You should run a game or two with Analog Fielding, with vibration feedback.

There are some white knuckle moments in the ninth, runner at third, and a ground ball to the third baseman, and you are just a flick of the stick away from getting that last out, or throwing the ball away.

If you picture a clock, and look at the throw to first base as a push of the R stick to 3 o'clock, the wedge of influence is analogous to the size of a piece of pie. A fielder with a high arm rating will have a larger slice of pie, and therefore the ZOI (zone of influence) has more forgiveness. Leaving a player in for his bat, might have the consequence of a very small slice of pie, requiring the input to be perfect.

I love that the user input is still important, especially on Legend, but the user gets some relief with the player-ratings...

White knuckle ride to the ninth baby!!!

      No way Jose!!

Fielding is Analog, but the way I slant the sliders, requires "legendary" stick input!!

Re: MLB 19: First Impressions Thread (IMPRESSIONS ONLY)

Played for a couple hours last night. There are some frame rate hiccups here and there, but it didn't really detract from my overall experience.

The game itself felt and plays like a refined version of '18. Fielding and hitting are improved and that alone warrants the purchase in my opinion. Fielding especially was a pet peeve of mine last year and that seems to be cleaned up.

I played a few innings with the new pre and post camera cuts between pitches and at bats. It's definitely more immersive and feels more like a game you're watching on tv, but my playing time is fairly limited on most nights. And I prefer a quicker pace, so while I can appreciate what they have implemented, I prefer quick counts and quick play, mixed with a little Hybrid every now and then. So, I guess some of these new additions won't be appreciated that much by me.

Like the new scoreboard overlays, yet I believe I don't see the pitch count on quick play with quick counts. Have to examine this further.

The overall interface is more to my liking.

Some player model faces and builds look much improved. Hair on the other hand still looks pretty awful on the majority of players. Yes, it's a nit pick but it just looks bad. Hoping the PS5 will bring better overall player models.

Loving the hit variety. Seeing quite a few balls land just inside the foul lines or just beyond. Some home runs are moon shots while others are line drives. Haven't seen a ball hit the pitcher yet which is a good sign. A good variety of bloops and liners to the outfield as well.

A speedy outfielder can definitely cover more ground (Bader gets a great jump compared to Fowler).

Commentary doesn't seem touched except for the cut to Heidi Watney, which is a nice addition. Have noticed a few incorrect lines by Matt and his team. I still think a two man crew in the booth makes more sense than a 3 man booth. Regardless, I'm sooooo tired of the commentary in this game.

Played about a half hour of RTTS. I guess it's better in that there's more of a RPG element to it. But it still is pretty much the same mode as last year. I don't know how much I'll play it to be honest. I personally wish I didn't have to manually run the bases. I'll certainly play RTTS more than Diamond Dynasty which I could give two ***** about. What a convoluted mess that mode is. Not my cup of tea.

All in all, I'm quite happy with the on the field play. It'll definitely satisfy my baseball itch. Visually, I think this is as good as it's going to get on the PS4 Pro. I expect some of the frame rate issues to get ironed out in an update...hopefully.

On the pitching side of that game (and the previous one too) I noticed if your closer is struggling with location he’s in for a very rough outing. His confidence gets shot very quickly. Seems like pitcher confidence in general plays a bigger role than in previous years.

I'm seeing this too...Trying to discern a slider fix in my set that will tone this down.

Or is this Ohtani-related? The SP is an edited player has decent but not more than average batting ratings.
Saw the same thing. I carried over my 1995 season from 18. Started over. In game 1, Randy Johnson was the pitcher for SEA vs. CLE. In game 2, Johnson was the DH, removing Martinez. So yes, this IS a problem and not just you.

Re: MLB 19: First Impressions Thread (IMPRESSIONS ONLY)

As with every year, the game is stellar and no reason for me to go back to the old version. Offline gamer only and clean screen, broadcast, presentation nut. With all the crazy good presentation changes (cameras and sounds), I can't understand some of these items i mention below and others i just wish could be changed year after year:

-Ability to turn off defensive notification icon (i use auto fielding)

-Ability to turn off the slow motion slides on close plays

-Ability to turn off the base running diamond icon (i use auto fielding/auto base running); it's baffling why it shows up: on no doubt fouls, pitcher throw overs to check runners, and no doubt HRs at least when the HR camera doesn't trigger ...just takes away from the realism in my opinion

-Ability to turn off the HR camera (i like the drama w/o the HR cam; coupled with the ability to turn off the base running diamond the drama would be awesome as it already looks sweet to watch when HR cam is not triggered)

-Ability to turn off manager tips during the game...i swear i turned that off in the options

-For broadcast, elimination of the cut in animation of the catcher throwing the ball back to the pitcher...it's interesting (but i'm thankful) that at least on throw overs to check the runners on base, it's been fixed as the entire sequence plays out with the fielder throwing the ball back to the pitcher ...why it wasn't completely fixed is baffling to me

-Wish they would bring back that option to see the "big shadow area" and the ball shadow only for manual fielding; i'd then give manual a shot...because all those helper icons and such are too distracting (in my "love of broadcast" look/feel opinion)

That's all i can think of here at work...lol at work thinking of the game...

Pretty much just wishing there was an option to turn off everything (icons, helpers, etc.) except the scorebug no matter how you play (auto, assist, manual). i'd even take an all or nothing approach if it was easiest vs a toggle option for each and every option.

Gameplay is solid and always...finds a way to improve yearly.

Graphics are also solid as always...finds a way to improve yearly.

The overall atmosphere (sounds, crowds) took a pretty big step forward, and caught me off guard a bit on how much it changed the overall realism

                kudos SCEA!

Oh yeah, remembered something else... the scorebug stayed up while I was hitting, even after the other OSDs disappear as the pitch is delivered. Did I miss a setting, or does it always stay on? Hitting with Zoom camera, the scorebug covers many players heads/hands/bat/etc.

                    This was kind of disappointing...

I'm up 3-2 in the 7th inning of my home opener. CPU has 2 runners on with two outs. Machado hits a shot to left field. I rob the Homerun with Ozuna and the announcer acts like I made a routine catch to end the inning. No excitement from the crowd or announcer.

After looking at rosters late Monday night, I played my first franchise game last night. Default All-Star/Classic/Directional/Auto fielding/Manual baserunning/Clean screen. After one game, I’m in love.

I loved 18 and continued to play it up until a few weeks ago. But everything feels more polished this go-around. Seems like I say that every year, but it’s true. Players feel more detailed to me.

I had planned to stick with 18, but initial impression is I’m glad I went with 19.

First impressions, mainly of offline DD/moments and a bit of Mto is that power has been heavily nerfed, to the point where I am surprised if I hit a homerun, even if using incredibly powerful players on rookie.

on the opposite side of things, singles are back, with a bang. I hit a lot of them, every game, which is good as otherwise I'd never score! Fielders seem to have great arms again, so even scoring from second with a decent speed player on a single is touch and go, I think I've been thrown out at the plate more times today than in all of last year!

Still not really sold tbh, maybe it'll just take some time to get used to
