In my White Sox franchise i'm looking at 3 things:
Moving Nate Jones to Houston
Acquiring Kyle Barraclough from Miami
Moving James Shields.

What players am i looking at having to give up to Miami? And what from Houston's farm could i acquire, i really like Cionel Perez and Jonathan Arauz from them, but i dont know if that is too much for asking.

Nate Jones can fetch Abraham Toro-Hernandez

Kyle Barraclough will cost you Dane Dunning.

-$21 million in surp plus for Shield. Nobody going to take that. Blake Rutherford would be needed to complete a deal for a lotto ticket.

Going to start a Twins franchise and looking into possibly trading for one of Felipe Rivero, Arodys Vizcaino, or Jake McGee. What are each of their surplus values? I get 24.2 million for Rivero, 4.6 million for Vizcaino, and -1 million for McGee. Did I calculate those right? Rivero's surplus value seems way too low to me

Rivero has $46 million in surplus.

Vizcaino has $9.1 million in surplus.

Jake has ~$-3 million in surplus.


Rivero can bring back Fernando Romero + Stephen Gonsalves/Nick Gordon + lotto ticket

Vizcaino can bring back Zack Little

McGee can bring back John Curtiss

I was wondering about the price and realization of a couple players to trade for. I'll be using the Braves and want a pitcher and outfield bat and have batted around some ideas in here.

What would asking price be for Taijuan Walker of D'Backs and would they trade him?
And would the Mets be willing to dump Cespedes and what would they want back?

Kyle Wright or Mike Soroka or Luiz Gohara or Ian Anderson straight up for Taijuan Walker.

Mets would be very unlikely to deal Cespedes, and especially to the Braves.

Good trade fits for Bour and Realmuto?

Well. The Yankees sure could use some consistency at 1st base with how Bird has been. The Astros have been linked to JT.

Estevan Florial or Justus Sheffield straight up for Justin Bour is perfect value.

Forrest Whitely and Corbin Martin for JT.

Or

Kyle Tucker and Cionel Perez for JT.



I am around Monday through Friday, and rarely on the weekends. The wife gets me then! Happy Easter everyone.

Lol. I think we’ve established with JS that I still have some learning to do on Surplus. My numbers were off in comparison to yours and Yankees.

At least I got the Taijuan Walker deal right.

You know, I think I did. That actually makes the most sense. My numbers haven’t been as far off with other players. Just curious, how do you handle identifying Surplus for players who still have team-control/arbitration years ahead of them?

Extensions and such are obvious. Just look up their contracts.

Arby players I look at similar players and see what they got in ARB. Easiest way I believe.

First three years is always around $1.7 without bonuses.

Get rid of Heyward and Zobrist and get Arrieta back. Any recommendations. I did see that you think that the best you can do for Heyward is a salary dump.

Have you ever thought of making a list of all the players values for 2018? (Yes I know that’ll be time consuming). I’ve seen the formula but I’m not understanding it. Never been good at math lol. Would you be able to post an example of a current player from start to finish? Would be much appreciated. Thanks and have a great Easter

Heyward is almost untradeable, Zobrist I am sure I can cook up something but doubt you will get much back, and the Phillies won't and can't move Jake.

Probably will bring in 1.05 WAR over the next few years, maybe more but he needs to prove that.

He has $41.25 million remaining...right? If not that can be corrected easily.

1.05 × 5 = 5.25 × 8.5 (WAR value I use) = $44.625 million

$44.625 - $41.25 million = ~$3.375 million of value. The guy is not very valuable at all. If he was making peanuts it would be a different story. Home runs aren't very valuable anymore. He can't walk to save his life, and his defense is mediocre.
