Rangers End April At 15-17, 3rd Place In AL West

The first month of the 2021 season for these Texas Rangers has ended with....mixed results. We sit at 15-17, under 500, and 4.5 games behind the division leading LA Angels. The team has also fallen into a slump going 3-7 in their last 10 games.

Over the first month, this offense has established itself as one that lives and dies by the long ball. We rank 8th in the league in team HR’s with 51, but then it gets a bit ugly. We rank 25th in Batting Average, 29th in Hits, 29th in OBP, 30th in Stolen Bases, and 28th in Walks.

But, there is still reason to have a positive view of this team. Both Justin Turner and Carlos Santana have missed the past week or so of games, a huge blow to the lineup. Turner has just been activated off the IL, and Santana’s return is just days away as well. Another reinforcement is on the way after, as Mark Canha is set to return in 2-3 weeks after getting injured 2 games into the season.

RP’s Brandon Morrow and Justin Wilson Being Hit Hard
Both were signed over the offseason as part of a bullpen revamp, and so far....it hasn’t exactly worked out. The 35 year old Morrow has been mauled over 7.2 IP, allowing 10 runs on 10 hits. Meanwhile Wilson has given up 6 runs on 9 hits over 6.2 IP. There were hopes 1 of them could turn out to be a solid trade chip in July.

    Next up:
2 games @ 18-16 Oakland to open May, then it’s off to Detroit for 3 games vs the 11-22 Tigers.

    News:
Jose Leclerc, Nick Goody, and Tyler Clippard, Form Filthy Trio In Texas Bullpen
It’s only 1 month, but so far Leclerc has been back in his 2018 form pitching 11 innings having yet to allow a run and securing 7 saves. Goody has gone 13 innings allowing zero runs with 21 K’s. In 11 IP, Clippard has allowed just 2 runs while racking up 17 K’s.

      CENTER]Jay’s Cubs Wrap Up: 2024 [/CENTER]

NLCS set as Diamondbacks and Cubs fight for World Series Berth

The Cubs and Dbacks were set to start the best of 7 series with postseason glory on the line. With Betances still in the concussion protocol, Chicago made a roster move as Freddy Mendoza was removed in favor of Duane Underwood Jr. Underwood was able to get some time in the majors but spent most of his season in Triple A.
The Cubs would have Hendricks back on the mound as he would face Arizona’s Luke Weaver. Hendricks was able impeccable as he stymied the Dbacks for most of the game. He also was able to get the first run of the game in as he came to the plate on the in the second. After a walk by Brennan Davis, Hendricks was able to drive a liner over the short stop head for a double. The Cubs were able to add to their 1-0 lead in the 4th as Oscar Colas was able to smack a double that pushed it to 3-0. Hendricks would end his day after 6 innings as he gave up 3 hits walked no batters and struck out 6 as the Cubs came away on top in game 1, 3-0.

      Game 2
In game 2 The Cubs were not able to get enough out of DeGrom. The Cubs had the early 2-1 lead but DeGrom would end up getting peg with 5 runs in the 6th. Degrom was give up a walk and a hit and then a monster home run to Austin Meadows to right field to blow the door open. the Cubs did not have the bullpen arms warming up so Degrom tasks with finishing the inning and gave up another 2 runs before getting through the 6th. The Cubs were able to add another run to make it 6-4 but the Dbacks were able to escape Wrigley with the win as the series heads to the desert.

      NLCS heads West for Games 3, 4 & 5
In game 3 Brailyn Marquez would face Alex Young. Marquez would give up 2 walks in the 1st and allowed a run but then was dominate the rest of the way. He would end up pitching 6 innings and struck out 10 including a span of 6 in a row. Alex Young was able to pitch 4 scoreless innings until Brennan Davis walked and Bryant hit a 2-run home run in the 5th. The Cubs would expand on their lead in the 8th after Nico Hoerner lead off the inning with a triple; Contreras and Baez would go for back to back home runs to make it 5-1. Andre Chacin was on the close the game but proceeded to give up a 1 out blast to Ketel Marte to put the Diamond backs within striking distance. Emmanuel Clase was brought in and was able to get the final 2 outs as he shut the door on game 3 with a vicious cutter to Josh Rojas for the game ending K.
For Game 4 AJ Puk was up against steven Matz. The Dbacks were able to strike early again but Richard Kell, getting a rare post season start at 2nd tied it in the 2nd on a RBI single. With the game tied in the 6th Puk would unravel as he gave up 5 hits for 3 runs. The Cubs decided to not waste it’s bullpen as as Underwood would pitch the rest of the way as he would give up another 3 in 2 innings of work as Arizona ties the series at 2-2.
Many of the Cubs faithful were not happy that the Cubs kept Underwood in the previous move and essentially conceding game 4; but the Cubs were looking ahead and knew saveing their arms would likely be a key to the rest of the way as Oscar Colas would pitch game 5 but not be at full strength after playing the first 2 games in the outfield. The Cubs manager was hoping to get at least 4 innings out of the 2 way lefty but Colas giving the Cubs much more from the young Cuban star. Sonny Gray was on the mound for Arizona but had a rough day as he would not last through the 4th inning. Colas was able to give the Cubs 6 innings of scoreless ball as he allowed 2 hits and a walk and struck out 4. More impressive Colas lead the way as hit 2 home runs at the plate; a solo to take the 1-0 lead in the 2nd and another in the 4th for 2 runs. The Cubs would not be done at the plate as Brennan Davis continued to show extreme poise at the plate. The Cubs have hit Davis in the 9th spot of the lineup, but he might as well be the second lead off hitter as he has drawn 6 walks in the 4 games he has played in the series. His 2nd walk of the day set up a 2 run home run for Kris Bryant that put game 5 away. Chicago will head back to Chicago after the 5-0-win needing to win one more with their two Cy Young Finalist set to pitch in game 6 and game 7 if needed.

Leading 3-2, Cubs Look To Advance to World Series for 4th Straight time
Game 6 would be a repeat of starters as Weaver and Hendricks were on the bump. The Cubs struck first with a home run by Danny Santana that just tucked inside of the left field foul pole. In the 3rd the Cubs would get things rolling and Brennan Davis walked to leave off the inning and was able to steal 2nd. The cubs made it 2- after Davis was able to tag up to 3rd on a pop fly to right field and Rizzo allowed him score on a grounder to the 2nd basemen.
In the 4th the Dbacks were able to get to Hendricks as Ketel Marte would get on with a dribbler out in front of the plate, Contreras was not able to field it in time to get the runner at first. Austin Meadow would single, and Tristian Casa would drive in both on a double to tie the game.

The Cubs would respond in the 6th as Contreras got on with a double. The Diamondbacks would end Weavers day and bring in the left handle. Jose Abreu pinched hit for Schwarber but ended up popping up. Baez was able to draw the full count walk that would set up Oscar Colas. The Cubs elected to leave in Colas against the lefty and he was able to muscle a floater to right field right in front of Meadows. Meadows would end up miss playing the ball and it allowed Contreras to score from 2nd. Hendricks would get through the 7th on fumes but left with giving up 2 runs on 4 hits and a walk while striking out 8. Jovanny Cruz would give up a single to Marte with 2 outs but Marte would push towards 2nd and be thrown out to preserve the lead. In the 9th Clase would strike out Austin Meadows before allowing a double to Casas. After getting the strike out for the 2nd out the Cubs would elect to walk Tyler Callihan to face Carson Kelly. After getting Kelly to a quick 1-2 count Kelly was able to get a piece of a cutter in the zone but Hoerner was able to secure the catch in shallow right to advance the Cubs to the World Series.
The Cubs would have to wait to see who they would face as the ALCS would go a full 7 games. The Angels would fall in the first 2 games before evening the series. The squads would split games 5 and 6 but the Yanks were able to score 2 in top of the 9th to punch their ticket to the fall classic.

Well....I hadn't updated my offseason happenings because due to a mental error on my part, I saved over my offseason progress by accident by loading an old save and instead of backing out, actually saving it.

Thankfully, I have backup saves and all is not lost, but a majority of my offseason progress (all that occurred outside of exclusive contract negotiations) were wiped out.

At the moment, I haven't felt like going through it again, because I hate the feeling of things not playing out the same. And since I do single team control, I obviously cannot force things to repeat themselves. ]

It's gotten me so bummed that I've actually considered hanging up my carryover franchise and starting fresh when '21 drops later this year.

I can't believe I did this, I kick myself for even messing around and looking at something in an old save file.

Oh well, things happen and life goes on obviously, but damn if this isn't a punch in the gut. Just bummed at the moment.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I've had a similar issue before. You just need some time away so you can forget about what happened/pretend it was a bad dream.

Play another franchise, or even another game. If you haven't played it yet, I highly recommend Ghost of Tsushima. By the time you're done that, you'll be ready to pick up the carry over again.

Same here. It happens. I had made some big FA signings and negotiated a trade and lost it all a couple of seasons back. I was steamed, but after a week, went through the offseason again and honestly, I like the team I wound up with more than the one I saved over.

Starting my final MLB The Show 20 Franchise, this time with my PS5. Hoping to keep this one going and into MLB 21 next gen.
Starting with the Seattle Mariners. As an Oakland A's fan I have never tried playing with a division rival but trying to let that go and see how it goes.

How do you set your post season roster? I just got to the post season and it says only people on the MLB roster of Sept 1 are eligible. Does that mean I need to set my roster on 8/31? I had one of my September call ups have a nice month and I wanted him on the roster for the playoffs and it won’t let me add him

Yep that’s how the show has always been. Unless injury. Sucks when you have a star injured at the end of aug and he can’t be on the roster because he wasn’t there aug 31.

Yeah, the process has been a mess for years. I had a season where I lost a couple of players to injury and had to try and win a divisional series with a 23-man roster. I lost that series.

Seattle Mariners Franchise 2020 Season 1

Joining the MLB in 1977, The Seattle Mariners didn't field a winning team for the first 13 years of existence. It was 1991 when they went 83-79 a .512 winning percentage, yet still missed the playoffs. Not until 1995 did they qualify for their first postseasonin a shortened season going 79-66. They won the ALDS vs NYY and lost to Cleveland in the ALCS. After another 6 seasons of up and down play the Mariners fielded the most wins in a season with a record best 116-46 season in 2001. A team with the likes of Freddy Garcia, Jamie Moyer, Brett Boone, and rookie Ichiro Suzuki (Both ROY and MVP) managed by Lou Piniella, that was to be their year until they lost 4-1 in the ALCS to the New York Yankees. In the 19 years since, they haven't sniffed the playoffs and are currently on the longest drought for the playoffs in the MLB.
I am hoping I can right the ship and lead this team to some much needed happier times.

I started the playoffs last night after having the best offense in the league and deGrom won the Cy Young. deGrom gave up three runs, two earned over seven innings and Kyle Hendricks shut my offense down to give the Cubs a 3-1 win. My timing is totally screwed up now from facing a pitcher that topped out at 89mph and I don’t have much confidence in my rotation other than deGrom. This is going to be a tough series to pull off the comeback

After an unfortunate incident and mental error erased my previous offseason progress, I am re-starting tonight as I have calmed down and accepted that I cannot make things happen exactly the same as they did previously. So I've cleared that out of my mind, and will be starting my offseason over without any progress at all.

The Dodgers and Angels went on a tear this season, both winning 100+ games this season.

Nothing too drastic except for a trade with the Brewers just before the deadline as they were fighting for the division with the Cubs.
                              3B Kyle Seager (15HR .253AVG)
                              for
RF Avisail Garcia (9HR .244AVG) C Payton Henry (B prospect) RP Antoine Kelly (A prospect)

The Milwaukee Brewers upgrade at third base and move Garcia who is in the final year and a half of his deal. Probably just a 1 year rental for Seattle but the prospects look promising. This helps The Mariners shed some salary of a 33 yr old, on a team that's not going anywhere soon.
