After putting in over 800 hours into 19.....I will respectively disagree.

The gameplay is largely better. For those that play this game as intensely as I do.....the improvement to hitting and fielding as well as catching(blocked balls etc), CPU base running and OF throwing is stark.

SDS did an amazing job getting this gameplay to this point. Truly outstanding.

My full impressions are still being formulated. I have so many modes I am playing with I want to be as in-depth as I can before I post them.

Needless to say.....I can tell you a few nuggets:

    Gameplay is incredible.

The intro video is easily tied for the worst ever (MLB 15 with Puig stunk too). Automatic skip.

    That is all for now.

For anyone to say this game plays the same as last year, must not have played much last year.

The hitting engine is so much different. And it’s all for the better. Hitting feels so accurate and rewarding. The gameplay is much smoother and there are a ton of new animations.

This is simply the best version of the Show that has been released. It definitely sets up a lot of excitement on what SDS will do with the additional capabilities of the PS5.

What's the average distribution of SP stamina at the MLB level 4-5 years into 20, best you can tell from eyeballing it?

The gameplay that you mention is but one small facet in the overall package, which like I said is largely the same as last year. I agree 100% the initial impressions of the on the field play is better but how much does that really account for in the grand scheme of things? There is only so much they can do with such outdated hardware.

Considering I'll spend a vast majority of my time playing game on the diamond versus scrolling/clicking through menus (including franchise stuff), I'd say that gameplay accounts for a whole hell of a lot.

it's not just the hardware that's outdated, the game engine is prehistoric. Reason it needs so much power to maintain smooth frames. SDS needs to invest.

This isn’t the right forum to have this debate. But this game engine you say is prehistoric, still puts out the most fun and realistic gameplay compared to any other current sports title. With 2K being the only one that you could debate.

The game itself looks better every year between the colors, atmosphere and ballpark details. And the gameplay is realistic and crisp. Not sure what else someone would want from a baseball sim.

If people want to complain about this game, you can certainly do so with the lack of franchise mode features added in recent years. But I just don’t see how you can complain about the gameplay, especially offline.

I’ve played about 4 diamond dynasty games so far. Overall the game is pretty solid. Definitely noticed the changes with the fielding, very noticeable when you have a poor defensive outfielder and there’s a delay with him reacting to the ball. Nice improvement. Throwing has been a challenge for me, made a few throwing errors each game on routine plays. But again, nice improvement that it’s more of a challenge and not as easy to get a throw in the green.

One thing I’d like to see fixed with a patch is removing the ability to put starting pitchers in their bullpen in DD. I fee like I’ve seen nothing but Cy Young and Hall of Fame pitchers so far. Someone starts a game with Scherzer, brings in Kershaw as a reliever and then Verlander as their closer.

Re: MLB The Show 20 Impressions Thread

The game is good every single year, don't get me wrong, but the engine just continues to screw it up. I've now played 3 full games. In those 3 games, Aroldis Chapman has had 2 save opportunities. He's 0/2. He's given up game tying jacks to the first batter in the bottom half of the inning each time. The developers just can't seem to get this right year in and year out. Every single game isn't an exciting fest filled with game tying home runs. I've tried changing pitchers. I've tried matchups. I've tried mound visits. Nothing works.

Just played a game against Atlanta on Legend. We're tied 1-1, Paxton vs Soroka. Sanchez destroys a Homer in the sixth to take a 2-1 lead. Bottom half of inning, sac fly by Atlanta 2-2.

Top 8. Stanton hits a home run to take 3-2 lead. Bottom 8, I bring in Chad Green. First batter Acuna. Pci clearly off ball, home run, 3-3.

Top 10. I load bases and Torres hits an rbi single to take 4-3 lead. Bottom 10, I bring in Chapman. First pitch slider to Freeman, lefty lefty matchup. 440 feet later it's 4-4.

Top 11. Judge dead center, 5-4. Bottom 11, I bring in Ottavino. First batter is Hecchavaria. Double into gap. Then k. Fly out. Walk. First and second two outs. Grounder to first, Voit knocks it down, makes play and we win.

Every single game isn't like this, but in this game it seems to be. I just don't get it. Maybe because I'm on legend. Maybe because I'm doing something wrong every single game. I don't know, but every game in real life isn't an exciting jack fest. The game gets better every year, but until these inane, excitement filled blown saves continue to show up, it's never going to realize its full potential.

Re: MLB The Show 20 Impressions Thread

Guys I’m in love. This **** is so good. Can’t even tell you how pleased I am. I feel like this game represents everything they’ve been building toward since the beginning.

                      • That we can edit catchers masks blows me away, been asking for that for a decade.
                      • Audio got a very nice upgrade.
                      • Hitting feels incredible.
                      • Animation variety on defense at an all-time high, very noticeable and welcome.

I wish they could clean up the aliasing on the baselines, and I wish they would let the catcher throw the ball back before autoskipping, but holy cow that’s like all I’m “upset” with.

After another patch or two I think this is shaping up to land somewhere in 9.5/10 territory.
                      Just one man’s opinion.
I don’t actually care about any of this.

Maybe you should wait until you've played more than 3 games before assuming the engine is to blame.

Three games does not make a representative sample size. Anyone who knows baseball should understand this.

this is the problem with a "programmed automated hitting system" it's not 100% your input that's being put out "bat spot contact with the ball". Reason if played enough you'll see it happen again and again. What i love about Konami's design better with all batting assist off, you never know what your hits or games going to turn out like. This true manual design is what this game needs added. It would make The Show truly realistic.

I play franchise and rtts and I am disappointed. Did they just put the same exact stuff from last year besides the minors and relocation? Even the beginning of rtts is the same as last year, same setup, same first games, just 100 percent the same. I feel like such a sucker this year.

I posted this in another thread, my biggest issue is on HOF default, I'm hitting home runs at far too high of a pace. For me it seems no matter the ratings of the CPU pitcher, they are making way too many mistake pitches down the heart of the plate. I think from a slider perspective raising CPU pitcher control and consistency will probably help, but haven't tried it yet.

Also if you play MTO, sliders don't help. Other than the game has been fabulous for me.
