If its not, it's going to be.

Yeah baserunning logic is worse than little league.

I had an equally frustrating one last night. Playing the 1st inning moments with my DD team, 2 outs and just need 1 more to complete it. AI strikes out and realmuto on my DD team drops the strike. He picks up the ball as the AI runner tears out of the box and realmuto is frozen. Can't move him or throw, he just stands there with his arm cocked back. Runner is safe.

Next up with an 0-2 count and the AI batter beyond puzzled I throw a changeup in the dirt which somehow the AI got the bat on to shoot a liner into the gap. My defenders take all sorts of bizarre angles and when I finally get the ball to the cutoff man a simple press for throw to home equals air mailed, runner easily trots across home and challenge fails.

Sometimes Sony does stuff and I say "Damn, that's genius". That was what I said this year when I first heard about the new Moments mode. Who wouldn't want to go back and replay famous MLB moments? Genius idea.

Then I realized it wasn't genius at all. In fact, it was a giant waste. Here we have this GREAT idea and then Sony ruins all of it's potential with one glaring omission.

Why would anyone want to play these great classic moments with current rosters? I don't want to hit Jose Bautista's majestic HR against 2019 players. Why not let us use our own custom rosters for Moments? Moronic.

Re: MLB The Show 19 First Impressions Thread (IMPRESSIONS ONLY)

I finally had a chance to sit down and write my impressions. I played MLB the Show 19 to death over the weekend. I played with all 30 teams for the first time ever. I wanted to do something different this year. I try to come up with creative ways to play this game before I go into franchise. I usually play the MLB today games until I am ready to do my season. This year I will do something different like face all the minor league teams and face all 29 teams in a little tournament, so if I lose I will play until I beat them.

Anyway, impressions! If you were on the fence about getting the Show 19, you will regret it. The game plays the best out of the box I have seen from playing this game. I started playing the Show with the Show 15. Here are my pros and cons.

          Pros:

          1. Hitting is the best ever. Lots of variety. Contact hitting is the best its ever been. Bunting is not as hard as before. It's not a home run derby per se, but if you know what you're doing, you can hit multiple HRs with one player in one game or hit multiple HRs with your team.

          2. Fielding is the best its ever been. I feel like if I make an error or over commit, it's my fault. Ratings finally matter. If you are slower than a snail then you will have trouble defending. If you're Mike Trout, you're good.

          3. Heidi Watney. One of the best editions to this game. I am subscribed to the MLB Network, so finally seeing her on this game is a breath of fresh air.

          4. Dynamic difficulty. I play on dynamic and this year it's finally at a realistic progression. You don't hit 3 times and you go up a level or pitch 3 innings and are up a level. It's balanced and takes a while to go up and down.

          5. Presentation. The best presentation ever on the Show since I started playing it. The crowd is finally alive. The baseball sound is euphoric. I love the overall presentation. It feels like you are at the ballpark.

          6. Every game feels new. One game you win 12-2 and the other you win 7-8. The other can be you getting your butt whooped by 12-5 or 1-3. The games are varied.

          7. Overall gameplay. Win or lose, you are going to have fun no matter what happens. I had one of the best games I ever played over the weekend. I was the A's and I faced the Phillies. It was a close game. The final score was 8-7 my way. A lot of homers and rallies. Seems like every other inning it was a tie. It was the most exciting game I ever played. I didn't know how this game was going to end. I got another homer with Matt Olson to seal the deal. I hit 3 homers with him. He was a perfect 5-5. The other hits were 2Bs. That game was probably the most fulfilling I had so far since playing this iteration. It was so memorable. That's how real baseball is, so I was lucky enough to experience that in this game.

          Cons

          1. Fielding. Still have animations you cannot cancel out of.

          2. AI can still be cheesy with their hits. They are super lumberjacks. They rarely check swings or don't swing. They hack at every pitch and I do mean every pitch. A lot of the times they are all like Vladimir Guerrero hitting bad pitches and have 20/20 vision.

          3. Stealing bases. Still illogical AI stealing. Yadier Molina is stealing bases. The logic doesn't make much sense. I am not good at stealing bases, so I get caught steal 99% of the time, again. I finally started stealing bases more with Trea Turner on the Show 18 when that thread was made, but I don't know about this edition. I'm too afraid to pull the trigger lol. If you have low speed and low stealing ratings then don't steal, but the AI does it every other inning. It never made much sense.

          4. Commentary. I do not listen to the commentary, but when I do have a chance to it's not that bad. The commentary is basically the same as MLB the Show 18, but they added Heidi Watney.

          5. Coming back from trailing or keeping your lead is difficult especially when you are down more than 3 runs. AI comebacks are still unrealistic. It does not feel authentic. I played a game this morning as the Texas Rangers. I was up 5-0 in the 1st inning. I was seeing everything well that inning. I played against the Blue Jays. They came back to tie in the 3rd inning. A lot of the hits I gave up were back-to-back-to-back. It felt super cheesy. I did win this game 7-5, so that's good news. I also have pitching on Dynamic and I was almost to Hall of Fame.

          6. AI bullpen logic and AI manager issues are still prevalent. Starters are still in way too long for example. Not as bad as the last two games, but still bad.

Conclusion - MLB the Show is the best simulated sports game on the market, hands down. I love this iteration of the Show. I am enjoying it. You have to at least play it before you dismiss it. You have to get this in your hands to experience the gameplay. I am a franchise guy, so we will cross that bridge when we get to it lol.

Haven’t played Moments yet, but isn’t it tied to DD like MTO? If so it’s probably pretty much the same reason why they don’t let you use custom rosters in that mode. People could and some definitely would, abuse it and use it to cheat to get the DD rewards.

I didn’t know it was tied to DD. That’s a shame honestly. They should have made it a normal game mode. Shame.

                First impressions after one game:

-Thought I put the wrong disc in because the menus look essentially exactly the same as last year, but now with even more stuff I don't care about.

-David Bote's facescan looks like a bee stung him on the nose. I'm not even sure that was Bote who got scanned, looks nothing like him.

-Nice to see it's the same Schwarber facescan from like three years ago. Really makes you feel like you're playing a brand new game when guys have such outdated models.

-No Duane Underwood or Jen-Ho Tseng, both of whom are on the 40-Man roster and played in the Majors last season. Remember when anyone who played in the MLB would be added the following year? That was nice.

-Game feels essentially the exact same, but hitting feels sluggish or slower. That's either good or bad, I guess, depending on how you felt about the previous game. Fielding feels the same, not sure if that was supposed to be updated?

-The weird camera cuts before batters doesn't remind me of a baseball game on TV if that's what they were going for. There aren't camera men standing behind the pitcher on the field to the left and other weird angles.

-The game still is the worst sports game at making it feel like you're watching a real game on TV. The presentation just isn't there.

-Heidi Watney's character model is terrifying, but her lines at least kind of help make the game feel "new"

-I still see the same animations that have been in the game for years. You win the game and see the Manager slightly turn to shake the hitting coach's hand, like you have for the past dozen or so MLB The Shows.

-At least it seems they cut back on the ridiculous amount of "SUPER ANGRY BATTER, GONNA THROW MY BAT OR KILL SOMEONE" animations from last year.

-Still way too many ground rule doubles.

Anyway, that was after one game. May come back for more impressions later or I might just copy and paste my First Impressions post from last year because that'll go along with the theme of this series.

I can definitively say that bunting is better this year. I was able to successfully drag bunt for 2 base hits in my last game. One with Eliser Alvarez and the other with Harrison Bader.

Alvarez bunted the ball first base side about a third of the way of the baseline. Bader bunted third base side between pitchers mound and third base line. Pitcher had no chance and 3rd baseman wasn't quick enough.

Also have successfully sacrifice bunted several times.

No kidding. If he hated in last year, why bother with this years game? Good for SCEA though, they made another $60.00.

                        My first impressions: ehh.

Is it a good game? Yes. Is it worth dropping $60.00 if you're still enjoying MLB 18? I think not. There are some things they added this this year that I like but not enough to go out and buy it (I rented it from Redbox). I'll happily continue playing MLB 18 until there is a drastic price drop.

I played with a historical set from 18 that I ported into 19 - and Ichiro dropped down a beautiful bunt on me that I didn't see coming. It's not perfect, but bunting is definitely improved.

I'm starting to see a lot more cases of outfielders not animating properly when they are running to catch. I can run and get under the ball but the fielder doesnt react at all like they dont even know a play is going on.

Had a situation last night. Runner on first. Soft grounder to short. Charged it with the intent of turning 2, realized I had no chance of getting the runner at 2nd, so I cancelled my throw to 2nd and went to 1st -- seamlessly and got the out.

This particular situation in 18 would've resulted in my SS just standing there aimlessly or taking forever to throw to 1st and everyone would've been safe.
