Rangers End April At 15-17, 3rd Place In AL West
The first month of the 2021 season for these Texas Rangers has ended with....mixed results. We sit at 15-17, under 500, and 4.5 games behind the division leading LA Angels. The team has also fallen into a slump going 3-7 in their last 10 games.
Over the first month, this offense has established itself as one that lives and dies by the long ball. We rank 8th in the league in team HR’s with 51, but then it gets a bit ugly. We rank 25th in Batting Average, 29th in Hits, 29th in OBP, 30th in Stolen Bases, and 28th in Walks.
But, there is still reason to have a positive view of this team. Both Justin Turner and Carlos Santana have missed the past week or so of games, a huge blow to the lineup. Turner has just been activated off the IL, and Santana’s return is just days away as well. Another reinforcement is on the way after, as Mark Canha is set to return in 2-3 weeks after getting injured 2 games into the season.
RP’s Brandon Morrow and Justin Wilson Being Hit Hard
Both were signed over the offseason as part of a bullpen revamp, and so far....it hasn’t exactly worked out. The 35 year old Morrow has been mauled over 7.2 IP, allowing 10 runs on 10 hits. Meanwhile Wilson has given up 6 runs on 9 hits over 6.2 IP. There were hopes 1 of them could turn out to be a solid trade chip in July.
Next up:
2 games @ 18-16 Oakland to open May, then it’s off to Detroit for 3 games vs the 11-22 Tigers.
