Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

i have a question about the game because i’m new and i only got it from playstation plus.

i started a pirates franchise and in the first game i was playing around the 8th inning my starting pitcher gave up a home run so i pulled him and put in kyle crick. i thought he would be able to finish the game but i had to take him out when he was supposed to bat and put in someone else to pinch hit. then in the ninth inning i couldn’t put in any other pitchers and my pinch hitter had to end the game. is this because i put the closer in during the 8th inning and if so when do you guys pull out your starting pitcher? i played the cpu who played 3 or 4 pitchers and if i hit a homer they would pull their guy so that’s why i pulled mine. please give me some tips i don’t know a lot about baseball or this game

It seems you experienced some user error. I recommend watching more real baseball to familiarize yourself with the game. Learn the strategy and then employ it in The Show. The gameplay of The Show can offer a really fun simulation experience if you know baseball.

Depending on a lot of variables such as who your starter is, his stamina, I would recommend watching your starters energy level, pitch count and the current batter match up. I normally get 6 or 7 innings from my starters, sometimes less and sometimes more.

When replacing your SP (starting pitcher) take a moment to see what your batting order is coming up your next turn at bat...is the SP in the next 3 to 5 batters, think about a double switch. After pitch hitting remember to go to the bullpen when it tells you, you have a position player on the mound, and replace him with a RP (relief pitcher) or make your double switch.

If you start an inning with a position player on the mound accidently, the position player has to face at least one batter before you can replace him with a RP.

MLB THE SHOW 17 - 2017 SEASON - SPRING TRAINING - GAME 6 at MIL

CIN SP Anthony DeSclafani vs MIL SP Matt Garza

SP Anthony DeSclafani started against the Brewers and continued with his second strong Spring Training start, going 3 scoreless innings. But, rookie SP Robert Stephenson gave up a run in his 2 innings of relief work. MIL would lead 1-0 through 8 innings.

In the top of the 9th, after MIL's RF ? mistimed a dive on a ball C Ryan Hanigan hit to the outfield and it rolled to the wall, Hanigan was able to leg it all the way to third base. Absolutely exhausted from all that running and being a catcher, Manager Bryan Price took pity on Hanigan, and put OF Hernan Iribarren in to pinch run for him. RF Jay Bruce popped up to 2B. So with one out and a runner at third, 1B Adam Duvall lifts one to right field, Iribarren breaks for home and scores, tying it 1-1. Wait! They say he jumped too soon and left the bag early! MIL C Manny Pina throws to 3B, OUT!!! Inning over, game over? REDS LOSE 0-1.

REDS are now 3-3, have the next two games against the Cubs. First one at home, then the second away.

REDS are now batting .201. THIS SUCKS!

MLB THE SHOW 17 - 2017 SEASON - SPRING TRAINING - GAME 7 vs CHC

CIN SP Matt Belisle vs CHC SP Jake Arrieta

SP Matt Belisle is trying his best to make it out of Spring Training as a starter in the REDS rotation. Belisle had another decent outing, only giving up 1 RUN in 3 innings of work. CHC 1B Anthony Rizzo took Belisle deep in the 2nd to give the CUBS a 1-0 lead. With how bad CINCY'S bats have been struggling, I would not be surprised if the CUBS thought they had this one wrapped up early.

But REDS C Devin Mesoraco tied things up, 1-1, in the bottom of the 4th with his own HR off SP Jon Lester who came in relief. Then the REDS pushed another across in the 5th to take the lead 2-1.

Then the REDS pitching staff did thier job, as they have been doing Spring Training by shutting the door on the CUBS to win the first of two by a score of 2-1.

The REDS are now 4-3 and playing a rematch at the CUBS tomorrow.

The REDS cracked the sub .200 BA with a .195, only beating the Phillies who are a league worst BA .188, JEEZ!

Cardinals sign Patrick Corbin to one year deal

The Cardinals have signed LHP Patrick Corbin to a one year deal and he will join the team at Spring Training and compete for the 5th spot in the rotation along with fellow lefty Drew Harrington, and right handers Dakota Hudson, Junior Fernandez and Ryan Helsley.

Patrick Corbin went unsigned in the offseason and was expected to potentially retire after missing almost all of last season with a torn rotator cuff. But Corbin has expressed desire to take another shot at pitching again and the Cardinals who are desperately searching for a left handed starter were quick to make him an offer. Corbin will earn $1.8M this season.

The Cardinals rotation has 4 spots locked down with Kyle Funkhouser, Michael Wacha, Carlos Martinez, and Jack Flaherty holding those spots. The problem is that all 4 are right handed and the Cardinals just don't feel the consistency is there from Drew Harrington this Spring. In fact, manager Mike Matheny stated that if camp broke today that Junior Fernandez would hold the 5th rotation spot. But the Cardinals still have a 2 weeks left this spring to see if Corbin can be effective after his injury last year.

Corbin started 5 games last year for the Diamondbacks going 2-0 with a 3.43 ERA in 37 innings pitched. Two years ago Corbin pitched over 200 innings for the D'Backs and 197 innings prior to that.

Corbin is expected to start against Detriot, the Cardinals next game where he will be limited to 30 pitches or 3 innings. His next start his limitation will increase to 60 pitches (no inning restriction) and then his 3rd start he will be at 80 pitches. This is the same limitation the Cardinals staff does for all its starters over the course of the Spring.

                Corbin shines in spring debut

Patrick Corbin made his spring debut for the Cardinals against the Tigers yesterday, after being signed to a one year deal.

Corbin who missed most of last year with a torn rotator cuff, threw 3 innings of scoreless baseball, allowing just one hit, one walk and striking out 5.

Corbin is competing with fellow lefty Drew Harrington, and right handers Junior Fernandez, Ryan Helsley, and Dakota Hudson for the 5th spot in the Cardinals rotation.

Speaking of Harrington, he took over for Corbin in the 4th and went 4 innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits, 1 walk and 7 strikeouts, in his attempt to showcase to the staff that he's the right pick for the 5th rotation spot.

The Cardinals will face Atlanta next, and Junior Fernandez will get the start and will be on a 60 pitch limit.

Hey guys I noticed something in my franchise last night and I was wondering if I could get your opinions on if it is about to crash or not. I am in offseason number 3 I believe and there are some teams that have an alarming number of big contracts. The As just signed Wilson Contreras and Andrew Benintendi to contracts that will see $40m+ paid in the final year just two years after signing Gerrit Cole to massive contract. They will need to pay both Matt Chapman and Matt Olson in 2 years as well and both are 99ovr. The Red Sox just signed 3 more guys at $150m+ contracts. The Astros.....man I am really curious about the Astros. They have their normal guys from this years real life team and then they added Javier Baez in free agency Jose Berrios in this free agency. So they have some MAJOR payroll to deal with and Yordan is a 99ovr free agent in 2 years.

Sorry that was a long paragraph there. With that being said should I expect to see any issues given all of these big contracts that are on these teams?

No, I wouldn't expect that you'll see issues. You may see some of those big contracts traded away at some point, or if they have been successful in the past 2 years of your franchise, they have the finances to carry those contracts.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

Started a franchise on MLB 18 last year and carried it over for the first time. I only have one game left, and it is definitely the last game of the season because it is game 7 of the World Series. I play on hall of fame mode, it's been a crazy season I have lots of fun playing it. Postseason has been so intense. I play as the Red Sox, going against the Cubs in the WS. Took the first two at home, lost 3 at Wrigley - including one where I embarrassingly blew a 6-0 lead and lost 10-9 leaving the tying run on base in the 9th. I was able to win game 6 in a walk off, second walk off win of the series (game 1 was a walk off too).

I swear it gets me yelling at the TV as if I'm watching a real game. I've had several come from behind wins throughout the postseason. Twice against the Astros in the ALCS I was down all game and made comebacks in the 7th inning or later. Such a gratifying feeling to win that way.

I really hope I win Game 7, or I'm going to feel like none of this was worth it.

My experience has been the opposite.

For about half of my current franchise run (working through my 12th season right now), making trades was incredibly difficult with the majority of the league because teams had zero budget to work with. Often high-level free agents would linger unsigned because no teams could afford them. It wasn't until guys started retiring that things got back to normal (and a handful of those "retirements" were induced by editing aging players who were getting paid eight figures to sit in the minors; make the attributes low enough, and they'll call it quits and come off the books).

Computer-controlled teams in this game don't have the ability to assess long-term financial situations and decide if those big free agents are smart signings. Seems more like, "We can afford this now, and he's an upgrade over our existing guy we're already locked into paying several million/year for another four years, so let's sign him." Sometimes that works out. Often it doesn't. And when it doesn't, those teams don't have the ability to make smart decisions to work around it. One of my two biggest gripes with the game (the other being prospect generation/scouting/drafting). I'd love the ability to turn user control on/off after starting a franchise to help fix some of that (and just generally play other franchises without having to start off with user control turned on to start).

I'm in my 9th season of a carryover save that started in '16 and I haven't run across any issues with the CPU controlled teams maxing their budget to the extent that they handicap themselves. The roster building last year and then again this year has been the best of the series.

The one thing that I do see is some good free agents sitting in free agency and not being picked up, but this isn't due to finances but rather the roster limitation. The CPU will value draft picks and developing those players versus signing an aging vet to fill a spot. I truly believe that when they expand the rosters to 100 or 125, then this issue will resolve itself as the CPU will still have the ability to place draft picks/prospects in the lower minors and develop them.

there has always been ONE GLARING thing on team accomplishments that has haunted me and that I have come fairly close to capturing since it was implemented.

that being "score 20 runs in a game". this has always been one of my more lofty goals in this game. Finally, after all these seasons I am glad to say that the box is checked off.

In this same game, I went back to back to back to back in the first inning of the game.

I still have a long way to go in my 2020 season. I plan on getting it and all the postseason complete by the day this game drops next March.

I should have had this done a long time ago. considering I had over 6 months to accomplish this. however, my brain wanted to catch up on tv shows and movies and more tv shows. and of course RL baseball.

ow that I am back playing on rookie and having a blast with the game once again I am getting in at least one game per day now. my goal now is too just make it to the all-star break.

I am trying to get in a series per day but that seems to be a lofty goal right now.

Started up a 1987 Braves franchise using Armors OP settings with quick counts. Probably sim every other game in reg season. Here is first 2 episodes on youtube. See if I can match IRL , and build Braves into 90s powerhouse. Also using classic stadiums for proper teams to start, and unis ofcourse.

Projecting the Cardinals 25 man roster for Opening Day

As Spring Training enters the home stretch here is the projected 25 man roster for the Cardinals for Opening Day:

                                ROTATION

                                Kyle Funkhouser
                                Michael Wacha
                                Carlos Martinez

Patrick Corbin/Drew Harrington (Corbin has slight edge but Harrington is pitching well)

*many thought going into spring that Devon Snow would be the 2nd catcher, but Knizner had an outstanding spring whereas Snow struggled. Snow will open as starting catcher in Memphis*

Other than Harrington and Corbin battling for the 5th rotation spot, barring injury the Cardinals are set on their 25 man Opening Day roster.

The only other changeup could be that the Cardinals move Tommy Pham and go with either Dylan Carlson or Jose Adolis Garcia as the 5th outfielder. As it stands now, Garcia will be in left and Carlson in center at Memphis to open the season.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(
