Re: MLB The Show 19 First Impressions Thread (IMPRESSIONS ONLY)
Note to self (to everyone)...
If you are tied,or have a lead, in the 8th or ninth, and there is a runner on third REGARDLESS OF ANY OTHER BASERUNNERS the CPU will squeeze. Period. End of story. Every time.
Throw the first two pitches to un-hittable locations, catch the ball, and tag the runner out. Yes it is cheesy. Yes it stinks to have to do this. But, alas.. it must be done.

Anytime I think the CPU may squeeze, I do this and it has stopped the squeeze play from being attempted.
Throwing over to 3rd helps as well.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: MLB The Show 19 First Impressions Thread (IMPRESSIONS ONLY)
I finally saw a triple play! Too bad it was against me haha.
This was from my 2020 jays franchise. Bottom of 9th, 2 on, no outs. I hit a bullet to Jose Altuve, who started the triple play.
Pretty cool!

Re: MLB The Show 19 First Impressions Thread (IMPRESSIONS ONLY)
Actually it is true 95 % of the time.
Just played a game, and when the White Sox had men at 1st and third in the 8th with no outs against me, I moved my third baseman in the the “Bunt” defense.
This was a result of a post that stated you could make this move and keep the cheese suicide squeeze play off the plate.
Luckily, I decide to throw a fast ball up in the zone just in case... Just as dRow says, “I wouldn’t put it past them to try a suicide squeeze play right here”... sure enough, the runner breaks and the batter squares. Luckily he pops the ball up to the catcher, but the runner, who would have been dead meat on this play, has a quick bout of ESP, and immediately bolts back to the base.
So, while you say it is simply not true, and of course, being your opinion, is totally cool by me... EVERY TIME the computer has had a man at third, down by a run, in the 8th or 9th inning, they have squeezed on me.
So therefore, my statement comes from my own observations. Others MMV

Re: MLB The Show 19 First Impressions Thread (IMPRESSIONS ONLY)
Im seeing a few people post that they've increased pitch speed. My understanding was that SDS had increased default speed this year but it feels much like 18 to me.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 19 First Impressions Thread (IMPRESSIONS ONLY)
I've literally never seen the CPU do a squeeze play. I sometimes wonder if people get different iterations then me.
Not saying y'all are lying. Just saw somebody said 95% of the time. And its 0% for me.

I believe it was only increased on HOF and Legend levels???
I could be mid-remembering.

I played over 200 games of 18 and it only happened twice - and when it did, in successive games believe it or not.Comment

Same here. In '18 I had pitch speeds maxed out. In '19, playing default feels very similar to them being maxed out last year for me.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: MLB The Show 19 First Impressions Thread (IMPRESSIONS ONLY)
Okay, you played 200 games. Of those games, using the average, unless your closing staff stinks, you should end up with an opposing runner on third, in the eighth or ninth inning, with less than two outs 2% of the time.
2% of 200 games is four games. If it happened twice, that’s half of those games.
I’m telling you, maybe it is my sliders, my settings, whatever it is... when the cpu gets a runner to third, with less than two outs, down by a run, it will try the squeeze play.
And 100 % of the time, I will now throw the ball to an unhittable location, made even easier with a lefty at the plate, and tag the runner out at the plate. So, I’ve learned to defend it, but it is still annoying.
Again, this is my own personal observation, not all encompassing.

Re: MLB The Show 19 First Impressions Thread (IMPRESSIONS ONLY)
Playing through my first few Spring Training games in MLB 19, a carryover save from 18, I've noticed the massive difference between pitching with one of my AAA/AA guys compared to a Major League arm. I underestimated the dramatic difference between pitchers based on their control among other things and that will have a challenging impact on gameplay. It's only spring, but once the season starts I can see that managing the bullpen more closely than before will be essential.
Using just a bunch of my AAA guys, my Dodgers gave up 11 runs in a single inning and while I'll get used to it sooner rather than later, I hope, it's awesome to have this differentiation between pitchers and for pitching generally to be a lot more challenging.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 19 First Impressions Thread (IMPRESSIONS ONLY)
As a follow up, does anyone know if there are mound visit limitations as per baseball rules?
And for anyone who has an interest in pitching simply by reading the signals from the catcher, this post is a must-read. Although it's actually a quote of a post, I haven't seen this kind of detail posted anywhere else and it really tells you most if not all that you need to know to understand the calls that the catcher is making.
Last year I just used API calls on HOF but this year I'm trying to do it just by watching the catcher.Comment
