Cardinals sweep Rangers take over first place in Central

The Cardinals swept the Rangers in a brief 2 game series with the Rangers and now lead the NL Central division by a game over the Pirates.

The Cardinals won the first game of the series 7-1 behind a dominant pitching performance by Tim Lincecum. Lincecum struck out 14 over 8 innings of work before being pulled to at the end of the 8th due to reaching 135 pitches. Jordan Hicks got a chance to pitch after struggling his last few outings and fanned the side in the 9th to preserve the 7-1 win.

The Cardinals offense was sparked by Jo Adell who broke out of a mini slump going 2 for 3 with a homerun and double and driving in 5 of the 7 runs. The other two runs were driven in by Harrison Bader on a two out double in the 7th.

Game two saw both teams struggle offensively as the Cardinals finally prevailed via a 2 run homerun by Kolten Wong in the bottom of the 8th. Trevor Rosenthal allowed a run in the 9th, but held on for his 20th save of the year in a 2-1 victory. Carlos Martinez worked 6 scoreless innings striking out 8. Zach Burdi pitched out of a jam in the top of the 8th when the Rangers got runners to 2nd and 3rd with no outs. Burdi proceeded to strike out the next 3 hitters to keep the game scoreless.

The Cardinals are off on Wednesday but will then host a big 4 game August series with the Pirates over the weekend. The Cardinals lead the Pirates by a single game in the Central Division.

Opening day 2020 had its ups and downs

Positive - we scored 5 runs and had 12 hits off Kershaw in 5 innings.

Tatis went 4-5 and was a triple shy of the cycle.

Bullpen had a very solid outting throwing 4 scoreless innings.

Negatives - Gerrit Cole got lit up for 7 runs in 4 in his Padre debut.

Trammel went 0-5 after a red hot spring.

      Final Score - Padres 6 Dodgers 7

Well, I made a fatal mistake about 30 games into my 2019 Atlanta Braves franchise...

Actually, I made another mistake as I started because I didn't turn CPU trades on but I was just gonna roll with it and see how the teams rosters played out but I don't have to worry about that anymore. As some of you might know I had been uploading all of my games to my YouTube channel, not that I get a lot of views or anything, but all of those games will be taken down and I'll start all over in a few days if any of you were watching.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

Haven't updated like I would like to, namely because I haven't been able to play like I would like to. I can only play a couple innings at a time, if even that, before my ps4 starts overheating on me. Ugh. Kind of understandable though since I've had this system since the PS4 was released lol. Anyway, enough of the woe is me stuff. The Tigers franchise is kind of on hold, but I'm gonna start a manager/SIM franchise as the Orioles since I can play quick manage and SIM the game just fine.

Bit to get a little caught up on the Tigers series against the Yankees:
Tigers have taken the first two from New York thanks to Castellanos, who has hit two homeruns in the series so far. Jarrod Dyson hit an inside the park homerun after Giancarlo Stanton attempted a diving catch and missed, and Miguel Cabrera continues to be a nonfactor in games, though he's getting on base a lot via walks. New York has been outscored 12-4 in the series so far in a 4-1 loss and a 8-3 loss.
Their bats have woken up in the series finale though as they lead 4-2 after two innings. Nicholas Castellanos hit a two-out solo shot in the first to give Detroit a 1-0 lead, but Gary Sanchez hit a three-run shot on the bottom of the first, and Carlos Santana notched another homerun later in the inning to make it 4-1. Jarrod Dyson hit a line drive to right-center field that just kept going for Detroit's second homerin, and that's where we're left off as my ps4 started overheating again.

Keep an eye out for the Orioles franchise to start, once I decide what rosters I want to use

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

(Managed to finish the game today somehow. As long as the room is cool enough, I can keep my PS4 from overheating. But still expect this series to be sporadic with updates)

Tigers Rally, Stun Yankees With Sweep In New York

The records should be reversed. Detroit, the worst team in baseball last year by a wide margin, should not be 6-1 to start the season. And New York, a top-five team last year, should not be 1-5. Yet here we are.

Picking up where we left off, with Detroit down 4-2 in the third inning, it seemed like New York would avoid the sweep. But Matthew Boyd settled down after the first inning, giving up sporadic hits over the last five innings he would pitch. And while Boyd settled in, Severino would struggle with command, leaving pitches over the heart of the plate far too often.

John Hicks picked things up in the fourth, taking a Severino change-up and belting it over the wall for a solo shot to make it 4-3. Jacoby Jones hit the next pitch for a double, and Luis Valdes knocked him in with a single to tie the game at four a piece. Next up was Victor Reyes, who worked an eleven pitch walk before Wilmer Difo came up and took a Severino breaking ball over the short right field wall for his first homerun of the year. 7-4 Tigers.

Buck Farmer and Trevor Rosenthal pitched scoreless seventh and eighth innings to turn the ball over in the ninth to closer Shane Greene. After getting the first two outs, New York tried to rally with three straight hits, including an RBI double from Ronald Torreyes to make it 7-5. Judge singled to put runners on first and third with two outs, bringing up Gary Sanchez as the winning run. Greene struck him out on a 3-2 slider low and away to seal the win.

Detroit heads home for the first time this season for a three-game series against the 1-4 Kansas City Totals while New York travels to Baltimore for another three-game series against the Orioles.

It does, but at least I have some workarounds for it. And can still play a little, just have to be very cautious and keep an eye on timeframes lol
It's weird that only certain games do it though. I can play Smite or Elder Scrolls Online for hours at a time without it overheating. But go into the show and I can get maybe twenty minutes before it overheats 🤔

Unless I have my room around 70 degrees or lower temperature-wise.
Either way, I'm still enjoying playing when I can, and will continue to play through my franchise as much as possible.
Have the series against Kansas City going right now, but I'm looking forward more to the start of my AA season to play as all my young prospects and check them out

First series finished in 2020. I lost the first two to the Dodgers but was able to scrap back and even the series by winning the back 2 to finish out the first weekend at an even 2-2.

Played 1 game so far of the next series and beat the Rockies 8-4 behind 7 solid IP by Dinelson Lamet giving up only 2 runs. Padres are sitting at 3-2 and 1 game behind the Giants.

                    Studs:
                    Eric Hosmer: .429, 2 HR 5RBI
Fernando Tatis JR: .409, 1 HR, 2 RBI
                    Manny Machado: .375, 3 HR 7 RBI
                    Francisco Mejia: .294, 2 HR 4 RBI
                    Ty France: .357 1 HR 6 RBI

                    Duds:
                    Luis Urias: .143 0 HR 0 RBI
                    Gerrit Cole: 0-1, 10.80 ERA 2 BB 3K
                    Adrian Morejon 0-0, 27.00 ERA 2BB 0K
                    David Bednar 0-0, 9.00 ERA, 2 IP 0BB 2K

Edit - so far some reason the SCEA CAPS for Quantrill, Naylor and Morejon all have 0 options so I'm stuck with them unless risk through waivers. Thats' odd

Fear The Moose, Royals Take Two of Three From Tigers

Coming fresh off a sweep of the Yankees and playing in front of the home crowd for the first time this season, Detroit faltered against the Royals. Mike Moustakas put KC on his back with three homeruns in the series, including a two-out, three-run bomb in the ninth inning off closer Shane Greene to steal a victory.

Miggy hit his first homerun of the year, and Castellanos continues his strong start to the season with two doubles and a triple in the series. Dixon Machado's bat came alive in the series finale, falling just a homerun shy of the cycle in a 4 for 4 performance.

Detroit stays home for a three game series against Cleveland next while Kansas City returns home for a four game set against the 2-9 Mariners.

Cardinals place Jordan Hicks on 10 Day IL

The Cardinals have placed RHP Jordan Hicks on the 10 Day IL due to a strained pectoral. Hicks was removed after one batter in last nights game against the Pirates.

The injury doesn't seem to be significant and the Cardinals are confident he'll return in the 10 days.

The Cardinals recalled RHP Pedro Baez from Memphis to fill the vacant roster spot.

Post all-star break I'm switching to HOF pitching. The A.L. overall seems to be pretty weak this year but especially in my games. Figured it would make potentially breaking the wins record that much sweeter with a change in difficulty and in game story wise I can chalk it up to the pitchers getting fatigued as the season drags on.

Won my first game against the Astros 1-0. I struck out 13 times and sent them packing 8. They had 8 hits to my 4. The winning run came in the 8th when I struck out swinging but got to first on a dropped third strike. Then, wild pitch advanced me. I grounded to the right side to advance runner to third. Then I hit a monster foul ball that I thought was gone (HR cam triggered where the batter waves it fair) but trailed foul. Next pitch was in the dirt and I scored. I got my only run on a strike out, wild pitch, groundout, wild pitch.

Can I just state how much I hate submariner pitchers. And soft throwers. Just...ugh
Playing in AA to get a look at my draft picks from last year, and get into the late innings. Altoona brings in a pitcher who has a running fastball that good out at 87, and a change-up that is in the low 70's. Throw in that sidearm, submarine release point and I was just completely thrown for a loop. I couldn't time anything for four innings. Ugh
On the bright side, I hit my first homerun with one of my drafted prospects. Not first overall pick Brett Perez, but our second base prospect Odel Cooley. A solo shot to straight away center field.
