A weak grounder to second and a weak grounder to first have him an out away. Polanco hits a solid double into the gap. I'm going to let him try to finish this off though. I send the pitching coach out and Julio says he's feeling good. Cron then hits a little bloop single to right. Polanco scores to make it 2-1.

I think about going to Viz, but it was a fluke hit. Going to give Julio one more batter to get the complete game. And then Schoop takes a fastball out of the park to give the Twins a 3-2 walk-off win. Location was good, he just hit it out.

Being a person that feels that he can know pretty much when to pull his pitchers at any time... I have to ask. where was his energy bar at the time or do you play clean screen?

once you hit the yellow bar your pretty much at your maybe one to innings left limit IMO.

Most pitchers in my experience have only one inning left if not just the inning they are pitching in at the time... energy has always been the telltale marker to taking a pitcher out.

you try to push it and that is when his Velo goes down and all that and he becomes a much lesser version of himself and killed

      Cardinals lose series to A's

The Cardinals have dropped another series, this time to the A's at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals did win game 2 of the series to avoid a sweep, but now sit at 38-36 on the season and 7 1/2 games behind the division leading Cubs.

Game 1 featured Felix Hernandez going up against his old club, only to be knocked out in the 4th inning after allowing 7 runs on 12 hits and only managing 1 strikeout. This poor outing ultimately led to the Cardinals releasing the 36 year old a few days later. The A's blasted the Cardinals 9-1, with Brendan McKay's RBI single in the 9th being the only run the Cardinals could push across.

Game 2, Drew Harrington was masterful on the hill as he threw 7 shutout innings allowing only 5 hits (no extra base hits), striking out 6 while issue 2 walks. The game was 1-0 heading into the bottom of the 8th, when Patrick Wisdom clubbed a grand slam to put the Cardinals up 5-0 which would be the final score.

Game 3 Kyle Funkhouser did a serviceable job but again the bullpen couldn't keep things together as Dean Kiekhefer gave up a 2 run homerun to Jake Lamb in the top of the 8th to put the A's up 5-3 which would be the final score. The Cardinals got all 3 runs courtesy of a Kike Hernandez 3 run double in the 5th which tied the game at 3. Ozzie Albies came off the bench in the bottom of the 9th with bases loaded and 2 outs and struck out to end the game.

The Cardinals will remain home as they welcome the struggling Mariners to town for a 3 game series.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

So every year I do a franchise where I completely start a team from the ground up. I pick a team that doesn’t have much prospects or high value players on it, this year I picked Seattle. I then trade every single player on the roster for D potential players. If I run out of D potential players to trade or sign then I just trade for players with 70 potential and lower them to 69 potential (D potential).

After that part is over which can take awhile I have a full 90 man roster with all D potentials on it with my highest overall player being Trevor Plouffe at 72 overall.

A few rules I have for myself-

        1. No trades unless they’re offered to me.
        2. No free agent signings unless they’re D potential.
        3. I can pick one player from rule 5 draft each year.
        4. If someone’s on waivers I can claim them.

I love doing this because it’s of course challenging but also feels really good when you start to have good prospects and start winning. Basically the only way to get better players is through the draft which makes them so important especially during second year where you’ll have the number 1 pick.

Hopefully I’ll get lucky in drafts and have some amazing prospects that will help my franchise get going quickly!

Does this change over the life of the franchise? This gives me a road-to-glory feeling from FIFA when you take a League 2 side up to the Premiership.

Also makes it fun to try and boost D potential up, I'm sure.

I actually love doing that in fifa as well haha.

As for the free agents I forgot to mention that I will sign one or two only if I feel like I can actually go for it all the next year. I don’t really like signing big free agents in any of my franchises so the free agents I sign in this are usually just like bullpen arms or mid rotation starters.

A Chicago Cubs Franchise- The Dynasty Continues

Going into 2019 the Cubs had alot riding onto what would be of the 2019 Chicago Cubs? Is the dynasty over? Will the Cubs get back to their dominant self's in 2019?

The Cubs looked strong coming out of spring training with the addition of newly closer Craig Kimbrel and the return of Brandon Morrow to solidify the back end of the bullpen. The offense looks poised as well to shine this season. The only questions that are yet to answer are who will lead off? Can Javier Baez put in another MVP year and will Kris Bryant get back to his dominant self? With spring training in the books the Chicago Cubs with open the season with these 25 men:

              Starting rotation:
              1. Jon Lester
              2. Yu Darvish
              3. Cole Hamels
              4. Kyle Hendricks
              5. Jose Quintana
              Bullpen:
              Adbert Alzolay
              Steve Cishek
              Carl Edwards Jr
              Randy Rosario
              Brad Brach
              Brandon Morrow
              Pedro Strop
              Craig Kimbrel
              Infielders:
              Willson Contreras-C
              Victor Caratini-C
              Anthony Rizzo-1B
              David Bote-2B
              Daniel Descalso-2B
              Kris Bryant-3B
              Javier Baez-SS
              Outfielders:
              Kyle Schwarber-LF
              Ben Zobrist-LF
              Albert Almora-CF
              Ian Happ-CF
              Jason Heyward-RF

When asked Theo had this to say on if any trades would be made this season or if anyone is on the hot seat. "We really have alot of faith in this team that consistently won 90+ game the last 4 seasons and expect nothing less this season." "If an opportunity presents itself for us to improve this team via trade we won't hesitate to pull that trigger." Theo was also asked about the current status of manager Joe Maddon. "We have been talking with Joe and we have both come to the agreement that this season is a contract year on deciding his future with this organization." "We also know that the past 4 seasons couldn't have happen without his outstanding leadership, and all of that will be considered at the end of the year."

The first month started of great with the Cubs going 20-9 and with an unlikely candidate in Jason Heyward leading off and getting the offense rolling. The starting pitching has been less then stellar starting the year with a combine 4.57 ERA vs the bullpen being lights out with a combine 1.53 ERA.

3 weeks into the season the Cubs had catcher Willson Contreras go down with a broken hand and out for 2 months. With this the cubs called up Francisco Arcia, but have given the workload to Caratini.

After a month into the season the question is what will they do about the poor starting pitching so far? Will they trade to make improvements or will they ride it out in hopes of improvement going forward? Only time will tell so stay tune and find out.

Stabilizing the Ship - A Pittsburgh Pirates Franchise

New GM Not Making Any Friends With Open Letter to Pirates Fans

Pittsburgh, PA - When newly-appointed GM, Brett Gray had his first presser in Pittsburgh last week, he alluded that some fans may not like to hear what he had in his plans for the Pirates for the next few years.

He probably didn't expect fans to be this angry.

                They are.

Fans, or those who could brave the subzero temperatures took to the streets on Federal Street outside PNC Park yesterday afternoon to voice their displeasure with the organization. Gray announced in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette his plan for the next 3-5 years with the Pirates, which included essentially tearing down what Neal Huntington had built, and rebuilding. "I've had dang-near enough of this jack from this ownership. All they did was hire another shill who's going to fulfill their plan of being bargain hunters. I hope folks enjoyed 1979, because I don't think we're seeing another one until at least 2090." said one angry fan. Another added "It started with trading McCutchen and Cole this year, and it's going to turn into trading Marte and Polanco. Well, good for them. I hope they trade everyone. Not because I can't stand the team, but because they deserve a better ownership and management group. All they care about is the bottom line. And that bottom line is going into Seven Springs, not the ballclub, someone should get the MLB on this". The MLBPA is currently investigating the Pirates for previously offseason spending in the Caribbean in the last two offseason on infrastructure improvements at their facilities there, rather than on ML Free Agents."

Brett Gray did come out and speak with some of the displeased fans yesterday. Overall, his message was simple. Yes, we're asking you to be patient, again. Yes, we're going to be subpar for the next few years. Yes, you've heard this all before. But, we are taking this at a completely different angle than we have in the past.

This is a major step in the right direction, in the past, the Pirates would not be as forthcoming with this kind of announcement, and certainly the front office would not be meeting with fans on Federal Street to listen to them voice their concerns. Gray finished his meeting with fans adding that he would be more than happy to schedule monthly "Bucco Updates" with fans if they thought he was kidding about his seriousness of his intentions.

The Pirates head to Pirate City in Bradenton next week for Spring Training, where it's expected that they will be experimenting with a lot of their members of the 40-man roster to see which pieces fit best. With names like Gregory Polanco, Chad Kuhl, and Lonnie Chisenhall out for considerable amounts of time, this will be a great opportunity for the likes of Mitch Keller, Bryan Reynolds, Jason Martin, and others to seize their opportunity.

Had to pause my Mets franchise just shy of the 2020 All-Star Break. Moving out of state and starting a new job all in the next 9 days (not to mention trying to finalize a home purchase and sell my current home) so not sure when I'll be firing The Show back up.

Good luck to you guys plugging away at your franchises!

Is it possible that we could get a franchise section of the forums like the rosters, sliders, sots etc... so that each user can post a thread to document their franchise's progression? That would make it really easy to follow particular people of interest and see how things are going for them.

2019 ALDS Game 1: Red Sox @ Astros (me)

                          Justin Verlander vs. David Price

Wow, did we run into a buzzsaw tonight. In the very first inning the Red Sox scored 5 runs on Verlander. Benintendi and Holt both singled to left which was followed by a 3-run homer by JD Martinez. Pearce doubled home Betts and then Pearce scored on an error by Correa.

                          5-0 Red Sox

After a quiet 2nd inning, Xander Bogaerts hit a two-run homer in the 3rd.

                          7-0 Red Sox

In the 4th inning we started to fight back. Carlos Corre**** a solo home run and then Springer hit a two run homer and things started looking up.

                          7-3 Red Sox

It would be short lived as the Red Sox scored two runs directly after. That would ultimately be the final runs of the game.

Red Sox win Game One 9-3.

This was just one of those games. I knew this was going to be a tough one when I couldnt find the strike zone in the first inning with Verlander. When I did find the strike zone the Sox hit it. That usually found a hole in the defense too. While that was happening we couldn't buy a hit. They take game one but I have no doubt we will fight back in Game 2.

                          Red Sox lead series 1-0

                                Cardinals sweep Mariners

The Cardinals got a much needed sweep over the Mariners to get to 39-34 on the year and stay within 7 1/2 games of the division leading Cubs. Great pitching and timely offense was the catalyst to the series sweep.

Game 1 Jack Flaherty had his best outing since his 2 stints on the IL throwing 7 2/3 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits while fanning 6. Ozzie Albies returned to the lineup after sitting out the Oakland series to try and give the young star a break. He responded going 3 for 4 with 3 RBI's. Juan Fabregas drove in the other two runs in route to the Cards 5-2 victory.

Game 2 would see Austin Gomber have his second straight strong start as Gomber went 7 innings allowing 0 runs on 5 hits and striking out 6. The Cardinals got one lone run, a RBI single by Fabregas but that would be all they needed as Gomber, Zack Burdi, and Roberto Osuna shut down the Mariners offense to preserve a 1-0 victory.

Game 3 saw the return on Carlos Martinez who was good in his first start since April. Martinez would get a no decision but pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up 2 runs on 6 hits. He did issue 4 walks which hurt and only struck out 4. Once again the bullpen held their own as they pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings. The game was tied in the bottom of the 9th until Patrick Wisdom belted his 24th homerun of the season into the left field seats for the walkoff win.

In the series, the bullpen threw 7 scoreless innings, a huge uplift to this club.

The Cardinals will face the division leading Cubs for a 4 game weekend series in Chicago. The Cardinals can either get right back into this race or they can fall significantly behind as the calendar inches close to July.

Cardinals place Mike Mayers on 10 Day IL

The Cardinals have placed RHP Mike Mayers on the 10 Day IL due to a sprained finger. Mayers suffered it on the first batter that he faced yesterday. Mayers has been a rock in the bullpen as he has pitched to a 0.92 ERA thus far.

The Cardinals will recall Pedro Baez from Memphis to take the open roster spot.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(
