There are no limits to mound visits for a game.

MLB THE SHOW is the only sports game where it does feel like the user is responsible for 100% of the outcomes.
every game Ive lost has been all due to user input. might be due to poor base running, leaving a pitcher in too long, poor in field fielding, not throwing to a cut off man in the outfield, not swinging on a final pitch of a game, choking at the plate.
and the game feels just as rewarding, when you pitch out of jam, get that game hitting hit, when you bring your closer in and you save a game.

That is the best thing about THE SHOW, when compared to other sports games.

I picked up 19, the last version I played was 16. Something is different about the batting timing when using zone and I like it quite a bit. Even coming in cold I feel like I’m getting the cursor where I want it a lot more easily than in 16 when I felt it was laggy or just not syncing up to where I felt I was placing it with the analog stick. I’m also not wildly behind every fastball which is nice too. Anyway, I only had a chance to play a few innings but it was a really positive first impression so far as batting went. Hit variety and ball flight seems better too.

Also, the game looks great on even an original PS4 but the player faces remain in the uncanny valley. Not sure much can be done there but they’re kind of horrifying.

And for anyone who has an interest in pitching simply by reading the signals from the catcher, this post is a must-read. Although it's actually a quote of a post, I haven't seen this kind of detail posted anywhere else and it really tells you most if not all that you need to know to understand the calls that the catcher is making.

Last year I just used API calls on HOF but this year I'm trying to do it just by watching the catcher.
As a follow up to this, the catcher often calls the pitch and moves his hand downwards. I'm taking that as a sign to keep my pitch down in the zone.

I'm also seeing him tap his glove, anyone know what that one means?
(edit, looks like that one means I need to start the pitch outside the zone and bring it back in)

I don't think the Show gets enough credit for how well the offseason is handled by CPU teams. Does there need to be improvements? Absolutely!

But I am currently going through the offseason and the Red Sox dealt away to me Jo Adell who hasn't performed at the big league level for them and they get a Top 50 prospect catcher and two depth pieces from me. I then watch them trade Jackie Bradley Jr to the Braves for more depth pieces. I'm thinking who is going to play right field for the BoSox this year?

Well after freeing up about $15MM in trades, they are now in hot pursuit of Rusney Castillo who is rated 86 at the age of 35 and who is the best available free agent on the market right now in January.

I know some may question why they didn't stick with JBJ or Adell, but neither of those guys worked. They have been trying to trade both since last season and giving them chance after chance to workout, but they didn't and now they made their moves and have the opportunity to land a better piece than both of them for their lineup and roster.

And this is just one interesting roster building piece I've seen this offseason.

I'm not saying its perfect and without faults/shortcomings, but its pretty damn good imo.

I'm all in on catcher signs this year and watching a CPUvCPU game I noticed the extent of signs that the catcher was giving to the pitcher. Switch the controller to a human and it changed to just a basic pitch type with a location, sometimes.

Anyone know how to get the catchers to provide the same kind of detail they do in CPU games when a human player is involved?

I've never watched a CPU vs CPU game and I don't use the API, but when I pitch I do get the catcher to call a pitch and then a location, although its only inside/outside. He doesn't designate up/down or anything of the sort.

I'm going to have to watch a CPU vs CPU game to see what is different.

This is an area of the gameplay I would like to see expanded upon, that being the catcher and his ability to not only frame pitches, but an IQ level so to speak about calling games.

Dang, my power hitters are struggling to make any kind of solid contact with a power swing on HOF. When they do it falls short of the fences. Contact swing and they are fine, there's a time for that but that's generally not why I have Cody Bellinger and Joc Pederson in my lineup.

Might be time to make a trip to the batting cage.

Random, but I've recently had a stretch of games where I don't get the HR camera on no-doubters after seemingly always getting it.

I was reminded how much I love that broadcast quality pullback camera. I know it's been beaten to death, but I hope the option makes a return one day.

Something else this game does well is capture the ebbs and flows of a season. What I mean is right now my Cardinals are slumping, having lost 5 of our last 6 after winning 8 of 10. It just seems that plays guys were making before, they aren't now, pitchers are missing spots a tad more, and guys are just making routine blunders.

The overall feeling of the game is just of doom and gloom as you find a way to fight yourself out of it. And when you do, the game feels vastly different.

After being hosed a majority of the game by Clyde Washington having two separate strike zones for me and the Brewers, and his buddy Woody Keller making horrible calls at 2nd base...it was fitting that we found a way to stay in the game, get back in the game, tie the game, and then with 2 outs in the top of the 9th do this...

I'm curious as to how people approach the slider adjustment vs. difficulty level conundrum. I'm playing on HOF, hitting and pitching. The CPU hit me up for 20 runs in my first game (Seattle, of all teams) so I think this year HOF is definitely playing better baseball on default sliders than last year. However, as time goes on I'm finding it easier to keep them in check although I haven't had a shutout yet so I am giving up runs and homers. Thing is, I have the number 1 pitching staff in baseball so they should be good. I hate to start messing with the sliders because once you start it's infectious and difficult to stop. I specifically wanted to avoid doing that this year.

I might try Legend for a few games but I'm concerned that the differentiation between players will be less noticeable and basically everyone will hit like they're an All Star.

My recommendation would be go up to Legend. There is still differentiation between players.

The difference in difficulty levels in the Show isn't giving CPU players a ratings boost/cheat to make it more difficult. Instead its tied to the game mechanics meaning your timing window when hitting will be smaller, your margin for error when using say meter pitching will get smaller and the CPU/AI is quicker to recognize patterns you fall into pitching and hitting.
