I use zone hitting. It's easier for several reasons:
1) Much better input response time.
2) PCI still moves after initiating your swing (I have it visually turned off, but the effect still works).
3) Balls hang up in the air less, so more extra-base hit possibilities (weighs much better against the singles, especially with balls hit down the lines).
Actually, it kind of feels more like the CPU logic is the same, and they sit there and think that they can still take the base, when in fact they can't. I'm just glad that there is some aggressiveness in play, even on plays going from 1st to 3rd and such (or stretching a single into a double).
I've thrown plenty of runners out on wild pitches already.
If it wasn't mentioned from the developers, I wouldn't have known anything was different. Then again, the biggest issues came from online cheesing, and I don't play online.
I believe the new air drag coefficient is in play, and is slowing down the pitch speed. I tested two "identical" line drive home runs with Giancarlo Stanton in HR Derby from both games, and '17 got out at 2.97 seconds while '18 got out at 3.49 seconds. Although the relationship isn't linear, to ultimately slow up that much more means it probably also occurs a little bit while pitching as well.
That, and combined with the faster input response, it definitely makes for the appearance of a slower pitch speed (plus the slower pitch speed itself).
