Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread
I made a pitcher and got drafted by the Marlins. A blessing in disguise since I shot up through the minors and got called up to MLB in late july. I had a pretty good second half of the season and by the end my overall was 69. Fourth among starting pitchers on the Marlins.
Here's the thing though, ever since the next season started I've been stuck as a long reliever. Despite my overall being fourth on the team they've stuck one guy with a lower overall (but with A potential and "rising superstar") and a reliever with a lower overall in the rotation.
Since I'm only pitching one or two innings at a time I have a <1 ERA and an adjusted overall of 82, second highest among pitchers on the club. I waited for the call from my agent but only got the option to request being moved to reliever or request a trade.
Has anyone else encountered this? Do I just wait it out?Comment

Your Marlins story is a little different than my Pirates/Padres story. But they are also similar in that both you and I got called up to the Show rather early in our respective careers. In your case with the Marlins you were able to pitch as a starter during your rookie year but in year two you now find yourself in the bullpen. Your story sounds like it could happen in the real world. But my story where the Pirates wanted me to be their MLB closer just does not make sense. Perhaps if I threw 100+ mph fastballs it would make sense. But who would make an 18 year old kid who throws 94 mph and is still developing their control as the closer of a MLB team? It's bunk.
I can't speak for you, perhaps I am in the extreme minority here in that I am someone who is okay with staying in AAA developing my skills as that is what I would have liked to have done with my RTTS pitcher while he was still with the Pirates. But since they traded me to the Padres, I have been given the opportunity to continue to develop as a starter. It's just that I am developing on a last place team. So for you I guess you just need to wait for your agent to contact you when he does request a trade if you are still in the Marlins bullpen. There may be another last place team (perhaps the Padres LOL) who would be willing to have you as one of their starters. Or perhaps by the time your agent contacts you your skills will develop further where you can land on a good team. I know in the real world, making it to the top levels of any pro sport can be really hard and more often than not results in failure (if anyone has seen Matt Antonelli's YouTube video series, he offers some really cool perspective on his rise and fall from trying to make it as a pro baseball player). But this is a game. It's not the real world. There should be more options that what we are seeing. RTTS has the potential to be an awesome mode. But there is something that is just not right with it, at least for those trying to make it as starting pitchers.Last edited by My993C2; 04-16-2018, 10:16 AM.Comment

Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread
When fielding post-pitch in RTTS, Is there a way to move your player laterally while keeping them faced forward; a bounding side-to-side type movement?
Playing outfield, can be difficult to field hard-hit dropping line drives because player movement sometimes causes me to overrun the ball’s trajectory.
Also would like some sort of indicator for balls bounced off the wall. Fielding those can be awkward.

Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread
So in my RttS last night, in which I am a RF for the Blue Jays AA team, I went to start my next series against Harrisburg. This is in July of 2018 in game.
I have been hitting well in AA, with an average around .290, 15 or so HRs and am leading the league in RBIs. I'm still only 61 overall, so I have no plans of advancing past the minors anytime soon.
So as I go to the next game, I get a cutscene where the manager calls me into his office. He starts out by saying that the folks in the front office have taken note of my play and want to call me up. I respond with something about hoping to do well in AAA and thank the coach for his help.
He then says, "I don't think you understand. They aren't calling you up to AAA, they want you up in MLB!"
So I made the jump right from AA to The Show, with my first game being right after the All Star Break against Baltimore.
With all the talk about how RttS was more of a grind this year, and it would be a while before we'd make it to the majors, I was surprised to go straight from AA to the Bigs without any time in AAA.Orbis Non SuficitComment

And this is why, a mode that was so enjoyable to play, is now not worth the time to know something so frustrating like this could happen..Comment

I have started all the games in the first series against the Orioles, so hopefully it's not that situation.
I should probably look to see if I'm in as an injury replacement or something like that, too.Orbis Non SuficitComment

This isn't the real world, it's a game and we should be given more options on how we want to play the game regarding our player development and our progression. There should be a "I would like to stay in the minors or a I would like to develop in AAA before going to the Show" option.Comment

Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread
To me this is a problem. Sure if some people want to make it to the show ASAP this is good. But what about those who want to develop their skills in the minors before being called up to ensure a successful long term career at the positions we would like to play. When my pitcher got called up the other day, I had no choice in the matter, I was going up no matter what. I couldn't even go back to an older save file and try and alter it (plus the exact same thing happened in MLB 17 as it did in 18).

I agree. I didn't have any of these issues as I imported a saved player from the 2017 showcase that blazed through the minors in 3 months with no issues, but I understand and feel the pain that many people I know have complained about. I've already started thinking about next year's game....and my fear is I may not buy it. I have NO desire to grind out 300 games trying to reach the majors. I don't have time for that with work and family. I'd have to import a player from 17 again which would put me 2 years behind current.
With all that said.... guess I'll get on soapbox. I love the game personally, but I'm also playing it this year under my terms. I have no idea who would possibly think in a world where attention span grows shorter and shorter and people are busier and busier that it would be a good idea to force the "experience" on the user. You already had options in place for both diehards and players just wanting to get to the show ASAP. I'm neither for or against using stubs to buy training points....but why remove it as an option? The guy who didn't have time or patience could pony up the extra dollars and accelerate the growth of his player. The guys that LIKES to grind....had the option to start from scratch and grind it out. You didn't take it out of Diamond Dynasty where it's all angled at buying stubs so why on earth do you remove it from RTTS??
Why remove the option to go back to college and CHOOSE your team. Same point made here.... the guy that wanted it to be random could take the random draft selection. The guy that wanted to play for his favorite team could do that too. Why remove the options? I simmed about a 100 drafts so I could finally have a save where I could play with my favorite team.
I've experienced across multiple saves the switch positions storyline but have successfully manipulated it back to my position or in a position I wanted to play. It's fine to put that in there....but give a guy an OPTION to go back to his position. If you're looking for the experience...roll with the position switch but if not you have a 100% lock guranteed way to go back to your position. Have some friends who started from scratch and had miserable experiences. Pinch hitting for 3 years, stuck in DH role, etc. The whole thing with playing time and roles has way to much to do with overall rating and not your actual PERFORMANCE in the minors/majors.
You keep hearing about all these new things which are true....but STOP removing options and control. Other than better ball physics, visuals, etc....I didn't see the need to make such drastic changes to start with.Comment

Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread
This is the worst game they have made. Cant pick my team in RTTS. Cant have any control over my players development. For some reason i am unable to train certain skills where im no where near the cap. I cant be a power hitter with no speed? Not all power hitters are fat. They actually have taken away the realism of the game. Also they still have the worst music ever for walkup or intro. They have ruined the arguably most played mode in the game. 2k would never have done this to us.Comment

On the other hand, a bunch of 18-19-20 years old shouldn't jump from 22ish round pick, to AA to MLB in 3 months!!! Even first round talent shouldn't be promoted that quickly!!!
I have done a quick search and found out that in 2011, the average age of a MLB Rookie was 24.5 yrs old. Last year the All Rookie team, Benentendi, Judge, Happ, Bellinger, Devers, etc... were between 21-23 years old... Which means the best need 3-4 years in minor ball to graduate to the MLB... If they need it, we should at least have 2 or 3 years riding buses before being called up!
RTTS being a game, I doubt that the casual gamers would grind 300 games before being called up... I would love to fo both, 1 player that goes up after 1 season for "Quick fun & play with current stars" and another "Full Simulation" where I would progress slowly, be looked at 4-5 different position and promoted at 21-22 yrs old. Unfortunately ﹰI don't think SSD will spend time/money on an option that only a few of us would enjoy...Comment
