Help! How do I make a two way player in franchise? I made a pitcher, he has started three games on the mound, has over 20 innings pitched, has also started over 20 games at DH with 3 at bats in each of those games. How come the two way player thing hasn’t unlocked yet? Thanks!

Yankees Win 2 of 3 @ Orioles As Calendar Flips To July

We’ve finally reached July and the first half is almost over with only 8 games left to go before we hit the All Star Break. Trade market is about to start heating up.

        Top Yankees:
        Gleyber Torres 310\408\638 28 HR’s, 70 RBI’s, 323 AB’s.
        Aaron Judge 286\368\569, 25 HR’s, 59 RBI’s, 339 AB’s.
        Giancarlo Stanton 291\375\589, 26 HR’s, 61 RBI’s, 326 AB’s.
Gerrit Cole 10-4, 2.94 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 150 K’s. Leading CY Young Race
        Tommy Kahnle 0.64 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 35 K’s, 28 IP.

        Our Early Trade Deadline Overview:
A Potential need to target would possibly be a top of the rotation arm to pair with Cole for the playoff run. This is where the loss of Sevy to TJ surgery really hurts. Might be able to get by with a playoff rotation of Cole, Paxton, Tanaka, and Happ/Montgomery/Schmidt, but being able to slide Paxton and Tanaka down a slot would be more comfortable. Reds Trevor Bauer would be the obvious answer, and with the Reds sitting 19 games out of the Central and 16 games out of the WC, they’ll very likely be selling soon.

One other move we could look to make is adding an IF. Losing LeMahieu for the season was a pretty big blow. Even though Ryan Goins has been solid for us, the IF is pretty thin now. With Wade recalled to replace Goins on the bench, there’s really no ‘next man up’ in the minors in case of another injury.

A possible target could be the Rockies Daniel Murphy. Murphy is 35 and on an expiring contract and he’s a lefty pull hitter who still has some pop in his bat and makes good contact. His swing should play well in Yankee Stadium. A very clutch player with a 2015 NLCS MVP Award. He’s switched mostly to 1B but if we acquired him he would likely move to being more of a 2B. Would be a good fit depending on their asking price.

Next up: A big 3 game series on the road against the 52-35 Blue Jays who only trail us by 6 games. Then after a off day we meet the 37-50 Mets back in NY at YS for a quick 2 game series. After that, the 43-45 Rangers arrive for a 3 game series that will take us into the ASB.

        News:
Yankees C Gary Sanchez due back from Broken Ankle in 1-6 days.

And the player needs to play 20 games at a position in the field. DH does not count.

Cardinals swept by Rockies in Colorado

The Cardinals (14-8) not only saw their 10 game winning streak get snapped by the Rockies, but they left on a 3 game losing streak after being swept.

The Cardinals lost each game due to different issues, whether it was starting pitching getting beat up, bullpen blow ups, or the offense just not generating any runs, nor hits.

Game 1 was on the offense as the Cardinals were shut out in Coors field and held to just 4 hits, all singles. The Rockies weren't much better as they only pushed 3 across the plate, but they ended the day with 12 hits. Unfortunately for them, they hit into 3 traditional double plays and a strike'em out, throw'em out double play.

Game 2 saw Kyle Funkhouser give up two solo homeruns in a start that was a struggle for him, but he left in the 7th with the lead. Jonny Venters got the final out in the 7th and pitched a perfect 8th. The Cardinals were up 5-2 when Jordan Hicks was given an opportunity to save the game. He got one out, but then allowed 2 straight hits. He was pulled for Michael Wacha who struck out Grant Lavigne and had 2 on with 2 outs before giving up a 3 run walkoff homerun to Nolan Jones to end the game.

Game 3 saw Jack Flaherty just get beat up as the Rockies scored 8 runs on 11 hits thru 3 innings on Flaherty. The bullpen did their best to keep things from getting too far out of hand, but Matheny tried to protect the pen as the Cardinals are not off Monday. The Rockies ended up winning by a final of 11-4.

The Cardinals will return home for a 3 game series with the Reds.

              Jay’s Cubs Wrap Up: 2022

Cubbies Early Buyers as All Star Game Approaches

As the Calendar rolled into July the Cubs sit atop of baseball as they have the best record in baseball. Conventional wisdom is that you don’t mess up a good thing but the Cubs looked to tweak their roster to set them up for a long run in the playoffs. With 8 games before the All Star game there were a few names on the block for the North Siders. The first move came 5 days before the midsummer classic as the Cubs traded reliever Chris Martin, backup catcher Victor Caratini and a minor league arm to the Indians for flamethrower Emmanuel Clause. The Indians were looking to keep pace with a Twins club that has the second best record in baseball but look vulnerable as they had quite a few players on the IR for extended time. Cleveland had been early players in the trade market after making a move in June for Whit Merrifield; the lineup still left something to be desired after they lost Lindor to free agency last season. Caratini has been produced in a back up role but with the payroll skyrocketing next year and the emergence of Miguel Amaya the switching hitting catcher was expendable as the clubs looked to get a return instead of losing him to free agency. Clause has struggled early in his career but has loads of potential - the right hander is out of options but will have time to improve on a ERA north of 6.

The Cubs also made a second move to strengthen the bullpen as the club traded two minor leaguers As Carl Edwards Jr returned to the Windy City. Edwards had come up with the club and was apart of the ‘16 World Series but a loss of control saw him get shipped out to San Diego where he had bounced around before trying to reinvigorate his career in Seattle. “It was a rough time when i got traded out of Chicago but this is a business and you have to produce. I think i learned a lot going through that adversity and i’m happy to be back in the thick of a playoff run again” Edwards said on returning to Chicago. Edwards is on the last year of his deal so it remains to be seen if he will be a rental for this year or stick around in his 2nd stint in Chicago; he currently has a 2.47 ERA in 30 innings.

Many think this will be the roster the rest of the way but insiders have mentioned hearing more being made depending on how July shakes out. Dee Gordon continues to struggle. After last year’s bounce back year he has fallen off greatly as he has batted injury and lost his center field stop to Ian Happ. While the front office would not comment on potential moves, sources have said the team may look to bring up Brennen Davis to prepare him for taking over in Center in ‘23. Gordon has stolen his share of bases and near the top of the league in that category his ability to get on base has left a lot to be desired as he has been batting around the mendoza line much of the year.

The Starting rotation has waned as the year has gone on and a log jam in the minors may spur a move. ESPN’s Buster Olney had reported that Alex Wood may be on the market but Theo Esptein denied that report. Many would reason moving on from Wood would allow the cubs to take a look at Brailyn Marquez. The young left lander made the Southern League all star game and recently was promoted to triple A. Some theorized that a move could be made to prep him as he will be needed to help provide youth to an aging rotation that features 2 players over the age of 35.

Cubs lead the way for All Star Game in Baltimore, Schwarber and Contreras Put on a Show

Willson Contreras, Javier Baez and Kris Bryant got the nod as All Star starters and Kyle Scwarber was selected for the Home Run Derby. Schwarber put on a show in the 2nd round as he hit 20 bombs but failed to take home the crown as Bryce Harper out hit in the finals. Willson Contreras also put on a show as he hit one home run and showed off his arm gunning down 2 men trying to steal on him as he came away with the MVP of the game; the NL survived a late rally to win 8 to 6.

The Trade deadline was relatively quiet as most teams chose to stand pat. Brewers have been able to creep back into the wildcard race and were aided by the Cubs as they sent Tommy La Stella for a minor league outfielder. La Stella had spent the majority of the season at Triple A Iowa besides a brief call up due to injury. He had produced there with a .285 batting line but the cubs appeared set with their current array of bench players. With the move La Stella will move to the starting lineup of the Brewers as they look to overtake the Pirates for 2nd place and hunt down the NL west teams occupying the Wildcard spots.

The cubs kept the firm grasp on their lead in the central. Gordon was able to light a fire and improved his play enough to keep his bench spot. 2 days before the deadline Alex Wood took the mound in what would be his last game as a Cub. in a rain soaked game the lefty struggled against the surging brewers as he gave up 6 runs in 4 innings. The Cubs were able to stage a rally after a 90 minute rain delay but Kimbrel gave away the game on his 5 blown save on the year. The Cubs shipped Wood to the Phils for minor league player Adonis Medina and South Korean outfielder Nelson Ku. In a corresponding move Marquez was called up to take his spot in the rotation.
Around baseball Degrom continues to dominate as he is 13 and 3 with a 1.98 ERA; Mike Trout has cooled but still leads all of baseball with a 389 average.

                TRUE TO THE BLUE
                2020 Seattle Mariners (14-29)

Around the League Friday, May 8th, 2020
An inter-division trade occurred today between the Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays of the AL East. Baltimore sent 25-year old, switch-hitting outfielder Anthony Santander to Tampa Bay for their no. 10 prospect Greg Jones. Santander, in his second season as a full time starter, has batted .244/.288/.463 with 7 HR and 18 RBI through 32 games and will be under team control until 2024. The Rays will add him to an outfield mix that includes the struggling Austin Meadows (.177/.255/.365) and Kevin Kiermaier (.175/.252/.270). The 21-year old Jones, a switch-hitting shortstop, is regarded as one of the best athletes in the minor leagues and projects as an everyday starter at the major league level.

Mariners Mash Their Way to Mother’s Day Victory Monday, May 11th, 2020
On Sunday, the Mariners delivered their best offensive performance of the 2020 season: a 13-6 victory over the first place Houston Astros on the road that forced a series split. Patrick Wisdom had four hits on the day, including 3 doubles, 4 RBI, and 2 runs scored. The M’s were also treated to a 3-run, no doubt homerun from Daniel Vogelbach, a solo shot from Kyle Lewis, and a Mitch Haniger RBI double that extended his current hitting streak to 14 games. Every Mariner recorded a hit in the effort, and shortstop J.P. Crawford and utility-man Austin Nola each pushed their batting average above .200. It was just their third win in May, in which the M’s are now 3-7, but it should raise the team’s confidence before they return home on Tuesday for a 3 game series versus Oakland, followed by another against Detroit, both of whom hold losing records.

More recent highlights from my Red Sox Franchise

The Red Sox got some nice defensive plays in the same game with Bogaerts making a diving catch on a flare into LF to rob Arraez of a base hit and Verdugo would rob Kepler of a base hit on a liner towards the RF line

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

Philles played the role of "spoiler" very well. They took 3 out of 4 in the 4 game series.

Game 1: We were plum bled 8-4, 4HR's were given up. SP Siroka went 1.1IP,7H,1K,4ER,& 0BB.

Game 2: We got an outstanding start by Folty: 7.0IP,3H,2ER & 7K. Phillies Eflin countered well with 6.1IP,4H,ER,2BB & 6K. We were down 2-1 going into the 9th inning. With 1 out and J-Hey at the plate, he banged his 7th HR of the year tying the game @ 2-2. Bttm 9th RP Guerrieri couldn't preserved the tie. He gave up 3 straight hits including the GW hit by 3B Franco. Phillies won 3-2.

Game 3: We lost 3-1. SP Soroka outing was such a quick hook. I saw that his stamina bar was full. So I selected him to start, saving Teheran for the 3 game series vs. the Nats. He pitched better, going 6.0IP giving up 3ER.

Game 4: Looking at the sweep. SP Newcomb on the bump vs Arrieta. Newcomb came up big blanking the hot Phils thru 6 innings. We stranded way to many runner's(12), scoring only 3 runs, but that was plenty. CP Kimbrel finally got in on the action and K'd the side for his 43rd SV. We won 3-0!

Headed to D.C to take on the now WC leading Nationals. Which I trailed by 2.0 gms. My record is now 81-67. Actually I am currently in the 3rd slot behind the hott Reds by 0.5GB.
Only 14 games remaining in the season, this is last series vs the Nats. If I win the series vs. them in D.C. It would put me back in the WC top 2 spots.

Headed out of town with the old lady. Going to take a break from the Show for a couple of days. Get my mine right for that pivotal series vs. the Nats.

                      Jay’s Cubs Wrap Up: 2022

                      Rookie struggles in Debut

Brailyn Marquez took the mound in his first big league start after replacing Alex Wood. the lefty hander struggled with nerves as his pitched on the road against Cincinnati. Marquez only last 4 innings as he gave up 6 runs including 3 homeruns. While Brailyn likely is not in the plans to make the playoff roster, the Cubs look to get more out of the youngster as the season goes on.

When the schedule was released it appeared that August would be a key month for the NL central as the Cubs would play the Reds, Brewers and St. Louis in several series during the course of the month. As the season went along it showed that August would likely be a time for the Cubs to cement their lead in the division. While the Brewers have overtaken the Pirates for second place, the Reds and Cardinals have had disappointing years as they find themselves well below .500 and at the bottom of the Central. The Cubs were able to continue their winning ways as the lineup was able to fight off the 2nd half slump that has occurred the last 2 seasons. Javy Baez was able to raise his batting line to over .300 after hitting around .280 much of the year.

Marquez bounces back in 2nd start

Marquez’s 2nd start went much better as he settled down as he went the distance for the complete game shutout as he gave up only 3 hits on 2 walks with 9 strikeouts for his first win. As fate would have it his 3rd start would be against the man he took it from. The Phillies still find themselves in 3rd place of the East but have gained 2 games on the Mets and Braves. Their only chance to make the playoffs will be to win the East as the NL West likely will have 3 playoff teams between the Dodgers, D-backs and Padres. The Phils and Wood ended up getting the better of the cubs as Wood went 6 innings on 4 hits and 7k’s while Marquez went 6 and ⅔ with 5 walks and 4 strikeouts but gave up 4 runs including a 2 run bomb to Bryce Harper.

As the league prepares for roster expansion in September, the North Siders went 19 and 10 August and will have the NL locked up in the first week of August. The Cubs will have ample competition to figure out their playoff rotation as they will face 4 teams vying for the playoffs as they have series against the D-Backs, Rays, Brewers and Dodgers to end the year.

                        Jay’s Cubs Wrap Up: 2022

Davis & Kell get the call up

Brennen Davis and 2nd basemen Richard Kell got the call to the majors as the roster expanded to 28. Brennen started the year in AA Tennessee and briefly got a call up when Gordon and Revere were sidelined but his stint only lasted 2 games due to a broken hand. The center fielder had started the year strong but had cooled down the stretch, at the time of his call up in May he was batting .320 and led the Southern League in stolen bases; but had a batting line of .266 at the end of August. Many critics argued that Davis should have stayed with the Smokies due to the drought he has been in but whether he is ready for it or not, Davis will likely patrol the outfield for the Cubs next year as Revere and Gordon are on the last years of their contracts. Davis likely will make the playoff roster to serve as a strong arm in center to end games.

Richard Kell, the Cubs 5th pick in the 2021 draft, has tore up the minors in his short time. The 21 right hander was drafted from Cal and started the year in Tennessee where he hit .373 through the first half. He was promoted to Iowa and produced there as well going .345 before getting the call up on Sept. 1st. Kell can also play 3rd doesn’t have much in the way of power but has shown the ability to hit for contact. He also possesses a strong arm but will need to refine his glove if he is able to turn into an everyday player.

Up Start Diamondbacks Head to Wrigley in contention for NL West Crown
Arizona arrived in Chicago slated to play 4 against the Cubs as they hold a slim lead in the NL West. The Dodgers have snuck back in the race and currently are tied for 2nd with the Padres as they are 1.5 games behind. All three teams will likely make the playoffs; the Brewers have come on during the second half but it would take a complete collapse by one of the west contenders for them to sneak into the playoffs

In Game one Madison Bumgarner faced off against the cubs in what may be an early preview of the playoffs. Both pitchers dominated the respective lineups as the game was scoreless through six innings. Miguel Amaya continued his impressive campaign as he was able to get the first runs of the game with a 2 out double the scored Javy Baez to run Bumgarner from the game. Hendricks took the mound in the 7th but gave up a solo shot to Kevin Cron to tie the game. In the bottom half of the 7th Richard Kell was able to connect with a fastball that hugged the line to stay fair for a 2 run homerun. Miller and Kimbrel were able to hold the D-Backs at bay for a scoreless 8th and 9 to seal the win.

In Game 2, AJ Puk faced off against Luke Weaver. Kris Bryant got the Cubs going as he took the 2nd pitch of the game to left field for solo shot. As the Cubs looked to jump to an early lead after a Rizzo single but they faced a scare as Weaver threw a 2-1 fastball inside that plunked catcher Willson Contreras on his elbow Willson was not able to stay in the game as the Cubs would have to wait to see if MRI results land the slugger on the IR. Puk got his revenge as he ended up hitting two D-Backs as he lasted 5 innings. The game was tied 4-4, Miguel Amaya was able to connect on his second home run of the game to make it 6-4. Miller gave up a solo shot in the 8th but Kimbrel was able to escape 9th unscathed after allowing runners to get on 1st and 3rd. The North Siders caught a lucky break as the MRI was negative and Contreras is not expected to miss extended time.

In Game 3 Colás took the mound and pitched 6 solid innings as he struck out 4. Amaya came up big again hitting another homerun as the Cubs came away with the 7-2 victory. Amaya is in the running to cap off his 1st season with Rookie of the Year honors; he will have some work to do as many pundits have him sitting 2nd being Marlins outfield JJ Bedlay. With Contreras injury the young catcher may have the opportunities to make up the gap. The Cubs win brings their total 101 and they sit 5 games ahead of the Red Sox and Twins for the best record in baseball. In the 4th game of the series the Dbacks got to Brailyn Marquez early as the lefty continued to struggle with control as he gave up 5 walks in 5 innings. The D-Backs were able to win the final game of the series 10-1 but now trail the Dodgers and Padres in the NL West.

I dont know where to put this so I am going to put it here because it is franchise related.

I just rebranded my team and can you not use a team's other uniforms once you rebrand?

Unfortunately when you rebrand a team you lose all their other uniforms and only have the new home and away uniforms you created. Hopefully they’ll change that for next year’s game but we’ll see.

                              Cardinals sweep Reds

The Cardinals (17-8) swept the Reds in St.Louis to kick off the week and increase their lead to 3 1/2 games over the Brewers in the Central.

The Cardinals won all 3 games by one run and in all 3 games, the bullpen gave up 2 runs in the 9th to almost blow the game. 25 games into the season and once again an inconsistent bullpen is a concern for the Cardinals, like the past few previous seasons.

The series saw Samuel Franco cool off as he only recorded one hit this series, but Nolan Gorman played well as he recorded 3 hits in the series finale on Wednesday afternoon which included his 2nd homerun of the season.

The Cardinals are off on Thursday and then will host the Marlins for a weekend series.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Anyone know what could have caused this? I’m facing the Dodgers in a three game series, game 1 Walker Buehler starts and pitches in to the 8th, next game Urias starts and game three Buehler is starting again. There were no off days so he’s pitching on one day rest
