The game is great huge improvement over 19.

Graphics pop, animations are new fresh and fluid, the variety of hit types and exit velocities.

I am impressed. First year SDS outdid NBA 2k.

Never seen this before. I hit a grounder to 1st and the first baseman flipped it to the pitcher. I was out by a mile but the pitcher actually ran over the base never touched it and I was called safe.

Commentary made it sound as if I beat him to the bag so it may be a bug.

I’ll get back to you on animations that seem to match their pitch speeds and those that don’t.
It is a matter of what your eyes believe I guess...
The animations all around in 20 are fantastic...just pitching motions some don’t pass the eye test is all

We have some of the most exciting young players on the Blue Jays yet DeRo and Plesac are excited to see Joe Panik play every time I have him in the lineup????

Shut them off......do your own play by play....best advice I can give you!

I actually only have them on for Sunday baseball on MLBN theme. That’s it. That way I won’t roll my eyes at hearing the same lines for the 100th time.

It is now at that point where play by play and color needs an overhaul. It really does.

My hope is for the move to PS5 they really consider making a fresh start on that particular aspect of presentation.

Thank god for Sounds of the Show. I know I keep saying it....but if you are not using that feature you are robbing yourself of an incredible tool for complete immersion at the ball park.

So hopefully they will consider taking a look at 2K’s baseball approach to play by playing color commentary as that game really had a nice approach with the highly dynamic commentary and the oodles of different statistical swipes. Also having it be really dynamic inside your franchise and adapting to your teams and leagues storylines is the ultimate goal for me personally.

However......I have been able to provide my own color and play by play as well as I know my franchise storylines inside and out.....but it would be cool if the game could really do it to a high level.

It’s not bad. But it is not where it should be at this point in the console cycle.

So that is a huge area of opportunity for the series moving forward.

Gameplay? Seriously they are hitting HR’s this year. Just amazing. I could not be happier.

Modes? Incredible amount of ways to play....I will be busy in Franchise, March To October, Custom Leagues, Diamond Dynasty Ranked Seasons, Player Evolution, Team Affinities....I am hooked on DD this year for the first time since MLB 15.

Online play has been very stable for me and I am superbly happy in the balance they are getting with online gameplay. It took a while.....but they nailed it this year (that is until the kiddies start complaining).

Re: MLB The Show 20 Impressions Thread

I absolutely love pitching in this game.

Current game versus the Nationals, while I have given up 4 homeruns, I have collected 13 strikeouts thru 7 innings with a combination of Carlos Martinez (10 strikeouts) and John Gant (3 strikeouts). Setting up hitters has never been better in this series and that is primarily because you can work off the fastball better in '20 than you could in previous versions.

I know some are going to gasp at the thought of 4 homeruns thru 7 innings, but to put things into perspective, 2 of the Nats homeruns were "cheap" in terms of hitting the ball to right field with a wind blowing out at 10mph. 2 of them were warning track at best fly balls that carried into the stands. One was a line drive off the left foul pole that Ross Godwin beat me on and another was a Godwin homerun when C-Mart left a curveball hanging right down the middle. I'm not sure that ball has landed yet... LOL
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I was playing against the blue jays recently in my franchise with my Red Sox and their lineup (CPU) was really bad... first: Vlad Jr did not play at all in the series (shaw was the 3rd baseman) Bo was the DH the whole series and Tellez was the leadoff hitter the whole series playing 1B.... horrible!!

Now playing against the Orioles and they also have a weird lineup... but its acceptable.

I know the CPU goes by player ratings... but they should add more things to consider for the CPU to make decisions... like Potential, MLB experience, how they are playing during the season...etc etc.

I've seen the Tellez batting first thing. But overall, I don't think they've been too bad. Vlad Jr....he kinda sucks in this game. He's got decent contact vs righties, moderate power, and crap fielding. Sure, he's an A potential guy, but...there are a LOT of holes in his game; I kinda think if he was named Ruben Rivera Jr, we would be a little more neutral about him.

As for your other point; I agree performance should be a driver (and I DO see that in some places) but what is your rationale as to why potential or experience should weigh into the decision of where to bat a player? I'm not sure I quite get it.
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.

Definitely the best version yet, but so many little things are missing. I won't bother naming them all, but the most recent one was how the game doesn't track any information/ stats about catchers throwing out baserunners.

Took the plunge and got a PS4 Slim and the Show and has been well worth it. I could list so many things I like in the game, it would take all day to list them, and only a few annoyances.

                        1. Schedules are the same every year.
                        2. Took out one of the broadcast themes from last year.
                        3. Setting up "Sounds Of The Show" is a pain as they force you to do it for EVERY TEAM and there is no copying or option to set the same sounds for all stadiums.

Otherwise, great job Sony! and congratulations on taking my money.

EDIT: about #1, the schedules are not the exact same but have same interleague opponents.

Biggest issue I'm having is sluggish baserunners and fielders. Also, why is it so difficult to make a diving catch!?

I've said it before but I'll say it again, there is nothing more satisfying that just throwing a fastball right by a batter.

Also, nothing more nerve racking, and enjoyable, than pitching with a pitcher who just doesn't have his command that day.

Currently trying to navigate thru the Phillies lineup with Carlos Martinez who just doesn't have command of anything, especially his fastball and curveball. Difficult to keep hitters off balance.

I'd like to see them work on the crowd noise. Seems disjointed, as if not really sensing the flow of the game and the big moments. It's almost like random noise being played, but little connection to the actual game itself. Otherwise, great game.

Only played 4 games so far but liking gameplay. I am concerned about homeruns so far. Sample size still way to small to draw any conclusions but bumped my hitting up to legend after game 1 (I am not great at this game by any means and believe I was on all star on mlb 19). Still have 5 homeruns with Yelich after 4 games and have hit with others too.

Other than Yelich homerun binge it seems good.

Is there a way to pick starting difficulty using dynamic difficulty? I can't find it.

Is there a way to get the strike zone box off when pitching so I can't visually see where corners are? I had this off in mlb19 but can't find how to do this in mlb20.
