Re: MLB The Show 19 First Impressions Thread (IMPRESSIONS ONLY)

Lost a game today 4-3. All 4 runs scored were unearned

    Frustrating to say the least

    Tough L for Drew Harrington

Re: MLB The Show 19 First Impressions Thread (IMPRESSIONS ONLY)

Well I said I was skipping this years game, managed to hold out until today when I finally picked it up. All in all it isn’t a lot different from last years game. My only gripes are that there seems to be way too many opposite field hits. I’m not really seeing anyone pull anything. I’m also not caring a lot for the new fielding changes. I’ve seen a few too many errors and botched plays. I haven’t seen a lot of power, I’ve only hit one home run, but I’ve only played three games so it’s too early for me to tell if there are problems with power. I’ll give the game a 3 out of 5 just for the simple fact that it’s basically the same game that I’ve been playing since 2009.

Re: MLB The Show 19 First Impressions Thread (IMPRESSIONS ONLY)

ured instead of me posting a thread the instant something i dont like happens and risk sounding like one of many possible forum stereotypes (Whats your Thread Archetype? Lol), i would just keep a running list while playing for a few weeks to avoid overreacting or whining. I have played the show at least 11-12 years out of the 14 yearly editions, but its still possible some of the following overlap.

My goal with this thread is that if anyone replies with their own list, they take the time to compile it instead of just spouting off at the mouth. But if you simply want to comment on mine and agree/disagree, thats fine also. Here is what i noted:

        Pros:
•seen lots of new hit types
•love that menus are pretty much same as 18
        •fielding so far is wonderful
•RTTS feels a lot better overall
•in limited Play on AS hitting, cpu Pitching iq seems better?
•its fun, so far im entertained
•pitcher crane necks seem to be gone?
•underrated roster mAking community - without whom mlb the show would not be possible
        •some options with in-game presentation being on/off
•announcer saying: “playing against his previous employer” about a guy i traded
•catcher holding on to foul tips
•new hit type: had a Hit that sliced fair down the line and then go into the stands in the corner in foul territory for a ground-ruled double
•animation fixes for players like J.Hader, etc. (lots of guys have been fixed)

        Cons:
•fielding in RTTS:while actually playable and vastly improved, they still havent gotten it right (why is there still not an option to not use 1st person?)
•still havent fixed pitching from the stretch animation
•Really hoping as I get into it there have been massive intricate changes/fixes, otherwise wow there is zero graphical improvements! (Is that a real word? graphical? LOL) feels worse than madden on that front.
•zero seems to have been done developing the batting stance creator (another feature that will disappear in a few years?)
•yes, something is way wrong with framerates
•rosters: game would be unplayable for me personally without the roster creating community (i salute you)
•nothing that stands out to separate this game from 18 so far. Even madden always “felt” like a new game.
•ratings formula is flawed. Too much emphasis placed on fielding and durability. I have a guy rated 85 even though the only attribute he has 85 or above is durability. His fielding is 81, speed 64, power is 67,59...correction: durability isn’t even an 85, its 84.
•editing a roster, saving a player, and having to cycle through all the positions all over again to get to the next position.
•not being able to control slide types, even though they pretend i can
•announcer saying: “he’s really having a good outing” after the first pitch
•fielders not backing each other up. Why???? Is it because you don’t want to include collision between players??? Got to be a solution fellas come on.
•non user friendly replay system. Why not be able to cycle through the 100 different camera angles the game has? I dont need a video software program to watch a replay. This hasnt been touched in years
•bug that occurs when going in and out of quick manage that makes stats go haywire. Ruins entire games, makes me turn the game off and do something else for awhile
•fielder dives: same one diving animation theyve probably had for over 5+ years now, its all out belly flop that looks terrible and painful. This belly flop like the belly flop diving back to 2nd base have needed to be removed for at least 4 years now. They might literally be from the first Show. (If you have ever seen the football movie necessary roughness, its like the dive that guy does trying to tackle someone 20 yards downfield already lol)
•i was beginning to think the pitcher wall aka pitchers getting beamed with line drives all day had been fixed, it has not. Cant even pick the ball up and make the out after. Not allowed to disrupt the animation. Its a foul ball animation that doesent allow you to tag a runner right next to you or step on the base thats 2 steps away.
•throwing out runners bug: must be bug? catcher double hitches before throwing (button accuracy meter)
•sliding controls never work (for years now)
•umpires blow calls in RTTS but there is no manager challenges.
•when i clearly check my swing = 3B umpire calls strike...when i know i wasnt able to check my swing = safe call (ball) from 3B umpire. Literally backwards. For years now
•Attn: game director/writer and/or devs...1 and 1 is also IMG_0834.jpgan even count. Yes 2 balls and 2 strikes is also an even count but so is 1 and 1
•Boss challenge said to get a hit by swinging on time and I hit a no doubt 2-run homerun with 110 mph exit velocity and I failed the challenge
•cpu singles, i made pitcher change w/ warmups, no more runner on 1st. Batter who singled disappeared! Checked game log for confirmation
•in RTTS: when playing SS, please stop including cpu stolen base attempts as fielding opportunities, please include more 4-6-3 double plays, or 6-4-3 dp’s when playing 2B. Also receiving PO’s as a 1B is unnecessary.
•in RTTS: i really wish there was an option to turn on Action Pitches on defense if you want to play/watch the entire game.
•in RTTS: in 14 years the show still has not developed fielding to handle cutoff throws
•in RTTS: in 14 years the show still has not developed alternate and better camera angles (including the ability to simply turn off 1st person view while still controlling one player, which would help to make users better fielders when they played regular exhibition/franchise games
•the basic animation for OF throwing is terrible! Why is he releasing like a curve or slider? RBI 19 on my iphone does a way better job here

        Undecided:
•personalized umpiring now has some some extreme calls
•unsure of why the timing seems off on hitting in broadcast cameras. Don’t see why it would be any different from 18 to 19. I will chalk it up to user error right now
•pet peeve: game going to demo mode from menu screen after 2 friggin seconds! (And as i type just this sentence thats twice its gone to demo)
•havent come across this yet when fielding: previously the worst thing about fielding was the fact you could literally dive for a ball and the ball go underneath you. You had to slow up and dive at exactly the moment when the ball would go into the glove of apparently A fully outstretched Starting Lineup figurine that cannot bend his arms. “Oh if that ball was just a little bit further out of my reach i woulda had that one.” Ahhhh! That makes me wanna scream!! (Came across it, many, many times. Smh. Why?) maybe they should go back & play bases loaded 2 to see how fielding should be done
•question: in RTTS Has anyone Ever seen a wild pitch or passed ball while at third base? Or any base for that matter?
•question: in RTTS, is it just me or is there never opportunities to dive while fielding?
•franchise trading seems broken in the opposite direction now.

They really need to overhaul the replay challenges. I’ve never seen one anywhere other than first base and there’s no way to initiate a challenge. I had a play today where I was called out on a stolen base attempt of second base in the 6th inning of a 1-1 game. I checked the replay from every camera angle imaginable and I was clearly safe. It cost me a run too because my next batter doubled. I eventually lost the game 2-1 in 10 innings. At least give me the option to challenge the call, or just remove this feature entirely.

There's an option to set the base umpires to never blow/miss a call. Best remedy to this issue at this point.

I keep forgetting about that. Does that effect balls and strikes too though? Because I still like that to fluctuate.

Never mind. You said base umpires. Duh

Yeah I can't think of what the option is called, but its separate from balls and strikes.

                      Just one man’s opinion.
I don’t actually care about any of this.

What a heartbreaking loss last night to the Cubs.

Down 4-3 in the bottom of the 9th, both Harrison Bader and Tommy Pham get on base to lead off the inning. So the tying run is on third and the winning run at first.

Jon Singleton comes to the plate and hits a line drive that Addison Russell lays out and snags thus preventing the tying run at least from scoring. Patrick Wisdom is up next and hits an absolute frozen rope right at the left fielder that prevents Bader from tagging up. I bluffed and made him throw, but Zagunis' throw was right on line.

Juan Fabregas comes up and on a 2-2 pitch hits a drive that I am sure is going out of the park to win the game, but that damn Jason Heyward climbs the wall in the gap to rob the homerun.

I was so dejected after that game. I just knew that Fabregas had won the game. I jump out of my seat, pumping my fist, yelling at the ball to get out....only to watch Heyward bring it back.

                        Damn...

                          Damn...
What a great game! What difficulty do you play on?

I recently made the move to legend. I haven't looked back, what a challenge it is. I also made the switch to zone hitting, very rewarding when you make good contact. Playing as the Dodgers yesterday, Alex Verdugo hit a towering 3 run homer, I switched from directional and I had never hit such a bomb, it just kept going.
