Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread

So I've been trying to give this game a second chance and have fun with it but it keeps fighting at every opportunity. Seems like there is a bug that makes every training session give you the same options EVERY TIME, either that or the devs failed to program the system that's so supposed to randomize the options (which I won't rule out considering we're talking about SDS here). My plate discipline has been stuck at 55 for three seasons because it never lets me increase it (I swear it would be 99 by now if it weren't for these stupid soft caps they have). I've pretty much memorized the 9 options I'm actually allowed to train, half of which are just repeats or combinations of attributes that appear multiple times. Really starting to wonder if this game was even released in a finished state. Going to look really odd and immersion-breaking when my Contact, Vision, and Fielding are 99 and everything else is stuck at 55 and lower because I'm apparently banned from training anything else.

Well I am done with the Closer, it is my 3rd year in MLB and I have invested a fair few hours in this guy but at the end of the season and the contract comes up it is for a AAA Closer and 840K, I had just won my second Cy Young award and the announcers call me a superstar Mr fix it so I shrug and go through Spring Training and start normal season and once more I am starting in the 4th or 6th and some low rating guy is Closer.
I think this guy is bugged or something, either way this is not what I wanted and it is not fun, something this was supposed to be.
I am going to make a SP but am very angry at the hours I sunk into this bugged guy.

I mean I know the cap systems not great, but we have manual save for a reason people. If you don’t get the cap training you need, then back out, reload the save and get options for whatever cap increase you need. I’ve had zero problems of an attribute getting stuck at a cap because all I do is reload to get the one I want. I’d rather take the short time to do that, then act like everything is permanent and come on here saying I’m gonna stop playing

This. I use the manual save feature for cap reasons as well as for preventing bogus trades from ruining a team/season. I keep a save file that I save over after every series....so I never have to go back more than a series to right anything that is astray.

Figured I'd share the below..... 2 outs bottom of the 9th.... This saved the game. You can see Ender's reaction and it's pretty cool. Fellow Braves fans should love it. 2nd is a Robbed HR of Matt Weiters. My player absolutely skyed up there to get that one. I love to take anything away from the Nationals that I can.

Welcome to the broken logic to this game mode. There is a lot of frustrating occurrences in this years mode. From guys being 19 year old pinch hitters and continue to be pinch hitters for seasons to come. Or in my case I am a 19 year old Long Relief Pitcher in the bigs and cant get on the field enough to up my attributes. The logic and player management/progression is ABSOLUTELY KILLING THIS GAME.

Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread

So I have been wondering something here. With the advent of the new skills in game performance progression/regression scheme, are the skills of all the CPU players we encounter in the minor leagues also improving over time and in the future could we see the same guys in the Show? I ask this because for one of my AA teammates, he was really struggling at the plate for the first five or six weeks of the season. But lately he appears to be coming out of his slump which leads me to think that perhaps his skills are improving over time. There was another ex-teammate who a few weeks ago was traded away to another team and he too was struggling at the plate. But I just happen to be in the 4th of 5 games against his new team and not only is he hitting better, but his fielding also appears to be better (he robbed me of a hit last night as well as robbed another one of my present teammates with two great catches in LF). On top of that I had another teammate in the organization who plays SS and he was doing very well at the plate. However ever since my recent mandatory 2B to 3B position swap (which should last about one more week), this guy is no longer in my AA games and upon closer inspection I see they promoted him to the AAA team.

Now I am making these observations because I am playing full games with this RTTS infielder of mine and not only do I observe how my present teammates play, but I also observe the opposition. Yes it is slow going. We are only 39 games into the 140+ game season still one month away from the All Star break when many promotions appear to happen and I am wondering if I will be seeing my former SS teammate at the MLB level sometime down the road. I doubt we will be reunited on the AAA squad because for whatever reason it appears that SDS have taken half of the "Road" in the "Road to the Show" out of the equation for us human gamers as it appears that most of us get promoted directly from AA into the Show and completely skip AAA. So if/when I do see these present minor league players again, I am assuming their skills should also have improved.

Has this always been in the game? I am new to this mode.

Finally, I am seeing something with this virtual Braves organization that my RTTS infielder is presently playing for that I do NOT like. The Braves have demoted 3B Ryan Schimpf to AAA and taken him off of the 40-man roster and in his place they have made some rookie with an OVR of only 56 as their MLB 3B starter. Since the Braves recently demanded that I convert from a 2B to a 3B, I now can see that after the All Star break the game will promote me into the Show skipping over AAA and they will insist on another but this time permanent position swap. I am playing all the games right now at 3B because I am not the sort of person who wants to sim my results. But this is bunk. I can't remember what Schimpf's exact OVR is, but he is somewhere in the mid to low 70s, he is better than me as I am only a 70 right now and Schimpf is way better than this rookie. Yes this is the scripted Road to the Show destiny that SDS has planned for me. Problem is I do NOT like playing 3B. Why is SDS forcing me to play a position I do NOT want to play. I will reject the 2nd position swap and I know I will be to be traded to some other team where I will ride the bench for several years not being allowed to progressive with my defensive skills? This is remarkably similar to what happened to my RTTS pitcher character who was promoted to the Show, the game demanded that I be a CP, I rejected the position swap and was traded. Luckily for my pitcher I was traded to a team that lets me pitch as one of their starters. But it's still messed up. Why is SDS insisting we play positions we do not want to play and why are most of us, if not all of us all skipping over AAA? This is not the real world, it is a damn game. Plus in the real world most players don't skip over AAA and those that do are typically not mid to late round draft picks. Those that do skip AAA are typically high draft picks.

RTTS has so much potential, but there is also something really really wrong with it.

Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread

Thought I'd share how the whole position swap has played out for me and the options that I chose. I've never been permanently moved. Maybe because of player rating....maybe not. My responses are below for 1B

                  You're asked to play 1B

                  1. A 1B?

                  After next spill from coach.....

                  2. "I've never played 1b"

After the have fun with it spill....

                  3. I'll try.

Most of the time at this point, after about 2 or 3 weeks playing position, I'm moved back to my position. On the times where I was not.... when they talk to you about moving permanently insist on playing your position. Your agent will call you and tell you why they want you to play it and who is in front of you. You have an option to tell him that you will just have to be/get better than the person playing the position now. I always choose that option.

Are you still in the minors? or are you a MLB player playing the position you want to play? If you are still in the minors don't assume you won't be asked again for another position swap. I just have to look at what SDS has done to 3B Ryan Schimpf demoting him to AAA, taking him off of the 40-man roster and putting a rookie with an OVR of 56 in his place and their demand that I now become a 3B player. It happened to my RTTS pitcher and the pattern is repeating for my infielder.

i have had at least 20 rtts saves, testing this and that, played some and just straight simmed some and none have ever forced me to change. they ask, i say no and they bench me for a week or so but never made me. This is for position players, i never make pitcher saves

For me if I wanted to stay with the Pirates (the team that drafted me), their only plans were for me was to be their closer for my rookie year at the MLB level and at least for the start of my 2nd year to continue to be their closer. Perhaps at some point during this 2nd year, I might have gotten my wish to be put back as a starter, but I never bothered to find out as I did not want to waste time playing the game to find out if they would or would not change me back. It was bad enough that I played all the games as their closer in my rookie 2017 year only to be told by my agent prior to the start of 2018 to tough it out.

But luckily for me, another scenario was available for when I rejected the 2nd position swap request and that was that the Pirates traded me to the Padres (this exact trade happens at the exact same time in MLB 17 as well as MLB 18, so it was clearly scripted into the game). So yeah I do get to play the position I want to play. I get to be a starting pitcher and I do go get to hit in the game (a huge reason why I wanted to be a starter). Only problem is, is I am doing this all on a last place team. I am however optimistic that the 2018 Padres will be a better team than they were in my 2017 rookie season when they only managed to win 53 games.

I think that's a pretty decent workaround. It works even better for Starting Pitchers because it's easy to keep track of where your training session is. (You maybe be able to do that with other position but I haven't really played my imports yet)

I'm not experiencing the issues you are of having forced position changes. Maybe it was just a luck of the draw on the teams you've been on? Idk. I also didn't skip AAA. (I played about half a season there and made the MLB team out of spring training)
