Gray, Zych combine for one hitter as Charlotte falls 3-0
Last night was a game to forget for Charlotte, as their bats ran dry against Rockies stud Joe Gray. Key bats Michael Conforto, Gregorious, and Beaty were all held hitless across 9 at bats for the group, and as a staff, Tyler Wade was the only player to record a hit. Only Michael Conforto and Brent Rooker drew walks for the Miners.
On the pitching side of things, Gray went 8 innings without giving up an earned run, striking out 12 and only walking 2, while Tony Zych closed out the game giving Juan Nicasio a break for the night. During the media availability after the game, Gray said "I found the zone well tonight, made good use of the velo on the fastball and the changeup, and whenever I was getting shaky Wolts got me back in line." Anthony Desclafani started the game for the Miners, but had to hand the mound over to Brett Kennedy who went 3 innings giving up 3 earned runs. Araujo, Garcia, and Fletcher then shut out the final 4 innings to keep the game at a 3-0 score.
Desclafani told reporters that he doesn't suspect that he has an injury, just developed strong tightness in his pitching arm. He's being sent back to Charlotte to be re-evaluated and per manager Wathan is expected to make his next start. The Miners are currently 7-15 on the season, placing them dead last in the NL Central yet again.

Beaty plays hero again as Miners take 9th inning lead to take victory against Betts and the Cubs in the 9th
It was a hitfest this evening for the Miners and Cubs as the teams combined for 19 hits and 13 runs in total as the Miners won a nailbiter against the Cubs, 7 to 6.
Matt Beaty played hero for the 2nd time in as many months as a 1-out home run in the 9th scored both he and and Wade to shoot ahead by a run in the top of the 9th, and Colome closed the game out from there. Beaty, along with Wade, had strong games offensively combining for 5 of the 7 Miner's RBIs, with Wade also recording a double. Didi Gregorious and Michael Conforto also hit solo bombs ion the 6th to temporarily take the lead over the Cubs 5-4, but that would last less than an inning as Miners pitcher Matt Shoemaker would get pulled in the 6th due to fatigue for Rule-5 draft pick Durbin Feltman who would get Baez to ground out to Wade, then give up a double to Betts and inevitably a 2-bomber to pinch hitter Anthony Rizzo, resulting in Feltman being pulled. The rest of the bullpen however, was stellar, being capped off by an excellent closing effort from Colome.
When asked about the game, Rodriguez said "Coming into the game in the 8th you immediately got the feeling that the ball itself was alive. Every batter for both sides felt in tune with the game and I was blessed to be able to go out there and have a 1-2-3 inning." Rodriguez has been a major bright spot for the Miners bullpen this season, recording a sub-1 ERA through 56 games this season.
Despite this, the Miners still sit dead last in the MLB. It's reported that despite this having the intention of being a formative year for the fledgling Miners club, that GM McKinney may still sell off some of the signed talent at the deadline, citing the consistent need of acquiring talent in the minors.

Draft Briefing
The Miners are currently sitting with the 2nd overall pick, behind the Kansas City Royals. All of the top prizes in this draft are positional players, which gives a nice parallel to last year. Among these include New-Yorkian SS Dale Tumolo. Tumolo, 18, is speculated to be one of the best high-school talents since Mike Trout. Showing a ++ bat, a big-league frame, and develop-able defensive talent coupled with big-league speed, it's no wonder that he led his high school league in what can best be defined as any stat underneath the sun. However, he's very specific on where he wants to play, and has come on record to state that he only wants to play in the north-eastern coast or the north-western coast, as one of his biggest hobbies is fishing.
Next up is Bryan Mesa, a 22 year old catcher for Florida State. With a profile that is almost identical to Buster Posey at the same age, Mesa actually gets the edge on Posey as he can play most infield positions coupled with catcher. Showcasing elite-grade arm strength makes him a force defensively behind the plate and a nightmare for speedsters, he combines this with good pitch framing to be a pitchers best friend. Finally, he's demonstrated an innate ability to hit the high fastball throughout college which will come in handy as the pitch becomes more and more popular in the MLB. Oh yeah, and as an added bonus, did we mention he's from North Carolina?

With the Royals not wanting to risk Tumolo being serious about his desire to remain coastal, and Mesa not making much sense for them as they're stocked behind the plate, it's speculated that they're targeting SP Pablo Bautista, a Pedro Martinez-style pitcher who may take a bit extra to hit the league, but showcases ++ stuff in highschool with lethal pitch selection who they could get for below slot.
