Re: MLB The Show 18 First Impressions
Can't say enough about the jump in Create-a-Player. From the face choices, skin tones, hair (some cool hair), even the eyebrows. This is a HUGE jump.
I thought I'd have to go in and do a bunch of editing of CAPS in my carry over franchise, but not so. Last year many of the faces looked red, not so this year. I was pleasantly shocked at how great they look. Now I've got to find the missing players and edit them (already found one, Preston Tucker for the Braves).
The Washington Nats red uniforms almost looked pink last year, or if they'd been washed for the 1,000 time. Not this year. BAM, the color really hits you (playing on the Pro/4k tv).
Great job on this SDS.Comment

Did the Phillies powder-blue unis not have a name on the back ever? They don't have NOBs in this game and boy does it look off. The numbers look small and the gap between them and the top of the jersey looks bush league.
I played franchise for a few hours last night. Meh. Game is pretty much the same. New menus are slightly better ... but only slightly.
I still love the game but this "update" isn't worth $60.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 18 First Impressions
I’m happy they focused on gameplay. The show has always been a gameplay first game and everything else is a bonus. It would be nice if they added more to franchise but the Show will never have a better franchise than OOTB.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 18 First Impressions
Still disappointed that they cant get better dirt stains on the light colored uni's, still looks like grey dirt.
Edit: dirt on uniforms seems mixed. beltre was on base at first and the dirt was grey then when it showed him in a cutscene it looked correct, reddish brown instead of grey.
Also disappointed with the stadium sounds and chants, they still sound to soft and muted like there coming from a few blocks outside the stadium. Sure i heard on one of the streams that stadium audio would be improved.Last edited by dazzelle; 03-23-2018, 10:14 AM.Comment

Man I am disappointed what you are saying about the Phillies. I am from Philly and I always play as them. This stinks.Comment

Yes the colors are alot brighter imo compared to 17. I cant say if they look correct but it looks a lot better to me.

Re: MLB The Show 18 First Impressions
One Play Now game is all I got in, will dive in heavily starting tonight. But...
- the new rain/fog weather effects are beautiful. I played @ Wrigley, 1:00 start, in April w/weather set to rain. Looked just like a real April game there in real life.
- Now that I'm playing on a 4k monitor, I tried the 3 visual options (speed, balanced, and detailed I think?). Settled on Balanced which is 1440p. Beautiful with decent performance.
- The revamped zone hitting felt great. I was concerned my stick skills weren't accurate enough to handle the more precise input needed now for the PCI, but so far so good.
- Trim and fit Kyle Schwarber is indeed in the game!
Looking forward to finishing my work and family obligations today and diving in for many hours. RttS will probably be my first task, then start a tester franchise (will be waiting for roster updates before starting any real franchise).Comment

Re: MLB The Show 18 First Impressions
Played one game last night after downloading and installing updates.
Twins v Red Sox at Fenway, 1pm game with partly cloudy skies.
Pomeranz v Odorizzi
I loaded up my slider set from last year, which I will update for the 18' season after I get through ten games.
Colors and presentation look very nice.
Game ran smoothly, and I noticed no rear hiccups.
Pomeranz threw a sinker in the dirt which Vasquez had to go and get, but didn't immediately animate into the "slide on my chin guards" animation. I saw one ball get by resulting in a base advance. So far, so good.
I chose Pomeranz because my pitching sliders are set at "One" for control and consistency, and he definitely had to really work to throw pitches effectively with Classic pitching. You can tweak sliders with high-control guys on the mound each game, because they will tilt the scales. I like to see where the mid-level guys will fare, so you see some real struggles when spotting pitches. I was happy with the results in game one.
Replays got an overhaul. Nice full-speed replays like watching a game on the network. Good.
The Twins tried to bunt with men at 1st and 2nd, and it was way to fast, and Devers, even playing back, threw the runner out at first easily. I sure hope the rocket-bunt plague will get an inoculation.
Preloading throws looks awesome, very smooth and silky with the throwing animations. My fielder Speed, Arm Strength, and Reaction Time are all tweaked according to my realistic style tendencies, and balls that should be just out of reach reacted accordingly. Really, really happy with game one test.
JD Martinez hit a home run, I liked the understated rounding of the bases and a high-five at the plate. Was not a big enough jack for a bat flip or no-doubter cam, but I have power adjusted to not see 500 footers every game.
I lost the game 5-3 but it was a well played game, and I did see some groundballs that bounced off of gloves, but were corralled and thrown to first in time to get the runner. I saw it too many times, I think, for one game, so I may have to adjust fielding errors down from last year if I am going to cause that animation too many times per game.
Ball spin both off the bat, and heading towards to outfield had an overhaul. The zone where the outfielder animation takes over is smaller on fly balls.. i like that. I see a greater chance for misplays and errors if you take the wrong path to the ball.
I did not have any chances for diving stops or catches, will report in on that later.
Pitches looked good as far as physics and movement. Pitch edits and correct repertoires are something I look forward to every year, and someday SDS will just ask one of us to do it prior to release, and the game will ship with guys that don't throw splitters, not having them in their arsenal. Someday.
The removal of Season Mode is beyond the scope of reasonable omissions. I'd like to get someone to break down that decision.
I have not messed with RTTS yet, but for baseball purists, and guys that know the game, it is ridiculous to think that buying a guy a pair of Nike Cleats in the game will progress his speed from an 88 to a 99
Speed is speed and I would rather see money spent on strength and speed coaches give a small boost to speed, versus an arm band and an unlockable sports drink. We are not all 15 years old, and boosting ratings of a created player to a 99 based on un-lockables probably has more merit in MLB Slugfest than in a simulation...
So far, I have only played on game, but I certainly saw some interesting tweaks and upgrades, and I look forward to releasing Stealyerface's Realism Sliders V1.0 after my ten-game test set.

Re: MLB The Show 18 First Impressions
Loved how they changed the RTTS batting camera (after contact) back to where it used to be
in recent additions, the camera jumped up to the sky and I had a hard time seeing things
looks more like The Show '10 camera which is awesome
also like the new defensive cameras that are panned back a bit - feel like I can see moreComment

Re: MLB The Show 18 First Impressions
I love the colors. They're even better than The Show 15. I also love what they did with uniform numbers and letters. They cleaned up the muddy stitching art, and also did a really good job depicting the "shiny" thread those uniform parts use. The shiny isn't quite as good as what Frostbite does in FIFA and Madden, but it looks really good just the same.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 18 First Impressions
Only played for about an hour last night when my game unlocked and I must say I love what I saw. I didnt play enough to see any bugs or quirks but my initial impression was very very positive. I am playing on a 4k HDR monitor (lg 32ud99-w) and went with "balanced" with HDR on and the game looked great. You can tell the hitting has been improved from last year and that the physics were touched upon as well.
I loved the in between pitches scenes where the camera cuts back to show the field. I like the updates to the presentation and hearing "D-Ro" in the booth. I also noticed they updated their defalut walk up music. I havent messed with SOTS and don't plan on since I don't have as much time to put into it. The default music sounds great to me this year and continue to roll with that again.
Wish I could have had a chance to play more but had to get some sleep for work. Ill put in a bunch of time this weekend. Bummer that they took out season mode as I was planning on rolling with that this year as opposed to franchise but I will live. So far so good and a thumbs up to SDS!PSN: ckarlic

Re: MLB The Show 18 First Impressions
My fault for pre-ordering without all the facts but I felt that mode was safe. I would not have bought it if I knew it was taken out. I had just accepted one mode being taken out but 2 is a little much. I have not even opened the app yet and will probably delete it. The lose of $60 will not kill me but its the last $60 i am spending on this game.“The saddest part of life is when someone who gave you your best memories becomes a memory”Comment
