Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread
I have a very simple question. Given all the interest in Franchise, has it ever been considered as justifying having its own forum like Rosters or Sliders?

Cardinals drop opening series to Brewers
The Cardinals dropped their opening series of 2028 to the Brewers after only winning one game of a 3 game series.
The Cardinals offense was non-existent on Opening Day as Kyle Funkhouser pitched 7 strong innings giving up just one run on 5 hits while striking out 5 and issuing no free passes. But the offense was stagnant and only able to tie the game in the 7th with a solo homerun by Devon Snow. Raisel Iglesias would give up a run in the 8th and Jose Alvarado one in the 9th as the Cardinals fell 3-1.
Jack Flaherty was just as good if not better than Funkhouser as he pitched 7 innings himself striking out 10 while issuing 2 free passes. He did surrender 2 runs on 7 hits, but was in control most of the game. Roberto Osuna and Jordan Hicks would close the door in the 8th and 9th to earn the Cards first victory. The offense was ignited by Harrison Bader who went 3 for 4 with a homerun and 4 RBI's in the Cardinals 5-2 victory.
The series finale on Sunday saw Junior Fernandez struggle only going 4 innings giving up 5 runs on 3 homeruns and he committed 2 errors in the field. Fernandez struck out one but issued 3 walks. The offense tried to stay in it with Devon Snow leading the way with 2 hits and 3 RBI's, but it was too little as the Cardinals fell 5-3.
The Cardinals will hit the road and travel to the Bronx for a 3 game series with the Yankees. The Yankees are 0-4 on the season after getting swept by the Blue Jays.
Probable starters for series:
Austin Gomber
Carlos Martinez

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread
I am running an Indians franchise kind of as a "what if" from the year after they almost won the WS. I went 103-59 in the regular season playing every 6th game and Quick Managing the rest. I'd play parts of the other games in key moments. Won the ALDS 3-1. Now find myself down 2-0 in the LCS against the Astros and all the little things that I was concerned about from the season are rearing their ugly head. Bullpen got torched in game 2. Offense hasn't had timely hitting. George Springer has 5 HRs in two games. After Game 1 I thought maybe he'd cool down. Nope, first AB in game 2 he hits a solo shot. In his second AB I truly tried to pitch around him but he hit a pitch out of the zone over the fence in right for another HR. In the 8th against one of my relievers who DOMINATED right handed hitters all year he hit another solo shot.
I will pretty much be walking him the rest of the series now. Hoping we can get back into it in game 3 in Houston. We were much better on the road this year so we will see.

Cardinals lose Trevor Rosenthal for the season
It didn't take long for the injury bug to strike the Cardinals this season, as the Cardinals have lost veteran reliever Trevor Rosenthal for the season due to a torn labrum. Rosenthal was injured in the 8th inning Monday night against the Yankees. The Cards were trailing 15-0 at the time, and Rosenthal was working his 2nd inning of relief.
The Cardinals signed Rosenthal to a one year deal this offseason to try and bolster their bullpen with veteran arms, but will now either turn to Ryan Helsley or Alvaro Seijas as a replacement.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Jay’s Cubs Wrap Up: 2026 Season
Life has gotten busy so doing breakdowns has been limited with having to coach my son’s youth team. I’m still on the fence on whether I am going to get ‘21; I probably will at some point but man I hate that I can't bring this team over. Especially since the ‘21 Cubs roster will be a poo poo platter and I'm curious how bad the ratings will be based on how poorly Bryant, Baez and others performed last year. I feel like I have my sliders and settings perfected and every game is different; just when I think I am on good pitches and excelling I get shut out or blasted. I am going to try to get at least one more season in between now and 21’s release then i’ll decide what i am going to do
The Good
Chicago sits at 31-17 and is tied for the best record in baseball in the 3rd week of May.
Bryant and Contreras are having great seasons so far. Contreras has been heating up and leads the NL All star race for catchers. Locking up Bryant has been the right call so far as he is having a bounce back season. Last year he hit under .260 but this year his average returned to .290-.300 and currently leads the NL in home runs with 16.
Brailyn Marquez and Jacob DeGrom have ERA under 2.5 and Brailyn currently leads in wins and is in the top 5 for K’s Cubs also have a nice dilemma that Adonis Medina and Micheal Kopech have excelled in spot duties. Both have done well out of the pen in long relief and starting.
Tatis Jr has been hot and cold. He started hitting .350 then went through a bad stretch but has bounced back to hit .280 in the lead off spot. Every at bat is exciting with him but unfortunately its been a lot of all or nothing and a lot of balls are hit with power but right at people.
Danny Santana - he doesn’t have great ratings but he probably has been most consistent. He would have the highest batting average if he had enough at bats and when he is on his my most consistent with multi hit games.
The Bad
With the heavy spending the last few years I did not go out and get veterans on the bench. A lot of young kids have not produced as well and i don’t have any go at bats on the bench that i am confident in. I have some promising players on the farm but no one has really been able to produce or is ready for the show.
Injuries - my post season runs have caught up and a lot of players have spent time on the IL early in the year. Baez, Tatis and Contreras have been out but avoided the IL but Hendricks, DeGrom and Puk have missed multiple starts already and spent time on the IL. My rookie first basemen, Lew Cannon was playing great and had 4 home runs including 2 walk offs but has been out since the end of April with a shoulder injury he is set to return in about 2 weeks and I definitely need his at bat. Brennan Davis has steadily improved and led the league in SB but broke his shin last night and will be out for 2 months. Unfortunately i don’t have any replacements for center field so we have a rookie that isn’t ready filling in and the speedster Valeaquez - but he is awful in the field.
Anthony Rizzo started off to a solid start but has been in a spell he currently is hitting under .240.
Kyle Hendrick started strong in his first 2 starts but his last 3 have been rough; he currently has an ERA over 5 and has gotten hit hard. I thought maybe he turned a corner in the last start when he got to the 7th only giving up 1 run before he quickly loaded the bases and gave up the grand slam with 2 outs.
While we are tied with the best record, the team we are tied with are the Brewers. Yelich is raking for them and currently hitting .385 they don't have a lot of remarkable names but they produce and their bullpen and starting staff are solid. We just dropped 2 of 3 with them at Wrigley and are currently on a 4 game skid. While there is a gap at between us the rest of the division, the NL Central is the best in baseball 4 of the 5 teams have records over .500, in the Wildcard, Central teams are 1-2-3 in the standings and St. Louis is 2 games below .500
The Ugly
Javy Baez got 7 hits in his first 12-15 at bats then i feel like he got 3 more in his next 90 at bats . He has been super cold; I had half my rotation with a better average at one point as he dipped as low as .120-130s he has started to show signs of climbing out of the hole but still his only batting .170 on the year.
My bullpen is an absolute mess. With having 2 starts in the pen i have been reluctant to use them in short stints and my middle relief is struggling. 3 pitchers have ERA over 5 at the moment & Clase has already blown more saves than he did all of last year. Right now only Kyle Ryan and Underwood Jr are the arms that i can count on and even Ryan has blown 2 holds in a row. I do have a rookie and 2 players under 26 in relief so i’m hoping its growing pains but trades might be coming soon if things don’t improve. I’ll be limited in the moves I can make, I have prospects to trade but I can't take on much in the way of salary. At some point I think I have to move on from one of my younger starting arms to get a better set up man. Underwood has performed so far but there is a reason he is getting his real first taste of the show at age 30/31.Comment

Cardinals bats don't make trip...Cards drop series to Yankees in the Bronx
The Cardinals drop their second straight series to open the season, this time to the Yankees in the Bronx. The Cardinals were dominated in the series opener Monday night, losing 15-0. Game 2, they got a terrific start from Carlos Martinez (7 IP, 1 ER, 8 hits, 5 strikeouts, and 2 walks) and the bats did enough with Juan Fabregas hitting a 2 run bomb in the Top of the 11th to break a 2-2 tie, after Roberto Osuna lost the lead in the 8th. The series finale on Wednesday saw Kyle Funkhouser pitch 8 solid innings, but get no run support and this time the Cards would lose in extras, 2-1 after Dakota Hudson gave up a walk off double to Nick Williams.
The Cardinals will travel to Cincinnati to face the defending champion Reds in a 3 game weekend series.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread
Am I able to set lineups during Spring Training, and not have the AI undo it all as soon as the Regular Season begins?
I seem to remember that happening in previous years.
Also is there any crucial tips for maintaining a Franchise? I'm thinking of starting a Twins franchise and haven't really gone deep into franchise mode in quite a bit.
Edit: Oh, and what is the most accurate/up to date Rosters?Last edited by Stolm; 03-06-2021, 12:41 AM.Comment

Cards swept by Reds
The Cardinals atrocious start to the 2028 season continued in Cincinnati as they were swept by defending champion Reds.
The Cardinals scored just 3 runs in the series giving up 15. Jack Flaherty pitched a terrific series opener, but lost 1-0. Junior Fernadez got lit up for 2nd straight start as he lasted just 4 innings giving up 6 runs. Dakota Hudson was tagged in the series finale to the tune of 5 runs over 5 innings.
Offensively, there is nothing to talk about as this team right now cannot get a key base hit to save their life.
The Cardinals will head home for 9 game homestand that starts with a mini 2 game series against their arch rival Cubs.
This team needs to find offense and starting pitching outside of Funkhouser and Flaherty. If not, this season is going to be extremely long.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

lol
it's times like these where I look forward to playing AAA & AA games more than MLB games.
get an early jump on the 2029 season and start laying plans after the 2028 all-star break.
now that'll really make next season a looonng season
