I HIGHLY recommend doing this in July...as thats when the nonsense really starts. Cool thing is as long as you manage it your team can make some pretty good deals. I'm rolling with the Braves in the 2019 season and below is our team. Finished with 2nd or 3rd best record in NL and I start playoffs when I go home tonight.

SP: Michael Pineda, Jose Quintana, Folty, Jose Berrios, S. Newcomb
    CP: Shawn Kelly
RP: Can't remember all of relievers

    Ozzie Albeis
    D. Swanson
    F. Freeman
    B. Tate (My created player)
    M. Sano
    R. Acuna
    S. Schebler
    E. Gattis/R. Brantley
    Pitcher of day

Bench: K. Scwharber, D. Santana, Lane Adams, etc

Oh yeah, I use the same method for trade deadline/offseason dates too.

On that page is my post about my imported Angels RTTS where we have like 6 silver sluggers lol, all through the save and load method

I do it pretty indepth. Trade deadline of course I sim alot, but one date I always re-do for optimal results is the last day of the season advancing to the offseason

Not sure if you have noticed, but thats when progression/declining happens, and it seems random. I always try and get the best progression before moving on. Like Ozzie Albies on the save I kept, progressed 10 entire contact vs lefties points, where as on others it wasnt near as much. I tested another one for the future offseason as I was curious, and Machado progresses anywhere from a 96-99

After the world series no matter what, when it asks you to advance to offseason. Once you do that, progession/declines happen. Just keep reloading and looking at the stats of players and you'll notice differences

Unless you wanna increase your steal rating etc, is there any point of having baserunning on with the new system? Seems waste of time.

Made a third Closer with a Cutter as primary and 4SFB and Screwball but use the Cutter 98% of the time. Love the cutter, have blown up 4 bats so far, want a chair when I retire LOL

Went to the Pirates and at the end of my first season I went from AA straight to MLB. Got a cool scene where I was welcomed and I got to say "Am I here as a Closer?" and the boss said yeah that is what we see for you in the future and then I got to say "I want to be the Closer" and he said work hard and that is their plan.

Stuck doing middle relief at the moment because I am so low overall but I thought it was good that at least the game allowed me to state what I wanted this time.

Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread

Say goodbye to AA ball. My RTTS 2B character and his alternate universe but same self starting pitcher character were both promoted yesterday after the AA All Star game.

The 2B guy got the promotion I wanted. He was sent to the Braves AAA Gwinnett Stripers squad and I am happy about this because I can now adapt to the slightly higher skilled AAA pitchers and continue to use the rest of the season to develop his offensive and defensive skills to ensure that when it is time to be promoted to the MLB, he should be in a decent position to take down the existing starter and not have to worry about riding the bench for a season or two. There are no guarantees of course, but I will ensure he has superior defensive fielding skills over the existing starter.

However I really do think there is a flaw in this game when it comes to starting pitching and how quickly they appear to be fast tracked. Yes I dominated the AA batters I faced. I stuck out many, walked few and was always able to keep my ERA just above 2.00 in AA ball without too much effort pitching on All Star difficulty (meaning I was actually pitching on Veteran). But AA hitters are not at the same level AAA hitters are at, and are in no way to ever be confused with the MLB talent. This RTTS starting pitcher has just came off of a successful MLB debut where he pitched 6 complete innings giving up 2 runs on 6 hits and walked 1. He even left the ball game with a 4-2 lead with a chance to win his first MLB game. Unfortunately he didn't get the win, as the opposition came back to tie the game in the top of the 9th before losing the game in extra innings. So his debut was a no decision. However what is missing in all of this is, how many MLB batters did he strike out? Zero, none, not one. There were numerous times when he had a 2 strike count and trust me, not once did I decide to just throw it in the strike zone. Virtually every time I had 2 strikes, I tried to throw it to a corner and/or even tried to throw it out of the zone hoping one of the MLB batters would go fishing for it. But none did. Most of the time when they made contact luckily for me my fielders were able to handle it. But there were other times where the opponent smacked it for a hit. Just because my pitcher was able to strike out many in AA does not mean he can strike out many in the Show with his current skills. My 2nd year Padres MLB starter also has trouble striking out MLB talent. He's definitely a pitch to contact sort of pitcher.

Anyway with all due respect to the Padres, I had fun playing with the Braves in my MLB debut as the Braves will give me more run support and there was a different vibe in the stadium which was 85% full versus most Padres games which attract about 35% crowds and I am sure 1 to 2 virtual playing years from now when this Braves pitcher's skills improve there will be many more fun games to play. But honestly I am fearful that the MLB batters are really going to punish him in the weeks and months to come. So while it is cool to be playing games in full MLB stadiums, my RTTS pitcher really should be in AAA right now continuing his development like my 2B player has been given. Perhaps if I am lucky (and if I don't care about career stats), my RTTS pitcher will get hammered in the coming games where the organization decides they fast tracked him too fast and send him down to AAA where he belongs at this stage of his young career.

Looks like I have a legit reason to wear a cheek guard.

My second in-game injury already. Decided not to go on the 10 day DL for this one, as I already spent 60 days on the DL for a "inflammed hip" that occurred while sliding home and getting tagged.

I’m gonna be honest with you, the more I play this game, the more I fall out of love with it, mainly due to the logic, lag, commentary, and nonsensical animations.

I play SS in my main RTTS and, on most double play balls hit to 1st, the 1B will field it, step on the bag, and not even attempt a throw to 2nd. Out-of-game logic also needs some retuning; random benching, pretty out-there roster moves (I saw Aaron Judge be traded for Jon Gray) and other instances.

The commentary is...bleh. Nothing against Mark DeRozan, but I just don’t like him as a commentator. There’s a lot of dead air in terms of commentary and it becomes repetitive after a while. I also really, really don’t like the upgrade system; so you’re telling me that if I want to work on plate discipline, I have to wait until it’s available? No thanks.

Is 18’s RTTS a good addition? Yeah, absolutely. But it’s not perfect and, honestly, the amount of errors/bugs is pushing me farther away from it

I think you should try taking apart and cleaning your PS4 or something. I don't have any issues with lag.

And commentary...I never understand why people complain about this tbh. The more you play a game the more stale the commentary will be. It's the least important thing in the game ever because they're never going to be able to make it like a real broadcast. There's not a single sports game that has "good" commentary, and there never will be. Because no matter what, you are always going to hear repeat lines the more you play the game. Just turn the commentary volume all the way down. Heck, you might even feel more "immersed" in the game because as a player you wouldn't be hearing a TV broadcast anyway.

The others are legitimate criticisms. I usually tick my trade slider down one notch to cut down on some of that trade stuff

I dont understand the lag thing either.

I have my sound set to on the field which plays no commentary. So I made custom mimic "on the field" and added a low volume so I could just hear the announcers. To be honest though, I get so immersed that I rarely hear them and it doesnt make it so stale.

The trade thing, I keep the slider on 4 and it seems to work out ok there. I do have the Rockies trading a CF to the White Sox for a 1B and then trading back to the Rockies the same 1B man for the same CF. Same trade happens every 2 to 5 days. Back and forth, back and forth. Ive learned to ignore it.

Came even closer to "Hitting for the Cycle" last night.

                              1) In the 1st inning I got the HR checked off.
                              2) In the 3rd inning I added the Triple.
                              3) In the 6th inning I got my Double.
                              4) In the 8th inning, I choked trying too hard to get the Single.

Oh well ... there's always tomorrow.

The few times I have gotten close, I am always a triple short. Power corner speed of 20. Its going to be a hard one to pull off.
