Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread
Entering game 3 of a 7 game home stand, their final home stand of April, the Nationals are finally gaining some momentum and have won 3 in row and are now only 1 game under .500 and .5 game out of first place in the division. Their starting pitching has been excellent but their bullpen has struggled mightily accounting for the majority of the team's losses. So, with that in mind the Nationals went out and made a trade just weeks into the 2020 season that many thought they would make back at the 2019 Trade Deadline. With the Blue Jays struggling and already sitting 6 games under .500 and 8.0 games back in the division, good for last place and shockingly tied with the Rays, the Nationals and Blue Jays came together for a blockbuster trade. The Nationals trade Daniel Hudson, Joe, and Jackson Rutledge to the Blue Jays for Ken Giles. And in other news the Nationals announce that Will Crowe will replace Joe Ross's starting rotation and will make his major league debut against the Chicago Cubs and Kyle Hendricks.MLB Teams:Phillies and Yankees

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread
World Series 2021
Joe Maddon has fingerprints all over this series. Many of the Cubs who won the World Series in 2016 in Joe Maddon’s 2nd season with the Cubs are still there, while the Angels in only his 2nd season he has taken this team to the world series, Mike Trout’s first. You have the likely AL MVP and NL MVP in the same series. The Angels also came in as the WC team, went the full 5 in the ALDS, and the full 7 in the ALCS, so they have fought hard to get here. It will be a great one.
Cubs Vs Angels
Game 1: Julio Urias (14-11, 3.40ERA) Vs Andrew Heaney (6-10, 4.37ERA)
Cubs Win 6-1: This one was cruise control for the Cubs. The Cubs went down early in the 2nd on a double from Trout and an RBI single from Jose Abreu, but the Cubs roared back in the 3rd inning tying up the game on an RBI single from Justin Turner. They also scored 3 more in the 4th with the meat of the order Scruggs, Bryant, and Baez punishing Heaney.
Urias went 6IP strong giving up the lone run, and the bullpen as they have done with the rest of the postseason closed down the final 3 innings in a 6-1 victory, and a 1-0 series lead.
Game 2: Kyle Hendricks (15-11, 3.45ERA) Vs Shohei Ohtani (10-12, 4.50
ERA)
Cubs Lose 8-5:
At this point the Cubs have won 8 straight playoff games after losing game 1 of the NLDS, but the luck could not hold out forever. The game was scoreless through 3 innings until the Angels brought in the first run of the game on a solo blast from David Fletcher.
Hendricks imploded in the 6th inning in a 1-0 game and gave up 5 runs before being pulled. Ohtani on the other hand cruised through 5 2/3 innings giving up only 1 run. The bullpen almost blew it for the Angels as the Cubs scored a run in the 7th and 3 in the 8th to make it a 2 run game, but the Angels tacked on insurance in the 9th and ultimately won the game 8-5. This tied up the series at 1-1, and let the Cubs know that the Angels were not going down easily.
Game 3: Dinelson Limet (8-11, 3.09ERA) Vs Jaime Barria (4-3, 2.21 ERA)
Cubs lose 6-4:
Cubs struck first in the 2nd inning on a solo HR from Anthony Rizzo, the Halo’s responded with a HR of their own from Trout in the 2nd inning. Schwarber wanted in on the action and hit a solo shot in the 3rd, but the Angels got 2 more runs in the bottom of the 3rd with a 2 run double from Jose Abreu.
Fletcher tacked on another run with a double in the 4th, and Adam Eaton powered a 2 run HR in the 5th to end Lamet’s day and give the Angels a firm 6-2 lead. Cubs tried getting back into it with a 2 run HR of their own making the score 6-4, but the Angels bullpen held the score at that for the rest of the game. Cubs lose a 2nd straight game, and now the Angels lead the series 2-1.
Game 4 : Yu Darvish (18-8, 3.12ERA) Vs Gio Gonzalez (12-7, 3.90 ERA)
Cubs win 9-8:
This was a classic great world series game. The Cubs struck fast in the 1st inning when Baez hit a 2R HR in the first inning. They added to the lead in the 3rd with an RBI double from Kris Bryant. Darvish looked good through 3 innings, but it fell apart shortly after. Darvish gave up 2 in the 4th, and 2 in the 5th which was it for him.
The Cubs did score 2 of their own in the 4th with Scruggs and Rizzo providing RBI singles. The usual sturdy Cubs bullpen came into the game with a 5-4 lead and immediately gave it away when Nate Jones gave up 2 runs. The Cubs scored 3 run’s in return in the 7th inning giving the Cubs an 8-6 lead. Good enough you would think for the rest of the bullpen, but Dan Winkler also gave up 2 more runs thanks to a 2R HR by Mike Trout. It was tied 8-8 heading into the 9th when Bryant pulled through with an RBI single for the Cubs and gave them the 9-8 lead. Kimbrel who has been perfect in the postseason remained perfect and secured the crazy win for the Cubs.
Javy Baez was an absolute monster this game as he went 5-5 with 3 runs, and 2RBI.
Series tied 2-2
Game 5: Julio Teheran (13-7, 3.69) Vs Andrew Heaney (6-10, 4.37)
Cubs lose 4-2:
Julio Teheran has been a savior for the Cubs in the postseason. Despite him having a great regular season, he was the odd man out in the playoff rotation but was able to produce 8 innings and 0 runs so far in the postseason and the Cubs were going to rely on him to start game 5.
Teheran did give up a run in the first on a Trout RBI single, but he calmed down after that. The game was tied 1-1 heading into the 6th, and both Heaney and Teheran were in a duel, but the Angels put up a crooked number in the 6th pouncing on Teheran for 3 runs, with 2 of them coming off the bat of Abreu.
The Cubs managed to push in a run in the 9th, but it was not enough as the Halo’s pitched great and won the game 4-2 largely thanks to Heaney’s gem.
Angels Lead 3-2
Game 6: Kyle Hendricks (15-11, 3.45ERA) Vs Shohei Ohtani (10-12, 4.50 ERA)
Cubs Win 8-4:
Rematch on the bump from game 2 in which Hendricks got shelled and Ohtani pitched very solid. The Cubs managed to score 1 run in each of the first 2 innings on Ohtani thanks to RBI doubles from Rizzo and Schwarber.
The Angels got a run off Hendricks in the 3rd on a HR from Tommy Pham. Score was 2-1in favor of the Cubbies and it got even larger in the 6th inning when the Cubs put up a 4 spot and finally got to Ohtani. The Angels managed to put up a fight and scored 2 in the 8th, but it was not enough as the Cubs shut them down in the 9th and forced a game 7 thanks in large part to Jason Heyward’s 4-4 game. Hendricks yet again delivered a huge postseason start for the Cubs.
Series tied 3-3
Just like in 2016 the Cubs came from behind in the series and forced a legendary game 7 that history will never forget. Is this game 7 primed to be another fall classic masterpiece? Who will hoist the trophy, the Angels or Cubs?
Game 7 of the 2021 World Series got off with a jolting start as the Halos put up a 3 spot in the 1st inning, 2 of the runs coming off the bat of a Mike Trout Triple. The Angels extended the lead to 4-0 with an RBI single from Kevin Plawecki. This pushed Urias out of the game early as the Cubs could not afford to give up more runs. The Cubs did score 2 of their own in the 2nd on a 2R HR from Kyle Schwarber.
Bottom of the 4th the Cubs showed more fight as Justin Turner had a 2-run single and Kris Bryant got a Sac Fly to give the Cubs a 5-4 lead after 4. Dinelson Lamet came into the game for the Cubs after Urias was pulled in the 2nd and was huge for the Cubs going 2.2IP with 5SO.
The 5th inning the Cubs offense continued to pound Angels pitching. As Bote got an RBI single, and Justin Turner had a 2 run double giving him 4RBI for the game. Cubs lead 8-4.
The Cubs added 2 more runs in the 6th on a Bryant solo HR and run scoring groundout by Baez. Cubs lead 10-4.
Dan Winkler entered in the 7th and allowed the Angels back in it, as Fletcher got an RBI single, Rendon got an RBI single and Brandon Morrow had to come in to limit the damage to 2 runs on the inning. Cubs lead 10-6 after 7. The Angels were down to the last 3 outs. Morrow was in the game for the Cubs and gave up 3 straight hit to start the inning. In comes Craig Kimbrel for the save, who has yet to give up a run in 11IP in the postseason. A sac fly and a single brought the score closer at 10-8, with a runner on 1st Mike Trout stepped in, 2 outs. The Cubs decided to walk him and bring the go ahead run to the plate in Jose Abreu. Abreu struck out swinging and 41,000 fans in the stadium roared in victory as the Cubs claimed the 2021 World series despite getting into a deep 3-0 deficit in the 1st inning.
GO CUBS GO, rang through the crowd and millions around the country. The Cubs were on top yet again. Many offseason questions loom, Kris Bryant (2021MVP) and Javier Baez both are set to be free agents along with the majority of the Cubs bullpen and Julio Teheran. This offseason one should be an interesting one.

MLB 20 Yankees Franchise
On to the back half of spring training now. Starting pitchers are going 5 innings / 90 pitches and starting position players are getting 3-4 at bats per game with the occasional day off to work in some bench guys.
Gerrit Cole is looking good in his 3rd start of the spring, fanning 11 Blue Jays while allowing just 2 hits and a walk in his 5 innings. In that same game the lineup hung a 6 spot on Jays international signing Shun Yamaguchi.
I finally got a scoreless inning out of Zack Britton the next day against the Marlins in Jupiter. Kahnle and Chapman followed with shutdown innings of their own so the bullpen is starting to look a little better as the season draws closer.
Miguel Andujar is still struggling to find his timing at the plate. He’s batting .222/.286/.333 in 36 at-bats. I had him penciled in as the opening day DH, but with Clint Frazier and Mike Ford both hitting over .300 and slugging over .500, that’s no longer a guarantee. Andujar is a sub-par defender and though he’s looked smooth in the field this spring, his value is questionable as a utility/bench player. He missed nearly all of 2019 with a shoulder injury, so unless he turns it around its not out of the question that he goes down to Scranton to get some more regular at bats.Comment

Cardinals win both games against Brewers
The Cardinals (35-26) won both games of the quick two game series with the Brewers in St.Louis. The mini sweep puts the Cardinals just a half game behind the Brewers in the National League Central and extends their winning streak to 7 games.
The Cardinals won the first game 3-2, thanks to 3 solo homeruns. Brendan McKay hit a homerun in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 1, Juan Fabregas hit a solo shot in the 6th to tie the game at 2, and then Brendan McKay hit his 2nd solo shot of the game in the 7th to go ahead 3-2, which would be the final score. Junior Fernandez pitched well going 6 innings, giving up 2 runs on 7 hits and striking out 5. The bullpen would do their job only allowing 2 hits over the 3 innings pitched. Greg Holland would earn his 13th save of the season.
The Cardinals won the quick series finale 5-3, in pretty much the same manner they did the previous game. Although they didn't score every run off of homeruns, they did use 2 solo shots in the 7th to go ahead 5-3, which would be the final score. Eddie Ortiz picked a fine time to hit his first homerun of his big league career with a pinch hit solo shot in the bottom of the 7th that put the Cardinals up 4-3. 3 batters later, Brendan McKay would launch his 3rd homerun of the series, to give the Cardinals a 5-3 lead.
With Holland and Osuna tired, the Cardinals turned to Corey Littrell who pitched a perfect 8th and then Zack Burdi got the save by striking out the side in the 9th. Kyle Funkhouser went 6 innings in a no decision to keep his record at 8-1 this year.
The Cardinals will remain home as they welcome the Cubs to Busch stadium for a 4 game weekend series.
Cardinals activate Harrison Bader from 10 Day IL
The Cardinals have activated OF Harrison Bader off the 10 day IL. Bader was placed on IL due to a lat muscle strain. Bader will be back in the lineup for Thursday's series opener with the Cubs.
Jose Adolis Garcia was optioned down to Memphis, which is a bit of a surprise he was moved instead of Eddie Ortiz. But Garcia is only hitting .222 on the year with a high strikeout percentage, so they are hopeful that a quick tune up in Memphis will get the 30 year old back on track. Plus, Ortiz is currently hitting .479, which is difficult to overlook when making this decision.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread
One of the most enjoyable parts of running a franchise for me is prospect development. Here is the Yankees top 10 Prospect list heading into 2020 (based on who I actually have in the game of course). I long for the day our rosters go deeper than 90 players.
1. OF Jasson Dominguez - Just 17 years old, Dominguez was the top rated international prospect in the 2019 class. Nicknamed “the Martian” for his freakish athleticism, he has been compared to Yoan Moncada for his physical build and Mike Trout for his toolset. He’s yet to play a professional game and is still several years away from the bigs.
2. RHP Clarke Schmidt - The 16th overall pick in 2017 out of South Carolina had TJ surgery right after signing. He rebounded in 2019 ascending to AA Trenton. He projects as a mid-rotation starter and could crack the majors as early as late 2020.
3. RHP Deivi Garcia - Garcia has big stuff on a small 5’9” frame, which has drawn him comparisons to Octavio Dotel and Francisco Rodriguez. The jury is out on whether he is a starter or reliever long-term. He’s in big league camp but likely starts the season in AAA.
4. OF Estevan Florial - The lefty-swinging center fielder has big tools (speed and power) but has lost the better part of 2 seasons to wrist injuries. He’ll open the year in AA Trenton and if healthy, is the Yankees closest replacement to Brett Gardner when he ultimately hangs up the cleats.
5. SS Anthony Volpe - A local product, Volpe was the 30th overall pick in 2019 out of Delbarton HS in New Jersey. No big tools but a solid all-around infielder. After struggling in his first pro action, Volpe heads back to Rookie ball to open the year.
6. RHP Albert Abreu - Acquired from Houston in the Brian McCann trade in 2016, Abreu has been on the Yankees radar for a while. He was added to the 40man roster prior to the 2018 season for Rule 5 protection, so with just one option year left he may end up on an accelerated path to the majors in a relief role.
7. OF Everson Pereira - A 2017 international signing, Pereira adds to a deep list of centerfield prospects in the organization. Just 18 years old, he should start the season at low-A Staten Island.
8. RHP Miguel Yajure - Yajure impressed as a starter at A+ Tampa in 2019 and made it to Trenton by year’s end. He was added to the 40 after the season and converted to the bullpen full time, where his mid-90’s fastball should play up in a middle relief role.
9. C Anthony Siegler - 23rd overall pick out of a Georgia high school in 2018, Siegler is a “make up” guy with steady tools across the board. Siegler is still in A-ball but is the top catching prospect in the organization.
10. RHP Nick Nelson - Nelson was a two-way player at Gulf Coast Community College until he was popped in the 4th round in 2016. The 24-year old will open the season in the AAA Railriders rotation and is a sleeper to make the team in 2020.Comment

Note: I tried streaming this series since it was just two games and for some reason I couldn’t stream too long. I had it up for about 30 minutes (which caught 2 innings of the first game) and it cut off saying something about the servers. I’ll try to stream again on a different series, but we will see.
Minnesota Twins @ Los Angeles Dodgers
Series Result: Twins sweep 2-0
Very short and sweet series that was lead with two great outings from pitchers Homer Bailey and Jose Berrios. The 21 win Dodgers were held to 2 runs, both of them HRs against Berrios. Justin Turner was a force, going 4/8 with a HR. On our side, it was Donaldson’s day in Game 1; smacking a 2 run homer in the 1st. He also went 2/4 in Game 2 to extend his hitting streak to 14 games. Garver took the lead in the 6th with a 2 run homer, ending his day going 3/4. Taylor Rogers has bounced back, getting a save in both games, though his ERA is still high (5.58).

Nationals Fail to Sweep Cubs, Pull off another shocking trade
The Nationals failed to sweep the Cubs despite Scherzer giving up only 3 runs on 3 hits, all solo home runs, and striking out 9 through a strong 8 innings. Down by 2 heading into the bottom of the 9th the Nationals managed to score 1 but ultimately couldn't tie up the game losing by a score of 2-3. Then on the off day following that game the Nationals pulled off another shocking trade this time with the White Sox. The Nationals sent Spencer and Carter Kieboom to the White Sox for Jace Fry and Zack Collins. With this trade the Nationals add another lefty, young lefty, reliever to the bullpen and might have found their next longterm catcher in Zack Collins.MLB Teams:Phillies and Yankees

Cardinals sweep Cubs. Win streak at 11 games
The Cardinals (39-26) again swept their division rival Cubs, this time in a 4 game series at Busch that extends their winning streak to 11 games.
The offense wasn't as potent in this series as the previous one, as the Cardinals scored 26 runs over the 4 games, but still, the offense was good and the pitching was solid.
The Cardinals now lead the National League Central Division by 2 1/2 games over the Brewers.
The Cardinals are off on Monday, but will travel to Arizona for a 3 game series against the Diamondbacks and then a 3 game weekend series in LA against the Dodgers.
Cardinals are playing solid baseball right now. How long can they keep the streak going? Let's sit back and find out.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
