Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

I just won a game I had no business winning. I was so bad. Pablo Lopez of Miami was perfect against me for 10 innings as I swung at everything and just sucked. MadBum traded zeroes for 9 innings when I relieved him in the tenth. Well Miami sent Lopez out for the 11th to preserve his perfecto with only 90 pitches thrown. I somehow ran into a 2-1 fastball with Brandon Belt to go ahead for good, closing it out easily with my dude Will Smith to improve to 28-26 in my first year.

Marlins land Buster Posey on one year deal

The Marlins have landed C Buster Posey on a one year $10M deal. Posey for the first time in his career be playing in something other than a Giants uniform.

Posey hit .299 last year with 19 homeruns and 79 RBI's.

The Marlins had a need at catcher and didn't waste anytime fulfilling that need.

      Yankees land Jeremy Ortiz

The Yankees have landed easily the most desired free agent on the market by landing OF Jeremy Ortiz. The Yankees signed Ortiz to a 9 year $279M deal.

Ortiz hit .311 last year with 32 homeruns and 97 RBI.

Ortiz has spent his entire career with the A's and was a vital component in helping the A's when the World Series 3 years ago and get back to the World Series last year.

The Yankees who are experiencing an uncharacteristically long postseason drought (8 years), are taking the first steps to being not only postseason contenders but also contenders to win the AL East and the AL pennant.

Now the Cardinals will have to search the market to find more depth, or possibly explore the trade market.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

Just days ago the 2019 Giant's reached their high water mark at 27-23. Then Mike Yazstremski our leadoff man and best hitter took a flyball off his dome and went on the 10-day IL with a head contusion. Instantly my offense went in the tank. We have lost 5 of 6 and the team batting average fell from .254 to .244 in those 6 games. We now sit at 28-28, 13.5 games back of the Dodgers at the end of May and it feels like it's impossible to score runs now. Pitching has been solid with a 3.99 ERA but can't be perfect every night with no run support. It is painfully clear the lack of any great hitter in the Giant's lineup is a huge problem. There are just too many easy outs in my lineup and many of them are high paid guys with multi years left on their contracts. I'm in quite a disposition here as I just can't see this team getting on a long hot streak. Considering making an early trade to get a middle of the order hitter. This game is very hard with a mediocre lineup. You guys got any suggestions? Otherwise looks like tough it out until the deadline and asses needs then.

Cardinals re-sign Jack Flaherty to one year deal avoiding arbitration

The Cardinals and SP Jack Flaherty agreed to a one year $9M deal avoiding arbitration. Flaherty has one year of team control left and the two sides agreed to this deal to avoid arbitration and agreed to see how Flaherty does this season before discussing a longer contract. The 28 year old has made it known that he would like to test free agency next offseason.

Flaherty went 15-9 last year with a 4.09 ERA and 165 innings pitched, as he was shelved a few times over the season for injuries. 164 strikeouts was his lowest total since he became a staple in the rotation, aside from the 2021 season that saw him miss most of the season and only appear in 16 games, 11 of those being starts.

This gives the Cardinals 4 solid rotational pieces with Flaherty, Funkhouser, Martinez, and Wacha. They are on the search for a 5th starter, preferably a lefty. A few are on the market, but the asking price is more than the Cardinals are willing to pay.

Cardinals and Funkhouser agree to multi-year deal

Fresh off a year where he probably should've won the Cy Young and was the Game 1 pitcher in the postseason for the Cardinals, Kyle Funkhouser and the Cardinals have agreed to a 6 year $60M deal with a mutual option for the final year.

30 year old Funkhouser finished last season with 20 wins (20-4) and was arguably the best pitcher in baseball last year, despite not taking home any hardware. Funkhouser has been slowly developed thru the Cardinals organization and even when times were shaky at best, the Cardinals never gave up on the right hander. And that probably paid off, for both, as while still under team control for 5 more years, the Cardinals agreed to a long term deal with a significant increase in annual salary, and Funkhouser agreed to the long term contract at a discounted rate compared to what he could've gained on an open market. The deal will keep Funkhouser in St.Louis thru his age 35 season with a mutual option for a 6th year. The Cardinals could've been sticklers and kept Funkhouser for a lot less money, but not only would that be highly unfair, it would have been downright unethical.

Funkhouser, despite being in a rotation with Wacha and Martinez, is expected to be the Opening Day starter for the 2024 season.

Giants actively building a World Series contending team in 2024

The Giants have been the most active and have made the biggest signings thus far in free agency this offseason. It started with them signing the best left handed reliever on the market in Sean Gilmartin, but now the Giants have added starting pitchers Jose Berrios and Amir Garrett, top catcher on the market, Chance Sisco, and just landed probably the biggest market piece in SS Francisco Lindor.

The Giants infield now consists of:

                    1B - Freddie Freeman
                    2B - Miguel Gomez
                    SS - Francisco Lindor
                    3B - Kris Bryant

If the Giants can address their bullpen a bit more as well as right field, we could easily be looking at a team that isn't just going to contend for the postseason, but the World Series championship next October.

                      2019 Detroit Tigers Franchise

After a rough 2018 Season, the Tigers look towards the future as the rebuild continues in Detroit. They brought in a lot of veterans, such as former Pirates 2B Josh Harrison and SS Jordy Mercer, and journeymen starters RHP Tyson Ross and former Rays prospect LHP Matt Moore to help bridge the gap for the prospects. A lot of questions surround this team: Will they trade Nick Castellanos? Is Shane Greene also on the block? Will Miguel Cabrera rebound from a torn bicep that ended his 2018 Season? All these questions will soon be answered as the Tigers prepare for the 2019 Season.

                      RHP Michael Fulmer
                      LHP Matthew Boyd
                      RHP Jordan Zimmermann
                      RHP Tyson Ross
                      LHP Matt Moore

                      Bullpen

                      LHP Daniel Norris

                      LHP Blaine Hardy
                      SU: RHP Joe Jimenez
                      Closer: RHP Shane Greene

Spring Training was quite the eventful one as the Tigers finished with a 11-17 record, starting with a win over Boston in the first game, and losing to Tampa Bay. Niko Goodrum lead the charge ad he lead the team with 6 HRs and 17 RBI, and Nicholas Castellanos wasn't too far behind as he had 5 HRs with 12 RBI, and Miguel Cabrera hit .260 with 4 HRs and 10 RBI. Mikie Mahtook was on a tear as he hit .320 with 5 HRs and 14 RBI which leon to him winning the starting CF job over OF JaCoby Jones. On the pitching side, Michael Fulmer went 2-2 with a 3.46 ERA, and had 17 Ks. Shane Green went 0-2 with an 2.50 ERA, and went 7/8 in Saves. Dawel Lugo struggled as he could only muster a .198 AVG, and was sent to Minor League Camp. Rule 5 Selection RHP Reed Garrett showed flashes, but more often than not shelled in Spring Training, and was sent back to the Rangers. OF Dustin Peterson was a pleasant surprise as he hit .275, with 3 HRs which lead to him earning a spot on the Opening Day Roster. The Tigers were packed up and off to Toronto as they prepare for the 2019 Season.

The Tigers were filled with excitement as the 2019 Season was ready to begin Michael Fulmer was set to make his 2nd career Opening Day Start, and Toronto were sending their Ace Marcus Stroman to oppose them.

Michael Fulmer was on his game as he pitched 8 strong innings, with 13 Ks. Niko Goodrum picked up where he left off as he hit his 1st HR, and Mikie Mahtook and Christin Stewart also homered, and Shane Greene shut the door earn his 1st save to seal the victory in the Season opener, 6-4.

Game 2 was no different as Matthew Boyd went 7 innings with 7Ks, and Nicholas Castellanos came up big in the 7th with a 3 Run Double as Detroit ended up winning 11-5.

Game 3 was more of the same as Jordan Zimmermann was back to his old self as he pitched 6 innings, and the Tigers took game 3, 7-3.

Game 4 was also more of the same as Tyson Ross pitch 8 innings, and the Tigers swept the Blue Jays as the they won, 2-0, with Joe Jimenez getting his 1st Save.

Little did they know that their trip to New York was going to lead to a brutal, and heart breaking slide, as they were swept in New York, and lost a Franchise record 16 games, which included a loss in the home opener against the Royals with Aldaberto Mondesi hitting a gut punching 3-Run HR as the Royals won that game 5-2, a heart breaking extra inning loss to Cleveland with Francisco Lindor hitting a 3-run Homer off a tired Daniel Stumpf, which lead to a 5-4 loss, and 11-2 loss to Chicago extended it to a Franchise record 16 losses in a row.

Thankfully, the losing skid ended at 16 games as the Tigers were able to avoid the sweep as they defeated the White Sox, 8-0.

Since then, they loss the series in Boston, and Philadelphia, but were able to rebound against the White Sox. They were able to take 1 game against Houston, and were able to take 2 out of 3 against Kansas City.

With a record of 17-29, the Motor City Kitties are currently in a 4 game series with Oakland.

Who's Hot: Niko Goodrum has been tearing the cover off the ball, as he currently has a .335 Avg, with 4 HRs, 19 RBI, and 6 SBs. Nicholas Castellanos has been hitting just as well, as he is 2nd on the team with 16 RBI, but has yet to hit a HR. Christin Stewart has been impressive as he's hitting .280, with 4 HR, and 13 RBI. Michael Fulmer has been the true definition of an Ace, with a 5-3 record 3.80 ERA , and an AL leading 83 Ks. Joe Jimenez has been lights out out of the pen as he has settled in as the 8th inning guy. After struggling to start the year, Joe has rebound with a 2.20 ERA, but he does have a 1-3 record, and has blown 3 of his 6 save Opportunities. Shane Green has been dominant on the mound. Although he is 0-1 (due to giving up a tie breaking solo HR to Carlos Santana in the 3-2 loss to Cleveland), he has posted a 1.50 ERA, and is 8/8 in Save Opportunities.

Who's Not: Miguel Cabrera, who has been dealing with knee issues, and still recovering from a torn bicep, is only hitting .217, but has 2 HRs to go with 12 RBI. Dustin Peterson was unable to keep it going as he struggled at the plate, with a .172 avg, and was sent down to Triple A Toledo to get more seasoning. (OF/1B Brandon Dixon was recalled to replace Peterson.) Matt Moore hasn't had a season to write home about, as he has a record of 0-5, with an ERA of 6.20, and recently went down in his last start as he damaged cartilage in his left knee while attempting to cover 1st base (RHP Spencer Turnbull has since taken his spot in the Rotation)

With the Tigers attempting to take 3 out of 4 against Oakland, they are preparing to face Miami as former Tigers fan favorite Curtis Granderson and the Marlins come to Motown for a 3 game series.

What the rebuild in full effect, what does the future hold for Motor City Kitties? Does Nicholas Castellanos get traded? Does Shane Greene get sent packing too? What about Michael Fulmer? Is his time in Detroit about to come to an end? The future holds the answers to all these questions as the Tigers season will be quite a long and winding road.

Hope everybody enjoyed this. My brother and I have taken turns playing each game. We're doing it as a tribute to my sister, who lost her battle with breast cancer in March of this year.

Until we meet again, thank you and good night.

                          2019 Detroit Tigers Franchise

Just finished the 4th game with Oakland, and it was quite the disappointment. Jordan Zimmermann pitched 6 innings of 2-run ball, but with his pitch count at 97, and running on fumes, he was taken out. Spencer Turnbull came in, and shut them down in the 8th. After being unable to come through in bottom of the 8th, Turnbull came back on the mound. He then gave up 2 base hits, and Matt Olson was in a great position. Turnbull was able to get the count to 0-2, but Olson wouldn't go down for the count.

With the count at 3-2, Grayson Greiner called for a 2 seam low and away, and that turned out to be a mistake as Olson crushed an opposite field 3-Run Homer to give the A's a 3-2 lead. Blake Treinen then had a 1-2-3 bottom of the 9th to give the A's a split in the series.

With a league worst 16-30 record, the Tigers didn't have time dwell on that loss as the floundering Miami Marlins, who were on a 5 game skid were coming to Comerica.

The Matchup was Tyson Ross against Pablo Lopez. Former Tiger fan favorite Curtis Granderson came up to the plate, and was greeted with a standing ovation as Granderson acknowledged the Tiger faithful by removing his helmet and raising it in the air. He then hit a 93 mph fastball into the right field seats to give Miami an early 1-0 lead. Pablo Lopez did have it any better as he has trouble putting guys away. Zimmermann once again got burned on 4 seamer, as Brian Anderson crushed it 340 feet to give Miami a 2-0 lead. In the home half of the 6th, Josh Harrison was hit by a pitch, which gave Nicholas Castellanos a chance to do some damage. It was then that Harrison stole 2nd to get himself into scoring position, and Castellanos then hit a double to get Detroit on the board. In the bottom of the 8th, Josh Harrison once again got on base, and this time, and after a pop out from Castellanos, Niko Goodrum was able to get a base hit to put runners on 1 st and 3rd with 1 out for Miguel Cabrera. Miggy came through in the clutch with a Sacrifice fly to tie the game 2-2. It was Jeimer Candelario coming through with a 2 run double to give the Tigers a 4-2 lead. Shane Greene struck out one, got O'Grady to pop out, and managed to get Curtis Granderson to fly out to earned his 9th Save, and were able to get the Tigers their 17th victory of the Season.

Players of note: OF Mikie Mahtook has been on a roll since the start of May, leading the Team with 7 HRs to go with 18 RBIs. Niko Goodrum is in the top 5 in AVG., posting a .335 avg to go with his 4 HRs.

Trade Rumors: The Giants and the Braves have shown interest in Nicholas Castellanos, while ATL has also shown interest in Shane Greene. On a interesting note. The Cubs did offer a trade to Detroit: The Cubs offered SS Addison Russell for RHP Beau Burrows, but Tigers GM Al Avila respectfully declined, as he didn't want to deal with the baggage that Russell comes with.

Game 2 sees Daniel Norris taking the mound, with Miami sending Jose Uréna to oppose them in Game 2 of this 3 Game Series.

I have an opportunity to get out of Evan Longoria's bad contract and acquire a legit cleanup hitter. Longo has been in that lineup spot for me and has been miserable at .234 6hrs 20rbi through 59 games. We have fallen to 28-31 after being swept in consecutive series. The Twins will give up Max Kepler for Longo, "A" Steven Duggar and "B" Andrew Suarez. This could potentially save my season and can certainly turn the direction of my franchise around. What are your thoughts guys?

I would go for it. Kepler is would be a huge pickup, and you would finally get rid of that horrid contract.

Yes this would be awesome for me. But I don't see how it works for the cpu. I guess I just need to get over that and pull the trigger.
