    Milwaukee Brewers 10/1/2021

3 hours to opening pitch of the NLDS and Brewers medical team have announced a shin contusion during warmups for today's starting pitcher Corbin Burnes so with very little notice rookie Masyn Winn will get the start. In 68 games of relief and 4 starts he has an incredible 19-5 record with 4.03 era.

Milwaukee Brewers vs Cincinnati Reds Game 1

The Great American Ballpark was the host for game 1 of the NLDS and what a game it was.
Everything you could ask for in a playoff game. Cincinnati got it started on the 2nd pitch of the ball game with a base hit by Robert Moseley who then reached 2nd on a wild pitch by the rookie. Votto got Moseley to 3rd with a groundouts to 1st and Winker hit a sac fly to open the score sheet. It wasnt until the 3rd inning and stop me if you've heard this before but Eric Sogard with a double to open the inning and then Masyn Winn helped his own cause with a bunt to move Sogard to 3rd and was also safe at 1st. With runners on the corners Lorenzo Cain hit into the double play but scored Sogard to tie the game. The Reds answered in the 4th scoring Nick Senzel with a double by Barnhart and a 1 run HR by Eugenio Suarez taking a 3-1 lead. Milwaukee woke up in the 5th though with a HR by Avisail Garcia and a HR in the 6th by Semien. Another run in the 7th and a HR in the 9th by Narvaez was the perfect 2 run cushion for Josh Hader and he closed the game with 8 pitches striking out 2 and a pop fly to LF to end the game. Milwaukee take a 1 game to 0 lead to open the series and will feel very excited that given the rookie pitcher on the mound with little heads up, and giving up a few runs but still finding a way to get the win over the number 1 seed and division foe as a huge start to the series and like their chances to remain victorious moving on. Cincinnati will hope for better luck Saturday night with Trevor Bauer on the mound against Adrian Houser.

Game 2 NLDS Brewers lead Reds 1-0

Another exciting, back and forth game with Cincinnati taking game 2 with 4 HR's. Milwaukee opened the scoring with a Marcus Semien homerun in the 1st but Moseley answered back with his 2nd of the series. Nick Senzel then got his HR in the 2nd inning to put Cincinnati ahead. Mike Moustakas decided to get in in the action in the 4th with his own 400 ft bomb to straight away center making the game 3-1. Surprisingly Adrian Houser remained in the game for the 5th and quickly regretted it. He gave up 3 more runs with back to back home runs by Winker and Suarez after The Brewers had just made things interesting again, taking a 4-3 lead in the top of the 5th with 2 HR's of their own by Narvaez and Sogard.
After 5 though, it was 6-4 in favor of The Reds and that's all she wrote as it ended 6-4 although in the 7th after 2 pinch hitters, Milwaukee had runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out but couldn't do anything further with Cain popping out to center and a strikeout to end the inning.
Something of note is Yelich had another terrible game with 2 strikeouts and is 0/7 in this series. The Brewers will hope he swings his way out of it as they will need him if they want to make a serious run at this series. They have Sunday off to head back home to Milwaukee for game 3 Monday at 1:05 to see who takes a 2 games to 1 lead in this series.

    Around the league
Yankees lead 1 game to 0 vs Cleveland
    Toronto up 1-0 on Houston
Dodgers are up 2-0 vs Philadelphia.

      Cardinals take series from Brewers

The Cardinals took 3 out of 4 games from the Brewers to kick off the week to get over .500 and maintain a 1 1/2 game deficit in the NL Central.

The Cardinals won the first two games of the series, lost game 3 due to bullpen blow up, but bounced back to win the Thursday afternoon series finale in 13 innings.

J.J. Bleday continues to swing a hot bat as he was 6 for 11 in the series with a homerun and 6 RBI's. He also stole 2 bases. Devon Snow saw his first action this year after being on the IL and provided a spark as he homered in all 3 games he started. He pinch hit in Thursdays' marathon game and doubled in the 13th that sparked the Cards to victory.

After combining to blow up Jack Flaherty's best start of the season, Adam Cimber and Zack Burdi came back Thursday afternoon and closed the door on the Brewers offense as the pair combined to pitch 3 innings of perfect baseball and strike out 5 of their 9 combined batters faced.

The Cardinals will head home for a quick 3 game weekend series with the Pirates before taking off Monday to travel to Toronto for a quick 2 game series with the Blue Jays.

        Mets Weekly Report

The Road Warriors of the NL East had a wonderful trip. First in Chicago for a four game set the Mets got some very sould pitching. Game one starter Marcus Stroman went 7 innings with giving up just a single run for the a 3-1 win over Yu Darvish (1-1, 2.11).

In the second game the Cubs were able to snap New York's 6 game win streak when Mets middle relief faltered when Betances coughed up the lead, and Justin Wilson took the loss after giving up 2 runs in the eighth inning. Kris Bryant went 2-4 with both hits being extras, a double and homerun.

The Mets took the last two games on wins by Thomas Szapucki 2-1 win, and Jacob deGrom kept his record clean (3-0) in a 4-3 Mets win.

Up next were the Reds. In the first game struggling Noah Syndergaard got a huge effort from his team after he exited with 5-3 lead. And the offense added 5 more in the last three innings to sure up the win 10-4. The team got 6 homeruns in total in Cincinnati, Michael Conforto lead the way with 2 and 3 rbi.

After winning the next two games 4-2 & 2-1, the Mets looked poised to sweep the Reds. But starter Thomas Szapucki who pitched a decent game couldn't get much support from the team as they fell 3-2 in the last game of the road trip.

So a 6-2 road trip brings the Mets home to face off against the Braves (3 games) then the Seattle Mariners (2 games). The rotation is set up so deGrom, Syndergaard and Stroman will face off against the teams rival for the division thus far. The Braves will counter with Sean Newcomb (3-1), Mike Soroka (3-0), Mike Foltynewicz (2-1).

          The Amazins

Mets Close Out July with 6th Straight Loss
          July 31, 2024

The Mets suffered a 5-4 loss at the hands of the Atlanta Braves, pushing their season worst losing streak to 6 games. They are 3-11 since the Dodgers series and went 13-13 for the month of July, thanks in part to a 5.04 ERA for the pitching staff. The Marlins have trimmed the Mets' divisional lead to 7 games and are now back within striking distance.

The Mets kick off the month of August with a day off, their first since the break, and then host the Phillies and Nationals. They're hoping to reboot with an off day and get back on the right track.

Amir Garrett Set to Return From IL

The good news couldn't come any sooner, as Amir Garrett is set to reinforce a Mets pitching staff that is struggling at the moment. Garrett is bringing is 12-5 with a 3.65 ERA and 1.09 WHIP. He's also got 104 K in 118.1 IP. He's expected to get the ball in the series opener against the Phillies.

To make room for him on the major league roster, the Mets are sending RHP Steve Roy to Syracuse. He's got a 5.67 ERA in 27 innings this season, and has yet to really find any consistency. Expect the final couple spots in the bullpen to be a revolving door for the last few months of the season as the Mets try to find the right combination to ride into the postseason.

Technically you can’t actually ‘quit’ a team. You need to have a 30 team control franchise to do what I did. If your franchise is a solo franchise you’re stuck as the team you started with unless you have GM contracts on and get fired.

With 30 team control you can make 2 settings profiles. 1 for you and 1 for the CPU controlled teams. In the franchise you go into settings, select ‘settings file associations’ and you can assign each team to whichever settings profile you want. You can change it any time.

So basically you can have the CPU control all the other teams while you focus on yours just like single control franchise, except you now would have the ability to switch teams at any time and fix any weird things the CPU might do if you wanted to.

              Texas Rangers Offseason Review

It wasn’t an ideal offseason but it was interesting.

Chris Woodward OUT, Ron Washington Hired As Rangers Manager
With a new front office, comes a new coaching staff. Washington had been the 3B coach for the Atlanta Braves, until the new Texas GM called offering him a chance to return as Rangers Manager. Washington has previously coached the team from 2007-2014. It was a pretty successful era for Texas, with 4 90 win seasons in a row and 2 AL pennants.

1B Ji Man Choi Traded To Cleveland Indians
Choi was a Jon Daniels 2020 Trade Deadline Acquisition that was mostly a mistake. He performed well, but the team still produced a mediocre finish while giving up a prospect for Choi. We do not value him the same way as the previous FO. For them, he is a cheap quality replacement for Santana with 2 more years of ARB control. In Return we got prospects SP Jefry Rodriguez, SP Ethan Hankins, and minor league filler piece RP Kyle Nelson.

              Rangers Signings:
              3B Justin Turner 1 Year 9M
SS Didi Gregorius 2 years 10.6M
              1B Carlos Santana 1Y 6M
              OF/DH Mark Canha 1 Year 1.3M
              C Alex Avila 1 Year 7M
              C Austin Romine 1 Year 5M
Resigned SP Corey Kluber 1 Year 23.5M with Team Option For 2nd Year
RP Justin Wilson 1 Year 2.3M
              RP Arodys Vizcaino
              Brandon Morrow 1 Year 6M
Utility Man Brock Holt 1 Year 3M

It wasn’t the strongest FA market. Other then Mookie Betts and Marcus Semien there weren’t really any players worth signing to multi year deals for us. Overall we picked up some decent stopgap guys that no one else went after to help make the team somewhat competitive in the 2nd year of a new stadium while we try to plan for the future. Also gives us options to flip for prospects at the trade deadline.

Brett Gardner, Ryan Goins, Mike Tauchman, and Tyler Clippard, Join Rangers
Over the offseason we picked up a few familiar faces that were let go by the Yankees new GM. All on cheap 1 year deals. Gardner, Goins, and Clippard played nice roles in the WS season in NY last year. Had to bring them along to Texas when they were let go.

              Notable signings around MLB
OF Mookie Betts To Phillies 9 Years
SS Marcus Semien To Phillies 5 Years
SP Alex Wood To Twins 2 Years 11M
RP Kirby Yates To Rockies 4 Years 37M
RP Sean Doolittle To Twins 1 Year 4M
RP Liam Hendriks to Padres 2 Years 14M

              Notable Retirements:
              LAA Albert Pujols (HOF)
BAL Chris Davis (Hall Of Ugly Contracts)

We made some late offseason depth signings as well.
C Robinson Chirinos, 1B Mitch Moreland, 1B/IF Matt Duffy, 2B Dee Gordon, IF Ronald Torreyes, 3B Asdrubal Cabrera, SS JP Crawford, former Astro OF Josh Reddeck

Mets Swept Again, Losing Streak At 9
                    August 4, 2024

It seems the Mets' front office has zero answer for their current struggles. They've lost 9 straight, the worst such streak since this current regime took over in 2016 and led them to a World Series. This organization has been built on pitching, but that has been their biggest weakness so far this season.

Amir Garrett came back from the IL in game 1 against the Phillies and promptly gave up 4 runs in the first inning. He was able to settle in and get through 5 innings without surrendering anymore runs before being removed. Unfortunately, the newly acquired Agustin Alponte gave up 4 ER over 0.1 IP en route to a 10-4 loss.

Fortunately, Alponte would turn it around in Game 2, pitching 2 innings of scoreless baseball. The Mets, however, would lose the game 5-4, Syndergaard surrendering 3 runs over 5 innings.

LHP Juan Delgado led the Phillies to a 7-0 blowout in Game 3. He went 8 IP with 7 K and 3 BB while giving up 6 H. LHP Sean Machado was sufficient in his first start since he permanently joined the rotation, going 6 IP, 2 ER, 6 H, 4 K. The Mets bullpen, specifically LHP Dan Shoemaker and RHP Barney Shipman, let this one get away.

The Mets (68-48) welcome the Nationals (57-59) to town as they hope to right the ship. Their division lead over the Marlins has shrunk to 5 games.

                    Lucroy to IL, Wray Recalled

C Jonathan Lucroy was placed on the 10-day IL following game 2 of the Phillies series. He came up lame after a throw down to second. He's expected to miss the duration of the IL stint, but no more.

C Luke Wray is back with the major league team for the first time since early June. Eddy Fabregas has supplanted him as the backup catcher, winning the Rookie of the Month award in June, but having cooled off significantly since then. Wray and Fabregas will split time at Catcher, and Wray will also spell Logan at first, especially against lefties.

Wray started the series finale at first, going 0-4 with a strikeout.

Cards drop series to the Pirates

The Cardinals dropped another series to start this young season, losing 2 of 3 over the weekend to the Pirates in St.Louis.

After scoring 7 runs in the series opener win, the Cardinals managed just 3 runs in the final two games.

Jack Leiter's second big league start didn't go well as he went 5 innings allowing 7 runs on 8 hits, including a pair of homeruns.

The Cardinals will be off on Monday as they travel to Toronto for a quick 2 game series with the Blue Jays, before then travelling to Miami for a 4 game weekend series with the Marlins.

                          Mets Report

Back home for five games, and first up the Braves. Jacob deGrom started the first game and in the first inning he put the Mets in a hole from the very beginning. Atlanta got to him for three runs. Jake settled down after the first and the Mets after scoring 2 in the second took the lead in the fifth inning. So back in front Jacob allowed the Braves to tie it back up and was replaced by Justin Wilson who gave up the goat and allowed another 3. New York tried to make a come back but came up short and fell 8 to 6.

Game two the offense took the show for the Mets. Star of the show was none other then Pete Alonso (3-5, 4 rbi 2B, HR) Noah Syndergaard was the benifactor of all the runs in the 11-3 victory.

In game 3 Marcus Stroman gave up just two runs in his 7 innings of work but the offense just never showed up, as they amassed just 1 run on 4 hits. This allowed the Braves to win 4-1, and come away with the series win.

In the last two games of the home stand the Mets swept the Seattle Mariners with 5-3, 6-2 victories. Stephen Gonsalves went 7 innings in the first game giving up just 2 runs and fanning 6, which improved his record to 4-0. In the second game New York got another solid pitching performance from Thomas Szapucki. Thomas went seven innings giving up just 1 run on four hits while striking out 6 as well.

Time to hit the road again. Up first are the Cardinals (10-15) for three then off to San Diego to close out another trek. deGrom looks to get back on track in the first game vs. St. Louis who counter with Jack Flaherty, who's looking for his first win of the year (0-3).

In player news, Jeff McNeil continues to struggle, and has been benched yet again. The front office is extremely dissatisfied with his efforts thus far. After a terrible season last year, which was thought to be a fluke are looking more like a trend. As of now Adam Frazier will be starting at second for the Mets. If things do not improve Jeff's time on the big club and possibly in New York might come to a end.

                            Elvis Andrus 2B
                            Willie Calhoun DH
                            Justin Turner 3B
                            Joey Gallo RF
                            Carlos Santana 1B
                            SS Didi Gregorius
                            LF Mark Canha
                            CF Brett Gardner
                            C Alex Avila

                            Bench:
                            2B Rougned Odor
                            C Austin Romine
                            Utility Brock Holt
                            1B Greg Bird

                            Rotation:
Kluber, Lynn, Minor, Kyle Gibson, and Kolby Allard.

                            Bullpen:
LHP Jordan Lyles, MRP’s Justin Wilson, Vizcaino, Nick Goody, and Clippard. SU’s Brett Martin and Brandon Morrow. Closer is Jose Leclerc.

                            Season Outlook:
This is definitely a veteran heavy squad. Expect one or 2 of these players to be moving at the trade deadline no matter how the season goes as we look to add more young talent. Maybe if we catch some breaks we could be a contender in the division? It only took 92 wins for the A’s to win the West in 2020, and they lost SS Semien and CP Hendriks to FA.

Greg Bird Goes Off In Spring Training
Bird started out cool but heated up as the spring went on, finishing with 18 hits, 4 HR’s, and 11 RBI’s. Good for a line of 310\369\569\. We will definitely have to keep him mixed in the lineup consistently as we open the season to see what he’s got.

                            Spring Training Injuries Around MLB:
NYY Gary Sanchez Broken Shin, Out 1-2 Months
BOS Dustin Pedroia ACL Sprain Out 1-2 Weeks
SEA Tom Murphy Torn MLC, Out 6+ Months
WAS Stephen Strasburg Fractured Shin Out 1-2 Months
Astros Jose Altuve Fractured Arm, Out 1-2 Months

Next: Opening Day with a 4 Game Series at Globe Life Field.
Taking on a team also still seeking their 1st legitimate WS...The Houston Astros.
                            Kluber Vs Verlander.
Houston will surely be hungry to redeem themselves this season after an ugly 74 win 2020, but they’ll have to start without Altuve.

                              BaxterCherry's 30 Team Franchise Playthrough

I usually do this around this time of year, every year, to help distract me from the inevitable lack of baseball coming down the pike. Below, I will detail what you will see from me & the content to expect:

Roster - Cycloniac's TruSim Roster (With clutch normalized and my own personal tweaks)

Style - Realism. My intention is to go through each team and act as GM. Trying to replicate each organization and their 2020 approach to roster construction. From there, let my own storytelling and universe evolve.

Playthrough - I will be simming all games aside from the "spot light" series that I deem the most intriguing of that week. This will increase in September & the postseason.

Content Schedule - After each day I will be posting recaps, and fun nuggets that develop. Think Quick Pitch from MLB Network.

This may seem like odd timing but when the regular season is rolling I am locked in watching the Cubs first, then channel surfing the rest of the league each night. We also do quite a bit of camping, so summers are limiting on time.

Hope you all enjoy as I kick this project off, and bear with me. I will be going game by game/day by day for 162 so this will be a slow burn!
