Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

Note: I’m still not getting any power behind my swings. It’s kinda ridiculous at this point considering the tremendous power that my lineup represents. I just can’t seem to get “Good” contact much, if at all. Especially when other people are saying they hit a plethora of HRs in this game, it makes me feel like I’m doing something wrong. All I want is to average 1.45 a game, which should matchup with the lineup I have.

    Team: Minnesota Twins
Record to Date: 12-7, 3rd in ALC
    Series: @ Blue Jays

After the last series, it looked like we were heading for a downward slope. But we had excellent outings from Odorizzi, Maeda, and Hill, each being backed up by some great run support. Odorizzi and Maeda each had 10 Ks and 2 runs allowed. Donaldson fared well against his former team, getting at least 1 hit in each game and did have 1 HR. Midway point in April and we are going strong with a 10-3 record in the month. Which looks to get better over the next week of games as we face Detroit (3-15) and Seattle (5-15).

    MN All-Star Voting:

SP Kenya Maeda, leads SP votes with 134k
    3-1 W-L, 30 IP, 33 Ks, 1.80 ERA, .53 WHIP

RP Trevor May, placing 3rd in votes with 52k
    0-0 W-L, 8 IP, 17 Ks, 0.00 ERA, .75 WHIP

RF (DH) Nelson Cruz, 2nd in votes with 133k
    74 ABs, 4 HRs, 12 RBIs, .351 AVG

RF Max Kepler, 3rd in votes with 123k
    67 ABs, 3 HRs, 6 RBIs, .299 AVG

Detroit comes to town to start our 10 game home stretch. We are currently 5-1 at home, and Detroit is 3-12 against division opponents.
    MSE - DENVER BRONCOS, 47-22 (3-2, playoffs)
    WWML - CAROLINA PANTHERS, 20-7 (0-2, playoffs)
    NSML - DENVER BRONCOS, 27-5 (4-0, playoffs)
    XML - DENVER BRONCOS, 51-17 (6-3, playoffs)

Record: 145-51 (13-7, playoff record, 2-time SB Champ)

[QUOTE=Fede86;2050058650]Understood, but if you do that what's the point of doing 30 Team Control? Just setting up 40-man, lineups and rotations before the season starts?

Yeah that's what most people do it for and also if they feel like cpu made a "dumb" trade. But I just let it play out, I feel like with the rosters at 26 the cpu does roster balancing better than it did last year

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

        Hi there,

In light of this COVID downtime, I have decided that it is time to finally try and document a Franchise in the SHOW. As I'm based in the UK, I have at least three weeks of pure quarantine and am self-employed. So now is the time.

I NEED YOUR HELP in choosing. I have played the Show since 09 and have spent more time on the Roster menu than I have played the game. I believe documenting it will create a new level of immersion that hopefully, you guys will enjoy as much as me.

I have narrowed it down to the following teams with the reasons why.

For me, the criteria are the following.

        Good Uniforms
A skilled defensive SS - defense and speed are important to me.
        Good Defensive Outfield.
An "ace" or "reliable producer" at the top of the rotation.
And for some reason, some interesting utility/backup options.

So this leads to the shortlist being the following 5 teams.

        Yankees
        Rays
        White sox
        Angels
        Reds

        Here is the Poll: https://linkto****n/p/552VVW04

I will leave it completely up to you. So please vote and ill get started on it tomorrow!

Thank you so much for taking this decision out of my hands.

I really appreciate it. I hope to provide some good content while you stay safe inside.

Yes. There is a case to be made.

Unfortunately, its who I used last year so I am hesitant to use them again. I do agree with you though.

Also, apologies for posting the wrong link. Doesn't seem to work anyway.

              Start of Season - 2020

Coming off back to back 100 loss seasons the team heads into 2020 with some hope for the future. But will the future be close enough to avoid 100 losses for the 3rd straight time?

Heading into spring training we knew who most of the team would be barring any surprises. There was 1 spot open in the rotation eventually going to Jesse Hahn. Going in Mike Montgomery was going to be the 4th started but Hahn actually took that spot from him. Putting up a 3.32 ERA in 19 IP. Forcing Montgomery to the pen to start the season till we need a 5th starter.

For the bullpen, Tim Hill and Ian Kennedy were the only guys we knew for sure would be there. But Greg Holland and Trevor Rosenthal were about as close as you could be. All 4 start the season in the pen joined by Josh Staumont, Scott Barlow and Richard Lovelady. Holland had the best spring by far giving up no runs in 10 IP while Staumont had an ERA under 3. Unfortunately, that's where the good ended. If the MLB let me id have recruited someone from the preschool down the road. Instead, Barlow and Lovelady get a spot.

The offensive side of the ball was much the same with pretty much all the starter spots set. Bubba Starling beat out Brett Phillips and Nick Heath for the backup Outfield spot. He was the best of the 3 though still not great as he hit .261/.306/.435. He got some help when both Phillips and Heath missed a week or so with an injury.

The last 2 spots on the team went to Humberto Arteaga and Jesion Guzman. They hit .261/.300/.370 and .255/.333/.277 in about 45 AB. Neither great but we needed some backup infielders. So with that here is how the team and the rest of the organization will start the season.

Double-A is loaded with 11 of our top 15 prospects. Though I expect about 5 of them to be up in AAA relatively soon and 2 or 3 have a shot to be up in the Majors before the season is over. Bobby Witt may spend the whole season down in Single-A to let him adjust to the professional level. Absolutely do not want to rush him. Brady Singer could and most likely should be up in KC before June rolls around. Khalil Lee might spend 4-6 weeks down in AA before heading to AAA. Then up to KC around the All-Star break or as a September call up depending on how things go.

We start the season off with 3 games in Chicago against the White Sox before heading to Detroit for a quick 2 game series. Then we have our home opener against the Twins on April 2nd.

I went with the Rays. Setting it up like an old school Franchise story. So feel free to give it a follow. I know the Stadium can be tough, but gives me a reason to be grateful for the away games.

Cardinals finish Spring at 13-17. Look forward to regular season

The Cardinals have finished Spring Training with a record of 13-17, losing their last 3 games. The Cardinals waited until the very last day to decide some position battles, most notably deciding to option Andrew Knizner to Memphis and keep Devon Snow and Carson Kelly as their catchers.

They also decided to option Samuel Franco to Memphis to work on hitting and kept Chris Taylor at the big league level. The two most surprising may have been sending Connor Capel down to Memphis despite Capel having a solid spring and Steven Matz to Memphis as well, though he struggled this spring.

The Cardinals decided to roll with 13 pitchers and 13 position players for their first 26 man roster.

Cardinals lose Dakota Hudson to shoulder tear

On the final day of Spring Training the Cardinals gave the ball Dakota Hudson to make a start and possibly earn the 5th starter spot from Matz and Junior Fernandez. Unfortunately, Hudson's start would come to an abrupt halt in the 2nd inning as he left with shoulder discomfort, later diagnosed as a shoulder tear. He will be on the shelf for 2-3 months.

Hudson pitched well this spring appearing in 7 games and recording a 1-1 record with a 3.97 ERA and 11 strikeouts versus just 3 walks.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

2020 Chicago Cubs: A Windy City Story

Half way through Spring Training the big talk has been the stand outs of rookie starter Brailyn Marquez and rookie closer Ryan Jensen. Marquez has been looking solid throwing 15 innings and striking out 19 with a 3.00ERA. Jensen has been very sharp in the closer role with a 1.93 ERA and 3 saves so far this spring.

The first wave of cuts are coming after 14 games in. Duane Underwood, Oscar De La Cruz, Tyler Olson, and Miguel Amaya will all be optioned back to Triple A as the spring training battles continue to get tighter.

There will be another cut coming in another 8 games so stay tune as we see who will come down to the final 4 games of spring battling for a spot.

                              Breaking News!!!!
The Cubs have completed what most would say an out of nowhere trade. The Cubs are sending Jose Quintana to the Mariners for speedy leadoff hitter Mallex Smith. This fills needs on both sides, it gives the Mariners a reliable starting pitcher and the Cubs a speedy leadoff hitter. The Cubs have been in search of this since after the 2016 season when they lost Dexter Fowler.

It has also been said that the Cubs are in search for another reliever before spring training is over, new owner/GM has stated that they are willing to go big in a trade if the return would net them a young reliable reliever.

                                Breaking News!!!
The Cubs have come to terms with the Phillies that will send Craig Kimbrel to the Phillies in exchange for young relief pitcher Seranthony Dominguez. With this move it has now been determined that the Cubs will name rookie Ryan Jensen as there opening day closer. One would have to think that with this move that if Jensen starts to struggle that they will turn to the experience that Dominguez has closing out games.

Also it has been announced that Brailyn Marquez and Adbert Alzolay with be named the 4th and 5th Starters come opening day. The other positional battles are heating up and very tight with only 4 more spring training games to go.

New Owner/GM Cody McBride had this to say when asked about the recent trades and projections on the upcoming season. "We made trades that we felt was right for right now as well as the future of this great organization, we also feel like we have a great group of younger player that will bring us multiple championships moving forward." McBride was also asked about the state of having 3 center fielders on the opening day roster. He replied with this "We will not necessarily carry 3 center fielders and will be looking to see what a return one of them may get on the trade market, one thing in the game is you can't think you have all the answers, because when you do someone will change the questions."

Stay tune and follow this great season to see how it unfolds. Next up will be opening day roster as well as final roster cuts.
