Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

The Yankees are off to a slow start this year dropping 2 out of 3 in Baltimore by scores of scores of 4-0, 6-8, and 2-4. Paxton was shelled in game 2 and the offense just couldn’t support Tanaka in the finale. The bright spot was opening day, Cole’s Yankee debut. Cole was just as filthy as he was in Houston last year, shutting the Orioles out through 6 and holding them to 2 hits before turning it over to the bullpen.

Now trailing the 1st place 3-0 Rays by 2 games, we head to the Trop for a 3 game set to open what should be a tight rivalry this year.

    MLB News:

Major Injuries Strike In Season’s First Days.
Rockies OF David Dahl is done for the year after dislocating his ankle, out 6+ months. The Phillies rotation has already been devastated losing Aaron Nola for the season to a torn labrum and Jake Arrieta for 1-2 months to a torn pectoral.

    Karma For Astros?
Just a day into the season, the Asterisks lost ‘co ace’ Zach Greinke for the year to a head fracture. With Cole leaving the Astros were relying heavily on the aging
1-2 punch of Verlander and Greinke. Verlander now sits alone atop the rotation with a very steep drop off behind him and suddenly the Astros are more vulnerable in the West. Might have to consider resigning the Trash can to overcome this.

2020 Chicago Cubs: A Windy City Story

The Cubs Finish Spring Training with a Record of 11-16

The Cubs will put spring training in the rear view mirror and head into the new season looking to start it of strong. They will head into the new season with 2 rookies in their starting rotation. 20 year old Brailyn Marquez and 24 year old Adbert Alzolay. The question is will they be able to replicate the amazing spring both had to stay in the rotation? Also will the bullpen be able to live up to the dominance that Owner/Gm Cody McBride thinks it will be. The bullpen will feature 21 year old rookie closer Ryan Jensen. The big question is will he be able to handle the pressure of closing big league games? All of these questions will be answered and more as we start the new season.

With spring training over here is the Cubs 26 man opening day roster break down:

        Starting Pitchers

Some of the notables that were optioned to the minors are David Bote, Daniel Descalso, Albert Almora, Rowan Wick, Brad Wieck, and Tyler Chatwood. All will be used for depth in case of any injuries or if we have any one struggle during the regular season. McBride had this to say "having this kind of depth is a good thing to have, there is never a such thing as to much depth and we will also explore our options throughout the year based on how we contend. We will also listen to offer from other teams that may come our way."

This looks to be an amazing season with alot of great young talent. i am very excited to see what the season holds for me. I will be playing every pitch of every game, so i will be updating after each series with a break down of each game and will be giving any kind of breaking new. Breaking news will range from player, pitcher, rookie of the month, anyone having a break out month in the minors, and any blockbuster trades that happen around the league. Thanks to anyone in advance that follows me through this franchise.

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

Can someone help me figure something out in franchise mode? Which is a better indicator for determining whether a prospect is ready for a call up--overall rating or minor league performance?

For instance, I'm using the Royals, and due to injury and underperformance on the big league roster, I'm in a position to promote someone. I have a good OF prospect in AAA, rated 72 overall, but he's playing like garbage. If I call him up while he's underwhelming in AAA, will that have any affect on how he does in MLB, or is that more largely dictated by his overall rating?

          Thanks for any/all feedback.

Sliders Note: I increased the power slider again by 1 and the game after did result in 6 HRs for me, but I was also shut out in the next game. I did decrease the contact slider by 1 for me as well as I’m getting 10+ hits in almost every game. I’ll ride this out for the rest of the April games for better or worse. On another note, I’m gonna switch up the format of writing my updates here. I like the way I’ve been switching the stat updates so you’re not seeing the same type of info every post, but I want to do a bit more. I hope you guys enjoy.

            Detroit Tigers @ Minnesota Twins
            Series Result: MN win 2-1

Weekend baseball started off well for our Twins, with a 9-1 victory on Friday and an 11-5 win on Saturday. Homer Bailey gave his best outing of the season, notching 6 Ks in 8 innings of work. Michael Fulmer only lasted 1.2 innings, allowing 8 runs. Leading the charge was Polanco and Cruz, each with 3 hits. Bailey wasn’t the only one who got their first W though, as Berrios had a lot of run support in his 7 innings of work. 5 Twins hit long balls in the game, with Rosario hitting 2. Unfortunately Game 3 did not go as planned as we were shut out 4-0. Odorizzi recorded his first loss in his 6 innings of work. Jonathan Schoop hit a 2 run shot in the 6th to give unnecessary insurance. He leads the Tigers with 4 HRs and 18 RBIs. Matthew Boyd was pretty much dialed in for the whole game. He went 7 innings, allowing 2 walks and 8 Ks on 107 pitches. He leads the team in Ws.

            Who’s Hot:

6 players are on the Hot Streak today, some are quite surprising. We have our team leader in most categories, Nelson Cruz, off to a great start. He currently leads the team in 9 statistics, and is placed 3rd for Silver Slugger (DH). Byron Buxton and Max Kepler are also on hot streaks, as Buck is on a 10 game hit streak, and Kepler leads the AL in doubles with 10. Our Hot Streak pitchers are lead with Odorizzi and Maeda, both are 3-1 and in the top 10 for Ks. But also Berrios is on a surprise hot streak! Hopefully he can build off his latest outing; he currently has the most hits allowed on the team with 41.

            Who’s Not:

Only 1 lone player and it shouldn’t come as a surprise on who it could be. Homer Bailey, despite getting a W, has the highest ERA for our SPs and has allowed 7 HRs in 22 innings. Devin Smeltzer or Randy Dobnak are eager to replace him if his slump continues.

            Current Standings:

            CLE 15-8 (-)
            MN 14-8 (.5)
            KC 13-8 (1)
            CWS 12-10 (2.5)
            DET 4-17 (10)

The home stretch continues with the Seattle Mariners (5-18) for a 4 game series.
            MSE - DENVER BRONCOS, 47-22 (3-2, playoffs)
            WWML - CAROLINA PANTHERS, 20-7 (0-2, playoffs)
            NSML - DENVER BRONCOS, 27-5 (4-0, playoffs)
            XML - DENVER BRONCOS, 51-17 (6-3, playoffs)

Record: 145-51 (13-7, playoff record, 2-time SB Champ)

Is anyone not seeing much player progression?
I’m 17 games in and no player has had any attribute increase? I.e contact, speed.. Some have decreased but not a increase?

              Maybe just too early yet?

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

Rays have started season 8-2. Began with a big 6-0 opening day win over the Pirates. Brandon Lowe hit 2HRs and Yoshi Tsutsugo has a nice debut with a double and single. Rays completed an opening series sweep of the Pirates.

Carrying that momentum forward we swept the Yankees. Dropped 2 of 3 to Texas and took the opener against Boston.

I’m going with a unique approach to my franchise this year. The AI gets roster control and I get the lineup and rotation. I play with the hand I’m dealt by my AI GM. Sounds crazy, but I think it’ll add a bit of chaos factor for me this year.

I ran some test sims before starting and it was pretty balanced between “Oh I got screwed there” and “Hate to see him go, but that’s a nice return.”

MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

The first road trip of the year starts off as a rocky one, with the Dodgers (6-3) dropping 2 out of 3 to the struggling Giants (2-7) by scores of 5-7, 5-1 and 1-6.

Game one saw Walker Buehler (0-1, 5.73) only make it through 5 innings after giving up 5 runs in the third. A Brandon Belt grand slam gave the Giants an early lead which they were able to hold onto even with a late Dodgers rally.

Julio Urias (1-0, 1.54) pitched the Dodgers to the lone win in game 2, lasting 6 innings while only giving up a single run in the the 2nd. A 3 run home run by Cody Bellinger (4) in the first inning was enough to put the the Dodgers ahead and stay there for the duration of the game.

In game 3 David Price (0-2, 6.00) once again only made it 5 innings in his start due to a high pitch count, but only allowed 2 runs in the outing. Unfortunately the Dodgers could only score one in the 4th before relief pitcher Dylan Floro (1-0, 5.79) allowed 3 in 7th killing any chance of a comeback.

The story so far early this season is the struggling Dodgers bullpen and the inability of the rotation to make quality starts. A slumping Max Muncy, batting a measly .185, really needs to start producing out of the 5 spot to help turn things around.

LF Joc Pederson, who is in last year of his contract, has been placed on the trade block. The front office is hoping to move his contract while possibly obtaining some bullpen help.

Next up for the Dodgers is 4 games in St. Louis (7-2) to close out the road trip. Projected starters:
                  Alex Wood (1-0, 1.29) v Adam Wainwright (1-0, 4.50)
                  Clayton Kershaw (2-0, 2.08) v Jack Flaherty (1-1, 4.22)
                  Buehler v Miles Mikolas (1-0, 1.93)
Urias v Daniel Ponce de Leon (0-0, 6.75)

The Dodgers (9-4) rebound after a horrible performance in San Francisco by taking 3 out of 4 in St. Louis (8-5) by scores of 3-0, 5-6, 3-2 and 4-1.

Alex Wood (2-0,) earned the win in game 1 with a 6 inning, 3 hit and 8 strikeout performance. Kenley Jansen (4) notched the save.

After 2 run bomb by Cory Seager (2) in the top of the 9th sent the game into extra innings, a walk-off home run by Tyler O’Neil in the 12th gave the Cardinals a 6-5 win in game 2.

Walker Buehler (1-1, 4.24) earned the win in game 3. Kenley Jansen (1.80) notched the save (5) allowing a single run in the 9th.

2 Cody Bellinger home runs led the way for the Dodgers to finish their road trip. Julio Urias (2-0, 1.62) took the win while Jansen earned save number 6 on the season.

After 7 games on the road the Dodgers return home for, 9 starting off hosting the reigning World Series Champions Washington Nationals (6-6) for 3 games. Projected pitching matchups:
                    David Price (0-2, 6.00) v Patrick Corbin (1-0, 3.86)
                    Wood (2-0, 0.69) v Anibal Sanchez (0-2, 4.91)
                    Clayton Kershaw (2-0, 2.37) v Joe Ross (1-0, 1.50)

                    Roster Moves:
LF Carlos Rincon was called up to AA Tulsa Drillers

Why is it so hard for The Show to have realistic trades? In my franchise the Reds just traded Raisel Iglesias to the White Sox straight up for Steve Cishek. Never in the million years would that happen in real life as a straight up 1-for-1 deal and to make it even worse is that it's only April 4th.

Not sure if you use any sliders but I use mike lowes and turning the trade slider down during certain months have really given it a more realistic feel to it.

                            Chacin makes first Twins appearance

                            February 25, 2020
SPRING TRAINING--- Jholys Chacin made his first start of the spring, working three innings and Jake Cave delivered a sacrifice fly, scoring Byron Buxton in the bottom of the ninth as the Twins knocked off the Phillies 4-3 Wednesday afternoon.

Buxton led off the ninth with a solid single up the middle, then moved to third on a Nick Gordon bloop single. Cave then drove a 1-0 fastball to right field, scoring Buxton without a throw.

Chacin allowed 3 hits and one run, but he threw strikes with all of his pitches and worked both sides of the plate well. Devin Smeltzer made his second appearance of the spring, allowing one run in his two innings of work. Taylor Rogers, Trevor May, Cody Stashek and Cory Gearrin (1-0) all worked one inning in relief.

Nelson Cruz continued his hot start, going 2 for 2 with an RBI. Willians Astudillo also delivered two hits in the win.

The Twins will return to the road tomorrow afternoon as they will take on the Toronto Blue Jays for the second time this spring. Jake Odorizzi is scheduled to make his first appearance of the spring. First pitch is set for 1:07 PM.

sitting at 36-17 with the Padres and in first place. Starting to get a little distance from the second place Dodgers who are 30-21 and 5 games back.

I'm in the middle of an insane stretch of 21 straight days without a day off! Have to manage this stamina very well.

Still have Wil Myers and Joey Lucchesi on the 60 day IL. MacKenzie Gore has filled Joey's spot tremendously as he's 5-0 with a 1.69 ERA. Chris Paddack is 7-0 with a 2.53 ERA.

Fernando Tatis JR is still the AVG leader at .394, the first time he's been under .400 this season as he's in the middle of a 1-12 slump. Christian Walker is behind him at .376.

                              Tatis: .394, 15 HR and 38 RBI
                              Pham: .323, 8 HR, 22 RBI
                              Machado: .324, 10 HR, 36 RBI
                              Mejia: .310, 12 HR, 38 RBI

The top half of my lineup is killing it as you can see.

Profar is up to .308 with 5 HR and 19 RBI
Grisham is on a tear right now and hitting .301 (up from .238).

I'm playing on Hall of Fame hitting and All-Star pitching.

Now in April at the 6th, the Yankees have rebounded after surprisingly dropping 2 out of 3 in their season opening series in Baltimore. We took a much needed 2 out of 3 series victory on the road in Tampa before sweeping the Blue Jays in 3 in our first home series of 2020. Morton locked us down in game 3 @ Tampa holding us to 2 runs through 7 innings. Our record is now 6-3.

Leading the offense early on is DJ LeMahieu, Gleyber Torres, and Gary Sanchez.
                                Torres: 394 AVG, 459 OBP, 939 SLG, 5 HR’s, 11 RBI’s.
                                Sanchez: 296 AVG, 375 OBP, 778 SLG, 4 HR’s, 10 RBI’s.
                                LeMahieu: 462 AVG, 488 OBP, 795 SLG.

LeMahieu has been a machine at the plate this season, 18 hits, 11 RBI’s, 8 doubles, and even a triple.

Next, the Orioles come to the Bronx for a 4 game series, and this Yankee team will surely be looking for revenge after being embarrassed in Baltimore to start the season. In game 2 Gerrit Cole will make his Yankee Stadium debut looking to repeat his opening day dominance Vs these same Orioles.

                                Notes:
                                Red Sox Hot Early
No Betts, no Price, no Sale, and these Red Sox are rolling anyway early off to an 8-3 start, currently leading the AL East by 1 game over the Yankees.
