Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

The A's announced that they will be opening the 2020 season in their brand new downtown ballpark. All inspections have been completed and the team has been given the go-ahead to start the season in their new park.

Franco Park is the new home of the Oakland Athletics. After over a half a century in the Coliseum, they will finally be saying goodbye to it and beginning a brand new journey in a brand new ballpark just for them.

The Stadium seats just under 20,000 at 19,800. According to inside sources, the A's did this to maximize their average attendance per game. Which was well below what the coliseum held even with the top portion of the stadium tarped off.

we interviewed several of the coaches and players. They are all excited to play in this ballpark.

Here is to a successful run in the new park.

Love this idea. Wonder if there's any classic stadiums that the Jays would look good playing it. Always wanted natural grass and a more outdoor-sy feel in TO.

It is a great idea. But being the Dodgers, there is NO better stadium. Lol

2023 White Sox Franchise - Game 1 ALCS

Game 1 with Omar Salgado on the mound for the White Sox and Dylan Bundy for the O's

White Sox offense comes out early in the bottom of the first with RBI singles by Jose Abreu and Elvis Andrus. 3-0 CWS

Yoenis Cespedes would add another run with his first playoff Homer in the 8th. 4-0 CWS.

More than enough for Chicago pitching led by Cy Young Winner Omar Salgado who went 8 shut out innings.

The NLCS between the Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs is currently tied at 1 a piece.

Cardinals place Brendan McKay on 10 Day IL. Recall Jabari Blash

The Cardinals have placed 1B Brendan McKay on the 10 Day IL due to a strained oblique suffered in yesterday's game versus the Dodgers. McKay left the game in the 4th inning. McKay got off to a porous start to the season, but has been finding his stroke at the plate of late, and had extended his hitting streak to 8 games in the first inning.

Jabari Blash was recalled from Memphis where he had actually lost his starting right field job and was a bench player. Blash played extremely well for the Cardinals in September last year going 7 for 12 with 2 homeruns, a double, and 4 walks versus just 1 strikeout. The Cardinals will hope that he has that same impact the two weeks that McKay is expected to miss.

                MountUrCastle's San Francisco Giants Rebuild

                end of season 2019

The Giants capped off the 2019 season with a 74-88 record, finishing 4th in their division and 7th-last within the MLB. Evan Longoria and Shin-Soo Choo functioned as the "stars" on the team, driving in 20 home runs each and 70 RBI's on the season. Offseason acquisition Kyle Freeland took his potential to the next level as well, having a nigh monstrous season in the Bay, going 16-5 with 217.2 innings pitched, 183 strikeouts, a 2.65 ERA and a 1.13 whip. As the main return within the Posey/Cleveland/Colorado megadeal these results are magnificent, especially given the strength of the Giants this year. It is easily safe to say Freeland is the reason that they performed even relatively close to as they did. Freeland sits just behind Strausburg, Syndergaard, and deGrom in Cy Young voting. Dereck Rodriguez won the Gold Glove for pitchers, while Shin-Soo Choo just barely missed out in the right field category.

                  MountUrCastle's San Francisco Giants Rebuild

                  offseason

                  Retirements

Both Shin-Soo Choo and Gregor Blanco retired, leaving a hole in right field.

                  Re-sign phase
-Re-Signed Tony Watson to a 1 year, 2.8 million dollar deal
-Re-Signed Lucas Duda to a 1 year, 2.6 million dollar deal
-Re-Signed Ben Zobrist to a 1 year, 4.8 million dollar deal (he hit .303 for us!)
-Mike Sciosia was named the next General Manager of the San Francisco Giants.
-Re-Signed Dereck Rodriguez to a 4 year, 4.5 million dollar per year deal
-Re-Signed Kevin Kramer to a 3 year, 1.9 million dollar deal
-Everyone else was renewed/signed to depth contracts.

                  Free Agency
-Signed Kole Calhoun to a 1 year, 5million dollar contract. It was rumored the Giants were interested in bringing in Nicholas Castellanos to fill their RF hole, but didn't want to pay the 15 million he was asking for on the market.
-Signed RF Prospect Darren Lyon to a minor league deal.
-Kendrys Morales, Adam Jones, and Robinson Chirinos walked.
-Star Pitcher Kyle Freeland signed to a 6 year, 9.7 million per year contract.
-Drafted Yimi Garcia in the rule 5 draft.

Overall, a lot of replacement from inside the org this year. Victor Victor Mesa makes the team out of camp as a 4th outfielder/ center fielder versus lefties. Joey Bart platoons with Aramis Garcia. D-Rod and Freeland are at 88 in the top of our order, and we have easily 40 million coming off the books next season.

SP Newcomb wants to stay in the Show

We took 2 of 3 from the D-backs. The thing I wanted to watched for in this series to see how the young SP Newcomb respond to the Keuchel rumor's. Boy did he ever! 7.0IP 5H 0R BB 5K.
The D-backs are equal to my Braves we are both 12-7 after the 3 game set.

Next up the weekend series vs. the Indians. Player to watch is SP Teheran. Love him,but he must respond as equal as Newcomb did or it'll be a tough decision...

I am still baffled about 1B Freeman 0HR thru 19 games. I raked bombs & 2B's with him in 18'....

                        MountUrCastle's San Francisco Giants Rebuild

2020 start + draft + farm system update

The Giants enter the draft with a 25-36 record, placing them 4th in the NL West, 7 games ahead of the Padres, but 8 games back of the Rockies. In another year where it is more than likely the Giants move and sell at the deadline, the duo at the top of the Giants rotation has also been absolutely stellar. D-Rod currently has a 1.76 ERA, far ahead of any competition in the NL, making him an early landslide favourite for the CY Young. Kyle Freeland is having a slump in comparison to his 2019, but has put up a respectable 2.74 ERA with 74 strikeouts. Giants top prospect Jose Aviles (SP) is currently seeing some action in the bullpen where he has also been stellar. Key rookies Victor Victor Mesa and Joey Bart have been struggling offensively, but are staying above water in the defensive side of things.

Right before the draft kicked off, the Giants made a swap of two struggling and relatively old potential players, sending LF Chris Shaw and a minor leaguer to the Phillies for 3b Maikel Franco and SP Adonis Medina. With Evan Longoria swapping to a DH position early in the season, the Giants didn't have any natural 3B on the roster. Shaw and Franco were both struggling, and Franco was buried below Mike Moustakas on the Phillies and their DH of Trey Mancini was not up to snuff. Maikel is a free agent at years end.

                        Draft

The Giants made 6 selections at this years MLB draft, and they swung for the fences on each one.
                        1. SS Walter Saito: Speedy SS with a powerful bat. Potential falls just before stardom, but not just above average either
                        2. CF Rolando Stokes. Unclear if he possesses an MLB future, but the tools are there alongside world-class speed. IF potential is fully reached, he could be the best center-fielder in the game.
                        3. CF Alfonso Jiminez. Similar mold to Stokes. High potential, lot of speed, and noticeable pop in his bat.
                        4. Sp Rafael Trevino. Went unsigned, the GIants took a gamble on a good tournament and he didn't impress in camp.
                        5. SP John Pyle. Velocity, Break, Control and Stamina all MLB level. Still needs massive work on fundamentals.
                        6. RP Korey Toth. Good bet for a rotational depth piece

                        Top Prospects list
                        1. 2B Mariano Perez
                        2. SS Vic Spoone
                        3. Cf Heliot Ramos
                        4. CF Leody Taveras
                        5. SP Johan Ruiz
                        6. SP Jose Aviles
                        7. SS Andres Jiminez
                        8. SS Walter Saito
                        9. CF Rolando Stokes
                        10. LF Cole Roederer
                        11. CF Alfonso Jiminez
                        12. RF Sandro Fabian
                        13. SP Lionel Hamlin
                        14. RF Darren Lyon

well in real life the A's rarely crack 20K per game at home anyway... I almost went with the stadium that had like 10,800 or 9,400. Both of which would have been perfect for and Oakland setting.. but I decided to go with a larger one... who knows the A's may have several stadiums in the greater Oakland area lol.
