Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

I finally opted to just start a franchise on Friday and it hasn't disappointed so far. Getting right into it reminds me how much I love this game / sport.

Playing as the CWS and off to a nice 6-4 start so far. Good mix of games although I might have to turn up CPU hitting because they have scored under 2 runs most games.

Lineup Changes: Mitch Garver, who has been hitting in the 5 spot, is being brought down to the 8 spot. It’s essential a switch with Miguel Sanó, who has only been in the 5 spot against lefties. Garver, batting .220 with 1 HR, hasn’t been excelling at the plate this year; striking out 17 times in 59 PAs. Sanó has kept a disciplined bat, walking 6 times and has only been fanned 10 times; he is tied with Cruz for the team lead in RBIs at 9.

          Team: Minnesota Twins
Record to Date: 9-7, 3rd in ALC
          Series: @ White Sox

Oh boy, this series was rough. Asides from Game 1, pitching did not go well; giving up 35 hits in total, to go along with 16 runs. Game 1 started with an injury before the first pitch, as Rich Hill had shoulder soreness; that led to Randy Dobnak to get the start and he was immediately effective. He went 7 strong innings, allowing only 4 hits and 5 Ks. Cruz went 2/3 with a HR and a BB. Game 2 is when everything went off the rails. Homer Bailey was on notice after his last start, but he didn’t seem to care as this start was equally as horrendous. He gave up 5 runs and 2 HRs in the first 3 innings. He only lasted 4. Romero came in relief for 2 innings but didn’t help matters as he gave up 2 runs and 1 HR. Moncada went 4/4 with 3 runs to cruise Chicago to victory. Coming into Game 3 with our ace, I thought we could bounce back. Unfortunately I was wrong. Berrios was hit bad, going 4 innings and allowing 6 runs on 10 hits. He’s not the only one to blame though as our offense was staggered, managing 1 hit in the first 5 innings. We were able to load the bases a few times in the last few innings, getting a hit or two and walking 6 times. Only resulted in 3 runs in the 9th.

          Team Rankings:

          AVG: .276, 7th
          Hits: 155, T-7th
          HRs: 14, T-24th
          RBIs: 56, T-22nd
          ERA: 3.46, 8th
          Hits Allowed: 147, T-22nd
          Runs Allowed: 56, 6th
          HRs Allowed: 27, 28th
          Ks: 148, 6th

We continue the road trip against the Toronto Blue Jays.

What are ur guys thoughts on the DH?

You guys use universal or leave as is?

Also thinking if the MLB will go universal in a few years and you are unable to change it in future carryover saves does that come into play at all?

I play 1 game a series, and all playoff games, so I do play ALOT but also like getting seasons in. I have wrote a recap of how my 2020 regular season went with the Cubs. I will try to update in game monthly from now on so its not as long worded in the future!

After a great 7-2 start to begin the year, the Cubs faltered as the months went on. Hovering around .500 the first half of the year. The offense was among the best in the league. With Rizzo, Bryant, Baez, Contreras all having All-Star caliber seasons. 2B was an issue early in the year and it resulted in the mid-May call up of top prospect Nico Hoerner (2B) to man the bag. Also, the Cubs in desperation mode traded with the Blue Jays to fill the 5th spot in the struggling Cubs rotations.

Trades: Acquired MATT SHOEMAKER (SP) for Prospect SS Aramis Ademan

As the months went on, the Cubs bullpen and Rotation continued to be among the worst in the league, consistently serving up runs and blowing leads. All stars were chosen and the Cubs continued to limp in at .500 even with a Kris Bryant HR Derby crown and 4 AS selected.

All Stars: Wilson Contreas, Javy Baez, Kris Bryant, Kyle Hendricks

Come deadline time many teams were making moves to get better, and they reached out to the Dodgers who had a wealth of pitching. The Dodger's again dominating the NL had one weak spot, catcher. And in one of the biggest blockbusters of the weekend the Cubs traded All Star Wilson Contreras for young phenom Julio Urias (SP) who has been pitching to a solid 3.00era in LAD.

Acquired JULIO URIAS (SP) for C Wilson Contreras

Cubs fans were skeptical of moving one of the best offensive catchers in the league, but it was a move for now and later, as the Cubs got a young solid pitcher with years of control.

August was a big month for the Cubs following the deadline as they obtained an 18-10 record in the month. It all came down to September for the Cubs, where going in they were tied for the 2nd WC spot.

Cubs kept the 2nd half streak going in September by going 16-8 en route to a finishing record of 89-73, which WAS good enough to grab the top WC spot in the NL. The Cubs who hovered around .500 going into the AS break came out firing on all cylinders in the second half of the year. The Brewers cruised all year, and the Cubs were not good enough to even come close in the division race.
The Cubs will take on the Braves in the WC game, who lost the 163rd game vs the Nats for the division.

It will be Hendricks vs Soroka. Will the Cubs season continue or get suddenly stopped early again.
The Cubs got to Soroka early and were in a comfortable lead the whole game en route to a 7-3 win.

The Cubs went to LA to take on the Dodgers in the NLDS.
Game 1 was a close one, went to Extras and the Cubs ended up losing on a walkoff blast by Mookie Betts.
6-0 shutout by Kershaw in game 2, a 10-1 shelling in game 3 despite 15 hits for the Cubs. The Cubs season was over abruptly again.

A hard fought season was now over to the team that has dominated the NL lately in the Dodgers.
What will the offseason hold for the Cubs?

I have it on universal. I personally think pitchers hitting is dumb.

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread -HELP PLEASE!

I went out and bought a PS4 and The Show to fill the void that the postponed baseball season left behind. Really digging the game but I'm having trouble using custom rosters in franchise mode.
I've downloaded some custom rosters from the vault. When I try to start a new franchise, I opt for the use saved rosters options and select my downloaded rosters. I go on to make all the GM options manual (so that the CPU doesn't mess with my rosters). When I finally get to the franchise, my roster reverts back to the default rosters.
I know my downloaded rosters work because I've used them in Play Now mode with no problem. Is there a setting that is messing up my rosters in franchise mode? I'm desperate to start my franchise with the accurate downloaded rosters. I'd appreciate anyone's advice. Thanks!

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

Hey all, been playing Franchise for years but was not as active with the community the past few years as I finished college. Decided when I have the time for The Show I would build an Angels Franchise instead of just diamond dynasty which gets repetitive. LOVE the guys that put together the Ridin rosters for us this year and every year, loaded their roster then went in and fine tuned every team, it's looking great now, and will monitor so teams don't do "would never happen in real life" things.
I play all 9 innings of every game, starting with Opening Day. I'll post whenever something noteworthy happens with my Halos, or more often if you guys want, maybe brief series recaps? We'll see!

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

Hey sports fans, I am new here to operation sports but I am and have been an avid sports gamer my entire life. I have started a franchise in the show 20 with bacon's fictional roster. I have been blogging it on the dynasty tab on my page. I am playing every game and taking my franchise very seriously as I am excited to test my GM and playing skills. I haven't posted any stats and have just been blogging because I think people will get more entertainment on how I am going to rebuild and what I'm thinking instead of just stats. I could sure use any feedback from people who are as passionate about the show as I am on what you would like to hear about and if I should start posting stats or which things everybody would like to read about. Feel free to comment and discuss things on my blog and even question my philosophy or my moves and we can have a healthy debate about my franchise or sports in general. Thanks again Bacon for the rosters and I'm having a blast playing and writing about my experiences.

MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

Decided not to continue my carry over franchise and went for a restart in 2020. So here we go:

The Los Angeles Dodgers start the 2020 season with their eyes set on finally claiming that elusive World Series title. After failing to make the World Series in 2019 after back to back appearances and losses in 2017 and 2018, the Dodgers hope to make their 3rd trip in 4 years.

With plenty of talent on the roster there will be plenty of rotating players depending on opponents starting pitching.

                          Everyday Starters:
                          1B- Max Muncy
                          3B- Justin Turner
                          SS- Cory Seager
                          CF- Cody Bellinger
                          RF- Mookie Betts

                          Platoons:
                          2B-Gavin Lux/Kike Hernández
                          LF- Joc Pederson/A.J. Pollock
                          C- Austin Barnes/Will Smith

                          Bench:
                          1B- Matt Beaty
                          OF- Chris Taylor

The starting rotation is southpaw heavy, with Walker Buehler being the only right hand starter. The bullpen is the exact opposite with only a single left handed reliever, Scott Alexander.

                          Rotation:
                          Clayton Kershaw
                          Walker Buehler
                          Julio Urias
                          David Price
                          Alex Wood

                          Bullpen
                          LRP- Jimmy Nelson
                          MRP- Dylan Floro
                          MRP- Scott Alexander
                          MRP- Blake Treinen
                          MRP- Ross Stripling
                          SU- Pedro Baez
                          SU- Joe Kelly
                          CP- Kenley Jansen

Dodgers start the season with a 6 game home stand with 3 games against the Giants and 3 against the Rockies.

Thanks for catching that. Put the wrong name in. Urias is a lefty.

Whelp, my modern day Jays franchise lost our first game of the season to Chris Sale and the Red Sox. It was an emotional, gut-wrenching, edge of your seat affair. I was able to bring the winning run to the plate with the bases loaded, and it was my hottest player from spring training (Teoscar Hernandez) to boot, but Workman threw a perfect pitch on a 3-2 count, right on the low and inside corner, and Hernandez's bat just couldn't find it.

Seriously though, eff Chris Sale. 6.2, 1 R (earned), 111 pitches, and the only run I scored in the game was a one out sac fly. 3-1 final.

Things were really good on the pitching side, I just... Can't put the ball in a place where J.D. Martinez can't hit it.
