Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread
The 2021 Cubs again got off to a blistering start in the first 10 games going 8-2, but things fell apart shortly after when the Cubs were suddenly 9-11. Losing 9 out of 10 in a horrible stretch. The Cubs managed to finish March/April with a 17-14 record. They were 2GB back of the division.
In May the Cubs finally pushed forward and showed the true potential of the talented team. The month of May saw the Cubs have a 14 game winning streak, and 18 of 19 in that stretch as well. The Cubs pitching staff has excelled thus far in the season being in the top 5 in almost all pitching categories. Justin Turner has been an amazing signing hitting .343 through the end of May. Rookie Gary Scruggs (Age 21) who the Cubs picked up from DET in the Almora trade has been a huge surprise, hitting .321 with 6HR and 17 RBI through May, in which he is not starting every day. The top 3 in the rotation (Urias, Hendricks, Darvis) all have Sub 3.50ERA’s and the 4 & 5 of Quintana and Tehrean have been serviceable and eating quality innings. The Bullpen has been dominant as well with Kimbrel, Morrow, A.Miller, and Nate Jones all pitching to sub 2.50ERA’s. Overall, the Cubs went 21-8 in may and are 38-22 at the conclusion of the month. Tied with the Cards atop the NL Central.
Draft:
Bernard Nowak SP (21YR/64OVR/B)
Anthony Williams LF (20YR/67OVR/C)
Samuel Cuevas CP (21YR/70OVR/B)
Oswaldo Saldana RF (21YR/67OVR/C)

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread
June was a cool down month for the Cubs as they finished 13-14 during the month, and lost the NL central division lead in a late month series vs STL where they were swept. Cubs lost 8/9 in a stretch in mid-late June. The Cubs record stands at 51-36 after June which Is still one of the best records in the league, but the team find themselves 5GB of the NL Central lead. The Amateur draft was held In June and this is the Cubs results. July is a big month with the ASG and Trade Deadline looming.
Draft:
Bernard Nowak SP (21YR/64OVR/B)
Anthony Williams LF (20YR/67OVR/C)
Samuel Cuevas CP (21YR/70OVR/B)
Oswaldo Saldana RF (21YR/67OVR/C)
Tommie Kendrick CP (20YR/64OVR/B)
Lee Lim CF (18YR/58OVR/B)
July was a great month for the Cubs, it started with the Cubs starting the month 5-4 before heading into the AS break.
All Stars: Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo
In the HR derby Kris Bryant defended his crown and was able to become a back to back champion.
The Cubs then won the next 3 games out of the break, sweeping the division leading Cardinals to pull into a tie in the NL Central. They then lost grips of the division with a 4 game skid against the Nationals in which they also lost Quintana to a torn hamstring, and he was placed on the 60 day DL.
The Cubs then pulled it together winning 6 in a row, and 7 of 8 to close out the month with an overall record of 14-8 and overall sitting at 65-45, still tied with the Cardinals. It sounds like it will be a hard fight for the Cubs the rest of the season. The Cubs knew they had to make a final push for the division and were looking to bolster the team at the deadline.
Cubs pitching has been great this season, but with Quintana going down, and Teheran hovering around a 4ERA the Cubs decided to make a push for a Lamet or Lucchesi on the Padres. The Padres by far have the best farm system in baseball, and have tons of pitching coming up the pipeline, so both were expendable, and the Padres were looking for a middle of the order bat.
The emergence of Cubs Rookie 1B/OF Gary Scruggs (.295AVG, 13HR, 33 RBI) allowed the Cubs to trade CF/2B Ian Happ to SD for Lamet.
Happ and Lamet both have similar salries and the same amount of team control left, and just made sense for both teams now, and moving forward.
The Cubs did not have any other ready to play OF’ers in the minors and signed free agent Kevin Pillar (OF) for the remainder of the season.
Lamet will start the August 1st game vs NYY. 52 games left, division tied. Should be a photo finish!
Other big moves,
LF Pham (SD) to LAA, 1B Encarnacion (DET) to HOU
CLE Acquires Seth Lugo RP and Dellin Betances RP from NYM
Red Sox Acquire RF Michael Conforto from NYM
MIL Acquires SP Lance Lynn from TEX
Tigers Acquire Phillies SS Scott Kingery for SP Michael FulmerLast edited by eric7064; 04-02-2020, 01:26 AM.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread
The Dodgers (24-6) wrap up the month of April winning both games against the visiting Twins (16-15) 5-3 and 11-7.
28 April 20- A pinch hit, walk off, 3 run home run by Joc Pederson overcame base running blunders by the home team. Max Muncy was caught in a run down and Mookie Betts was thrown out trying to stretch a double into a triple, ending innings early instead of placing runners in scoring position.
AA Tulsa Drillers (7-11) CF Terrance Gore will miss 1 week after straining his calf in a 1-2 loss against the Springfield Cardinals (7-11).
29 April 20- An exciting night when the teams combine for 18 runs, 31 hits and 7 home runs, a Max Muncy Grand Slam would normally be the play of the game. Not tonight. Cody Bellinger sped his way to an in the park home run after right fielder Nelson Cruz jumped and misplayed a fly ball off the wall. (My first ever in the park HR) The Dodgers bullpen allowed 5 of the 7 Twins runs in the 7th and 8th innings after started Alex Wood (5-0, .94) was pulled following the 6th.
April ends with the Dodgers posting a 20-5 record for the month and sitting sitting atop the NL West by 8.5 games over the Colorado Rockies (15-14).

May doesn’t appear to bring many challenges to the Dodgers as they are only scheduled to play 3 games against a team that currently holds a winning record, the 17-16 Cleveland Indians. The May schedule for the Dodgers:

Twins Bats Erupt in Home-Opening Win
Donaldson puts on show for home crowd
April 2, 2020
St. Paul--- This off-season the Twins made Josh Donaldson the highest paid free-agent acquisition in franchise history, signing him to a mega four-year deal worth $100M. If Thursday night is any indication of what the next four years hold, then the Twins will be very happy. Donaldson blasted two homeruns and drove in five as the Twins defeated the Oakland Athletics 17-5.
Donaldson also added another hit and ended the night three-for-four with five RBI to pace the slugging offense. Jorge Polance, Eddie Rosario, Mitch Garver and Marwin Gonzalez all contributed multi-hit games during the 15-hit attack. Nelson Cruz drove in three runs.
Jake Odorizzi (1-1), who received zero run support in his first start, was the beneficiary of the hot bats tonight. He worked six innings, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks, while striking out eight. Devin Smeltzer, Tyler Duffey, Cory Gearrin and Taylor Rogers all put in some work out of the bullpen in this one.
Minnesota will look to continue the hot bats Saturday afternoon, after a rare Friday off-day, as these same two teams will meet for game two of the series. The Twins will send Homer Bailey (1-0) to the bump. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 PM.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread
I am now 71 games in to my 2026 Cubs season. This franchise is a continuation that started on MLB 14 on the PS3. Kris Bryant was a created prospect on my initial roster. He hit his 500th career HR in April 2026 for me. My cubs are an enduring dynasty that’s now taking their place amongst the finest in Baseball history. Here’s my yearly records as it’s been a while since I posted on here.
2014 72-90
2015 93-69 (division title)
2016 101-61 (division title World champ)
2017 104-58 (division title World champ)
2018 99-63 (division title)
2019 94-68 (division title)
2020 102-60 (division title World champ)
2021 103-59 (division title World champ)
2022 110-52 (division title World champ)
2023 97-65 (division title)
2024 92-70 (division title)
2025 98-64 (division title)
2026 46-26
So I have 11 straight division crowns and 5 World Series. I’ve played every single game and it’s been the most enjoyable sports gaming experience that spanned 7 games now. My 2026 team feels really strong. I’m wanting to match he 90s-00s Braves run of division title and of course win as many WS titles as possible. My Kris Bryant is having a legendary career .292 career ave 514 career Hrs over 2000 hits and over 1400 RBIs. Can’t wait to see where he stacks up.Comment

MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread
Detroit Tigers, playing every pitch of every game, All-Star, mostly default (pitch speeds at 7, fielder run speed at 4, tiny tweaks like that.)
Probably the worst team in baseball. As the new GM I made a couple splashy moves just to put my stamp on things, and to perhaps inject a small amount of sexy, signing controversial outfielder Odubel Herrera off waivers and trading for SS Didi Gregorius and C Manny Pina.
* * *
Opened the year with a sweep of the Indians in Cleveland, then won the home opener on a walkoff over KC in the 10th. Sunshine and rainbows everywhere.
Made it to 7-2, which became 8-5. First place af. Still feeling good, but it’s in the back of my mind, “Bro, you’re the worst team in the league. Odubel and Didi aren’t changing that.”
Well sure enough fast-forward to present day and we sit 15-19. The issue? Starting pitching:
Boyd: 1-4, 7.83 ERA, 1.56 WHIP
Norris: 2-2, 5.23 ERA, 1.38 WHIP
Zimmermann: 0-1, 7.29 ERA, 1.62 WHIP *IL*
Nova: 0-2, 7.36 ERA, 1.36 WHIP
Fulmer: 2-3, 6.34 ERA, 1.51 WHIP
Turnbull: 0-5, 6.99 ERA, 1.59 WHIP
Bad scene man. Bullpen hasn’t been much better but it’s better than that. Even if they pitch well at times, which they all have, all it takes is a little 3- or 4-run blowup in the 5th and that’s that.
I want to believe this can be a decent season. I want to believe that with *average* pitching, which those guys ARE capable of, and *decent* offensive production, which my lineup IS capable of, we can win 78 or 82 games, and make it a fun competitive year. But those numbers. My god.
And so, storyline-wise ... I’ve got these kids.
Casey Mize: fireball, A potential, 1.12 WHIP at AA.
Tarik Skubal: fireball, A potential, 1.07 WHIP at AA.
Just staring me in the face, baiting me.
..... Not yet.
But that’s my sitch and predicament.
* * *
Everyday lineup:
1. Odubel Herrera (.274, .832 OPS, 5 HR, 18 RBI)
2. Didi Gregorius (.285, .888 OPS, 6 HR, 20 RBI)
3. Miguel Cabrera (.302, .747 OPS, 0 HR, 10 RBI)
4. CJ Cron (.263, .863 OPS, 10 HR, 27 RBI)
5. Christin Stewart (.255, .868 OPS, 6 HR, 15 RBI)
6. Travis Demeritte (.280, .805 OPS, 2 HR, 15 RBI)
7. J. Candelario (.202, .740 OPS, 5 HR, 13 RBI)
8. Manny Pina (.254, .670 OPS, 1 HR, 7 RBI)
9. Josh Harrison (.183, .569 OPS, 2 HR, 13 RBI)

So it’s fun having a balance of not only fictional guys but also being able to place up and comers in my league.Comment

CHARLOTTE
MINERS
FRANCHISE
Postseason review
GM McKinney and manager Dusty Wathan approached the media today before the postseason starts for the rest of the league, to discuss plans for the offseason, expiring players, and the struggles the team faced last season. Overall, 4 core things were discussed.
-Hitting obviously needs to be better. Prize free agent signing Michael Conforto struggled in his first full season in Charlotte, posting a .232/.321/.395 slash line through 161 games for the Miners, recording 203 strikeouts. His struggles with lefties was accentuated in games with the Miners this season, as a lack of bench bats made it so Conforto could not be swapped out of the lineup in key situations for better hitters. In fact, a lot of players saw similar struggles to Conforto- a large rise in strikeouts and a dip in batting average, for a minor rise in power stats. In fact, the Miner with the highest batting average, Kean Wong, put a .265 on the board. GM McKinney stated that getting some extra bats to allow for better matchups throughout the lineup would be a big focus for the Miners, along with helping players like Conforto, Cave, Rooker, and Wade recapture their previous years success. He also congratulated 3B Brad Miller on an impressive season which saw him pot 16 home runs, an .816 OPS, and a whopping 4.7 WAR, being one of the lone bright spots on a Miners lineup that saw massive struggles.
-McKinney, and more specifically Wathan, addressed the pitching staff as well. They both praised Daniel Norris and Anthony DeSclafani, and essentially confirmed their spots in the rotation next season, while insinuating that another camp competition would befall Kennedy, Senzatela, Fagalde, Stephens, and Lawrence alongside other free agent signings for the last 3 starting spots. They also confirmed the plan was to try surprise-star reliever Paco Rodriguez as a closer next season, which some say means Colome might not be back. They also announced that reliever Durbin Feltman would indeed be back in some capacity. Rumor has it that the Miners plan on making a big splash in free agency, especially around pitching, if it makes sense with their timetable.
-McKinney also gave some light on the plan for prospects such as Jordan, McKinnon, Giorgio, Jones, and Ball. Jordan, McKinney said, may break into triple-A and the team sooner rather than later, especially if he performs as well next year as he did this year. McKinnon will likely get looks in September, as they're in no rush to bring their 2021 1st round pick to the majors. Kris Giorgio will bounce around high-A and double A ball to start the season, but McKinney didn't rule out a potential jump to triple-A dependent on performance. Finally, he stated that the 2 August/September call ups, Bryce Ball and Greg Jones, would be given every opportunity to break camp with the Miners this spring training.
-For some closing notes, The Athletic is reporting that the Miners are approaching new contracts for Alex Colome and Brad Miller. Contract details are suspected to be somewhere around the same values for their contract last year. They are also reporting that SP Matt Shoemaker will not be back next season.Last edited by MountUrCastle; 04-02-2020, 02:08 PM.Comment

******* I should really move miggy shouldn’t I. First time looking at it all lined up like that. But see that’s what so great about this mode: that’s a real decision with real consequences, both statistical and psychological. You’re gonna drop Miggy to 7th in the lineup? Is that where we’re at? I’ve always had this and never understand why...
My signed draft picks that I end up seeing in Free Agency. It can’t be because of a full roster. I always (and I assume everyone does) end the season with a full roster and still end up with most of my draft picks on my roster. Is this normal?Comment

CHARLOTTE
MINERS
FRANCHISE
The Charlotte Miners twitter announced today that the Miners have signed MLB free agent pitcher Shun Yamaguchi to a one year deal worth 590k. Yamaguchi, a 35 year old pitcher hailing from Nakatsu, Japan, is a 35 year old righty who has still maintained his velocity with age. Appearing in 54 games for the Toronto Blue Jays before taking a year to rehab an arm injury, he combined for an ERA of 4.10 and 302 strikeouts, being worth 3.9 WAR in his time with the Blue Jays. Yamaguchi's team says he's excited to restart his MLB career in the Tar Heel state, as he comes into a battle with a bundle of other pitchers for the last 3 spots in the Miners rotation. Boasting a lethal combo of a 4-seamer and cutter, Yamaguchi could turn heads this year for the Miners.Last edited by MountUrCastle; 04-03-2020, 10:40 AM.Comment

The Miners twitter, after previously announcing the signing of SP Shun Yamaguchi to a 1 year deal, recently announced the signing of another starting pitcher- this time, they're signing SP Chris Bassitt from the Cincinatti Reds. Bassitt, who has spent the past 3 years with the Athletics, Brewers, and Reds, respectively, has pitched in 400 innings the past 2 seasons. Averaging a high-3's ERA and a WHIP into the 1.30's, Bassitt has made a name for himself off his 5-pitch selection. Boasting a speedy sinker, 4 seamer, and cutter, he matches that up with a 83-mile per hour change-up and a 70 Mph curveball, having a devastating switch-up for batters. The 34 year old from Ohio is projected to make 2.7 million this year.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread
I completed my 3 game series vs. the Phillies. Just one more 3 game series before I hit the AS break. I swept the Phillies. It wasn't easy. I had to come from behind in game 2 & 3.
Game 1: Teheran was dominate hurling 7.1IP,3H,7K,OER,0BB all on 94 pitches. 2B Albies broke out of his slump going 2 for 4. 1B Freeman was the run producer going 2 for 4 2B,2RBI. We won 3-0.
Game 2: SS/UI Camargo came into the game in the Btm of the 7th. PH for LRP Santiago. Camargo hit a 2B to start our comeback. Down 4-1, we scored 3 times tying the game 4-4. Turned to my CL Kimbrel to preserved the tie and he did. Striking out 2 out of 3 batters he faced. Btm of the 9th, Phillies brings in RP Arano. Camargo hit a walk-off, 412ft blast towards the "Chophouse" in right field! We won 5-4!
Game 3: It was a pitcher's duel between Phillies SP Velasquez & SP Folty. Velasquez was only good for 5 IP, but he struck out 8 of my batter's. On the other hand, Folty was on it! 7IP,6H,6K,1ER. Freeman had the go ahead sac fly RBI in the Btm of the 5th. We won 3-1!
Bad news came in the form of losing the team lead-off catalyst CF Inciarte (49R,121H,19SB,192B,63B,.353/.380/.446=an OPS of .826) to a broken ankle. He's out until late Sept. To fill the void, I brought up veteran OF Shane Robinson. He has
77 SPD. RF Heyward should be back in 1-2 weeks. I'll play either him or Acuna in CF. Also I will move Acuna to the lead-off spot.
Bottom line I accomplished what I set out to do, which was to sweep the Phillies. I am 52-37,1st place in the east. Up 2.0 gms over the Nats. Mets have fallen to 2.5GB.
Next up series with the Marlins.
Game 1. Siroka (3.70 ERA) vs. Chen (4.59 ERA)
Game 2. Fried 13-2(2.26 ERA) vs. Alcantra(5.29 ERA)
Game 3. Teheran 11-3(3.20 ERA) vs. Pa. Lopez(5.66 ERA) *Teheran is a potential AS snub. He's 10th in fan voting. Maybe the virtual manager will pick him.Last edited by decga; 04-03-2020, 12:07 AM. Reason: Added Inciarte stats to show his importance to my squad...Comment
