MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

    Career Milestone:

25 year old RHP Jon Duplantier recieved his first ever major league start for the Diamondbacks. Duplantier lasted 2.1 innings giving up 6 runs on 7 hits, highlighted by back to back Bellinger-Muncy home runs in the 1st. The Dodgers would go on to win the game 10-4, with Walker Buehler earning his 4th win of the season

The 2020 Postseason is here! Mets and Cubs finished tied for the best record in baseball 115-47, but New York gets the top seed thanks to a 4-3 regular-season advantage over Chicago.

Mets will play the Phillies for the 2nd straight year in the NLDS, as the Phils dispatched of the Nationals in the Wild Card (same thing happened in 2019). Cubs take on the Dodgers in the other matchup.

In the AL, Seattle bested the Yankees in the Wild Card, and will face the Angels, while the Red Sox and Indians square off.

MLB THE SHOW 19 - 2019 REGULAR SEASON

THE REDS left PIT feeling good as they took 3 outta 4 against the Pi-RATS. With their bellies full on Primanti Brothers famous sandwiches, they were heading home for a days rest and then a 3 game set against the Miami Marlins. Derek Dietrich would be facing his old team for the first time since Miami D.F.A. him last November. And with RF Yasiel Puig serving a 2 game suspension, Derek is sure to see some action.

REGULAR SEASON - GAMES 11 THRU 13 vs MIA

        REDS REGULAR SEASON RECORD: 6-4

        GAME 1 vs MIA:
CIN SP Luis Castillo vs MIA SP Trevor Richards

SP Castillo would be taking the mound for the third time this season, with 1-1 record and and ERA just a tick above 1.00 and was looking to continue the nice little roll THE REDS have been on.

Castillo would get some support from THE REDS bats early, THE REDS would score 2 in the 1st, 3 in the 2nd and tack on 1 more in the 3rd. Miami would pull SP Richards after pitching just 1 and 2/3 innings. Miami's bullpen would eventually quiet THE REDS, not allowing any more runs after the 3rd.

But this would not matter as SP Castillo pitched a complete game SHUT OUT. His first of the season. His record improves to 2-1, with an ERA of 0.40. THE REDS are 7-4.

Dietrich went 0-3, but did have an RBI.

        GAME 2 vs MIA:
CIN SP Tyler Mahle vs MIA SP Caleb Smith

SP Tyler Mahle who is still looking for his first win toes the rubber for THE REDS in Game 2. Mahle who has been pitching well, but lack of run support has kept him from getting a W in his last 2 starts.

And things would not change in this game as Mahle pitched 8 scoreless innings, taking a NO-NO into the 8th before giving up a bloop single on a check swing into left field. THE REDS would score 3 RUNS in the bottom of the 8th to put Mahle in line for the WIN.

BUT, BIG BUT! And I can not lie! Manager David Price made a mistake when he brought in CP Raisel Iglesias in the 9th inning. Iglesias was 3 for 4 in CLOSE opportunities although they were some iffy outtings, BLEW the SAVE and Mahle's chance of a WIN. Iglesias allowed 3 RUNS to score, tying it 3-3.
THE REDS were able to score 1 RUN in the bottom of the 9th to preserve the WIN. Score 4-3. Iglesias gets the BLOWN SAVE and the WIN.

        GAME 3 vs MIA:
CIN SP Sonny Gray vs MIA SP Jose Urena

SP Sonny Gray and THE REDS head into Game 3 looking for the series sweep. THE REDS found their groove again early, poor Mahle, they scored 2 in the 1st, 2 in the 2nd and 3 in the 3rd. They chase SP Urena out of the game after 2 and 1/3 inning. But unlike the first game they kept scoring, plating a total of 11 RUNS. SP Gray pitched 6 scoreless and was pulled due to a high pitch count. CP Iglesias would not find his way into this game, but RP Amir Garrett would have 2 RUNS score against him because of an error committed by RP Michael Lorenzen who was playing 2nd base. Yep! you read it correctly, Lorenzen played LF, CF, RF and 2nd after coming in in the 4th. And of course his error would allow a couple runs to score. But THE REDS hung on to WIN 11-2.

        REDS REGULAR SEASON RECORD: 9 - 4

THE REDS are tied with CHC (8-3) for 1st place in the NL CENTRAL. They have the next day off as they travel to Mexico, where they will play STL in a 2 game match-up. THE REDS will call up OF Phillip Ervin as they get to expand to a 26 MAN roster for this series.

        INJURY NOTES:

2B Scooter Gennett was put back onto the 10 day IL as his groin injury does not seem to be getting any better.

SP Alex Wood, who has not pitched since coming over from the LAD, is still suffering from lower back pains, no ETA for his return.

2B/CF Nick Senzel is still nursing an ankle injury he suffered in AAA Louisville Bats.

        MINOR LEAGUE NOTES:

AAA Louisville BATS went 0 - 3 @ Columbus Clipper, they are now 1-6

        and

AA Chattanooga LOOKOUTS are in a 5 game series at the Jackson Generals.

Cardinals acquire Stephen Piscotty from Royals

The Cardinals and Royals have agreed to a trade that will re-unite Stephen Piscotty with the Cardinals. The Cardinals will be sending over 3B prospect Harrison Murdock.

The Cardinals get Stephen Piscotty back who will likely be the everyday left fielder with Juan Fabregas being out for the year with a torn MCL. Dylan Carlson, Jose Adolis Garcia, and Oscar Mercado each had their chances to fulfill the every left field job, but none were consistent enough. Oscar Mercado is no longer with the Cardinals as he was placed on Optional Assignment Waivers and claimed by the Red Sox. Jose Adolis Garcia has been optioned back to the minors and Dylan Carlson will serve as 4th/5th outfielder off the bench.

Stephen Piscotty comes to St.Louis hitting .290 with 4 homeruns and 30 RBI's in limited action with the Royals where he was primarily the 4th outfielder and at times DH'd. He will likely hit 6th in the lineup and provide a bat that can drive in runs and re-store the "danger" in the middle of the order that was lost when Fabregas went down.

The Royals will get 3B Harrison Murdock who the Cardinals were high on, but have depth at 3B and he was blocked by Patrick Wisdom, Nolan Gorman, and Malcolm Nunez. The Royals will dump about $5M from their books with this trade and get a versatile infielder with a terrific glove and average bat with decent pop.

            8 June 2020:

Dodgers finished a 3 game sweep of the Diamondbacks with scores of 10-4, 2-1 and 5-4. Ross Stripling has yet another poor outing in game 3 giving up 4 runs off 9 hits in 5 innings. Stripling had a great start to the season, maintaining a 7-2 record but has watched his ERA slowly creep higher to 3.10.

After an off day the Dodgers will host the Rockies for 2 games.

            Injury News:

Dodgers add yet another player to the 60 Day IL as Oklahoma City SS Willi Castro suffered a torn MCL.

Tulsa closer, Joe Broussard, returned to the club after his stint on the IL.

Cardinals activate Jack Flaherty from the IL

The Cardinals have activated RHP Jack Flaherty from the 60 Day IL. Flaherty was placed on IL due to a fractured forearm substained on a comeback line drive.

Flaherty was 1-0 with a 1.97 ERA in 15 innings of work before being injured. His return will hopefully be the jolt the rotation needs to be the dominant part of the roster that was expected coming into the 2024 season.

Dakota Hudson was optioned down to Memphis to create space for Flaherty.

Flaherty is expected to take the ball for the Cardinals 2nd game in Oakland.

                  2025 White Sox - ALCS

White Sox advance to the World Series after defeating the Texas Rangers in 5 Games.

Losing Pitcher: Omar Ozuna (0-1, 2.25 ERA)
                  Save: Patrick McKenzie (2)

Game 2 with starting pitching match up of Andre Simons for Chicago and Henderson Alvarez for Texas, was a 2-1 Chicago Win

Losing Pitcher: Alex Claudio (0-2, 6.75 ERA)
                  Save: Patrick McKenzie (3)

Game 3 with Michael Kopech starting for Chicago and Yohander Mendez for Texas, went to Texas 7-4

Winning Pitcher: Yohander Mendez (2-0, 1.88 ERA)

Losing Pitcher: Hans Crouse (0-1, 2.77 ERA)
                  Save: Patrick McKenzie (4)

Games 5 with starters Omar Salgado for the Sox and Omar Ozuna for the Rangers, went to Chicago 4-3

Winning Pitcher: Archie Bradley (1-1, 13.50 ERA)
Losing Pitcher: Mickey Andrews (0-1, 5.40 ERA)
                  Save: Patrick McKenzie (5)

The White Sox move on to face the cross town rival Cubs in the World Series. The Cubs beat the Philadelphia Phillies in the NLCS in 5 games as well.

Interestingly this is first time the Sox and Cubs will face each other in the 2025 season as for some reason they didn't face each other at all in the regular season...

This is also the third time in this Franchise that the White Sox and Cubs will face each other in the World Series. Cubs won the 2019 meeting and the White Sox won the 2023 meeting.

HOLY ****! This could be the biggest moment in my MLB The Show career, even bigger than the World Series victory last season.

                    Here's the recap:

National League MVP Michael Conforto cemented his legacy in New York Mets lore with a home run for the ages, as his 9th inning grand slam capped off an improbable rally by the defending World Series champion and surprisingly pushed the Philadelphia Phillies to the brink of elimination following New York's 8-7 victory in Game 3 of the NLDS.

Game 3 certainly appeared to be under Philadelphia's control, as the Phillies raced out to a 5-0 lead and chased Mets starter Steven Matz after just three innings of work. While the Mets would draw within 5-3 in the fourth, Philadelphia pushed its lead to 7-3 a few innings later and entered the ninth up 7-4.

New York's ninth inning began with a Travis d'Arnaud walk. Pinch hitter Jay Bruce struck out, but Amed Rosario delivered a single to left and Asdrubal Cabrera followed with a single to right that loaded the bases and set the stage for Conforto's heroics. On a 2-2 count, Conforto stayed patient and allowed Edubray Ramos's slider to travel just far enough through the strike zone before uncorking a towering blast over the left-centerfield wall and silencing what was just moments before, a raucous Citizen Bank Park crowd.

Robert Gsellman toes the rubber in Game 4 to try and send the Mets into the NLCS, while the Phillies counter with Jake Arrieta.

I've now won six in a row on default HOF, so I'm staying here.

We're 31-6 in May of 2020. Markakis is hitting close to .400 since I brought him back, and top prospect Melvin Rodriguez is hitting around .230. So I sent Rodriguez back down to AAA and called up Charlie Culberson for some infield depth.

2025 White Sox Franchise - World Series

The 2025 World Series is over after only 4 games as the Cubs swept the series.

Story of the Series was the normally grounded White Sox pitching giving up the homers. Giving up 10 in homers in those 4 games.

Game 1 was a 2-1 walk off win for the Cubs on LF Kyle Schwarber's homer in the bottom of the 9th.

Cubs took Game 2 by a 7-5 score. Sox pitching couldn't keep the ball in the yard, giving up 4 homers to the Cubs by LF Kyle Schwarber, C Willson Contreras, RF Wendell Batista and 2B Javier Baez.

Cubs won Game 3, 3-1 with 3 more homers by LF Kyle Schwarber, CF Albert Almora and 3B Kris Bryant off Sox pitching.

Game 4 was a 4-3 Cubs win after taking a quick 4-0 lead in the first 2 innings off a couple more homers by CF Albert Almora Jr. and 1B Abraham Conroy and holding off a late Sox rally.

The game gave the Playoff MVPs to White Sox RF Eloy Jimenez and Cubs 2B Javier Baez.

Personally I would've given Sox DH Javier Estrada the AL Playoff MVP. Estrada hit .277, 5 HR, and 13 RBI and Jimenez hit .407 but 0 HR and 3 RBI

World Series MVP was Cubs CF Albert Almora Jr.

Ok, so I was supposed to post again after the draft. Well that didn’t happen. Ended up just playing on, now at June 23rd.

The Yankees record is 55-24, 1st in the East by 5.5 games over Boston and the best record in baseball by 4 wins over the Braves and Dodgers. Since the draft, we’ve taken 2 of 3 from Cleveland, Baltimore, and the Angels. Then split a 4 game series with the Astros, and then we caught fire sweeping Boston in 3 at Fenway and then taking 3 of 4 from the Angels in LA.

The draft wasn’t anything special for us this year. Only 2 notable picks:
CP James Ashton 22 years old 70 OVR B potential
SP Doug Snell 21 years old 71 OVR B potential.

Before the Houston series the Yankees got their man, acquiring SP Zack Greinke from the Diamondbacks.
                          Going to Arizona:
                          RF Alexander Palma A potential
                          SP Roansy Contreras B potential
                          SP Freicer Perez B potential
In this deal Arizona moves his large salary for this year and next off their payroll and receive a nice trio of prospects.

Really did plan on that being the only big deal I do mid season then the real baseball world messed it up.

So we ended up making another deal with the SF Giants...
                          Yankees Acquire Gerrit Cole
Giants Acquire: SP Noah Syndergaard, SP Trevor Stephan, and LF Mike Yazstremski.
Two talented big name pitchers coming off down year’s, 2 pitchers who then imploded for their new teams. Thor arrived in the Bronx over the offseason for a huge package and was most recently demoted for being so awful. Cole arrived in the Bay Area via FA and has been just as bad being easily the Giants worst starter. Thor is 2 years younger and supposed to be the better pitcher. He’s under contract this year and next for 11M per year. Cole signed a 4 year contract making 16.2M this year, 18.9M in 2021, 21.7M in 2022, and 24.4M in 2023.

Had to throw realism out the window a bit this time, but I think it’s more then fair and makes sense. With the way it worked out with both pitcher’s numbers being terrible this year and not so good last year either, had to do it.

Farm system is getting thin now so that’s almost definitely it as far as adding major players this season.

Up next: A day off then 3 @KC before finally returning home after a 10 game road trip to face the Mariners. Will update again very soon, so this one post doesn’t get too long.

The Dodgers (48-22) home stand comes to close being swept in 3 games by the Cubs (45-26). It was a string of games which saw the home team only being able to win 6 out of 11. 2 losses that really sting are 3-4 loss to the Rockies which saw the game end in the bottom of 9th as Charlie Blackmon robbed Cody Bellinger of grand slam, and an 8-9 loss to the Cubs where a total of 11 home runs were hit, 8 by the Cubs.

Next up for the Dodgers is a series against the Diamondbacks (38-34) in Mexico.

Note: I like to do a “Mexico Series” once a year where I play the games in the desert themed minor league stadiums.

The New York Mets 2020 season came to an end as they fell to NL East division rival Philadelphia 5-2 in Game 5 of their NLDS matchup.

It's the second time in three years the Mets have finished with the best record in baseball, only to lose in their opening playoff series.

The Chicago Cubs, winners of 115 games, also lost in the NLDS. Philadelphia wound up going all the way to the World Series, where they were defeated in 6 games by the Los Angeles Angels.

Certainly a disappointing postseason for me again. 2020 was the end of my 3-year GM contract and I considered leaving the Mets, but my only options were the Angels, Yankees or Cubs, so I stayed with the Mets.

That said, 2021 will look very different. Yoenis Cespedes, Jay Bruce, Todd Frazier and Asdrubal Cabrera are no longer with the team. The Mets wouldn't commit big money and years to the 35-year old Cespedes, while Bruce, Frazier and Cabrera (Bruce is 32 and Cabrera and Frazier are each 35) were traded for prospects. No changes to the starting rotation or bullpen.

In free agency, the Mets landed Mookie Betts and Marcel Ozuna to re-shape the outfield. With Ozuna coming to NY, the Cardinals went out and signed Cespedes to a 1-year deal. Pete Alonso is the everyday 1st baseman, while Jeff McNeil takes over at 2nd base and Wilmer Flores will start the season as the team's 3rd baseman.

Even with the playoff loss, I'll be moving up to default HOF (directional hitting, classic pitching and auto fiedling/manual throwing) for the 2021 season.
