Game #109 of the season in my Red Sox franchise last night saw Chris Sale throw a complete game allowing 1 run and striking 9 Yankees hitters as the Red Sox won the opener of a 4 game series to pull within 2.5 games of the 1st place Yankees

      TRUE TO THE BLUE

      2020 Seattle Mariners (11-24)

Cashner Has Strong Debut for Mariners Sunday, May 3rd, 2020
Andrew Cashner took the mound for his first start as a Mariner on Saturday night at home against the visiting Astros. He pitched five scoreless frames before giving up a two-run homer to Houston third basemen Alex Bregman in the sixth inning and finished the night with 3 K's, 1 BB, 2 ER, and 6 hits in 7.0 IP. Cashner earned a loss in the effort as the M's could only muster one run and lost 2-1. The 11-year veteran signed a minor league deal with the M's before the regular season and was added to the active roster on Friday.

Down on the farm, two other pitchers that could see big league action this year impressed in their starts. Justin Dunn, who slotted into Cashner's AAA rotation spot, carried a no-hitter into the 9th before allowing a solo homerun and exiting the game. Dunn finished the night with 8.1 IP, 1 ER, 1 H, 4 BB, 4 K's, and earned his first win of 2020 at any level. At AA, Logan Gilbert tossed seven shutout innings before allowing a solo shot in the 8th. Gilbert picked up the win with 8.0 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 1 BB, and 4 K's.

It is the Mariners hope that Cashner can continue to eat innings for their struggling ball club. The M's will most likely look to move Cashner's expiring contract to a contender at the deadline. In the meantime, his presence at the MLB level allows the Mariners top pitching prospects to continue to develop in the minors.

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

We splitted the two game series with the Blue Jays.

Game 1: I tried a spot starter. Since my AAA affiliate The Stripers season is over, I called RH SP Touki Toussaint.
The Blue Jays took his lunch & lunch money. Touki gave up: 7R,7ER,8H,2BB,4K on 4.2IP. Teheran a 17 game-winner; was supposed to start but I pushed him back to pitch the series opener vs. the Nats coming. I'll be doing that a few series that are important. Blue Jays won 11-1! The more than like AL R.O.Y. Vlad Jr., went 3 for 4, HR,2B,3RBI & 4R.

Game 2: We rebounded. We rode the arm of SP Soroka to victory. He went 7.0IP,3H,1R,1ER,2BB & 5K. SS Swanson who's been an enigma this year. But he showed up today & carried us offensively this day. He went 3 for 4,HR.3RBI & 2R out of the 8th slot! I was pumped for him... We won 5-1!

Our record balanced out at 78-62, 4.5GB of the NL East leading Mets. We stayed at the top of W.C. 0.5G. Trailed by the Nats. Reds & D-backs are 1.5GB. The Cards fell 3.0GB of me. Well if I am going to play one game it might as well be in my backyard. I take that back: we're 37-34 @home & 41-28 on the road...... Up next 4 games vs. the Nats. One of us can separate from the other. The Mets are off today, one of us will benefit from a series opener victory.

Game #110 of the season in my Red Sox franchise

The Red Sox and Yankees played a thriller that felt like a playoff game as JA Happ allowed 1 hit through the first 7 innings and the Yankees had a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 8th with the Red Sox threatening after back to back hits from Moreland and Vazquez. Adam Ottavino replaced Happ on the mound and Kevin Pillar would connect on the first pitch from Ottavino and hit a 3-run HR into the monster seats to give Boston a 3-1 lead. The Yankees would get a run in the top of the 9th to cut the Sox lead to 3-2 and had the tying run on base but their comeback would fall short as Workman struck out Gary Sanches to end the game

            PITTSBURGH PIRATES FRANCHISE

            August 26, 2020

Mercifully, the Pirates drop 3 of 4 to the last place Marlins in a 4-game home series. Fortunately we were able to bounce back and take 2 of 3 from the Phillies on the road. The Phillies are leading the east and the atmosphere at Citizens Bank was absolutely electric during the 3-game set. Definitely a playoff vibe, so it bodes well for our momentum to come away with a win.

My lefty platoon guys came up big in the Philly series, with Kevin Pillar and John Ryan Murphy each going yard twice. Pillar’s first was a pinch-hit go-ahead grand slam off of Adam Morgan to seal the win in Game 1.

Keone Kela continues to mow ‘em down. I think he’s the best reliever I’ve ever had in a MLB the Show game. Here’s his full stat line on the season so far:

65 G, 7-2, 1.92 ERA, 65.2 IP, 45 H, 24 BB, 1 HR, 90 K, 1.05 WHIP, 35 saves in 38 opportunities. His 1.55 FIP is eye popping and his 2.2 WAR leads all major league relievers by a wide margin. His rise to superstardom is a major factor in this team becoming a contender this season.

Unfortunately while we were struggling to beat the Marlins, the Reds have put together a 7-game winning streak. That leaves us 5.5 games out of first at 75-59. We still hold the top spot in the wild card, but only by 1.5 games. The Braves, Diamondbacks, and Cubs are all 73-60 and tied for the second spot. The Mets and Brewers have played well in August and are 2.5 and 4.5 games out, respectively.

Once again we have a negative run differential. In fact, only 2 teams in the NL have allowed more runs than the Pirates. Quite astonishing that we are sitting where we are just 5 days away from September.

We’ll have an off day before stopping in St. Louis. After that its a tough 7-game homestand against the Brewers and Braves.

The following teams have been officially eliminated from postseason contention:

            Orioles (42-89)
            Tigers (45-88)
            Royals (45-88)
            Cardinals (50-83)
            Giants (58-75)
            Padres (57-76)
            Rockies (52-82)

              The Amazins

Mets Rebound, Take Series From Marlins
              March 28, 2024

After a horrific loss on Opening Day, the Mets were able to win the next three games.

Amir Garrett, while not looking like last years CY Young winner, secured a win in his first game in a Mets uniform. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 6 hits and 3 runs with only 3 strikeouts in a 6-4 Mets win. Nick Burdi would give up another run in the 9th inning, but held on for the save, recording 3 strikeouts.

Games 3 and 4 were won by a score of 7-2 and 8-2 respectively. The Mets have gotten good starting pitching so far, including Dave Monahan going 7.1 innings with 8 K and only 2 ER in the series finale. There were questions about Monahan headed into the regular season after an abysmal spring, but a strong first start has taken the heat off of him for the time being.

Rafael Devers is picking up right where he left off after an MVP season. In 16 AB he's hitting .437/.471/1.188 with 3 HR, 3 2B, and 9 RBI. Obviously, it's still very early, but Devers has exploded out of the gates and is pacing this Mets offense.

The Mets now turn their attention to the Phillies, who took 2 of 3 in their opening series against the Braves. Dakota Chalmers will face off against Jake Thompson in Game 1 at Citi Field this evening.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:10pm.

                Tiger Tales

                @ Cleveland (0-0)

We took the field in the season opener looking to improve on those 47-wins from last season. Miggy started us off right with a RBI single. Candelario would later drive in 2 more to give us an early 3-0 lead in the 2nd inning. We never relenquished the lead extending it to 4-0 in the 6th. Cleveland would get two runs across later in the game. But, it was not enough.

Matthew Boyd went 7.2 with 11Ks and a 2.35 ERA
Mike Clevinger went 5 for the Indians and got 4Ks with a 5.40 ERA

                Candelario went 2-5, 2 RBI

The Cubs went 17-11 in August, and are at 75-62 overall. Everybody stepped up and has been delivering as of late. Sano has been an absolute beast since return from injury. Browning and Soto continue to play at All-Star levels, and Javier Baez is having his best offensive season since 2021. 2nd year pro 1B Devin Jackson has belted 28HR’s as well. Even Kyle Schwarber who had been the Cubs worst hitter this season by far, has turned it around and is producing solid numbers now.

The rotation still only has 1 starter under a 4ERA in the rotation, but they have all been consistently average, with the Cubs offense keeping them in the games. The bullpen is trusted and the Cubs look primed for a playoff push.

The Giants are 0.5 up on the Cubs for the 2nd WC spot, and the first series of September is a 3 game set vs the Giants. This could be a big swing early in the month. The Mets and Phillies also find themselves within 5 games of the spot. The Cubs only face 1 other team above .500 in September, but it’s the Cardinals (88-48) who they matchup with 7 times.

Cubs 75-62 (0.5GB of WC2) heading into September.

The Cubs went 14-11 in September. They entered the month 0.5GB of the Giants and won 2 out of 3 against them to open the month. They then swept the Reds and extended the lead. The Cubs went through a rough stretch losing 4 in a row to COL and STL.

The Cubs entered the final series of the year VS STL(100-59). They were 2GB of the WC against SF.

The Brewers(100-59) play the Giants to wrap up there season. So all 4 teams are fighting for a division and the 2nd wild card spot.

Cubs won game 1 8-5 vs STL and lost the next game 3-2. The Cubs were 1GB heading into the final game, and unfortunately they were not able to win, and lost 4-2. Putting an end to the Cubs season and this leads to the Cubs missing the postseason for the 2nd year in a row.

After starting 24-7 and coming out hot, the Cubs and there fans have to be extremely disappointed in the outcome of this season. (89-73) is not a bad season, but it was not enough to capture a playoff appearance and it remains to be seen what kind of moves take place in the offseason to get the Cubs another step forward.

Cubs finish the season (89-73) and miss the playoffs by 1 game.

                  Notable Performers:
OF Henry Browning (.293/31HR/80RBI/59SB) (ALL STAR)
OF Juan Soto (.293/39HR/101RBI) (ALL STAR)
                  3B Miguel Sano (.310/34HR/74RBI) (107 Games)
                  SS Javier Baez (.288/31HR/92RBI)
                  1B Devin Jackson (.266/28HR/72RBI)
                  SP Julio Urias (14-11, 3.05ERA, 217K’s)
                  SP Jose Berrios (13-9, 4.01 ERA, 198K’s)
CP Clyde Booker (68IP, 86K’s, 2.26 ERA, 47SVS) (ALL STAR)

                  Thoughts:

The Cubs made a big splash in the offseason that resulted in them signing superstar OF Juan Soto. They hoped it would push the team back to the top, and in the first month of the season it did. The months of May-July were another story, and even the months the Cubs were above .500 they always seemed to be floating along. Never really getting back into the rhythm they had early in the season.

The Cubs were top 10 in every major offensive category outside of two big ones which is OBP and AVG.

The pitching on the other hand took a big step back this year. While no starter had a horrible year, only 1 had a good year. Urias was the only starter with an ERA under a 4. The bullpen was shaky at best outside of Booker, Reese and Villar.

The pitching needs to see an improvement, but everybody is on schedule to come back next season. What can the Cubs do to get better? Notable veterans that are going to free agency is Kyle Schwarber and Whit Merrifield. Schwarber has been a life-long Cub and has manned the Catcher position for the team for a while, it will be something to look out for if 1st RD pick in 2025 Johnny Benson wants to take over.

                  Cubs look on to 2026.

                    PITTSBURGH PIRATES FRANCHISE

                    August 30, 2020

Pirates win 2 of 3 against the already-eliminated Cardinals in St. Louis. So make that a 4-2 road trip, a nice rebound after losing 3 of 4 to the lowly Marlins at home just a week ago.

Someone finally snapped the Reds‘ winning streak, so we inch a bit closer in the division at 4.5 out. Pirates still holding the top wild card spot by 1.5.

Our top pitchers came up big again in St. Louis; Sean Manaea pitched 7 innings with 11 K’s and one run allowed to win game 2 and Keone Kela earned the save in both wins. Since my two best pitchers happen to be a couple of bada$$ Hawaiian dudes, I feel like they need some sort of gimmicky nickname at this point. TBD.

Manaea has been so good, I’m considering going 2008 CC Sabathia mode with him and pushing him up to a 3-day rest schedule for the month of September.

Also need to shout out former Pirate villain, and current Pirate hero, Derek Dietrich. Since coming over to PIT via an August waiver claim, Dietrich has hit THREE pinch-hit, game-winning or game-tying home runs in the 8th inning or later. He’s been super clutch, and is slugging over .600 with the Pirates through about 50 AB’s.

We made another waiver claim, nabbing LHP Mike Montgomery from the Royals. Montgomery signed as a free agent with KC before the season, and with the Royals already eliminated, they cut him loose a month early to make room for some youngsters they’d like to have a look at. In swingman duty for the Royals, Montgomery has posted a 5.17 ERA and 4.63 FIP through 115 IP. A shade below replacement level, but we’ve really struggled to find a competent replacement for the injured Trevor Williams in the rotation.

Steven Brault goes back to the bullpen (where he was much more effective) and Chad Kuhl goes back to AAA. Montgomery arrives just in time to qualify for the postseason roster if we make it, and we can never have enough lefties so we’ll get a good look at him.

The Pirates return home to host the Brewers and Braves to kick off September.

Tough break, I have the opposite play out I usually get off to great starts but my guys cool down in July. Usually my record doesn't reflect as the central has been trash but my lineup always slumps second half. Have any strategies going into the office season or you going to roll the dice with your rotation. Hendricks and darvish are on the last legs of their contracts for my franchise, since I kept Bryant willson swcharber and co. The rotation is going Look like a daycare with youngster being ran out everyday as I won't have the budget to sign top arms.

Yeah it was heartbreaking, but I love the challenge. I had feeling like I had a missed season, so I am hoping to bounce back fully the next season.

I like my team, but with the pitching #'s last year I would not mind bringing in a solid vet so solidify the rotation a bit. That would push one of the youngsters out, but it may be necessary.

This FA class is going to be massive and I wish I could jump in the pool, but with the Soto signing last year it makes it tough.

                          The Amazins

                          Mets Sweep Phillies
                          March 30, 2024

The Mets took care of the Phillies, sweeping the three game series and extending their early season winning streak to six games. The Mets sole loss came on Opening Day.

The Mets seized game 1 in the bottom of the 9th thanks to an RBI double by RF Braxton Davidson. Davidson has been slotted in the second spot in the order, and he's been a terror at the top of the order thus far. In 27 AB, he's hitting .407 with 9 runs scored and 5 RBI, and his OPS his over 1.000.

A breezy 5-1 victory in the second game of the series was followed up by a 4-3 win in Amir Garrett's second start of the year. He looked much more like the CY Young winner of last year, pitching six innings and striking out 7, while only surrendering one run on four hits.

After a day off, the Mets are hitting the road for the first time this season and are headed to Washington. The Nationals are 0-7 on the young season, and make up 7 of the Mets next 10 games. Those other three games are in Philly, making the Mets first 17 games all against NL East foes. The Mets are primed to jumpstart their 2024 campaign and put themselves in the driver's seat in the division early.

Walker Buehler will get the start in Game 1 of the series. In his first start of the year, he threw 7 innings, striking out 5, and giving up 2 runs in a 7-2 Mets win against the Marlins.

The North Siders continued their dominance in May as the club went 20-8 over the course of the month. The lineup has been a death trap for opposing pitchers as they the Cubs currently lead all of baseball in average, slugging and homerun; they are in the top 10 SB OBP and RBI’s. Kris Bryant continues to crush as he is ended May hitting .330 at the top of the lineup. Initially the plan was for Bryant to have some spot starts in the outfield but free agent signee Justin Turner been hard to keep out of the lineup as he has absolutely racked to start the year. Turner started the season being inserted into the starting lineup against lefties posted at .385 batting line. Due to this he has found more playing time at 3rd when Oscar Colas is not in the lineup. Even though Turner doesn’t have the range or arm of Bryant the Cubs continue to excel in the field as they are in the top five of fielding percentage in the NL. Part of this is due to the duo of Baez and Hoerner holding down the middle part of the infield. The cubs mission to give Nico consistent time at 2nd has paid off as he ended May batting .291 to go along with 10 home runs.

The pitching staff has come back to earth slightly as Kyle Hendricks has not been able to repeat his past performance. The last 2 years he has posted ERA under 3 but as the seasons marches into June the righty has a ERA over 4.3. the Cubs feel that he will be able to find success down the road as his has been able to match his low WHIP of previous seasons. Rookie Andre Charcin has struggled with a ERA over 6 but the front office seams poised to go through the growing pain with their 2020 first round pick. David Ross gave the lefty side arm thrower a vote of confidence, “his stuff has been good but we have to make sure we put him in the right spots to keep his confidence up. Andrew Miller has continued his form as ERA is under 1 and is averaging 2 strike outs per inning.

The trio of Miller, Turner and Justin Verlander has the baseball world wondering if the fountain of youth is located in Chicago. The 3 are pushing 40 but have found success despite being at the age where most well past their prime. Verlander is the defacto 6th starter but arguable his pitching like an Ace. After struggling with loss of velocity last year and a ERA* over 4.5, Verlander has been able to post a ERA of 3.30 including a 15 strike out performance against the Pirates; the big right hander just missed the complete game going to the 9inning before giving up a RBI double. Asked after the game what the key success has been Verlander expressed gratitude that the club gave him a chance, "I didn't have any guarantees when I signed on not a lot of teams but I had to bet on myself. They had some young arms in spring training itching to make the club that definitely pushed me. Being in a unique situation like this and having extra rest certainly helps but those young guys, Brailyn and de la cruz definitely pushed me to see what's left in the tank."

The lead the central by 7 games ahead of the pirates. The rest of the central sits below 500 as the reds and Cardinals especially have disappointed. St. Louis started the rebuild after training Goldschmidt in '20; after a waste season last year they looked to be players for the post season after signing Jorge Soler from KC but things have not gone according to plan as they sit near the bottom of the divison It's still early but at this point it looks like the a 2 team race. The Josh bell continues to surge as he has the early lead in the triple crown.

Hello All, Entering MLB20 I vowed to dive deep into my franchise after being a big DD player last year and neglected my annual franchise. This year after playing DD the first month or so, I started my 30 team franchise.

30 Team control including, correct equipment(brands, Team Color 3 for all MLB players), all Position Players have 99 durability to start the year, Correct 40 Man, Lineups and Rotations (set to manual so the CPU will not change), Injuries ON.

With quarantine and No MLB season up to this point, my strategy going into this franchise to get the most out of it and satisfy my baseball cravings for the summer was to not only play all 162 with the Mets which I have done each of the last 4 years, but I wanted to get more involved with the rest of the MLB. Previous years I have done the sporadic player lock with a star player, or played a random game if it was a good pitching matchup or rivalry game.

This year, I've taken it up a notch and set up a plan to play 1 Player Locked game (position player or pitcher), 1 other game in the MLB, and the Mets game for that day.

It's created a ton of storylines, highlights and fun/torturous moments including walk-off HR with Acuna, Trevor Story hitting for the cycle, and a 4 HR game by Alonso.

So far, I am just coming out of the all star break and am sitting tied for first with the Phillies. Other division leaders are the Astros, Twins, Red Sox, Cubs and Padres. Both the Dodgers and Yankees are struggling mightily at around .500. Alonso and Trout are leading their leagues in HR with Kershaw and Berrios are favorites for the CY Young.

I'll drop by later when I get through the trade deadline, I do it all manually by looking at buyers/sellers/pending FA/minor league systems and try to make the most realistic trades.

I have also created an excel spreadsheet to keep my progress for me to look back on and to keep me from overplaying with the same/players too much throughout the year. You'll see some boxes are underlined, that's when I save the video, I've uploaded it to my computer and can click on it to view. For example, May 2nd i hit a walkoff HR with Hiura, I saved that clip and linked it to that game on the spreadsheet. (I can figure out a way to attach if anyone would like to use it)

Sounds like a lot of fun. The Excel file brings back memories of me filling notebooks with stats, ideas, etc. for the sports games back in the NES/SNES/Genesis days.
