Tried that for over 2 hours and it repeated options every time like a broken record. Something is definitely wrong with this game. Having soft caps was a horrible idea, I can understand having max caps but locking you from increasing attributes until an RNG system tells you you can is really broken. I mean half of the training options are redundant and train the same attributes as others, just under a different name.

Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread
I was wondering if anyone is having trouble turning double playsw their middle infielders in rtts. I'm a ss and i thought it was my fielder rating at first but now i have that at 77 and there's always a hitch before he throws to first. Almost like I'm not preloading the throw but i always preload my throws. Anyone else having this problemWatch me at twitch.tv/dmanchiComment

Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread
Well I am done with the Closer, it is my 3rd year in MLB and I have invested a fair few hours in this guy but at the end of the season and the contract comes up it is for a AAA Closer and 840K, I had just won my second Cy Young award and the announcers call me a superstar Mr fix it so I shrug and go through Spring Training and start normal season and once more I am starting in the 4th or 6th and some low rating guy is Closer.
I think this guy is bugged or something, either way this is not what I wanted and it is not fun, something this was supposed to be.
I am going to make a SP but am very angry at the hours I sunk into this bugged guy.
Come time when everyone was being traded I get a notification I had been traded to the Marlins as part of a package, thought aint no way that is going to fly so reloaded a earlier save and it went past it to the end of the season where I was put up to AAA for the A's still and have been kept in the Closer position
I am having fun once more, will see what happens when I make it up to the Show but should hopefully have the full season in AAA as I am a 69 and need to have time to develop but it is enjoyable againComment

Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread
Ever the optimist I decided to make a new Closer, got picked up by the A's and started as a Closer for them and stayed that way until the compulsory swap when I fought it all they way until it is forced on you so simmed my way through until I went back as a Closer and said in the interview how happy I was to swap back.
If I am not mistaken my time at 3B via the mandatory position change for my 2B middle infielder will be coming to an end soon (I believe I have three more games at the hot corner). I have played every game, I did not sim any and ... knock on wood ... I have not cost the team any games by mistakes made at 3B. I totally respect the position in the real world. Some of the best fielders in the game play 3B. But in this game, it's just not for me. Not only is there not a lot of action at 3B compared to the other middle infielders (meaning my fielding progression has slowed down), but unless the ball is hit right at me, I really can't make the plays. I tried the slow'mo Matrix fielding, but it is not for me. It is an immersion killer when you play full length games.
Oh and I could also lower the difficulty if I wanted to. But I don't want to. I still want to challenge myself with this pitcher because over time his skills should improve. He just needs to find better control with his pitches which is weird because his archetype is a control freak. But the current cap on his primary pitch the 4SFB is maxed out and trust me I have refreshed my training sessions many times looking for a cap increase for this pitch, but have yet to see it. I am totally onboard for max caps, but the current caps scheme seems a tad messed up for certain skill types.Comment

I sure hope that the mandatory position change for a Closer is not to become a starter. That would be really messed up. I could see them making a Closer a middle relief or setup guy in the bullpen. But anything other than that is nuts.

My RTTS Padres starting pitcher was likely promoted too fast (promoted to the MLB by the Pirates to be their closer, but I rejected the role and was traded to the Padres). I don't want him demoted ... yet ... but it wouldn't be the end of the world if he was sent back down to AAA to develop his skills. He had no problems striking out the opposition in AA and AAA. But now that he is in the MLB, strike outs are a lot harder to come by and I have had to adapt to a "pitch to contact" strategy in my MLB games. His ERA isn't too bad at 3.44, but he gives up far too many hits and there is often a steady stream of base runners in many of the innings he pitches. I still have the save file of him as the Pirates closer in MLB 17 and have not ruled out the idea of porting this save file over to MLB 18. That will all depend on time. But the option still exists. I like being a starter because I want to hit. But this Padres pitcher has had to endure some very stressful innings in his short MLB career.

Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread
You likely have to max your control caps for your second and third pitch (and 4th and 5th) I've noticed with my plain filthy some will disappear until you up the others so you can't max 1 and have all really poor other pitches

Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread
As far as catchers, I tried it once. Too many passed balls. But that might have been me, and my misunderstand of how to catch the pitches and/or perhaps I had not setup the game properly. Don't know. It was the first night I tried RTTS and I have not tried being a catcher since.Comment

Depends on what type of settings you play under and what you're looking for from it.Comment

Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread
I was just presented with the opportunity to increase my 4SFB control current cap and I took advantage of it. Problem is, it was my AA pitcher who did the training and his current control cap for the 4SFB pitch is not maxed out yet. It's my MLB Padres pitcher who needs the current cap increased. D'OhComment

Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread
I just don't get it. I am still in favor of the archetypes and max caps SDS has come up with. But the current caps are poorly thought out or the communication on how and when they are managed is non-existent.Comment

Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread
Still havent gottn the game, i was wondering, i really like Reggie Jacksons no doubt animation, but i really dislike his stance.
1. Does the batting stance creator let you keep the no doubt animation of the stance your chose to base on?
2. Does the batting stance creator let you make a totally different stance or can you only change every part a tiny bit?
Cheers.Comment

Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread
On a different front, for a split second in a game last night that my AA RTTS 2B was playing, it looked like he was going to hit for the Cycle. He had 3/4 of the Cycle with only the Triple left and in the top of the 9th he appeared to make good contact with a ball hit into the gap in the outfield between CF and RF. Unfortunately this only last for a second or two, as the ball was not hit hard enough and the RF was able to get to it as it landed for his 2nd single of the game in a 4 for 4 outing. Oh well. I am sure there is a legion of other players out there with similar stories about hitting for 3/4 of the Cycle.Comment
