I remember the guys saying something about it during one of the streams, saying that with this new dynamic cam the depth perception on fly balls is a bit better.

That's nice but i didn't have any problems with that in 18 and i want my old camera back!

Random mostly insignificant complaint: Throw cancelling is entirely too sensitive. I tried to play with it on and my players just kept pump faking over and over. Had to turn it off. Maybe its user error and something to get used to, but jumping straight from 18 it was aggrevating.

Same here, it turned into a mess with it on. Also where did the option to set the throw dificulty go?!

Re: MLB 19: First Impressions Thread (IMPRESSIONS ONLY)

First Impression details: Playing default, fresh out of the box, on all-star difficulty. I don't dabble in any of the modes except franchise, so obviously I was bummed about the lack of attention, but I did like the contract updates. I could complain about morale killing ratings, but I'm sure it'll be fixed sooner rather than later. Started my franchise with the Red Sox, as I do every year (always play for a week or two until better rosters come out). I wasn't expecting much, but I am quite pleased with the gameplay. Hitting just feels so real. The ball physics are much better, and different hit types are great. I had a couple singles up the middle, a couple flares, doubles over the heads of outfielders, etc. Defense also felt like it got a lot of love. Ratings matter, which matters to me, since my outfield of Benny,Betts,JBJ needs to play better than other outfields. I don't love that 2nd basemen are still making plays 150 yards into right field on little bloops that should be hits, but it's less frequent. I will definitely get all 162 games in against this year, for the 3rd year in a row. I play xbox 1 mostly, but I own 5 games for ps4...….The Show 15, 16, 17, 18, 19.

I’m still breaking in the game and figuring out the game play so I can’t comment much on all of it definitely quite yet. There are a few things that are concerning, but a lot of good, too.
This....and the sounds. The crowd and atmosphere is spot on. For the blue jays anyways. I’ve gone to a bunch of games and the show replicates the crowd chatter, cheers and atmosphere incredibly well.

Re: MLB 19: First Impressions Thread (IMPRESSIONS ONLY)

Admittedly I'm a graphics whore. In my carry over season I lost almost all the real life coaches that are no longer in the data base and they were replaced with these gargoyle cartoonish creatures, ugh. The game is absolutely beautiful and I'm not getting why, after all these years, they can't spend more time, or come up with better generic faces for the CAPS.

Also a little upset that Quick Counts doesn't have the new pre-pitch presentation that was bragged about. I took a look at it and it's really a thing of beauty, but at my age I simply don't have the attention span to play without the QC (hate falling asleep in my chair with the controller in my lap ). Hoping this was just an oversight and will be fixed in the next patch. Was really looking forward to the new presentation face lift.

The new dynamic camera. I'm with others....why take the old one completely out?

Still, all in all, love the game play.

Re: MLB 19: First Impressions Thread (IMPRESSIONS ONLY)

                My first impressions:

                PROS:
                • Playability
                • Graphics
                • We can change the helmets! (and pick the classic one!)
                • Some new batting gloves
                • Great sound quality
                • New audios for some names and last names
                • New cameras angles, transitions, animations...
                • New game modes (that I've played and actually didn't care too much)
                • New legends
                • New batting stances
                • New GUI

                CONS:
                • No more classic Louisville Slugger SELECT CUT bat
                • No more Franklin PRO CLASSIC batting gloves
                • No more classic Adidas ADIZERO AFTERBURNER cleats
                • Rosters are still no importable from previous game (MLB The Show 18)
                • Sometimes... the game is hard to play smoothly (ie: throw canceling is too sensitive, fielding is really rough and some checkswings aren't clear)
                • Even if new names and last names audios are added, we're still missing some of them (ie: Arenado)
                • No immersion for legends, classics rosters, etc. I would love to have something like that.

Great improvements, but IMHO, it's a pitty they got rid of some nice elements the game used to have.

Getting a glitch in carried-over franchise where if I replace my scheduled SP with a 6th starter/MRP the scheduled SP now becomes my DH and even when I sub him out becomes available as an OF sub.

Or is this Ohtani-related? The SP is an edited player has decent but not more than average batting ratings.

My slider set stays very close from year to year.

I am not a tweaker, so my sliders are based on multiple-game tests, and I will make notes throughout the game ie...

Pearce got to second base too quickly on a double to right field.
Outfielder covered too much ground on a gap fly ball based on his speed and ratings etc...
Infielder got to a ball that was not a possible MLB play..

So, things like this, I make notes on. After ten games, I read the notes, and I look for common notes between the games played, and look for trends that are unrealistic. If I see those trends, I make a slider adjustment towards realism and "baseball plays", and then see if the next test set shows improvement, moves a step backwards etc...

The reason you have to make sure you are not tweakcentric, is that when you change one thing, you then have consequences elsewhere. Lower the baserunner speed, and your infielder arm strength may be affected. Increase reaction time, and you may have to decrease speed...

So, in answering your question, I import the previous year's version of my final slider set to the new version of the game on day one. I then make adjustments based on what SDS did in the programming of the new game.

I have played three games so far, and my slider set as of now (seven games to go for first update) are right in the pocket. Runner speeds versus arm strength, power versus contact, everything so far, is running perfectly. So, I doubt there will be much movement, as the first three games had the disparity I was hoping for. Two blowouts against me, and then I ran up 9 runs on the Yankees with Eovaldi striking out 9 through 7.2 innings.

So we are not off topic, here are some additional impressions to add:

I am trying to like the new Dynamic camera, but sometimes the angle of movement throws me for a loop in taking correct angles to make plays... I still like it, but there will be some growing pains. I would like an option to use "Dynamic18" as a choice.

CPU players seem to recognize higher rated outfielders with running decisions. I love this, and I hope it continues to have the CPU challenge a mid-level arm, and hold the bag on a + fielder's arm rating. So far, so good, and having Judge hold at third on a flyball to Mookie, was well done.

I hit two homeruns with no measurement on the replay or pre-pitch. I hope that Little Thing was not removed. Tape-measure shots are still fun to marvel at.

Pitch movement realism is moving in the right direction. If SDS ever wanted an outside consultant to help with spin-rates, movement, and actual pither's repertoire, let me know. I am a Brooks Baseball junkie and pitched for 30 years. I'll be glad to help.

Classic Pitching feels great. Being able to tap the fastball selection for Eovaldi and have him throw it 95, then long-hold that fastball just before the Max effort vibration, and have him give it at 99, is just so rewarding. If the inner matrix of the code is somehow affected with mixing pitch speeds, and rewards and punishments come accordingly, I salute thee.

Analog fielding continues to be my favorite. I actually have to take the time to concentrate on an accurate throw, and I can tell you that playing on Legend for Analog Fielding requires a steady hand... this is where the fielder ratings upgrade this year really shines. Devers might get to a ball in the hole at third, but the folks in the first ten rows behind first base better be paying attention.. well done.

Hit variety is great, fielders knocking down balls and trying to make a recovery play are some nice additions as well.

They cleaned up and shorted the branch animations for outfield play. Remember two years ago, the outfielders would scoop the ball, tap the glove, crow hop, and make the throw, allowing baserunners unfair advantages? Those days are over. Outfielders pick the ball up next to the wall, turn and fire. Nice job SDS...

Count leverage is more noticeable this year in a good way. Waiting for a pitch to hit, and getting a count-advantage seems to increase the PCI's zone of influence. ZOI is my own term for different things, but if you want to sit on a 2-0 or 3-1 fastball with a power-swing, it feels like the rewards for working the count to batter-favour are a bit more savory. Again, three games in is too soon, but so far, it is feeling organic and good.

Choppiness is there, but it was much less noticeable this morning. I also turned off the internet connection, and played my game totally offline. I'll continue to test this.

So far, another solid iteration, and I will continue to add impressions as I get towards my ten game slider adjustment V1.1

I will upload to the vault, and guys who play the game for the utmost realism should look forward to seeing the game play out just as it would watching it on TV. I mention it every year, but when you get done with a groundball to short, glove tap, half a crow-hop and a throw to first, and it beats the runner by the half-step it should, all you can do is smile!

MLB 19: First Impressions Thread (IMPRESSIONS ONLY)

I haven’t really got a chance to play much or see much of defence since it was mostly strike outs. But it was getting late so I had to hit the sack. I did see a shallow over the head bloop that the 1st baseman couldn’t get to which was cool. Never seen that before. (Around the base)

I was going through the rosters mostly and the uniforms. I did notice once you select the minor league to play, it goes straight to the lineups instead of uniform selection so I couldn’t check out the new minor league uniforms other than the home edition on the player edit menus. Btw that Fresno uniform is hideous!

The pre-pitch thing... at first I thought was cool but after a bit, nah it’s too much for me. Maybe beginning of the inning or whatever. But I have it turned off currently.

The hitting feels somewhat different too in a good way.

Although I like what they did with the fielding throw meter and how they made it more user error and less random, I feel like I miss actually seeing plays happen because I'm focused on making sure I get the meter in the green.

Exactly because of this I use analog fielding. It still relies a lot on user input but you can keep your eye on the player.

Played some March to October last night with the Rockies on HOF. Couldn't pull out the opening day win -- tough sun/shadow in CF in Miami didn't help! -- then lost a few late rally situations as well. Finally pulled out a win in a no-hitter scenario with Jon Gray, although Buster Posey ended the no-no in the 8th, with a 2-hit shutout. Pretty cool to be dropped into that situation, as the 8/9th inning come from behind stuff gets repetitive. Also had a player lock with Garrett Hampson to boost his season... that I bombed, haha.

Still juggling some settings trying to find a sweet spot. While I was doing well on HOF in 18 very recently, the adjustments to pitch speeds and fastball effectiveness might send me to All-Star for now. Not sure about pitching; fooling around with Classic/no marker after using mostly Pulse the last couple of years. Also trying out button accuracy since they tweaked how the meter works. Don't have the hang of it yet; made a few errant throws and not getting smooth animation branching. Will give it some time before going back to buttons/no feedback.
