Cardinals (19-19) dropped 2 out of 3 to the Rockies in Colorado to start the week and have fallen back to .500 on the season and are now 5 1/2 games behind the Reds in the Central division.
The Cardinals bullpen was to blame for the opening loss in the series as for the first time in 41 opportunities, Roberto Osuna blew the save, giving up 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th after inheriting a 5-3 lead, but then falling 6-5.
Tuesday night the Cardinals got revenge as they scored 4 runs in the 9th to comeback and beat the Rockies 8-5 with Jordan Hicks closing the game striking out all 3 batters on just 11 pitches. The Cardinals earned the lead when J.J. Bleday struck again with a 3 run double followed by Devon Snow driving him home on a double in the gap.
Wednesday afternoon, things reverted back to the bullpen blowing up as the Cardinals were up 2-0 in the 7th, but Richard Rodriguez would give up 3 runs after a 3 run homerun by Nolan Jones after walking the first two hitters. The Cardinals would give up another 4 runs by the bullpen to lose 7-3.
The Cardinals are off on Thursday as they head home for a 3 game weekend series with the Marlins.
