Using 5-7 days to discover players and then only scouting individual players for 3 days or so seems like a MUCH more efficient way to do it.
That's how I used to do it to. And would be out of prospects by the second round, maybe third if I was lucky. I don't remember where I saw the original idea for discovery on five days and all that, but once I started doing that, my drafts got so much better. I just altered the concepts of what I was looking for at each position group to fit my preference.
Though I think the biggest tip is look at the projected overall first and foremost, and don't be afraid to scout the high overall with low potential prospects. Very rarely do the 80 potential players stay high after scouting; they almost always seem to fall to at least a 70. But I've had ones who show as something like 60/60 or whatever to begin with, but because I scouted them and found their "true" potential they ended up being like a 60/70 or better
So now I always sort by overall and go from there to determine who I'm scouting.

White Sox Franchise - Offseason 2023

Was a pretty quiet offseason for the Sox. Our only retirement was former closer Nate Jones.

Wasn't much action around the MLB either. Only big signing was DJ LeMahieu going to the Indians.

Tigers made a few trades to get a couple veteran bats, trading a 28 year old SP Prospect Alex Faedo to the Brewers for RF Jorge Soler.

Also trading a 24 year old LF prospect Richard Chester to the Rays for SS Adeiny Hechavarria

Heading into Spring Training the White Sox have put SP Carlos Rodon on the trade block. With #1 overall prospect Andre Simons expected to make the team there isn't any room for Rodon in the rotation and the 6th starter/long reliever spot is held by Peter Sierra.

        Cards finish May 10-17 - .500 overall

After starting the season on a strong note, the Cardinals had poor month of May finishing the month 10-17 and dropping their overall record to 29-29.

Injuries have definitely taken their toll on this club early in the season with their 3 top rotational pieces (Flaherty, Wacha, and Martinez) seeing significant time on the IL. Martinez didn't pitch the entire month (due back mid-late June) and Wacha just being placed on the IL with a shoulder tear that will likely keep him out until near the All-Star break. Jack Flaherty has had 2 separate stints on the IL in the month. The young guys promoted to fulfill these spots haven't performed as needed, with Austin Gomber being atrocious, Dakota Hudson being a year too early, and even Drew Harrington who has been in the rotation is having a poor year thus far. The lone bright spot has been Kyle Funkhouser who is having a tremendous first year in the rotation with a 4-2 record and a sub 3 ERA.

But its been more than injuries and ineffective starting pitching. The bullpen has blown its fair share of games and the offense is been more stagnant than not. The Cardinals just can't seem to get out of their own way right now, and hopefully that will change in the month of June, as they currently sit 6 1/2 back of the red hot Cubs.

Here's hoping to a better month in June and the Cardinals being on the plus side of .500 when its over.

Best team to build up? I just downloaded the trade deadline rosters. Thinking the Jays, Angels or Phillies would be interesting. Each team has a young superstar to build around. Vlad Jr. isn't quite there yet, but with his ratings he will be there soon.

Angels are freaking tough. While they have the best player in baseball, the rest of their roster is pretty bad and they have one of the worst farm systems in baseball. If you really like a challenge, pick them.

The Blue Jay's are definitely interesting. Their best prospects are all coming up to the majors now (Vlad Jr., Biggio, Bichette) and they have some great talent left over in their system. While it might take a while, it could be fun to see them grow.

The Phillies wouldn't take much building. They have the talent to be successful right now.

              Some other suggestions:

Padres - They have some solid major league talent (Manny Machado, Hosmer, Fernando Tatis Jr, etc) to go along with the best farm system in baseball. If you can get them some real pitching help, you could bring them their first World Series championship in the next couple of years.

Mets - Their pitching rotation is extremely talented (deGrom, Syndergaard, Wheeler, and now Stroman) and they have arguably the best young power hitter in the game (Pete Alonso) with some decent talent around him. Your challenge with them will be to build up their mediocre farm system while trying to win now.

I looked at the top prospects list last night. Melvin Rodriguez, my generated 21-year-old CF prospect, is now ranked #1. Going to be fun next season having him and Acuña in the outfield.

MLB the Show 19 - New York Yankees Franchise

                    February 21, 2019

Kicking off Spring Training with a new Yanks franchise. Coming off a disappointing postseason exit against the eventual champion Red Sox in 2018 was painful, but we enter 2019 favored to win the World Series. This team has a very solid core in place bolstered by a few shrewd offseason acquisitions that will hopefully get us over that hump and back into the fall classic.

                    Quick look at the roster:
The starting rotation is mostly set. Severino and Tanaka return, along with offseason acquisitions JA Happ (2 yrs, $34M) and James Paxton (trade from SEA). CC is on the shelf until at least April recovering from offseason knee and heart surgery, so the 5th spot is up for grabs. Luis Cessa, Domingo German, and Jonathan Loaisiga will all get at least a couple starts this spring and are the frontrunners. Cessa is out of options so will have to earn a spot one way or another, he’s almost guaranteed to not pass waivers if not.

The bullpen is potentially the best in the league, as offseason signing and Brooklyn native Adam Ottavino joins Aroldia Chapman, Dellin Betances, Chad Green, and Zack Britton to hold down the late innings. Righties Jonathan Holder and Tommy Kahnle are competing for a middle relief role with some other youngsters behind them as long shot candidates.

My lineup is mostly set, I just need to figure out who will be playing where. Didi Gregorius is out until mid-summer recovering from Tommy John, so shortstop will go either to Gleyber Torres or Troy Tulowitzki. Miguel Andujar will be given the chance to play third as I’d really prefer him fill that role long-term - however his defense is atrocious so if he can’t hold it down he’d be the full-time DH. That would put Stanton in left and push Gardner to the bench in a 4th outfielder role. The newly signed DJ LeMahieu gives me some additional flexibility and will play all 4 infield positions, at least for now.

I’ll probably carry 8 bullpen arms, which leaves my bench short. Austin Romine and Kyle Higashioka will compete for backup catcher duties, while LeMahieu most likely ends up in some sort of infield rotation as opposed to a true bench role. Anything can happen with injuries so it’s good to have options.

                    Top Prospects:

                    #1 OF Estevan Florial
                    #2 RHP Roansy Contreras
                    #3 C Anthony Seigler
                    #4 OF Antonio Cabello
                    #5 OF Josh Stowers
                    #6 RHP Clarke Schmidt
                    #7 RHP Trevor Stephan
                    #8 RHP Jonathan Loaisiga
                    #9 RHP Freicer Perez
                    #10 RHP Chance Adams

Since I always sort the prospects when I go to select one to be scouted, it puts them in the same order. But there appears to be new names at times. Could just easily be a shift in who goes where, but it appears to me they still discover.
And with a high efficiency, those three days I have my scouts focus on one prospect, their bar is almost fully green.
The CPU may give you more half-scouted or slightly scouted possibilities, but I prefer full scouting reports myself. And by selecting them myself, you can look at the grades for each attribute and determine if you want to take a chance on scouting them in the first place. As I said earlier, the starting grades don't really change, so they're a good starting point.
I don't know if you saw one of my earlier posts talking about my latest draft, but that's the kind of haul I brought in just earlier today using this scouting method. And most of my drafts are similar, though not as full of such high potential players like that.
I will do that then. I usually only scouted individual players for two days. I didn't see your haul but I'm going to look for it.
I just had my draft last night and was a little disappointed. Had 19th pick with the Mariners and was deciding between a 80 POT, 65 OVR 2B or a 80 POT, 70 OVR CF. The 2B ended up with 89 POT, 68 OVR. I drafted the CF and he was 81 POT, 71 OVR. I didn't have a very good draft. Two 81 POT guys, three 70's POT guys, and one 87 POT SP who unfortunately has 59 stamina so his future is probably long reliever.

                        Cardinals sweep Brewers

The Cardinals have swept the Brewers in a 3 game series in Milwaukee to remain perfect for the month of June (4-0). The offense found its stroke in Milwaukee as the Cardinals scored 7 runs in game 1 and 6 runs in each of the final 2 games of the series. The bullpen again was shaky during the series but the Cardinals were able to overcome their inconsistencies and keep the ball rolling in the month of June.

The Cardinals will hope this hot streak continues as they head to our nation's capital to square off with the Nationals for a 3 game weekend series.

                        June Schedule:

                        3 @ WSH
                        2 @ MIN
                        3 vs OAK
                        3 vs SEA
                        4 @ CHC
                        2 @ TEX
                        3 vs PIT
1 vs CHC (series concludes in July)

Cardinals claim Felix Hernandez off waivers from A's

The Cardinals have taken a step in improving a starting rotation that has been struck by injuries by claiming SP Felix Hernandez off waivers from the A's.

The 36 year old was activated from the 10 Day IL for an elbow issue, and the A's decided to option him back to AAA, as they have a plethora of talented starting pitchers and they haven't missed a beat with Hernandez out. Hernandez was 4-1 in 10 games this year with a 2.56 ERA and a WHIP of 1.12.

King Felix pitched the last 3 years in Chicago with the Cubs, where he helped them win the World Series last season.

He will immediately take to the mound as he is scheduled to start the series opener against the Nationals in Washington.

Dakota Hudson was optioned down to open up a roster spot for Hernandez.

Luke Weaver on Optional Assignment Waivers

In yet another roster move, the Cardinals have placed RHP Luke Weaver on optional assignment waivers. Weaver who just pitched against Milwaukee, has struggled this year after being a dependable starter last season. It's expected that if Weaver does clear waivers, he will be moved to the bullpen in Memphis where the Cardinals are hoping to utilize him for the rest of the season.

Joe Kelly was recalled to take Weaver's spot on the 25 man roster.

It's still early in my season at this point but Mallex Smith is struggling mightly and everyone else is performing well enough that his struggles are only a small blip to the teams offensive performance. How long do you go before you bench a player that's not performing at the plate? Especially if you have a decent option coming off on bench. I know I'd take a morale hit but that's the way of things. Is it better to just push through or bench the guy for a bit?

I typically don't do anything roster related until after April, aside from injuries of course.

If he's struggling this bad, maybe sit him down for a game or two, or maybe a series and then bring him back. I've done that and had it work. And I've done that and it didn't work so...

                              2019 Astros April Update

We just finished the month of April with a 21-9 overall record, which is currently the best in the AL. We are currently 5.5 games ahead of the Athletics (17-16 record for them).

The injury bug has been a bit of a problem for us early. Gerrit Cole is out with a concussion. Jake Marisnick has a separated shoulder and will be out for 2 months. Myles Straw replaced him and in his second game he tore a ligament in his finger, he will be out 2-3 months. In the minors, our best position prospect, Kyle Tucker, has a broken shin. He will be out for 2 months. SP Rogelio Armenteros has a dislocated shoulder. It will be 1-2 months before he comes back.

With that being said, we have continued to perform extremely well. Here are some hitting stats:

                              Springer - .220/.328/.450, 4 HRs, 17 RBIs
                              Altuve - .307/.363/.605, 8 HRs, 15 RBIs
                              Bregman - .250/.375/.440, 3 HRs, 14 RBIs
                              Brantley - .336/.385/.531, 4 HRs, 12 RBIs
                              Correa - .235/.355/.461, 6 HRs, 13 RBIs
                              Gurriel - .297/.360/.416, 3 HRs, 22 RBIs

                              Kemp - .259/.286/.407, 1 HR, 4 RBIs
                              Fisher - .125/.125/.375, 0 HRs, 3 RBIs

Altuve is performing like an MVP so far this season. Brantley and Chirinos have been great additions to this team. We're close to the lead in walks as a team, which is very rare for me. We lead the league in doubles and home runs, which isn't very surprising.

                              Pitchers:

                              Verlander - 5-0, 2.14 ERA, 66 K
                              McHugh - 5-0, 1.78 ERA, 34 K
                              Cole - 2-0, 1.64 ERA, 34 K
                              McCullers Jr. - 1-2, 4.15 ERA, 28 K
                              Peacock - 1-1, 4.02 ERA, 31 K

                              Devenski - 2-1, 6.53 ERA, 20 K
                              Smith - 2-1, 2.92 ERA, 13 K
                              Harris - 1-0, 0.00 ERA, 8 K
                              Rondon - 1-0, 9.00 ERA, 5 K
                              Miley - 1-1, 2.87 ERA, 10 K
                              Osuna - 0-1, 4.15 ERA, 11 K, 11 saves
                              Pressly - 0-1, 2.81 ERA, 16 K

The surprise of the year so far is McHugh. His incredible start has been great for our rotation, especially with McCullers' struggles so far. Osuna has 2 blown saves but he is still tied for the major league lead with 11 saves. Will Harris and Hector Rondon's stats are a little off because of the AI's terrible use of setup men.

As we have made our way through the early part of the season some holes are starting to show themselves. I'm going to give Tyler White a little bit longer as a possible DH option but if he doesn't pick it up, I will DFA him. AJ Reed has a .318 average with 6 home runs and 23 RBIs in AAA. I can't keep him down there for much longer.

We will also need to look into another starting pitcher. Every time I use McCullers he struggles to make it past the 5th inning. We do have some great pitching talent in AAA right now, but I would hate to go to a young guy in the rotation when we expect to make a deep run in the playoffs this year.

Sidenote: Yordan Alvarez is hitting .290 with 3 HRs and 17 RBIs in AAA. He will most likely make an impact for me this year. Our #1 pitching prospect, Forrest Whitley. is 2-1 with a 3.13 ERA and 36 Ks in 6 games for our AAA team so far this season. I don't know if I want to pull the trigger on him this season yet, but he will definitely alleviate some of the pain of possibly losing Gerrit Cole next offseason.

I don't make any roster moves until at least the end of April usually myself. I will move players around in the lineup at least once a week depending on cold/hot streaks. And if someone is really struggling, they will be sat for a day or two, maybe a series if I have a viable option on the bench to switch too. It's seemed to work so far, at least as much as it could be considered working for my crappy team lol
