my main 2B AA player is no longer 2B. The last interaction I had with management when they asked me to change to 3B was that I said to them "I guess we are at an impasse". But when I went to play the game last night there I was at 3B. I even freaked out for a sec as I thought I might have mistakenly saved over the 2B file with the accelerated player who was playing 3B. But upon closer inspection I realized the game swapped me to 3B anyways. LOL ... I was lucky, I had to field the ball five times in the game. One was a bunt attempt that I got to in time. Another was an easy fly ball and the other three times the ball was hit right at me. But I refuse to play with the defensive slow motion turned on. To me it is an immersion killer for full game play. With that said, there is a reason why 3B is called the hot corner and there will be times when I simply won't be able to handle things at full speed. I sure hope management realizes this mistake before I cost them a number of games. I know I could always sim through this period where I am at 3B, but I don't want to.

My Plain Filthy pitcher started in 18. All the rest started in 17 or earlier but have at least a year in before transferring so I don't know anything about transferring while still in the first year.

I wouldn't really call it cheating I think it's a bit unfair that you can't start with at least 4 pitches as a SP especially when you can't add new pitches until you hit the majors. I used to sell the DD cards I got for stubs to upgrade my players too because I also don't play DD.

LOL that's crazy that you got moved anyway. To each their own on the not using slow down for a split second turned on, I watch the video where they talked about why and it makes sense and there are definitely balls that you should be able to get to but can't with it turned off, but maybe that helps you get moved back where you want to be.

This is definitely something that needs to be addressed (probably next year as it might be too much of a code change to patch). I can't imagine trying to progress up the ladder only having three pitches in your toolbox and is one of the reasons why both of my pitchers started in MLB 17. My 4SFB is my work horse and the Changeup and Sinker complement the 4SFB. But it's nice to have the Slider to go for strike outs and while my Knuckle Curve is the least used pitch, it's nice knowing it's there. I can't imagine playing anything above AA and only have three pitch types. Even in AA unless you are new you should be given the opportunity to add a 4th.

It's just an immersion killer for full games. It would drive me nuts if every ball hit in the game regardless of whether it is hit my way or hit to a teammate is slowed down. Of course I doubt management would move me back even if I cost the team some games. Everything is scripted. We know I am here for basically the next 14 or 15 games. If it becomes a problem I will either play these games as accelerated games with slow mo turned on, or just sim them.

Where your from I believe does matter where your picked. I created myself 5x always a ballhawk CF and from Ohio, and all times 24th, 27th, 23rd, 25th and another 27th D Pot, and everytime I have gone to the White Sox. That's default rosters, Monkeyman's and OSFM. The last Ballhawk CF I made, I made from the EAST (Florida) I got drafted 25th round to the Dodgers. Just missed the Indians lol. Well this is the one I will stick with and see where it takes me on the road to the MLB.

I am wondering if anyone else have encountered the problem with not getting a plate discipline cap increase during training? I am in 2020 and I have maxed out at the initial cap but my max cap is another 20 points away.

If you see it and ... after it, select that. after 2 or three times selecting it, will go up a full number and you can pick it.

Any one using default or OSFM rosters and see the cpu NOT make multiple trades with the same players? This alone will make me not want to play rtts.

I considered starting my pitcher in 17 but I like using OSFM rosters for RTTS too and I can't use this years for it, at least when I started it, but I agree hopefully that's a change for at least next year.

Do you watch whole games? I only watch the plays that come to me.

I play the entire game meaning I am in the field, in the dugout, at the plate or on base for every pitch of the game (not counting of course the problem where we cannot access the "O-Watch Game" game button until after our first appearance of the game). I do this for my main player, but not what I am calling the accelerated one. This accelerated player only plays his plate, base running and fielding appearances and I have been playing on average five quick games before every full game. It's kind of like a player for BP, but in actual game scenarios.

BTW my AA pitcher was just forced into being a CP. I kept telling my advisor that I didn't like it, but the game just would not take no for an answer. I am now the closer for the next couple of weeks which kind of messes with my RTTS Shohei Ohtani thing I had going. Oh well, don't mess with the man I guess. I see a trade in his future. LOL

There's a way to go to the Indians and be able to be "more" than a BallHawk CF. It happenned to me by accident but works just fine!

Created my player as an international region Wizard Shortstop and got drafed by Cleveland. Played 30 games un AA and then I was switched to CF. I picked Solid Option as my new Archetype so now, I have the speed and Fielding abilities of the BallHawk/Wizard + the Arm Strengh and Contact abilities of the Solid Option... Future is looking good!!!

I found out that Wizard SS are often mooved to OF and are the best way to become great outfielder. Same as the best odds of ending as a great SS is to start as a 2B "Mr. Reliable".

Great info! Thank you. I will have to try that just to see if the same happens. Mind me asking what roster you are using? I'll have to try it for fun. My CF is modeled after Kenny Lofton.

As for the Where we are from thing, I play "International Region" and it depends on the Position/Achetype combination I pick.

I've been picked to almost every team since I started. Teams are drafting based on their needs and then switch you to another "weak" position on their roster. It make sense that the same 3-4 teams will draft you if you are a precise type of player.

From there you have 2 options :
                              1) Change Archetype/Position to address your favorite team needs
                              2) Edit Roster to create a hole at your 2 favorite positions with your team. Example : Want to be the next RedSox CF or 2B? Move BradleyJR to LF (He'll still play CF in MLB since is 2nd position is OF) and create a Wizard 2B. Since Pedrioa is getting Old, R-Sox will draft you at 2B and since there's a hole at CF they will have you play there by May 7th in AA! Then once Pedroia retires and you are in your 3rd season in MLB you will have the opportunity to request to be mooved back at 2B or stay in CF.

                              Skectchy but it works...
