Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

Haven't updated in a while due to a lack of playing time. Been on an Elder Scrolls Online kick lately, and Borderlands 3 came out, so that's taken my limited playing time. But here we go.

Tigers Place Jarrod Dyson on 60-Day IL

Despite winning the first two games of the three-gane series against Cleveland, it wasn't all good for the Tigers. Game Two saw an impressive pitching duel between Cleveland's Corey Kluber and Detroit's Matthew Boyd that resulted in a 1-0 victory for the Tiger's. Detroit scored their lone run in the fifth inning when Jarrod Dyson stole second after drawing an eleven-pitch walk. Victor Reyes knocked him with a sharp single to right-center field. It was this play that was bittersweet for Dyson and the Tigers. Dyson's forearm collided with the shin of Cleveland catcher Francisco Mejia, and he came out of the game in immense pain.

X-rays after the game showed that Dyson fractured his arm on that play, and is expected to miss 2-3 months of time. A blow to Detroit for sure. Dyson was slashing .353/.405/.676 with 3 doubles, 1 triple, 2 homeruns and 6 runs batted in in his 34 at-bats to begin the season. Walking three times and striking out only four, Dyson also contributed 4 stolen bases to the team. Victor Reyes is expected to take over in center field while Dyson is out, and outfielder Kenny Wilson has been called up from AAA to be a fourth outfielder.

Wilson has only had four at-bats in AAA so far this season with two hits and an RIB, but the 29-year old slashed .284/.351/.374 with 12 doubles, 1 triple and 10 runs batted in last year in 155 at-bats for the Tigers, so they're hoping for similar production as a reserve in Dyson's absence.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

The injury bug has caught the Giants once again. Just days after losing Kevin Pillar for 2 months to a separated shoulder, Pablo Sandoval has gone down with a fractured shin after diving awkwardly for a ground ball. Sandoval will be out for 1 to 2 months as well leaving another hole in an already weak Giants batting order. The Giants have placed Sandoval on the 10 day IL and called up Zach Green in a corresponding move.

New GM Cranjis McBasketball, tasked with making the Giants a contender this year while preserving the future has decided to look within the franchise to replace their production.

In an unrelated move the Giants have acquired Tim Tebow from the Mets for a minor leaguer and cash. When asked how Tebow fits into the Giants plans McBasketball was quoted as saying " we love his character, his attitude and were excited to have him here. Who knows? Maybe he'll earn a September call up." Tebow will report to the Giants AA affiliate Richmond where he will start in Left Field.

Diamondbacks claim Austin Gomber off waivers

The Diamondbacks have claimed LHP Austin Gomber off waivers from the Cardinals. The Cardinals placed the 29 year old on outright waivers earlier this week after they decided to remove him from the 40 man roster. Gomber has had his share of struggles both at the major league level and AAA level in the minors.

Gomber will join a Diamondbacks staff that is loaded with promising young talent, but lacked left handed pitching. Hopefully, a change of scenery will do the lefty some good.

Best of luck to Gomber in Arizona.

I definitely respect those who add rules as restrictions to what they can or can't do in franchise, but I've always been of the mentality that if the game lets me do it, then I should be able to do it... So yeah, I abused the broken trade system in 14.

Not sure what I'm hoping to accomplish with this post. Maybe I'm wondering if you (and other people in this thread) would be interested in hearing about an absolutely stacked team.

Cardinals place Ozzie Albies on 10 Day IL

The Cardinals have placed SS Ozzie Albies on the 10 Day IL due to a shoulder injury. Albies was injured when he was hit by Reds catcher Stuart Turner, turning a double play late in the game against the Reds last night.

Albies isn't expected to miss significant time due to the injury, but with the Cardinals in a stretch where they are playing 12 straight days before their next day off, they didn't want to play with a short bench while waiting for Albies to heal, and definitely didn't want to risk further injury by having Albies play.

The Cardinals have not announced a corresponding move as of yet, but its expected that IF Bryce Denton will be recalled from Memphis.

                    Cardinals take series against Reds

The Cardinals took 2 out of 3 against the Reds in Cincinnati to win the weekend series. The Cardinals won games 1 and 3 and were destroyed by the Reds on Saturday when the Reds hit a combined 6 homeruns in a 11-3 rout of the Cardinals.

The Cardinals bullpen did a good job this series where they helped nail down the two wins and actually kept the game Saturday from getting too far out of hand.

The Cardinals were already without Ozzie Albies but added Brendan McKay to the injured list as he suffered a leg injury after sliding into second base trying to breakup a double play. McKay will likely be placed on the 10 Day IL.

The Cardinals start a 4 game series in Philadelphia tomorrow against the Phillies.

Brendan McKay placed on the 10 Day IL

As expected the Cardinals have placed 1B Brendan McKay on the 10 Day IL due to a lower leg injury suffered when McKay slid into to second base to break up a double play. The Cardinals waited a day before placing McKay on the IL, but with the team in the midst of a 12 day stretch without a day off, the Cardinals elected to not play with a short bench while McKay healed, as it looks it will take about a week.

The Cardinals recalled OF Jose Adolis Garcia from Memphis to take the open roster spot.

Tigers Can't Complete The Sweep As Indians Show Off Their Power In Series Finale

Detroit took the first two games of this three g ane series against Cleveland by a combined score of 5-1. Michael Fulmer and Matt Boyd won their pitching duels against Trevor Bauer and Corey Kluber, with just enough offense to support the two pitchers. Nicholas Castellanos continued his hot start with another homerun, his fourth of the year.

Game Three saw the return of the long ball as the team's combined for five homeruns in Cleveland's 6-5 victory. All six Indian runs came courtesy of the long ball with two-run shots from Francisco Lindor, Jose Ramirez, and Edwin Encarnacion.

Matt Szczur hit his first homerun as a Tiger in the ninth inning to make it a one-run game, and Victor Reyes hit one as well, only the second homerun of his career. Miguel Cabrera hit an RBI double in the third inning, giving him 1700 career RBI's.

Detroit (9-4) hits the road for a three game series against Minnesota (4-6) next, looking to continue the hot start to the season.

Cardinals drop 3 of 4 to Phillies

The Cardinals dropped the series against the Phillies in Citizen's Bank Park losing 3 of the 4 games. After being hot for the better of a week, the offense was atrocious in this series as the Cardinals only scored more than 2 runs in a single game, and that was Wednesday's contest in which they won. The Cardinals lost 3-2, 1-0, and 4-2.

This lineup sorely misses Albies and McKay in the 2 and 3 spots respectively.

The lone bright spot was Patrick Wisdom who extended his hitting streak to 19 games. He's now sitting at .291 for average with 54 homeruns and 116 RBI's. Well on his way to a 2nd straight National League MVP award.

The Cardinals will look to bounce back against the Brewers in Milwaukee over the weekend. This is the final series before the calendar flips to September.

Cardinals win series against the Brewers

The Cardinals won the rubber match on Sunday to take the 3 game series against the Brewers in Milwaukee. The Cardinals are now 84-53 and take a 6 1/2 game lead over the Pirates into the season's final month.

The Cardinals could've had a sweep but on Saturday, Trevor Rosenthal blew his 3rd save of the season when he allowed a grand slam to Isan Diaz that allowed the Brewers to tie the game at 4. The Brewers went on to win on a walk off hit by Brett Lawrie in the bottom of the 12th.

On Sunday, the Cardinals extracted revenge as they scored 4 in the top of the 8th to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 5-2 lead, which is pivotal because they were without Patrick Wisdom, Jabari Blash, Juan Fabregas, and Carson Kelly who each had a scheduled day off. Jose Adolis Garcia, Edmundo Sosa, Bryce Denton, and Andrew Knizner were vital to the come back win.

The Cardinals will kick off the month of September with a 7 game homestand, starting with 4 games against the Nationals. The homestand concludes this weekend with 3 versus the Padres.

Both Ozzie Albies and Brendan McKay are due back for the San Diego series.

                            Cardinals remaining schedule:

                            4 vs WSH
                            3 vs SD

Kyle Funkhouser and Patrick Wisdom earn player of the month honors for August

Cardinals pitcher Kyle Funkhouser and 3B Patrick Wisdom won pitcher and player of the month award respectively for the National League for the month of August.

Kyle Funkhouser pitched 6 games and was a perfect 6-0 in those games with a 2.31 ERA and 38 strikeouts. Funkhouser is currently the favorite for the Cy Young award in the National League and leads the NL in wins (18), fewest losses (3), and is 2nd in ERA (2.52) behind teammate Tim Lincecum (2.27).

Patrick Wisdom batted .359 with 15 homeruns and 29 RBI's for the month of August. Wisdom, who won the National League MVP last year, is the betting favorite to do so again this year. Wisdom leads the National League in homeruns (57), RBI's (122), SLG % (.674), OPS (1.043), WAR (7.8), and runs scored (112)

Hopefully the two can keep up the torrid pace and bring home the hardware as well as lead the Cardinals back to the World Series.

I'm so intrigued by this Tim Lincecum comeback story. What is his overall rating?
